Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
You're thinking of flipping 50 cent Xbox games to BBV for $1 each?
While possible, this is definitely an indication of how sad this thread has become ;).

It sounds like the AitD flips might be viable, though, to get some spending money for any future B1G1.
frankcastle - Are those $10 and $15 quotes from a recent phone call or actual trade, or just old quotes from the thread?
phone quotes from today verified by 2 stores.

Forgot to mention that a few of my local bbv received b1g1 promotion stuff (posters, etc) last month. A store manager told me that there was supposed to be a b1g1 last month but it never happened. Possible this month? Canceled for good? I dont know. She said she hadnt heard anything since last month.

Good trip to BBV! Ha, when's the last time someone's said that?

First up, new TIVs. All 360.
Battlefield: Bad Company: $8
Mercenaries 2: $8
Star Wars Force Unleashed: $17

Note that all have better TIVs than GS, but are all worth more with the current GS promo.

And then I noticed that my BBV finally got the Prez Day games. Who knows how long they've been there. But I guess since the sale is over (well the holiday is over anyway), they retagged and repriced most of the games. Here's what I found.

$4.99
Golden Compass
Virtua Tennis 3

$6.99
Moto GP 06
Superman Returns

$9.99
Beautiful Katamari
Dark Sector
Gun
Moto GP 07
Soldier of Furtune

$14.99
Battlestations Midway
NFL Tour
UTIII (almost bought this one)

Most of these were games I hadn't seen at any local BBV before. It made me really want a B1G1 soon.

BBV will tank this year. The BBVs around me look like ghost towns and who the heck thought of the new hours. One store is 12p-6p through the week. WTF? Am I supposed to schedule my day around going to BBV?

Even though BB might give a little more extra than GS, BB credit is still worth a lot less than GS credit, considering the better selection of used games and price (after coupon) at GS. Plus the big possibility that BB will go under this year.

I picked up a complete/mint copy of Mario DDR for gamecube for $9.99. Game looks like it wasnt even rented once.

For the record I only purchased the game to trade/sell and do not condone such shenanigans such as DDR or Guitar Hero

So, I'm looking forward to another b1g1 (it will happen, if we all believe). There is a gem of a store near me that still has all those better 14.99 games like GTA4, DMC, Eternal Sonata, etc. But I've seen the people that work there so many times, it's kind of embarrassing. Does anyone else feel embarrassed over this sort of behavior?

Yeah sometimes I have felt a bit weird when I get the same employee every time I'm in there, he must think I play games 24/7 to be trading and buying so many.
Yeah sometimes I have felt a bit weird when I get the same employee every time I'm in there, he must think I play games 24/7 to be trading and buying so many.
The BBV employees at 2 locations know me by name from the mass trading I used to do. It makes me feel awkward when Im in there just to rent movies... and not to trade games or purchase used games. One of the employees keeps asking me if I've finished any good games lately (apparently people actually bought a lot of the used games I traded at their store)... *shrug* Makes me feel awkward, as well.

Well, popped in to my local BBV Tuesday just to see what was up. The manager, who knows me well, was there and I felt like I had to let her know that I hadn't been in in a while and was just checking on things ;). Seriously, it has been 2 or 3 weeks. Nothing really has changed - they still even have some of the $9.99 pre-pack Wii games left. I noticed Folklore was $19.99 used, so that's another potential future $14.99 drop that would be good to get during a B1G1. They also still have that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (still at $19.99). It doesn't seem like much has happened really on the used game prices. And those new ones are still stuck at the same "up to 50%" clearance prices they've been at for months.

Oh yeah, I noticed they did one of their periodical total rearrangements of the game section. For whatever reason, they moved everything around but still had them taking up the same overall space. I guess busy work keeps the employees focused ;).

Wow, I thought my store was the only one that did that. I swear they moved where the games were placed in a few of my BBV 3 times since I started flipping.

