Theres a "Picture Size" button on my remote for my TV which cycles through 4:3 16:9 etc. Might work for you.

I personally hate when they just slap Sonic or Mario's grill on just about any sporting event you can dream up, even though its kinda different starring the entire Sega cast, but the "Mario Tennis" "Sonic Spinball" stuff still disappoints me.
