This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.
with the Audiogalaxy app -- I synced 280gb of music and podcast's and it took 12-13 hours - I know it was a friday evening and it was done by a Saturday afternoon ... but once the sych is done, it should do another full sync unless you delete and reinstall ... when you reboot or restart the program on your computer, it takes no more than 5 minutes for it to sync again (maybe less, but its pretty quick)

edit: it should NOT do another full sync unless you delete and reinstall

also, I didnt think about installing the web program on a second computer like a laptop or work computer -- post back and let me know if that works well ..I wont get to mess around with that until the weekend!!
I didn't install the program here at work. I simply went to audiogalaxy.com and logged in (just like zumocast. . .when it works). Audiogalaxy pulled up my collection of tunes and let's me pick and choose whatever I want to listen to. Slick! No more being stuck with my limited selection of what I can carry with me. Now I've got the equivalent of a couple of month's worth of continuous music. As long as this thing remains stable, I'll be one happy camper. I remember when I first started using Zumocast, it was awesome. It streamed everything (music, movies, PDFs, whatever) without a hitch. A month later and it would rarely connect with my Mac; always said the server was offline. Hopefully, Audiogalaxy will keep streaming as well as it's doing right now.

I almost posted this but it's not quite free yet so I held off. Looks like they're still updating it. It asks me if I want to buy it and that my account will be debited for the purchase, been like this for the last half hour now.

Wordsalad The Crazy Wordsearch Game is currently free. I good wordsearch game if you don't have one already. Fun on the train to work and doesn't take up a lot of space on your device either.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/id397414136?mt=8

Doodle Minesweeper is new and currently free. Another classic commuter game with a doodle graphics twist.

Through to Iota is the latest Openfeint game of the day... I'm not even sure what to say about this one... it's like shuffleboard.

Anyone who owns GTA care to comment on the control scheme? I was tempted last time it went on sale, but the reviews complaining about the controls keep putting me off.

Very odd. I also downloaded AirRaid2010 this morning without incident. I went to look for it just now and it's not even listed in the AppStore (at least not the mobile version). I definitely have it on my phone, though. Wonder why it was pulled. . .

I really like Textropolis. They give you city names, and you try to make words out of the letters. Words equate to population, so the cities grow as you play. Both my wife and I played this a ton when we first got our iPhones last year.

Agreed, it was one of my favorite iPhone games until I completed it.

Chu chu rocket dropped to 4.99 for iPad.

Also the smurfs game launched and is universal and free, as is the Lego creationary game, both seemed fun ESP for kids.

Played a little gta:cw and it controls ok so far, the graphics and production quality is unmatched on the iPad so far.

Thanks for posting the deal on Tilt to Live, Downhome. I'm thinking about biting at $.99 but according to appshopper it's been free before. I'm kind of tempted to just wait till it drops to free again. I still think it's a great deal though.

And it looks like the iPhone version of Chu Chu Rocket dropped to 2.99

Monster Fights has dropped from $2.99 to $.99 (http://itunes.apple.com/app/monster-fights/id399248503?mt=8).

"Unlike the general Middle-Ages Heroic games, the main character of this game is a monster, not so wise but strong.
Of course, numerous monsters used to be killed by heroes with swords during that time.
However, when the children of the monster were taken by human beings, it went furious.
Now,Begin you journey to save your children and teach those arrogant humans a lesson with your fist and your huge feet!"

11/11/10 Morning update:

Drunken Klaus 3D is currently free. It's a "tilt to stay upright as long as possible while drunken" game.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/drunken-klaus-3d/id336919602?mt=8

Into The Blue SD is currently free. It's a pretty fun RTS/TD style game.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/into-the-blue-sd/id398897674?mt=8

Helljump 2 is free again... it's a decent jumper game if you don't have a good one on your i device already.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/helljump-2-new-adventures/id388630667?mt=8

And as mentioned a page ago, Tilt to Live has dropped to $0.99, and for those on the fence or don't know what that game is about, there is a lite version you can try for free!

http://itunes.apple.com/app/tilt-to-live-lite/id399657289?mt=8

That's all for now... not a good morning roundup so hopefully today has some good freebies! :)

I didn't get geometry wars because the reviews just say all it does is crash, pointless to pay .99 for an app that doesn't work.

The new Lovecraftian Game http://appshopper.com/games/necronomiconNecronomicon is currently $.99 (from $1.99). I haven't played it yet, but supposedly it's a cross between a board game, a dice game and a CCG. Description below:

The Necronomicon Horror is a single-player role-playing and card game of arcane horror and mystery. Players take on the roles of investigators in an attempt to thwart the evil machinations of a sinister cult who have stolen the Necronomicon from Miskatonic Universities library, and have used it to open the gateway to another dimension--threatening the entire world.