Does anyone happen to know what Gamestop checks when it checks to see if you've already reached the limit of 2 per household for Wii Sports? Is it shipping address? Credit card? Because I've tried making new accounts with different credit cards and it won't let me order any more.
^ try shipping to a different address.
I actually tried that too. It worked once with my other credit card, but then when I tried using Discover's Secure Account Numbers to make another CC number and shipping to a different address, it kept telling me it wouldn't work.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to go back to the trouble of manually finding discounted games in stores and selling them that way.
GS is going to have a B2G1 sale this weekend!
cool, lets buy every single copy of bukkake at every GS and trade them into BBV out of spite. Who's with me? :applause:

We just might need some other games around $12.99 to pair them up with.

It's kinda sad; this is the first GS B2G1 since BBV has crapped out on their TIV's. It's just not as much fun as running around getting 5 sets of Legendary, Oblivion GOTY, and AiTD to trade into BBV's!

Just imagine the possibilites if BBV hadn't adjusted their TIV's...I'm sure they would be offering like $48 for SF IV.

max was 36 ;)

Blockbuster get most of their shipments on Friday correct? But I heard somewhere they're not getting RE 5 unti Tues? No.............

I got a call earlier from my BBV saying my copy of RE5:CE will be ready for pickup at midnight. Too bad being a single dad doesn't allow for any more midnight runs.

I picked up Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (Wii) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) from Gamestop (as part of a buy 2 get 1) and since I was going to a blockbuster decided to see what the trade-in values were:

Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (Wii) $10
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) $12

*cough*

wow, so i picked up a couple games from the b2g1 to trade in to bb only to find out that i got banned back in dec. was in shock since i havent traded anything in since then. they wouldnt tell me why only offered the lp number. i went to a different bb a couple miles away to see how widespread the ban was and traded in fine there, so apparently is just a single store ban. that was the store i traded the most to. i only traded 2 copies of the same game there once and they were a few days apart. guess it finally caught up with me. at least at this point i dont care since bb sucks now. i just wanted to get a little credit to buy some movies.

picked up re5 today and now im all out of bbv credit.. I don't know what i'm going to do without flipping..theres so many good games coming out this year too.

Just picked up my RE5:CE earlier and what a pleasant surprise. I forgot that by preordering, it was only $79.99. So with my $5 down, only had a balance of $74.99.

The free artwork was subpar, as usual, but free is free.

I found out today that I won a Wii in that contest they were having a few months ago. I called the lady in charge of the promotion and despite me being a month and a half late she still honored my winningness (?). So, hopefully I will get my system in the mail within 8-10 weeks
Cranium Kabukii still holding at $16, just traded one in today.
Does anyone know how much this game costs used at bbv? I'm thinking about picking one up to keep.lol
Does anyone know how much this game costs used at bbv? I'm thinking about picking one up to keep.lol
It's $9.99 used at BBV, $12.99 at GS... so a better deal at GS w/ the B2G1, but if you've got some BBV credit to burn then it's not bad.

The game kind of sucks though... I like the Cranium boardgame so I tried playing this w/ my bf and sister; the controls were frustrating at some parts and the constant menu clicking really slowed things down.

I had a deal at BBV today, I think it was a mismarked copy of Gears of War 2 for the X360 for only $14.99. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it and promptly purchased and used to trade in @ GS for $25 base. The GS girl did nail me with a $4 refurb, but I ended up stacking to get $30 for trade-in down to $26 total. It used up the last of my BBV credit and pushed me up high enough in GS credit to get in on the B2G1 deal.

The bonus contents look pretty cheap for RE 5....
DSC00181.jpg
Picked up the RE5 PS3 collector's ed at lunch time, come with a BBv exclusive picture frame, although it is as lame as usual.
Actually, this frame is even worse. Look at the picture... It looks like they put a monkey in charge of their photo shop department. Just look at all those blurry pixels.
anything good from gs to bbv with the b2g1 sale.
3 Bukakke's for around $25 -> $48 credit at BBV. ;)
Is it true that the games need to be complete to trade in now?
All of my local stores say that the case & manual are now required. Based on what others have said here, it's probably nationwide.
