Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Whaaa? It seems hard to believe that would have started and we wouldn't know till now (given the usual Tuesday start day for these things) - unless all of us are really ignoring BBV now. I know I haven't been there in a few weeks.

But if there is a B1G1 it is too soon - it needed to be a bit later once they drop more converted rental stuff down into that price range. As metallicoholic noted, there isn't much to buy now.
I was just at BBV in San Antonio and there's a sign up promoting the B1G1 free sale on all used games $14.99 and under. I didn't find anything noteworthy so I can't confirm that it is in fact active, but there was a small flyer in the window as I was walking in. I'm going to visit another BBV this afternoon to try to confirm but from what I can tell it is happening. Just good luck finding anything decent. I was hoping to pick up Bioshock but it looks like they put a $19.99 sticker over the old $14.99 one. The only games I saw that were under $14.99 for Xbox 360 were: The Club, Transformers, Spider-Man 3, Fracture, and Condemned 2. Everything else that I saw was $19.99 or greater.
I'm about to step out the door, I can stop by a few too.
You obviously have never owned a new car... it's the new car smell, man!
Sadly, no I haven't.

Sorry, I missed some pages in the old thread....

What is everyone talking about in regards to new trade-in values? Last time I traded in a game (month or so ago) I got a great deal as usual.

Has that changed or something?

Basically, Blockbuster drastically changed their TIV system to "be more competitive" with Game Stop. Now it seems like the max any game will get is $25, instead of $35 (or $36 for PS3).

I'm actually OK with another B1G1 sale since I just bought a Wii, and I know that several of my BBVs have Wii games that I'd like to purchase.

Yeah but don't forget the games have to be $14.99 or under to qualify.

There is so much at my BBV's, I could easily double any investment into GS credit. GTA4's would amount to $7.50 -> $18 with the current tier promotion. If I could only find that GH/GH2 double pack for PS2 that i saw a few weeks ago, that's $17 base TIV and I think it was $10 at BBV.

Go back and look at the example I posted after I responded to your post (back one page). Those two games would have gotten $35 and $26 or so a month ago. Now they are only getting $25 and $19.
Yeah but don't forget the games have to be $14.99 or under to qualify.
I know. There are several games that are $14.99 and under that I would like to get:

Battalion Wars 2
Bully
Excite Truck
MLB Power Pros
No More Heroes
Okami
Geometry Wars
Nights
Sega Super Star Tennis
Sonic & the Secret Rings
Super Swing Golf 2
Zack & Wiki
Cranium Kabookii

Obviously, not all of these games are available, but a handful of them are at my local BBVs.

A B1G1 would be great as well because of the fact that there a few flippable PS2 games now that Amazon is taking trade-ins.

That stinks, Legendary was one of the decent flips left and it's down under 1:1. I'm using up the rest of my credit on video rentals or something non-game related.

On a side note, does anyone know how in the world that Cranium Bukkake ended up with such an unrealistic TIV? I know there were quite a few others that were equally unreasonable, but it seems like if we could understand it we might be able to find another decent flip like it.

It might be worth calling on the cheaper titles just to see if there is something out there still.

I'm going to call my own finding YMMV right now since I went to another store and saw nothing about the deal going on. Who knows, maybe the flyer was put out early for a sale that is happening soon. I'm going to try to go back to that store tomorrow and ask about it, maybe even visit another store.

I think BBV now knows about the TIV for Cranium Bukkake but they left it there just to mock us. It's just a reminder of how things used to be. There is no way that they could've redone their whole TIV system and overlooked this game again.

Of course, I'm kidding... or am I?

Yoo, which store did you find this at? I doubt it'd be near me or that I'd drive very far to find very little, but who knows.

I don't even have much BBV credit anymore, so maybe I should try the weekly special. I wonder how much my dad will like it if I use his printer to make those labels. And thanks to whoever posted them on the last page. That'll come in handy.

And I was trying to save up GS credit too.

Also, someone please get the trade-in values for Rock Band and Guitar Hero III for this weeks Used Deals. I can't get to it until the afternoon sometime.

Actually, they left it at $16 so they could track down the flippers and anyone who trades the game is going to get an insta-ban.