The Necronomicon Horror combines the quick, addictive pace of fantasy card games, combined with the dice-rolling strategy of table-top role-playing games. You can win achievements in the game to unlock new bonus content, and there will be support for downloadable expansions in the future.

Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU!! to the people who recommended Audiogalaxy. It is an amazing app and saves me the tedium of constantly adding and removing songs from my iphone. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Has anyone tried Silverfish? It looks kind of cool and has an intro price of $1.99 (real price in unknown, as well as how long the intro lasts)... You'd think picking up a few GCs cheap would make me spend more, but I think they made me cheaper.

If you're digging the convenience of Audiogalaxy, you may want to give ZumoCast a try as well (http://ax.itunes.apple.com/app/zumocast-stream-videos-music/id386461020?mt=8). It's had some recent updates and seems to be a lot more stable now. ZumoCast will let you set up all sorts of stuff to stream (music, videos, photos, PDFs, etc.) and it's very easy to configure and access. I deleted over 8GB of movies and TV shows from my iPod Touch and just use Zumo to access the content wherever I have a wi-fi connection. If I can't find a decent wireless signal, I use my iPhone with the same app. Brilliant!

Not a sale per-se, but there is now a Lite version of Game Dev Story.

Having seen it plummet off the Top charts, I assumed there would be a sale and haven't bought it yet. With a Lite version though, I imagine there wont be a sale for awhile because the Lite version should sit pretty high in the Free charts.

I must have put 30-40 hours into it and I'm not even too big a fan of these games.

Move over Angry Birds, there's a new champ in town: Angry BirdZ (That's the actually spelling)!

http://appshopper.com/games/angry-birdz

"The all new ANGRY BIRDZ app is here!

Your goal is simple, find the hidden bird in the spinning golden eggs, but be careful, if you miss it the bird gonna be very angry!
We offer 3 different difficulty levels in this extremely addictive game. So build your high score as high as you can!
The upcoming future updates will be completely free!
Have fun!"

This is obviously the greatest iPhone game and will quickly take over the #1 spot from now until eternity... AND, it's an absolute steal at only $9.99! Just in case you somehow can't tell... I'm being sarcastic.

11/12/10 Morning update:

Star Wars: Battle for Hoth has dropped from $2.99 to $.99 (http://ax.itunes.apple.com/app/star-wars-battle-for-hoth/id380048097?mt=8).

And Fantastic Contraption™ is down from $4.99 to $1.99 once again (http://ax.itunes.apple.com/app/fantastic-contraption/id302309578?mt=8).
I'm kind of interested in this one, but I wouldn't mind hearing some thoughts first from anyone who's played it.

"The concept is simple: build a machine from simple parts to move a goal-object to the goal area of the level. The amazing thing is,
for each level there are as many solutions as there are players! The possibilities are endless!

Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a physicist or engineer to build wonderful working contraptions. The simple controls and step-by-step
tutorial will have you building fantastic contraptions in no time! Great fun for the whole family!"

I got Zen Bound the last time it was free and... I don't really get it. You wind a string around an object. That's it. Perhaps it gets more interesting later, but it just about put me to sleep in the time I did spend on it.

Looks like a cool game, but I rather pay extra for the sequel that was just released (includes magnets and some other new stuff): http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fantastic-contraption-2/id397985723?mt=8
Apparently the sequel has some bugs in it, but they are being worked out.
You can try out the flash version for free: http://www.sparkworkz.com/fc2/

-Update-
I picked up the sequel. Only played the tutorial, but so far it feels exactly like the flash version posted above. The only difference is you can hold down on a spot in the screen to have a magnified window show you where you are placing something in detail. So if you are interested in this iPhone game, try the flash version first.

Drift Mania Championship is the latest FAAD title (http://ax.itunes.apple.com/app/drift-mania-championship/id378782714?mt=8).
"Drifting is the act of maneuvering a vehicle through corners at speeds and angles that exceed the vehicle’s grip. A drift is when a driver performs a controlled slide through corners while adhering to the racing line. Drifting involves fast cars, super skilled drivers and hardcore fans.
It’s a combination of driving skill, style and showmanship. It’s all about loss of the rear wheel traction while keeping the race car in total control.
Drifting is so popular because it brings all the best aspects of motor sports into one package. Highly skilled drivers control a high powered street car past its limit, sideways at high speed, burning rubber. It can’t get any better!"
