Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I don't understand why some of you want Blockbuster to go out of business? Even if you don't dhop there, at least its another option when it comes to buying games. Less compition is not a good thing. I work there once a week just to get the free movies, and them closing does not help anybody.
I completely agree that having less options is never a good thing, but at this point, I think calling BBV an "option" is a bit of a stretch. The reason for wanting them to go out of business is so the rest of the world can see what a horrible, failed business model they were.

Now, I'm not blaming them for adjusting their policies regarding TIVs...you do what you have to do. But to make changes like that and STILL expect yourself to be relevant is asinine. My honest expectation was for BBV to get out of the video game market entirely. But then we kept getting all these reports of how BBV was wanting to become an aggressive player in the gaming market. Do they think THIS is how to accomplish that?

As others have said, making your TIVs similar to Gamestop? Fine. But give us SOME kind of incentive to step foot in your store. Coupons, sales (real ones), promotions, reliable pre-order service, better selection, competent employees...SOMETHING. To me, BBV has relegated itself to being about as useful as my local K-Mart. Is that what they're striving for? haha. It's a sad day, but the truth is BBV has no idea how to sell video games. How much of an "option" can you honestly say they are.
How much of an "option" can you honestly say they are.
During a B1G1 sale, they've been a great option for me. Sure it's only once or twice a year, but I'd much rather have that than see them fail.

I still have about 200$ tied up in value cards. But do they still have the visa cards? I went to artesia/western store and all they had was macys cards. I need some clothes so I'm looking for those cards. If anybody in the south bay finds them pls let me know
I like BBV, the one I go to is awesome, people are really cool. I'd hate for it to go out of business.
Same here, one of the managers even warned me when the district manager was concerned about my activity. I would hate to see him lose his job because i doubt managers make tons of money, but i know his family would still suffer greatly from a loss.

I dont think they really want to see them go out. I just think we are still bitter because they totally screwed up our side jobs.

Warner1281, yeah I checked to make sure my number was high enough and it is. So I don't know what the deal is. I'm going to go into a store today and make them check it, just so I know it's kosher.

But it could be a value card. Could you explain the difference? The card I have you can reload trade value onto it, and it does start with the four letters that are needed on the website. So I'm a bit confused.

Thanks.

EDIT: On the back of the card it says "Reloadable Gift Card."

Damn. I hope they didn't mess up my credit and somehow take it OFF the card instead of put it on.

Well, I hate to be all doom and gloom, but the operative phrase in your statement is "they've been". Unfortunately, we haven't had a B1G1 since the TIV switch, but one can only assume that with less product coming in, there will be less available for a B1G1 (which at this point, it's even an assumption that they'll continue to have them). Of course there will be rental conversions, but there seem to be so many inconsistencies between what stores carry what now (io - LotR: Conquest comes to mind), who knows how fruitful that will be. At this point, we're all just guessing.
Have you checked the K-Mart clearance? Go to the thread, it is useful
As for this, yeah..I've read the K-Mart clearance thread. I did say "my local K-Mart" though. Half the stuff in that thread I can never find. You guys who are able to find tons of games that employees don't either snatch up themselves or allow to just sit on the shelf till they're marked down to $2.97, blow my mind. Target clearance is the same way for me. I can't ever find any of the good stuff. BBV was all I had..and they broke my heart. So, like anyone love scorned, I look forward to dancing on their ashes, hahaha. OK, that may be a little melodramatic, but you get the idea. ;)

Out of spite. I would've much preferred CC stay in business. Atleast, they had pretty good deals on clearance games. I just can't seem to spend actual cash at BBV. I still have $8.xx in credit and don't want to use it because I would have to actually spend cash. It's a decision based on principle.

I'm really just griping. I really don't care if BBV goes out of business since I don't have a use for them anymore (besides a B2G1 sale :D).

BBV stopped selling Vanilla Visa cards a long time ago. Atleast, you couldn't buy them using store credit. Since I haven't been in a BBV since January, I wouldn't know for sure if they brought them back. Try the BBV on Redondo Beach and Hawthorne for GCs other than Macy's. Last time I checked, they had all the types of GCs. The Gardena BBV has always sucked as far as their stock goes.
If anyone cares: Iron Man for the 360 still gets $9 base at Gamestop (picked one up for $10 during the clearance...)
The regular used price at BBV is $14.99, which I just noticed today. It was the first time I was in a BBV in a while. I felt like a jilted ex-lover, hoping to see their used-game selection suffering because I no longer trade there, but I was surprised at how well-stocked they were. Plus much of the newer used stuff was $5 to $10 less than GS. If only they started running regular promotions/coupons like GS ...

Not sure if this is all BBV or just my local ones, I actually saw two of them running this, but if you buy a New game you can pick up any left off art frames that you normally get for pre ordering a game. While most of the art ones were ugly I was able to grab a Guitar Hero one and a RE:5 one.

They just give those to me when I ask for them.

Most Blockbusters around me are running some variant of that promo.

One was really strict and it needed to be two NEW games and you get one framed art. At another I picked up a couple $9.99s from the used bin and she let me have three of the Vault Boy sticker sets and a couple of framed prints.

The value cards say "Value Card" on the front and are yellow and blue on the front. The gift cards are the ones that you see for sale at the front counters. So if what you have is something you normally see when you go in to buy a gift card, then I'm not sure what the issue is. If its a value card, then you can't check the balance (nor use it) online.

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/blockbuster/news-analysis-wall-street-kicking-blockbuster-15096

On a day the Dow Jones soared nearly 500 points, shares of the Dallas-based No. 1 DVD rental service March 23 fell about 11% as investors continued to question whether Blockbuster Inc. can survive the current economic tsunami.