It's been going in and out of stock for the last several days. Be careful though because it's value seems to be plummeting on eBay.

The other day I bought one of those portable DVD players at BB with some of my saved up credit. We needed it for our 5 hour drive to Oklahoma City so my 2 year old could watch some of his cartoons. It was marked $89.99 but rang up $79.99 and came with a card for 4 free rentals.

Not the greatest DVD player or price but for me it was a good deal since my "actual" money I put into building the credit I used on it was probably $25.

I doubt the store is anywhere near you but it's on Huebner and Military. I'm going to head out there again today to see if I can find out information about the flyer I saw. Chances are the flyer won't even be there anymore, knowing my strange luck.

UPDATE: Okay, so I feel incredibly flippin' stupid right about now. I went back to the original BBV store where I first saw the ad and inspected it further. Apparently the store was using an OLD newsletter as scrap paper because the date on the top said, "FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 23, 2008." To be fair though, the old newsletter is facing out a window toward the entrance of the store. I looked inside the store and sure enough, the other side that was facing in-store was one of those disclaimers about Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 games. Apologies to all that looked into this further but there is no sale going on.

Went yesterday and saw the disc only games. had 360, wii, ps2 and xbox games. looked like the good games were picked clean. there were decent games for wii left but ended up only get call of duty 3 for ps2 for 4.99 to keep.

also had a bunch of other stuff on clearance like guitar face plates, mario figurines(2.99), and other random stuff.

Well, I officially have given up. I flipped some credit over to GS to pick up Halo Wars, and have about 10 bucks at BB. It was good while it lasted.

The only good to come of these changes is io will be spending less time keeping track of trade values.
The only good to come of these changes is io will be spending less time keeping track of trade values.
 (Though Friend of Sonic was doing much of it lately). It's not so much the keeping track of values but the running around to stores that eats up time. But, yeah, maybe I can actually start playing the backlog I've accumulated thanks to BBV! Really, though, with the amount of GS credit I picked up thanks to the last few BBV sales I don't need to flip another game until well into the next gen (assuming I can buy all I want from GS - and with the next gen systems that might be difficult at first now that the GS manager who held me PS3 and Wii preorders last time has moved on to better things).

Wii sports was in stock today and did anyone notice the new price. $19.99 for wii sports. Damn you gamestop.

Wow it doubled in price since it was 10 not that long ago. I wonder how much it will go up.30, 40, $50?!>!
The only good to come of these changes is io will be spending less time keeping track of trade values.
It'll leave him with plenty of time to play Kung-fu Panda!!! :joystick:

Not sure if it's still worth anything, but I just found out that Alone in the Dark for the 360 dropped to $12.99 at Gamestop (Inferno dropped to $17.99)...

Ah, the penny finally drops for GS. They could have easily bumped it up to $29.99 over a year ago if they wanted to gouge. I assume Wii sports just slipped through the cracks in their system, they're usually on top of what's "rare" or gets high ebay value.

I played and beat that 100% months ago (on a free rental from BBV using Coke Rewards to keep this on topic), nietzsche74. I'm on to Banjo & Kazooie Twists and Shouts (as my 6 year-old calls it - have NO IDEA where he got that one from ).

do u need a blockbuster card to purchase any of the titles i know u need it to rent! thanks, do they also write words on the gamedisc itself?

1. A membership card is not needed to buy games at BBV.

2. BBV doesn't write anything on the discs but sometimes they'll put stickers on there. I've only seen writing on the discs at Hollywood Video (rental conversions).

Some BBVs still write on their disks. I know of at least two that write BBV (Store number) on the inner ring of the disk on the top of their rentals.
My local store took my xbox1 trade-ins, but I received just $1.00 for each game
This could be worth noting dose GS sell xbox 1 sports games that sell for 50 cent?

You're thinking of flipping 50 cent Xbox games to BBV for $1 each?
While possible, this is definitely an indication of how sad this thread has become ;).

It sounds like the AitD flips might be viable, though, to get some spending money for any future B1G1.
frankcastle - Are those $10 and $15 quotes from a recent phone call or actual trade, or just old quotes from the thread?
