Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Went to a different BBV that isn't closing and picked up prepacked Madden 2009 and COD4 for $6.99 each. Rules.
Nice find JJSP!
I'm still checking with the BBVs in the southern parts of Orange County for any selling the POGs myself. The bigger stores that have received them in the past haven't received any yet, or do not know they have received them.

Couple of stores are closing in the OC district that will stop renting on 25th and start a gradual clearance of stock ending in December.

Looks like BBV is yet again shrinking. Will large chain movie rental stores survive ?

Who knows at this point. The Fullerton store (State College and Chapman) goes retail only at the end of the month, while the Santa Ana Canyon and Imperial Hwy stores are the local ones closing near me.

Stopped by my nearest and closing BBV on Monday. I thought the clearance started Monday, but it was actually Sunday and the place got pillaged. Used Blu selection was crap, pretty much the same stuff at other BBVs, with a few rental conversions, except for $14, instead of 2 for $25.

I did end up picking up EDF(360) and Spongebob Atlantis Squarepantis(PS2) for $6.29 each, and Saints Row 2(PS3) for $17.99 after 10% discount.

There's another local BBV that's going to start closing in a week and a half. So I'll be sure to hit that one on day 1.
If anyone's curious, Wii Music and Rayman TV Party are both 9.99 now.
Also saw Sonic Unleashed for the 360 for $9.99. My little podunk store has built back up (via rental conversions I assume) a decent enough $14.99 and under selection. I also saw Secret Agent Clank for $9.99 - may have been that price before but I never saw it. They also converted over a Loco Roco 2 (also $9.99). If they have another B1G1 there's some good choices there.

No POGs and since one of the regulars wasn't working I couldn't ask them to check stock at other stores for me. I think I only have like $6 in BBV credit anyway and no idea what can trade there now .

This was the first time I stepped foot in the place in 3-4 weeks. They did have Brutal Legend available for rent for the PS3 which was somewhat surprising (both that they had it and that it wasn't checked out). I should have brought in one of my old expired Coke Rewards rental coupons and seen if they would take it (they did work in the past at least slightly after expiration).

Interestingly the two stores in my hunting grounds to actually get the POG's are both stores that are closing. They got 360, XBOX and PS2 games. Apparently the 1st store got them last week the day after I checked, so it was pillaged, the Harbor store was a bonanza, GTA IV, Halo 3, Ace Combat 6, and 3 other games, which flipped for a nice 100% profit to GS. Both stores have plenty of PS2 left. Stores are Valley View / Lampson and Harbor / Garden Grove (This store is opposite the GC that's closing). So far 4 of my friends have lost their jobs between GC & BBV, really sucks !!

If anyone happens to come across an extra POG Halo 3, I'm looking for one to play. :)

I'm too lazy to flip any more. RIP local Blockbuster, you were excellent to me when the getting was good. I'll never forget the look on your employee's face when I bought the Rock Band bundle there and paid with a giftcard. Or GTAIV. Or Viva Pinata 2. Or Mario Galaxy. Or Smash Brothers Brawl. Or the extra Wiimote. Or the nunchuk. Or the blue DS. Or the red DS. Or the 4000 point card. Or the other 4000 point card.

Yeah I miss the TIV there... they got me 2 DS's and a PS3 and not to mention a ton of good titles when they had that huge new game clearance earlier in the year.....
I saw pretty much the same thing at 2 stores that closed near me. While they had big "up to 50% off banners" the games were 20% at one and 15% at the other. The 20% store was well-stocked and had plenty of great B1G1 games (this was during the last sale in June/July). However, they told me the B1G1 promo was not running in their system and it would just be 20% off, which made them a worse deal than at regular, non-closing stores

The second store was at 15% during this last B1G1 sale and they had 3 games in their bin. I'm assuming they shipped off the rest before they even started the sale. Lame, though perhaps that's why I found an interesting selection at the BBV that was closest to them. That was the only one in my area that had Pikmin and they had a wide selection of DS games I never saw anywhere else.

While I agree it kind of sucks, I believe Gamecrazy has the same policy with respect to used games. GS is the only place I know of that lets you return used stuff without it being defective. But regardless of the policy, you can run up against jackasses at any store: recently I had to return a defective NEW game at Target and they told me they couldn't because of Federal Law. I was, like, WTF!? GS does it no problem - the Target CS rep told me they must be exempt from the Federal Law or something . I just went to another Target and did it no problem (it was an opened game that didn't work and because it was clearance they didn't have any more to replace it with).
Considering how this entire thread is about how to buy from one store and sell to another to make money how do you find it surprising that they dont trust someone returning an opened game that they happen to be out of haha. I worked retail as a teenager and I have definately learned that someone working returns earns their suspicions because people are always trying to pull one over.

