ZUNE and your X360 - ZUNE HD Now in 64GB - Latest Update Now Supports AVI/XviD

Does anyone know what the 30GB colors ring up for now at Target? All my local STL ones are out, but the less traffic Target in Marion, IL near my parents home still has brown, black, red, and white 30GB units. I'm seriously considering changing from IPod (had the first PC one in Feb. 03 then upgraded to a 30GB video in Dec. 05) to Zune because of all the Apple DRM crap.
also keep an eye out on CES, the Zune department is going to be making a couple of announcements...Not expecting much.
I'm hoping for Divx support. They've got it for 360, so it would only seem right to add it to the Zune as well.

Can anyone help? The 30GB Zune's are not on the Target.com website.

I feel like I saw Brown ones for either 179 or 199. But the Target I went to didn't have them in stock I don't think, just the tags.

Oh for the love of jeebuz when are Asian fonts going to work with the Zune...! I put off uploading most of my japanese rock collection cause it'll take forever re-tagging (for the umpteenth time it seems). I'm almost losing my desire to finally replace this thing (after only a few months), but little things like that have made me use it less than my old mp3 players (iriver H320 R.I.P.).

I will say though, it is cool when it synchs with my 360.

Right. I thought the 30GB had gone on clearance and those tags were wrong, but I guess not.

There is a hack you can download that unlocks all the language and character sets...But it was on Zuneboards.com and either the site has been shut down or its just not loading for me right now. It was a known site for Zune and DRM hacks so i wouldnt be surprised. check it out to see if you can find it.

Just search Zune language pack, I think its only for Chinese and Korean or more.

OK one thing is really annoying me... the "premium" earphones suffer from a stethoscope-like effect. I'm switching to my other headphones because everytime I move my head I can hear the low pitch stethoscope sounds. It's especially bad when walking.

On a more positive note, my 640x360, 2 mbps H.264 DVD rips look awesome on my HDTV with my Zune connected to the 360.

The firmware can be upgraded on the Halo 3 30GB zune just like the other 30Gb, right? Saw a new Halo 3 one on EBay and I'm bidding on it and then going to sell my 30GB IPod video.

its probably been posted, but what software is best to rip a dvd, then transfer, do i need to convert it additionally to a format or will it to that automatically

Question on this and 1 more thing:

From reading the Zune FAQ on zune.net, if I just use MS points to buy individual songs, they are MP3's and have no DRM, but if I subscribe to a Zune tag and download the songs of others, they are subject to DRM and have the burning, etc. rights listed on the site. Do I have it correct?

The songs can be MP3 or WMV. The MP3 songs/albums cost more (79v99, etc). It will say MP3 next to the song.

My Zune crashes like all of the time , and my podcasts have blank areas in them . WTF ?

OK there are podcasts that I've downloaded through ITunes (so they would stay even though I have new ones erase them) that show up on ITunes and play on my IPod, but do not show up in the Zune software. So far I've noticed 2 of Major Nelson's interviews for the 5 year birthday of Live and 1 episode of the HDTV podcast are not showing up. Any ideas?

Edit: Video podcast are not playing on my Zune software either even though it plays in ITunes. I get error code C00D11D1 but Zune.net can't find that error message.

Signed up for the Zune Pass last night. Legally downloading several GB's of music at high quality with complete tags and album art is so satisfying! I just hope the songs will work for custom soundtracks on the 360.

Has anyone found a way to edit the track numbers for songs inside the Zune software? I was messing around with it tonight and couldn't make the changes I wanted.
What is everyone using for a background? I'm having trouble finding stuff I like that doesn't make the menus disappear.
I played around with a ton of different backgrounds but ultimately went back to the default Zune-grid design. It seems to detract the least from the menus.

You can't subscribe to the same podcasts on both platforms . [You can but you should not] .
I had a bunch of repeat shows in mine too , I'm just going to let iTunes run the subscriptions and have the Zune watch .

I just use the default black one. It's functional and minimalistic.

You don't understand. I don't have repeats, I have MISSING podcasts. Ones I've downloaded are now showing in Zune but they are in ITunes.

Anybody having problems with their Zune software 'unsubscribing' them from a bunch of podcasts? Seems like every week I notice that about half my podcasts are unsubscribed.

I've noticed that periodically, as well.

I've searched the Zune blogs and forums for a reason/solution, but mostly just found others with the same problem.

Yes, unfortunately. But I think it's a good deal considering it only costs 1.5 CDs per month ($15). I've been discovering lots of new music by downloading other peoples' playlists.

Currently using this.

If Apple doesn't announce a 32GB ipod touch this Tuesday, I'm gettin' me a Zune.

I'm just wondering if anyone got extended warranties at all for theirs? I'm kind of leaning towards getting one just because it's a HD-based player.

Also, there is no AC charger included correct?

Touch doesnt come with a AC adapter either.

yeah, same here......hopefully there is some sort of fix in the works

Anyone know if any of the iPod accesories work for the Zune?

I need to replace my Nano, and I'm considering a Zune, but I purchased a Monster FM transmitter for my car and that's about $60 down the drain if it won't work for the Zune.

Thanks. I was looking at pictures of the Zune online and the docking part on the bottom looked about the same as the ipod's. Oh well, guess I'll be buying another ipod.

