Dead Space - Gen. Discussion & Info

I finished the game yesterday. Took about 12 hours on hard using the plasma cutter only. I kind of got pissed off at the end when I found out you do not get the 150 point achievement for playing it on hard which I thought it was the highest difficulty setting only to find out you have to play through a second time on "impossible".

I played a few levels on impossible and it seemed kind of easy especially after already finishing the game with the plasma cutter & on hard difficulty.

i need to finish this.
im about half way through. bought one of the rig/weapons packs a while ago and havent turned it on since. its hard to find time for this game because i cant play it around the kids.
ive really enjoyed it though. extremely good game.
picked this up yesterday with my $30 raincheck at Target. So far its been quite a bit of fun.
DAMM THATS WHAT I SHOULD OF DONE

Just beat this. Fantastic. I think its beat I can't start a new round on a different difficulty, at least let me move onto hard from medium. I understand you shouldn't have an advantage for Impossible Mode...still.
I watched the entire animated series comic on Xbox live today, man did that get me in the mood to play!
That's what got me, too. I was excited about this one some time ago, but it fell off my radar. Then, about a week before release, I decided to just watch all the episodes one really, really late night, and I simply couldn't wait to get my hands on the game.

I finished it on hard a couple of weeks ago, after I played a few chapters on impossible and truthfully I couldn't tell much difference in difficulty especially since I used the plasma cutter only and beaten the game already. If I were going to play it twice I'd go for impossible mode 150 gamerpoints(finished on highest difficulty) & use all weapons to get the 30 kills per weapon achievements:)

Are you serious? I watched the first one and I almost fell asleep
Make sure you all watch downfall. Movie is fucked up and it's neat to know what happened.
Watched the blu-ray and agree it rocked. Really added a lot of depth to the games lore.

So, I got in the mood last night and finished off the last 5 hours or so and beat the game.

For those that beat the game, that little surprise almost had my trousers destroyed.

Bumping an old thread...

Anybody else check out the preview for Extraction in this month's GI? God damn you, EA! I'm gonna have to spend a weekend with my nephew and use his Wii.

I have to agree, like Resident evil in space with better controls, cant wait for the next one.

I am a good way into the game. Its not scaring me really, but the atmosphere is fantastic and it is just a really damn good game. Once you get about half way through you realize how good an Aliens (the movie) game could be if it was done by this team. This would be the perfect environment for a four player co-op shooter set in the Aliens universe.

The difficulty curve in this game is really well done too. You fell almost invincible at the beginning of the game and then gradually everything becomes harder to beat even with the upgrades.
The saw gun is awesome BTW

I got 1000 GS on this game a few weeks ago, what a thrill ride. My final run was on the hardest difficulty with ONLY the plasma cutter (for the One Gun) achievement and it was a rush. This game is totally fantastic.

Is it possible to change the difficulty for a round 2 (or 3 etc) play through? I just beat the game and don't want to start over with everything for impossible difficulty.

Unfortunately, no. If you want to change difficulty, you have to start a new game. You can, though, use the codes for credits and nodes without it affecting any achievements you're looking to get, so it should help to alleviate the pain of losing all of your equipment a little bit.

I finally got around to beating the game on impossible with just the plasma cutter. God, I love this game. Can't wait for the sequel. I wish Extraction wasn't just for the Wii.

Yeah I beat it on impossible and did a continued game of my first play through. It was a pretty sweet game, I loved the marker music.

I just bought this and played the first chapter, and I'm very impressed. Great atmosphere, and it's definitely a game to play in the dark on a nice TV with surround sound. I downloaded the free suit but deleted it, so I'll try to find it in my download history if it's not still available. Does it offer any sort of bonus or is it just for looks?
This thread being bumped made me realize I need to finish this game.
yes. you really do.
best story twists i've experienced since Bioshock.

It's a good game. But when I was playing on PS3 it was a long, boring trudge to get the platinum trophy. Especially when you have to escort a crate...

I watched the first 30 mins of downfall last night; mood setting and tone was great. This will be a fantastic way to lead into the actual game....

Yeah, I found Downfall to be pretty good, too. I watched it after I played the game, though, and many of the continuity errors annoyed me. I'm a little anal like that. You should also check out the motion comics, which I felt were done quite well, too.

I'm bumping this right now to remind myself to finish it. :D

Hopefully you can square king, I'm about to 1000 G it just need to finish Impossible mode and I'm also doing the One Gun so shouldn't take to long. I'm just getting a little burned out since this is my 3rd playthrough my nerves can't take the surprises no more >_

I finally got it today, and I noticed an insert that said if you buy the Downfall bluray, it comes with 2 exclusive cheat codes. What do the codes do, and are they DLC codes that expire?