Uh, thanks for digging up an ancient and now somewhat irrelevant post, but I don't think you understood what I was saying. They had no problem with the return (as it was defective which they clearly acknowledged). The problem was that when they didn't have another to replace it with (which is all I wanted anyway) they cited federal law as to why they couldn't then return it for a refund. Regardless, I was able to do it no problem at another Target store, thus my comment about there possibly being jackasses at any given store. The "Federal Law" thing was utter BS.

And while a portion of this thread may be about buying things and trading them in to another store that has absolutely nothing to do with return fraud or doing anything shady regarding returns (which neither I nor anyone else was discussing). You sound like my mother - she doesn't understand the buying new games and trading them in as used thing and keeps asking me if that is legal .

sorry if it has already been mentioned, I saw wario ware shake and Animal crossing wild world were both dropped to $14.99 at my store, are they worth picking up? or should I wait for B1G1?

Don't actually own Shake It, but I played it for a while and it seemed great. However I should warn you games I like tend to be ones other people do not. Anyways, if I weren't unemployed and cheap, I'd pick it up. Don't know about Animal Crossing.

I borrowed Wario Shake It from GS for a couple of days and didn't care for it much. I ran through about 5 of the levels in 30 minutes and it just felt like there wasn't enough of a game experience to justify playing it. Keep in mind that I'm a huge Mario fan and loved Mario Galaxy and all the rest.

Animal Crossing was a great game to me, and very addictive. I played it exclusively for about 6 months, got tons of hours out of it. If you haven't played the series it's a 50/50 for you depending if you like the type of game. I enjoyed it, but after 6 months felt like it became a routine and there wasn't enough new content. You can only catch so many new fish, bugs, and collect so many new pieces of furniture before it feels very repetitive. I think the series has some real potential with a few improvements, and after playing Wild World on the DS I could see there wasn't much of an upgrade to the Wii's version of City Folk. They need a sequel and I'll be in line.

I would also recommend Animal Crossing. Pretty fun game, but I would definitely say it is not for everyone. Haven't played Wario, but it sounds like it will be towards the top of my list of games I look for during the next b1g1.
does anyone else have folklore for under $20? it's been hanging there for years. :p
I bought it for $10 ($5 after b1g1) during the most recent sale...

Couple of big price drops starting Monday 10/26. PS3 only transformers revenge of the fallen from $34.99 to $9.99 and x360 only wolverine from $44.99 to $14.99.
I don't know know why only one version is dropping but that's what is on the reprice report for next week.

Those are some good price drops. Thanks for keeping us posted hawaiiboy. I'm looking forward to the next B1G1 if there is one.

I completely agree with this. I bought it at TRUs B2G1 last year along with De Blob and Lego Batman. There's some neat ideas and it has a really cool art style but at the end of the day it's just not a very compelling experience. And like Converse said I love Galaxy, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., etc.

Most likely either Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Couple of big price drops starting Monday 10/26. PS3 only transformers revenge of the fallen from $34.99 to $9.99 and x360 only wolverine from $44.99 to $14.99.
I don't know know why only one version is dropping but that's what is on the reprice report for next week.
Damn! So Wolverine for PS3 isn't dropping? I usually get multi-platform games on the 360, but started playing it on the PS3 before trading it before finishing it (really, really wanted Demon's Souls). For $14.99, though, I'd take it back. Also wish there would be a B1G1.
does anyone else have folklore for under $20? it's been hanging there for years. :p
I had a copy, which I snagged from Sears for $5, but I dumped it on Toys R'Us for $12 or so since no one was offering me anything decent(except for crappy movie games and stuff not on my 'wanted' game list) for it.

As for me, I'm hoping that WWE Legends Of Wrestlemania will drop by at least another $5 sometime soon. I still have the $16 credit from Cranium Bukakke and I wanna use it up before Blockbuster pulls a Circuit City.

As for a potential for another B1G1, I was told Thanksgiving at the earliest.

Went into one of my 3 BBV's tonight and was told tomorrow at 3 p.m. marks the end of their time as a BBV. On Monday they will reopen as a "retail outlet" store. Hawaiiboy or anyone else, would this make them more likely to get prepack games or to run different B2G1 free sales than the normal BBVs? Thanks for any info.

any store closing or becoming an outlet will not be receiving anymore product so if they don't have prepacks by now they won't be getting any. Also any store closing will not take part in any promos. i.e. B1 G1 free, 3 or 4 or 5 for $20 prp. Everthing will be a % off starting at 10%. So you'll find better deals for movies at non closing stores. I don't have a timeframe on when things will go 20%, 30% Etc off yet but I should know within the next couple days.

