Sorry if this has been posted, didnt see it anywhere...
WB has rolled out a program to upgrade your current dvds to blurays!
http://www.dvd2blu.com/
There are about 79 listed as of now and most can be upgraded for just $5...you mail them your dvd, they send you the bluray new in packaging...pretty sweet deal!
I haven't tried it yet, but I probably will
Hope this helps some of you, I'd love to see it rolled out to other studios

Have any of you guys watched some of Kubricks movies on bluray? Opinions? I have a set of his movies on dvd and I was wondering if it was worth it to upgrade.

hey guys, for those of you who have done this already, i just wanted some clarification as to how the process is done:

after choosing all the BD's you want and going through checkout, they charge you for the BD's you've chosen and then at the end you print shipping label(s) and mail in however many DVDs as the # of chosen BD items correct?

sorry if that's a little confusing, but I'm a little confused about it and wanted to know how it goes down before I went ahead with it. appreciate any help!
Free shipping is only for orders over $35. They have previously had promotions for free shipping but that was months ago.
Just so I can get a clear understanding......if I choose dvds that total over $35 dollars then I don't need to pay anything? Or do I pay $35 dollars but only shipping is free?

You don't have a clear understanding, so let's fix that right up.

If your pre-tax purchase amount is $35 or more, shipping is free. They charge tax on all purchases, so you're paying tax. If the pre-tax purchase amount is less than $35, then it's a $6.95 shipping charge, so you'd want to find $35 or more to purchase to get free shipping.

That's pretty much how it works. They will send you a order confirmation email which includes the details of your order, instructions on how to mail your loose dvd's, and a shipping label for you to print out.

lol, I did not expect my 16-movie order to get shipped in a fatass envelope. For that many blu-rays I just assumed they'd use a box. At least everything looks like it's in fine shape. Oddly enough one of the movies had a Best Buy price tag on it.

ahhh okay....thanks

I was curious as to what the "qualifying DVDs" are.

Per the FAQ:

Qualifying DVDs: To qualify, the DVD disc(s) must be legitimate, original DVD version(s) containing professionally produced film content purchased at a regular retail or online store. Pirated and/or DVD-R copies or DVDs containing adult content are not valid. Only one qualifying DVD disc needs to be provided per Participating Title purchased, regardless of the Participating Title selected for purchase.

What do they consider "professionally produced"? Could I go to the dollar store and pick up $1 DVDs and send them in? For example I have a DVD called "Jets Volume One: Thunder" that I picked up at a dollar store. The company that made the DVD is East West Entertainment LLC. Would they consider this "professionally produced"? Have any of you tried sending something similar in?

When I called then up and asked about "bonus features" discs and multiple discs from the same set, they told me it was fine without any hesitation.

Also keep in mind that they ask for discs and nothing else. To me this indicates that they do very little (if any) follow-up checking on the legitimacy of the discs you send in. Things like bar codes and SKUs don't come into play, which is different from most trade-in promotions.

With that said, if I had to guess, I'd figure your dollar store DVDs are fine. If you're still worried about it, it couldn't hurt to call and ask.

Just received my second batch of Blus today, it took about a month from date I shipped out my discs.

Also noticed that the "ANY DVD" promotion is still going on. This has been ongoing since December 1st. I picked up some cheap DVDs from the dollar store (some of them were marked down to .25 cents) for trade in and they were accepted without question.

While I like the any DVD promotion, I wish they would change up the available movies. Before the promotion, The Sopranos season 1 was available along with some other nice titles. They were pulled as soon as the promotion began. I wonder if they will ever become available again?

While the price of Blus have dropped quite a bit on older movies, this is still better than retail in most cases.

Received for a total of $44.51 :
1) Million Dollar Baby
2) The Last Samurai
3) American History X
4) Swordfish
5) Training Day
6) Troy
7) Terminator 3
8) The Mask

Wow, I'm glad I came in here and read a bit. I was about to send my actual DVDs to them and here they are excepting any old crap, I honestly can't believe they don't even have to match the title you're purchasing. This is great!:bouncy:

Yeah, me too. I was thinking that I was only going to be able to trade in my dvd versions for blu-rays of the same title. I have plenty of crummy dvd's that I would love to unload for some blus.

Thanks for bumping the thread and reminding me about this guys. I'm thinking of placing one more order. But I need to choose carefully because I'm only five upgrades away from the lifetime limit of 25!

So let me get this straight- I can unload ANY (legal) DVD I want to them, i.e. some cheap first generation flipper disc (like the original Seven release) and have it replaced with any Blu Ray on the list??? It doesn't have to be the same movie???

I think I'm at 20 or 21. But hey, you got friends, right? Time to use them. ;) I'm waiting a little longer to see them get more blus onto the site. I see they added a few TV shows and few movies I've never heard of, but nothing that screams "must have".

This really was a great post for me. I had just got a blu ray player and I had a ton of shovelware DVDs laying around begging for me to throw them away. I found them a new home AND added a good chunk of blu rays to my growing collection at a significant savings. Thanks OP!