Intense. Played for nearly 2 hrs in the dark, with so many great freaky moments already. The sound is amazing; very disturbing.

This game is more Resident Evil than Resident Evil 5! I actually feared these necromorphs more than those Uroboros/Las Plagas people.

So far, only encountered naked necromorphs and dressed necromorphs. And that was way too intense already.

Thinking about attempting the one-gun on my very first playthrough on normal. :twoguns:
I played the demo, it seemed like a lot of fun, but also difficult.
Not sure why, but both the RE5 and Dead Space demos were really tough. I think because in Dead Space, the demo dropped you somewhere more advanced into the game. In RE5's demo case, wonky default controls and insufficient weapons. [controls easy to fix though]

I picked this up last year on Amazon's Black Friday sale but have just started started playing it in the last few weeks. I think I am starting Chapter 8 right now so I have made some good progress so far. I really like the game a lot, I don't play a ton of horror games because I'm a bit of a nancy boy when it comes to the horror genre. But I just love this game, I have almost no complaints at all so far. I played and beat RE 5 when it came out in March, I am so glad I played it before this. I loved RE 5 but as a horror game it fails miserably, especially compared to this.

I would recommend doing the 1 gun (pistol) achievement on your first play through on normal/easy. Its really the best gun in the game especially after you max it out.

Forgot to post that I beat the game. Absolutely loved every moment of it. Used the pistol as my only weapon, and got a lot of achievements throughout my first playthrough on normal. Definitely a game I'm going to playthrough again, but I'll wait awhile and let a few friends borrow it and play through it, because I've been gushing about this game and now everyone else wants it.

I love this game so much... I can't wait to see the movie they are going to make soon, with the director Dj Caruso who made Disturbia and Eagle Eye.

Yes! Both of those movies were stellar. It's destined to be great now!

you're kidding, there's a Dead Space movie in development? good lord, why?!

Dead Space was based upon the best elements from The Thing, Event Horizon, Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill, Alien, and Half-Life 2. - GameInformer October 2007, pages 62-63. In a way, Sunshine may have been a good influence as well.

Dead Space gets so many things right: mood, creepiness, scares, fear, etc. On and on.....

I hope EA pushes forward with Dead Space 2. I'm not sure if this is possible since I'm only on chapter 4 and don't know the outcome. *trying to avoid spoilers*

Yes, in addition to the Wii prequel, a Dead Space sequel is in the works.

Just completed Chapter 10, with 2 more Chapters remaining; already 24 hours into it. 24 hrs divided by 1.5 hours = 16 very-good scary movies. Good value.

A few nit-picks:

Chapter 8: two graphical glitches.
first, after repairing the astro-array, riding the express gondola back, next room glitched. second, when attempting to enter tram, the entire area glitched, making it guess work to step into the departing tram [very frustrating].
Chapter 9: two graphical glitches.
first, after grabbing the singular core, a cooridor interior popped into the walkway. second, after defeating the brute and riding the elevator down, the explosions locked up the game and system. Not too happy, had to reset and replay from previous save point.
Chapter 10: three graphical glitches.
first, crew b or c block, bed exterior. second, elevator interior next to zero-g basketball. third, executive main area near captains' quarters.

To me, I think the story could have been told with perhaps just four Chapters, comprised of #1, #10, #11, & #12. The rest were filler Chapters, with errands from Kendra and Hammond. I don't think I'm alone when I say, 'Damn, I have to fix this ENTIRE ship!? What's next?' This game is artificially lengthened.

Dead Space 2 could use more boss battles. Quality Assurance should not slack off towards the end. Yeah, I'm expecting more graphical glitches in the final two Chapters. :dunce:

edit: saw the new platinum hits /earned Dead Space packaging earlier this week at Best Buy.

I wasn't looking for it, but I don't remember any of the glitches you describe above when I played the game to completion.

Dumb question, but is the disc clean and scratch free?

My only real complaint is I didn't care for the Store aspect, the pay to play DLC armor, or the using nodes to upgrade weapons. (I generally don't like stuff like that in any game, not singling out Dead Space in particular.)

That being said, this game is amazing, every FPS/TPS fan should play it.

I would love the Wii prequal game to be put on the xbox arcade, I feel like we are only getting 1/2 the story unless you own multiple consoles.