Ever since the BBV TIV nerfing the stores around me have started to amass a bunch of converted rentals. i used to buy a lot, but now that I don't have a constant way to get BBV credit I don't shop there anymore aside from a B1G1. There are a lot of titles there that I would purchase if I had the credit, but all my credit is at GS now, so they get my business.

They went from one extreme to the other, having such great TIV's that they were losing money on them, to now having such poor TIV's that they aren't making any money either. Someone should have lost their job in that whole process, and someone that makes some bank.

I've only gone to BBV's for the B1G1 since they dropped all of their TIV's, compared to going on a weekly basis when their TIV's were good. I probably spent $1000 there in 2008 and maybe $200 (B1G1) this year.
So anyone look into flipping Baby Einstein videos?
Flipping them from where to where? Does Blockbuster have them cheap or do they give a lot in credit for them? I already have a set I'd be willing to flip somewhere for decent credit.

Anybody here in the Miami area, the Blockbuster on Coral Way and 87th is going out of business. Everything must go sale already in progress. 9.99 for all used dvds and 10% off for games and merchandise for now.

Yes, they should have found some middle ground. Sadly, due to Gamespot's "specials", you usually do better there. Not good times for flipping. Wanted to do some flipping for a new PSP for my younger son. Gave up as it's just to difficult to do these days. So I bit on the $139 Rockband pack at Walmart even though I'm not sure he's going to be too happy about two things: Rockband on PSP just isn't a great proposition in my sense anyway; and he would like a PSP go which I've told him DEFINATELY not as I think it's the biggest rip off around with no UMDs, no used games possibilities AND a higher price. Oh well, guess Santa just will have miseed the boat a litttle this year (but he should he happy he's getting anything in this economy). I've survived 4 rounds of layoffs this year and am just happy to have a job.

LOL I'm shocked Disney isn't requiring people to provide original proof of purchase, such as a dated sales receipt, for these returns/refunds since this program is going to be very rife with abuse and I see this program ending VERY abruptly once they start getting in stacks of DVD's.

On topic though, I ended up buying Legends Of Wrestlemania over the weekend from my closest Blockbuster for about $8 since I had $16 in credit from a Cranium Bukakke and a $2.31 account credit I had totally forgotten about. It's not a bad game, but there's NO career mode that I've seen and I'd love to play through the career of one of the legends in the game.

That's hilarious. I have some Baby Einstein DVDs.... (I have a 2 year old and a 7 year old) Nobody watches them anymore, might as well mail them in. =)

Only 1 store in my city had ps3 Transformers, they had 2 copies. 1 had $54.99 and the other had $34.99 on it. Dude scanned one and said it was $39.99. Did anyone get this today?

Not me. I tried the first TF movie game and it was a horrible piece of crap, plus I can't stand the bastardization of every TF character from my childhood into those shitforms that they 'reimagined' them for the two modern movies.

The only character that was anywhere near tolerable was Optimus Prime and ONLY because Peter Cullen did the voice.

I seriously thought that Baby Einstein thing was an Onion article, and it's not??? Wow. I think we have some of these DVDs. I'll definitely return them for a refund!
i think the saddest thing is that io and fos have not updated their posts since june
After Friend Of Sonic had all of their work cut/pasted to at least one other deal site without so much as even a credit, I can't blame them for not updating. I'm in the process of trying to rally everyone who runs the main retail store threads(Target, TRU, Sears, Kmart) to PM Cheapy about disabling right click copying on the site.

Although, I would definitely rather if it were done only to the OP's of each of the aforementioned threads(since when I respond to multiple posts, I typically cut/paste the quotes), but I'm not sure if there's a way to selectively do that.

While I'm sure everyone here was on the edge of their seat anticipating your personal views on Transformers, the question was actually did anyone get the game for $9.99, which I'd be interested in hearing an answer to.

If you noticed though, I said 'not me'(as in I didn't get it), then I elaborated as to why.:D I do try to answer questions and then I may sometimes go into WHY I didn't. Excuse me for having an opinion and stating it along with a simple answer to the actual question.

If anything, the two movies should've been renamed Josie & The Pussycats II and III for all of the shameless whoring out of brand name logos.