Correct me if I'm wrong but shipping to them is free on this right? All I do is print out the mailing label and tape it to a shipping envelope and send it in with my order and dvd discs only. I have some dvds that amazon didn't want that I'm sure I can use. Hell I have been thinking about upgrading my Alien box set to the new bluray one so I might as well send them discs in.
Actually it hasnt Izod.. that was the RedtoBlu program.. which is still active. They just started this one not too long ago.
Wow thanks, I just bought Planet Earth HD DVD set for $1 with incredibly poor looking discs, and I'm thinking about getting rid of the :hd: collection anyway. Not sure if its worth it to upgrade movies like Goodfellas and Batman Begins for $5 though.

edit: Sounds like they charge a flat $7 for shipping with Red2Blu :(

Wow, got my third and final shipment already! Much quicker turnaround than the previous two. I guess the holiday season really had them bogged down with orders.
Is there a limit to how many orders you can do?
I think 25 discs is your maximum limit on what you can do with them.

Is there any way to see how many blu rays you have ordered so far? Also where did you say that there was a 25 movie limit? I've just submitted my 3rd order and i think I am at like 22 right now, but I planned on ordering at least 10 more movies.

http://www.dvd2blu.com/terms.html

Section 8 is where they talk about the 25 disc limit per household. I suppose you could use another address for your last order and work around it that way.

You'd probably have to call them to see how many you ordered, or check your confirmation emails and figure it out from those.

I got first order today and the turn around was only a week and a half. I didn't even receive an email saying they received my old DVD's. They are working fast.

Has anyone received damaged Blus, have you tried getting a replacement and how? Two of the cases are damaged on the ones I received, one prior to shipping and reshrinkwrapped and another during shipping. the one's just missing a corner, which isn't bad, but the other is torn through the insert on the spine.

I'd call their CS number and let them know about the issue. I've not done it previously, though it's the same CS that they use for WBShop.com, and when I've dealt with them previously, they were easy to work with.

Thanks, I tried sending a message through their "contact us" link at the bottom of the page and they responded and resolved it quickly.

LoL The email link didn't work too well for me. I waited about a week for a response and decided to call instead. Of course I received the email reply two days later. :wall:

Once The Sopranos comes back I would love to do this...

I'm waiting for this also, but something tells me we will be waiting in vain. The Sopranos was pulled as soon as they started the "ANY DVD" promotion, which was back on December 1st. With how much time has passed I think they have no intention of adding to the list or revising the promotion. I think this deal has been put out to pasture.

did they ever offer the Harry Potter Movies? I know they have them for the R2B program. But I only have them on DVD and want to upgrade them to Blu.

If I remember correctly a couple of them were offered. Stay tuned to see if they come back.

Possibly a dumb question but reading their FAQs and such I think it is valid.

Do I have to send a copy of a dvd film to get the bluray?

Like...American History X for American History X bluray?

Because the way it reads I could send my extra copy of Film Z for a bluray copy of any of the things listed for the price. Am I correct in that assumption?

No you send them any old crap as long as it's a commercially produced DVD, ie no DVD-Rs. That's what I did, after reading people's posts, and got the Blu-Rays about a week and half/two weeks later. I had some multiple DVD horror collections, the real crappy ones, so I just sent one disc from ea. And saved the others for a possible future order.

To provide another example, I turned in all 10 discs of the Ultimate Matrix DVD set and then selected 10 completely unrelated blu-rays from the site.

Has anyone sent in ps2 or xbox 360 games in to this? I know it may seem stupid but in the fine print they say any DVD that is professionally recorded (aside from porno) that inlcudes animation and such. PS2 and 360 games are both on DVD's so I figured this may just work?
anyone know about the ps2 xbox games? anyone?
There's a phone number somewhere in here that you should try calling. Customer service was really nice when I spoke to them. I flat-out asked if I could use a bonus disc from a movie I had used for their earlier promotion, and she told me yes without any hesitation. Didn't have to wait long on the line either.

Hi,

You can also e-mail them at [email protected] and they get back to you in about 1 business day (I had a question before buying my stuff and they answered quickly). All said, they seemed very flexible about the promotion and pretty much anything seems to be accepted as long as it is produced commercially and not porn.

Back when I mailed out Terminator 3, it came with a 2nd DVD with Special Features.... I guess I'll be mailing that out to them. Now to find some other junk to send...

I just wanted to chime in and say I also just used this program without a hitch. I sent them a bunch of dollar store DVDs (several of which were actually marked down to 25 cents, nice) and they were accepted no problem. Of note - they never sent me an email saying they'd received my package, nor did they ever send me an email shipping notification. They also didn't charge my credit card until the day they shipped, about 3 weeks after I sent in my package. Not a terrible turnaround time at all. Just odd that they didn't send any emails, but I can live with that. I'll probably send in a second batch next month. Thanks for all the info everyone has posted about their experiences, it made it easier for me to pull the trigger on this.

Just wanted to say thanks for the heads-up, guys! I knew of the program, but not that they began allowing ANY dvd to be sent in for any of their listed BD's. I sent in 9 dvds I had in storage the other day... can't wait to get my new bd's back.

I checked out my local dollar tree yesterday and did the same thing. It said 2 for $1 and I got the register and each were 25 cents! The DVDs were a little hidden, but look around the electronics aisle and you should find them laying somewhere. Mailed my final order out yesterday, I finally hit the 25 blu limit... time to switch addresses when they add more!

I'm not so sure they're going to add more titles. Nothing has changed on the site since December 1st of last year. The "ANY DVD" promotion has been in place since then and the title list has not been updated either. I would suspect at this point the deal is pretty much dead. Maybe i will send an email asking but I doubt there would be an answer.

Hate to burst your bubble, Invicta... but I just placed an order with them and received the pre-paid shipping labels.

It's still 'alive'... you little pill, you.
