Catherine (PS3/360) Discussion - Out Now!
So you're saying I should cancel that bottle of KY with my order?
Course not, one can never have too much KY.
Really? Buy it from a normal place like Gamestop and then we'll talk.
I stand behind my initial statement saying boxart would never discourage me from buying a game. This applies regardless of location. Besides, people don't know me at Gamestop, and would probably not bother to do so, which makes it easier to endure the one time act :).

On the topic of Catherine, I hope they release a limited edition or add promotional items, considering that both Persona 3 & 4 received bonus content. Not expecting anything though, since I'll probably be disappointed when nothing comes up.
You're correct, sir. There's someone on the forum I regular that has played through the Japanese version of the game. He says that the trailers and promotion for the game has, quite frankly, dooped the consumer. The actual game isn't all that sexual in comparison, and he says if anyones expecting this game to be then they're going to be very disappointed. He also dropped the bombshell that the game actually has a villain, but the revelation is very downplayed, almost hilariously so.

So yeah, if you only wanna play this game cause you're expecting, ahem, 'adult content' then you might just wanna play some of the other games around with that stuff. People should have known this just from the game not being Cero Z.
Mostly just went by what evidence was out there, the rating, screens, and trailers. But I didn't expect more than I'd already saw.

I wouldn't say they dooped anyone as much as they showed "exactly" what was in the game and if people had other expectations then it was their fault and no one else's, but yeah, I truly do expect to hear lots of whining about two things when this game is released upon a ignorant buying public.

1 ) No tits

2 ) It's a freakin' puzzle game

Just watch. ;)

There might be a soundtrack release, since there is an official OST release out there (I found out about it when I was looking for the name of the title theme, which is "Yo" by L-Vokal for those curious)

Info can be found here...for those interested.

Chances are if they do release a promo, it'll be a pillow case or something.

Still sure you'd be able to bring yourself to buy that in a store?

It truly amazes and entertains me watching this thread. I really can't believe how many people are expecing a porn game simply because the ps3 boxart shows a bra strap.

Half the people are excited because it's by the Persona team. The other half have no idea how CERO works. You think we get censored games and no "nudity"... there's less of a chance a decent-selling console game in Japan having straight up nudity than it is in the States or Europe.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited about the game because the game looks very unique. Even if it is a puzzle game, it's got Persona-ish elements to it, and it stars the guy in Persona 3 who was in the dance club at the bar.

The first pressings or preorders (don't recall the specifics) in Japan came with a mini-artbook (14 pages, IIRC) that really was less of an artbook and more a mini-documentary. It also came with a "soundtrack sampler" that included a bunch of remixed classical pieces. The full soundtrack that I've seen actually doesn't include the music from the promotion.

My guess is that we'll get the booklet and soundtrack.

One location did give preorders a small replica of Vincent's pillow, so you're not too far off. ;)

This video is actually fairly enlightening for IGN and if you're someone like me who is clueless, it can give you an idea of what to expect. Totally not what I was expecting and I'm going to pass since it's just a puzzle platformer.

Thanks for the video heads up! It was great.. except for the guy who was talking.. grrr hipsters

I forgot to mention it in the PSN thread, but for those who have access Catherine has 6 preview videos on the JPN PSN right now, I haven't seen them myself since I'm working on getting the new Yakuza game first. But in case someone wanted to get more looks at the game that's another option as well.

"Hashino also hinted that more patches could be on the way. The staff wanted to get this patch out as quickly as possible, so they made the focus of the add-on content the assist feature which will help those who are having trouble clearing the stages. Noting that this is the lower limit of arrangements and does not reply to all customer requests, he added that there have been a lot of requests for an event scene viewer, and closed off the sentence with an ;) emoticon."

One word: Perverts.

Only in Japan.

It received a "C" from CERO which is 15+, even though there is no actual nudity, I think it will get a "M" rating here due to content.

The disc that came packaged with the game has 11 additional tracks that aren't on the OST. The tracks include those from the trailers (the classical remixes) and a few others I hadn't heard before. It's a fantastic companion piece.

