Super Mario All-Stars (Wii) - 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Discussion
Super Mario Bros was released on September 13th, 1985. How is this year not the 25th anniversary of that game?
Nobody is disagreeing that it's the 25th anniversay of SMB. It just seems very odd that they picked that particular game to build a whole anniversary set of releases around as opposed to the 25th anniversary of Mario the character, etc...I could see this collection, but how is a red Wii or a DSi XL with a copy of Mario Kart connected to the anniversary of one specific game that wasn't even the first appearance of the character?

Ooh, nice... I was going to preorder from Amazon but then I remember I have those $10 coupons from GS and this sort of thing is perfect. Since this is a new item, there are no other promos that apply (like CAG16, etc, which negates the use of a coupon), and $29.99 is enough for free shipping at GS.com but low enough that the $10 coupon makes for a significant savings.

Now if Kmart comes along and offers a coupon with purchase, then that throws everything off ;). But I'm sort of counting on this not being available there or not having a great offer ($10 at best). I need to use those GS coupons and my otherwise useless GS credit anyway.

in case anyone didn't know Dec 12th is a sunday so no release date delivery from Amazon.

I just sold a loose Super Mario All Starts SNES cartridge a few months ago. This will be a nice return to it. I gotta get the pro controller. I have the regular one and it's awful.

It was, however, a huge hit, whereas Mario Bros., while decently popular in arcades, was not nearly as huge. Super Mario Bros. was many, many people's first introduction to Mario, and a pack-in title for the NES.

Not to mention that until Wii Sports came along it was the most published console game of all time. It's release was a pretty big milestone for the gaming industry. It played a key role in helping the video game industry overcome the crash of '83.
Does that really surprise you?
Im not that surprised.

I ordered if from Amazon for now. But once I find out Gamestop is taking reserves Ill reserve there and cancel so I can get it day 1.
May get a 2nd one for my buddy for an XMAS gift.

I had $10 credit at Gamestop so why the hell not? It was either there or using a $10 credit at Amazon that won't hit until Epic Mickey ships. I have a feeling my sisters will probably want to buy a copy of this if I buy them a Wii for Christmas like I'm planning ...

My thought exactly ;)

Went ahead and pre-ordered from Amazon since I had a $10 coupon. Although I wish this would've come out on the DS instead.

I really want the red DSi Xl and red Wii. If both came with this game I probably would've both game/system bundles.

I already own all of the originals and the systems to play them, but I'm a real sucker for commemorative sets like this. To buy or not to buy. . .
And for those that want to hound on this being MSRP. I posted it here because it is a Limited item, and because there are many CAG who don't venture outside the deals forum and may have missed this. Mods can move this to a more appropriate place if they want.
So what you're saying is. . .this is not a deal?

Just fucking with ya; I remember getting this on SNES with my little duffle bag from EB lol.
question, so when was the last time these were released?
They were previously released for the Super Nintendo. However, there were individual GBA releases of the enhanced Super Mario 2 and 3 games that retailed for $30 each. You can also buy the original NES games, no enhancements, on the Virtual Console.
question, so when was the last time these were released? does it actually go in high demand once its OOP?
The games are readily available on Nintendo's virtual console, for about $5 each. Having said that, some people prefer disc releases and the soundtrack and art booklet are nice touches. I still don't buy that this is going to appreciate in value, especially since the games have been released multiple times and as I said, are available on the Wii VC for less.

Are VC games transferable from one Wii to another? I've heard mixed things about that.

I actually like that these are on a physical disc vs buying a digital copy of them. Even without the extras it'd be worth the extra $9 or so dollars over the VC games. Adding the extras just makes it that much better.

Thank you! How are people going crazy over this like it's a deal? This is not even a deal, it's MSRP.

The games are already on VC for much cheaper and most people have those games already. Who would pay $30 retail when the game should be on the Virtual Console? Really sad that the best thing Nintendo Wii can come out with is some old ass Nintendo game. This should be on VC if anything.

I wouldn't buy this.

They aren't transferable unless you contact Nintendo directly about it.

Do the VC versions come with a soundtrack and history booklet too?

And enhanced visuals. The VC versions available are the original NES ones. This compilation comes with the SNES visuals.

How does this WORK???

I bought a few games on my original Wii System.
I sold it about 2.5 yrs ago and just recently got one. Those games ARE on my nintendo club account but Id have to repurchase them at the moment so I never got them back.

Thankfully none of them were any games form this compilation.

Who wants crappy digital virtual copy versions that can't be backed up if your console breaks or you buy a new one? At least not easily. They also can't be re-sold. I would take this package over lame digital content any day, especially if it means not having to hook up the old consoles again.
Do the VC versions come with a soundtrack and history booklet too?
Nope but I can understand if others are interested in that. I don't see how people could be so interested in a booklet and soundtrack though.

To each his own.
Anybody think there will be retailer exclusives?
This is probably special enough, but perhaps a few retailers will include this for free (TRU?) if you buy the anniversary wii...

Cool package - just pre-ordered. If I had to bet, I would think this would be a lot like the Metroid Prime Trilogy pack last year - available for a few months, then it becomes harder to find.

Let's all get this straight. The virtual console versions are the NES versions. Super Mario All Stars contains the SNES versions of each game, with enhanced graphics, audio, and save features added for each game. They are much better (IMO) than the original versions, though some people dig the old music more than the remixes.

Great minds think alike, and so do we. :)

As far as I remember, you would've had to contact Nintendo BEFORE getting rid of the old Wii, I guess it has to do with you sending them your Wii for the process or something like that.
why are people hating on this collection? If you don't want it, why are you poo pooing other people's purchase?
I agree. I don't exactly like Nintendo anymore but this is a pretty neat set. Four games, music CD, and booklet in a special package for $30 is a good deal, even if you've bought the games 10 times already.

Anyone know why I got this?
Anyone know why I got this?
It's Gamestop's crappy anti-fraud system at work. Usually it goes through automatically within 24 hours. They used to make you call up and confirm that you were the one who meant to place the order when you got such a message. I personally would have went with Amazon as they are a much better vendor than Gamestop (unless you have GS credit, of course.)
Also got $10 promo add in and there was no tax charge but no complaints here. Thanks OP.
On Amazon? You're not the first to mention that, but it's just because you have a credit from a prior preorder/purchase. I went to the checkout, and mine showed up as the price minus the credit I have and no other promotional discount.
Do want...but, how many damn times do they want us to buy the same damn game over and over?

Super Mario Bros:
NES
SNES (All stars)
GBA
Virtual Console

This will be the fifth time they sold us this game.
Don't forget Super Mario Bros. DX on Gameboy Color