Generating about $1.4 billion in revenue in 90 days apparently doesn’t carry much clout anymore — especially if you are considered a 1980s retail icon seen by some as past its prime.

While investors cite the usual suspects — declining DVD sales and the emergence of digital streaming — a growing chorus of concern emerged of late when scuttlebutt suggested Blockbuster would struggle to pay off a $200 million maturing credit revolver and/or find a replacement source of funds.

Edward Woo, analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities, which covers Blockbuster, said the market’s attitude toward Blockbuster didn’t appear to emulate the optimism surrounding March 23 reports of positive home sales and the Treasury Department’s banking plans.

In last week’s financial call, CEO Jim Keyes appeared to underscore those concerns when he said Blockbuster’s ambitious transformation from rental pure play to all-in-one entertainment retailer would have to be borne more on the backs of third-party partners than internal financing.

When the company announced it had secured through 2010 an amended revolver with J.P. Morgan and others, Pali Capital analyst Stacey Widlitz estimated Blockbuster had now saddled itself with $305 million in debt obligations in 2010, with monthly revolver payments starting in January 2010.

Indeed, the interest rate on the new revolver is below previous estimates, but a monthly payment of $25 million is due in December this year, followed by $20 million payments January to March, $10 million in April, $15 million in May, and $10 million in July and August.

They all pale in comparison to the $50 million payment due in June 2010, according to a regulatory filing.

“The terms of the agreement put [Blockbuster] on a short leash in terms of running the business,” Widlitz said in a note.

What appeared lost in the rush to scrutinize the new funding was that Blockbuster actually reported $80 million in profit in the most recent quarter, after eliminating the $435 million write-down of “impairment goodwill and other long-lived assets.” It also generated more than $152 million in operating cash flow, compared with a $56 million cash burn during the same period a year ago.

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter admitted the terms of the new line of credit were “pretty tough,” but he said people were jumping to the conclusion Blockbuster is desperate.

“They're not, and they are trying to get this out of the way to move on,” he said. “They will access the [revolver] only as a backstop … but the market doesn't like it.”

Wow. Up to page 5 already on the new thread? Then again, I couldn't even find it for the last week and I'd been looking for it to see if any good flipping possibilities showed up.

What a sad thread this has become :( . I picked up Legends of Wrestlemania today; really surprised it didn't come out on Friday.

Hope u didnt pay full price for the that turd.:bouncy:
I would have jumped into this if it was for 360...
15+20ish for the DC... good deal
Same price for the Xbox 360 version.

It's for both. If you can still find a Blockbuster that has them in stock. Or get lucky and they are converting additional rentals.

I actually know one store by me that still has some, but they're disc only, so I'm waiting for another B1G1 sale.

This is still a great deal, though it has been around for a while. I took advantage when it was B1G1 for games $14.99 and less.

Any chance of the B1G1 coming back? Hell, the B2G1 would suffice as well.
Good thing there's no Blockbuster thread this could go in.
The sad thing is, at this point, that's ALMOST tragically true...

I really liked the demo. Only played 2 matches yesterday but I know I'll get my money's worth out of this one. I paid in credit, so full price at BBV is half price anywhere else. Plus, I actually bought Showdown for the xbox when it came out and compared to that, this game is a gem.

I'm sure people will still trade it in once in awhile.

So a question for some of you...

I have over $180 at GS and don't really need any games as I have over 80 for 360 and 50+ have never been played. Before BB dropped TIVs I had been saving up for a PS3, but then that was fudged due to the TIV drops. Any one have any thoughts on whether the new DSi will be a good profit on eBay or Craigslist after they release?

No word yet. I check the BBV thread almost daily for news of this, as there a bunch of games at local stores I've had my eye on.

I'm wondering the same thing, I know they went into short supply in Japan, but not impossible to find. I have 5 on preorder (2 for my kids), and I was hoping to sell the others to pay for the first two, but by all indications I think supply will be good. I have not heard of GS cutting off preorders, and the release is next week. It's 170$, 40$ over the regular DS and no games are being released initially that are DSi exclusives, so the only real advantage is the browser. It sells like hot cakes in Japan, but lets face it, thats not a sure fire indication of how it will sell in the U.S during an economic downturn and especially not during the xmas rush. So I'm most likely only going to pick up the two and pass on the rest. I'm actually going to buy from GameCrazy as they are giving 90$ for traded in DS's used towards the DSi preorder.

My general feeling is no. There are a couple of promos going on out there and enough promotion that retailers should have plenty on hand. Now some colors may sell out (dunno which ones) but I really doubt there are going to be hoards of people trying to get their hands on the DSi. Informally, most of the DSL owners don't seem to want/need to upgrade especially us CAGs who still use their GBA slots. Also there are tons of stock on the DSLs plus the economy sucks right now.
Just went to the local Lake Oswego, OR Blockbuster and noticed this deal.

Sounds really good to me.
Um, yeah, very old news that used to be in the thread title for the BBV thread (I assume this was a new thread you made and another mod merged it here).

Anyway, I'm surprised you found any though I suppose they could have done additional conversions since December. I still have a nice minty-fresh PS3 copy I got from one of the BBVs around there. By the way, that is my territory there (though the outer fringe of it) so be careful ;). Oh wait, never mind since BBV doesn't have decent trade-in values or deals any more...

But for the rest of you, when I used to talk about the "rich area high traffic" BBV that should have had things like the Mario figures and LOTR: Conquest, etc, but didn't, this was the store I was talking about. This was also my last-chance outlet for trading back a year+ ago when I was banned from all my local stores. This is also the store that I kept calling (and probably annoying them to death) about the $9.99 disc-only games. Even though they probably have the highest sales in the region they never got any (along with all the stores from this district as far as I could tell). Otherwise, though, it is a pretty good store not that it matters much any more.