Here are the tracks:
1. Holst - Planets Suite
2. Beethoven - Symphony No. 5
3. Bach - Little Fugue in G minor
4. Dvorak - Symphony No. 9 in E minor
5. Rossini - William Tell Overture
6. Borodin - Polovtsian Dances
7. Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition
8. Bizet - L'Arlesienne Second Suite
9. Chopin - Revolutionary Etude
10. Handel - Hallelujah Chorus
11. Chopin - Piano Sonata No. 2

EH?! You mean that awesome Flight of the Valkyries remix, too?! I gotta download that. Looks like several people have upped it at my usual source (Final Fantasy Shrine Forums), not sure if I'm allowed to link that tho.

No Wagner, but then again I don't recall hearing Flight of the Valkyries in any of the trailers. Either there's a trailer I haven't seen (most likely) or you're thinking of a different track.

I don't actually know if the song is Flight of the Valkyries, but when I asked what song was the remix of that was the answer I got. The trailer I'm talking about is the one Atlus US used as their English trailer.
Wow, I've known that song since childhood. Never knew the title or who did it, tho.
And you likely have Warner Bros. animation to thank for it. You'd probably recognize quite a bit of opera too, including Orpheus in the Underworld, The Barber of Seville, and Carmen. :D

An older post of mine in this thread might be useful too. ;)

Didn't think I was being too subtle when I posted a link it my other posts. Anyway if anyone hasn't look I'd suggest you do so, if you're interested in the games music.

I really want an actual artbook with the game though. I saw the one Japan got, w/ the classical remixes OST but that really wasn't an art "book." They advertised it as such, but it's just a pamphlet. Sucks :/

Eh, it's another interesting PR campaign from them. It's basically free publicity. I wish other gaming companies would take their PR/advertising approach: low cost, but huge impact among hardcore gamers.

Those of you who are considering ordering the game online so you don't have to have a person in front of you scan that smexy boxart and judge you can have a sigh of relief, as Atlus US were quite aware of this issue... unfortunately instead of a tamer slipcover they seemed to have solved the problem by censoring the boxart.

Instead of the orignial Japanese boxart we were getting, we're now getting the same images... but zoomed in on C/Katherine's face. Amazon apparently has seperate listings for these two covers, but I honestly can't believe that Atlus would print half their shipments with one image, and half in the other. But who knows, maybe they are... or maybe they really are censoring the boxart and Amazon simply hasn't gotten their listings quite right.

I was willing to face the massive embarassment of buying the original cover and still am. Heck, even planned on buying it at a place I'm seeking employment (Kmart).

Personally, I prefer the change to the PS3 cover (and I'm one of the few that prefers the original PS3 cover to the 360 cover).

too bad kmart wont be carrying this game

Jesus Christ calm down people:
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/04/27/alternate-catherine-cover-art-for-north-america/

“In addition to the existing North American covers for Catherine on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, there will also be modified designs that appear in select markets. The vast majority of copies available at launch will feature the cover we originally unveiled, essentially the Japanese cover of the game. A small percentage of copies, however, will feature a cover that is more considerate of certain retailers’ broader customer demographic. Fans need not worry; Catherine’s cover art is NOT being altered for North America. There is just an extra option being made available for more sensitive shoppers.”

Well kudos to Atlus for printing two different box covers. I prefer the 1st one; I'm 34 years old, and damned it, I want my freaking half-undressed anime chick.

What proof do you have of this? Because Kmart is known to not carry more obscure titles? My local Kmart has copies of Persona 3: FES.

You, my friend, have been sig'd.

I'd care more if they made the cover reversible. PS3 cover on one side, 360 cover on the other (unaltered pls).

I'm glad there's a choice at least.

Yeah, we were all hoping for that. But if the censored cover becomes the norm, I'd rather the reversible cover be the original uncensored one.

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/05/02/youre-gonna-love-atlus-deluxe-edition-bundle-for-catherine/

Not really worth the extra $20. It's awesome we're getting the soundtrack disc and artbook if we preorder, tho. But just keep in mind that the soundtrack disc doesn't actually include any music from Catherine itself, it is instead a bunch of classical tracks remixed which were used in trailers and promotions. So for me it's the artbook... but if Kmart does have a good deal on the game then I'll have to forget he artbook and buy the game there.

I'm probably gonna pick up a PS3 Deluxe to keep sealed (looks like a very small print) and a alternate cover standard edition to play... but then WHAT ABOUT THE 360 COVERS :(

Damn you Atlus.

EDIT: Make that a DE copy for the 360 too. Goddammit, I'm a dumbass for doing this.