Kind of sucks, the Zune looks to have some great features and better pricing.
yeah, same here......hopefully there is some sort of fix in the works
Don't get me started . I listen to podcasts most of the day at work .
They better fix the unsubscribing problem and prune the repeats out of the Podcast Marketplace .

I don't get repeats in the Zune Marketplace, but did in the itunes music store. It's my understanding that it's the fault of whoever is populating the podcast's RSS feed--and that's the show's producers not the Zune Marketplace.

Here's my Zune "punchlist" based on my experience with my 30 GB using the new Zune 2.0 software for the last couple of months:
1. Fix the random podcast unsubscribing problem
2. Refresh podcasts more often/more easily than selecting all and then rightclicking to update
3. Allow me to make a podcast playlist or play all of an entire podcast artist in sequence
4. Auto-rotate photos so that they will display using the most screen area every time
5. Fix wireless sync so that it will work with a wider range of hardware and work more easily.
6. Transcode podcast video while processor is idle and Zune is not connected for quick & easy sync
7. Better stability for the Zune software--upgraded my motherboard and everything worked on my PC except for the Zune software. Tried about a bazillion fixes both authorized and not--ended up reformatting and starting fresh.
8. Faster switching between tabs. I get a noticeable delay when switching between categories of my content collection. I have a new Core 2 Duo maching with 2 gigs of RAM running XP (not the "new" Windows platform which I could understand some bugs on) --there's no reason why I should have a 2-3 second delay when browsing.
9. Support for pictures in podcasts
10. Fix random images being incorrectly associated with files that don't have a picture already attached to them

I bought the new Zune 80 GB to replace my old 30GB Ipod.
the NEW Software in the Zune is atrocious and a piece of crap. If you have the old Zune with the old software and firmware, do NOT upgrade. Just check the Zune forums if you need proof.

And if you're looking for a new player. Even though I really like the new Zune Hardware... Just save yourself the headache and buy a ipod or some other player instead. The Zune software is Broken and unuseable to no end now and Microsoft is basically ignoring the entire community about fixing the issues.

I'm not sure what forums you're talking about, let alone what problems you are talking about. Zuneboards does not corroborate what you are talkinga bout. I like the new software on the Zune, and I haven't had any problems getting it to do what I want it to do (except play divx).

Zune boards is not the official forums. It's a fanboy forum.

http://forums.zune.net/3247/ShowPost.aspx

New Zune Software is a joke. Wrong album associating art, horrible performing list browsing, splitting up compilation albums w/ different artists into Individual albums. It's pretty pathetic.

Bottom line, if you buy an old zune, don't Upgrade the firmware or the new software, it'll just bring you grief. And plain and simple don't buy a new one especially. if you do, make sure it's from Amazon or someone who will accept returns. I bought mine from Zune originals customized so it cannot be returned.

So anyone know what kind of case i should get with my zune 80gb? ive been carring it in a blue soft cloth for a month and kinda want a proper case for it...

Yeah it has problems.

But if you would have searched around on those forums you would have found simple solutions to all the software problems that dont take up much time. I understand the frustration some have, but shit if you have no patience to work with something you paid for, then you probably should have put more thought into your decision.

I love the new software, mainly because it doesnt fuck up my computer like the old version and its alot faster and easier to manage. there are a few Hiccups but its not a big deal breaker.

Most of the functions they describe in that thread you posted are one's that i personally never took advantage of, As a straight up Music Player its excellent. I set the player on Random and Shuffle and have a blast all day long.

But as for telling people that its not a device not worth trying, keep that out of the thread, Thats your opinion and its best to let others find out whats best for them. You dont like it...Well its your loss.

I hear those Creative Zen players get great reviews as well as the Sansa's

In the next week or so, Speck is supposed to be releasing their line of cases for the 4, 8 & 80. Their Toughskin case is one of the best you can get . I think i only paid $15 after GCO for my 30gb one, the 80 should be around the same price once it's released.

Below is a pick of the 30 gig version. It has a beltclip, removable screen protector, and obviously is sturdy enough that you could throw it against a wall with no damage (though i wouldnt personally try this). I'd imagine the 80gb would be the same except there would be room to use the touch feature.

I went with this for my 30GB. Love it. Only issue I have is sometimes it's hard to hit the two smaller buttons.

Doesn't really help you, as I can't find a 80GB model version.

I actually haven't been using a case and it still looks new after about two weeks of being carried around in my pocket. The glass screen and aluminum back are much more scratch proof than iPods.

Only way I would get a Zune is if I can download music on the 360. Don't understand why MS doesn't have this feature yet.

What do you mean "download music"? They don't support purchasing music through the 360, but if you mean copying music to your 360s hard drive, then that's kind of pointless. You can plug the Zune in to your 360 and play music off it (and well charge it in the process) or stream music from your computer to your 360. Both options let you maintain your music libary on your computer instead of having to manually keep your 360 in sync.

no problems with the new software here. i've used Itunes......no preferrance either way.

Zunepass sold me.....all you can eat music=future

as far as the wrong album assosciations they released a media reset tool on the down-low that has had good success fixing the problem.

check microsoft.com for that

Yea I like the Zune software, it's definitely more pleasing to the eye than iTunes. I've had zero problems with album art or anything since I just filled my library entirely with Zune Pass downloads.
