Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

long sleeve & pants.

A B1G1 sale would be amazing now. I just noticed SW:FU and Too Human are $9.99,

Also, $5 copies of Halo 3 and the other prepacks would be sweet. Halo has been the only game of note I've found at 3 different stores around here.

edit: And Animal Crossing City Folk is at the magic $14.99 mark, if I'm not mistaken. I'd actually spend quite a bit of cash if they had a sale now.

are stores willing to sell any of their games? last time i was at a BB, they only had like 3 games on an end cap that actually had a price tag on them.
My local BBV recently got a disc refurb machine with their snuggies, they charge 2.99 per disk.
Hot damn! Really? I would love it if we could get one at my store. I could use it for free :).
Apparently yes. I can say that I have yet to see snuggies in any of the blockbusters I've been to.
This morning I woke up. It was cold in my room. My feet, legs, arms, and hands were cold. I thought to myself, I wish I had a snuggie...

No Uncharted in DBar, CA. Guy said there was one in West Covina though. Too far, oh well.

It's a sad day when the BB thread (which used to be so mighty and income/game producing) is a snuggie blog....

On a positive note, I was cleaning out my closet and found an entire bag of the mario figures that BB was selling last year. I had forgot I bought them until I saw them again.

I'm tellin' ya, the best thing going at BBV right now is the 2 12-packs of Coke products for $7 deal. That is $3.50 a 12-pack which isn't all that great on it's surface. But BBV's POS being what it is, they do not have a way to charge for the 5 cent per can deposit. So here, at least, I save 60 cents on each 12-pack, making them the equivalent of $2.90 at a place like Safeway or Target. Now that just can't be beat, especially if you use cheap Rock Revolution credit to buy them ;).

Then I'd argue you also have no need for a Snuggie. My point wasn't about the merits of robes. It was that the Snuggie is a completely unoriginal product that already existed, but was just called something else. As I've told many people this would be like wearing your pants backward, Kriss Kross style, and calling them a new product. It's fucking stupid. Anybody who finds value in a Snuggie, I have some Pet Rocks and Solar-Powered Flashlights to sell you.

Damn, Solar-Powered Flashlight? SOLD!

To ATTEMPT to get off the snuggie subject and back on topic, here's a juicy new TIV for you all:

:360: GI Joe -- $19
Available at (some) Target clearance for $12.48, or less after coupon. See the Target thread for details...

yeah, they are supposed to have a bar code to scan for the deposit but of all the stores i've worked at half of them use them and the other half dont so looks like u lucked out.

Yeah, I bought a 6-pack once or twice at one of my local BBV's, just because I had credit to burn, and the cashier did scan a barcode 6 times to charge the extra 10 cent MI deposit. So getting it deposit-free is a big YMMV, cashier/manager error, I would say. But if you have a store that consistantly lets you do it, hey, that's awesome.
yeah, they are supposed to have a bar code to scan for the deposit but of all the stores i've worked at half of them use them and the other half dont so looks like u lucked out.
Ah, I did not realize they had another bar code. They did finally find the bar code to scan for the 98 cent discount (as they ring up $3.99 each before the promo). I suppose it is probably on the same sheet but he just didn't look for it. At least the BBV clerk cluelessness helped me out in this case. This was the same guy who had no idea what I was talking about with the POG games and wouldn't know how to look them up at other stores so I didn't even bother with all that. So at least I saved a couple bucks on can deposits instead ;).

Apparently, Blockbuster isn't going to be outdone by RedBox, as I saw a rental kiosk at a local Kmart the other day. Kind of shocking to see one of these in MY area, since I wouldn't think my area would be a good test market.

They look very similar to the RedBox ones, just with the big old Blockbuster ticket logo on it.

sadly unless they spring it on us last minute there is no b1g1 sale next week. Looks like business as usual. No black Friday deals or anything. We are opening early black Friday but nothing to lure any customers. Typical Bbv.

LOL, weak. Only bother with this if you're an achievement collector, you can finish the game in an afternoon.
Why exactly would BBV open early with no deals? Will there really be a big push for early morning rentals?
I guess its because they know people will be up and about in the early morning so they are trying to catch some strip mall traffic?

Dammit, that really sucks. I just scoped out my local store and they have 3 Terminator Salvation too (2 x 360, 1 x PS3). They also have a TON of $14.99 and under stuff. I think they did a massive rental conversion because they have 2 Wii Music they never had before along with a Mario Super Sluggers, and tons of other stuff. I noticed Scribblenauts is just $19.99 used so look for that to be $14.99 in a few months.

Of course still none of these mythical POGs anywhere in sight around here.

I may just go ahead and buy a few of the $9.99 things anyway even without B1G1, though that will be painful considering I only have $7 in credit right now. And I can't keep trading Rock Revolution for $4 to my local store ;). Are there really no good trade-ins at BBV now? I see mention of some GI Joe game which is moot for me since I have no idea where to get that cheap (if it is Target, I've never once seen it on clearance there at any price point and I've been looking a lot recently with those $10 off coupons!).

Yeah. GI Joe is on clearance at Target. The thing is that it dropped to $12.48 about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if it was taken out of their system on Monday. Out of all the Targets that I checked this week, I only found 3 copies.

I checked both of the "Game Rush" BBVs in my area and there were no POGs to be found.

When does the price change to $9.99 take effect for PV copies of the original Uncharted? I tried one of my local BBV stores last night before heading up a buddy of mine's house and the manager on duty(a rude, loud type who kept drilling me on where I got my info on the drop to $10)and he said the price was still $19.99 in the system.

Then again, this store didn't have any copies on the shelf as PV anyway and I'd have had to buy one out of their store stock for the $1.99 one night rental PLUS pay the $19.99 pricetag.

$19.99 is the new price. They seem to get that mixed up sometimes. When they do that be sure to ask if it is the used price and not the new price.
That uncharted reprice was done on 11/16 and it was $9.99 because I sold it. (to myself)
Well then, I know where I'm going this afternoon then. Hopefully the same manager isn't working though, as he was just loud and rude.

Then again, I guess he still doesn't like me ever since the one time I asked them to combine the 4-6 Value cards I had(back when BBV gave decent values, that is)and the system ended up using about $20 of my credit on the next person's transaction.

That whole fiasco is what kinda put me off Blockbuster trade-ins(well besides the totally shit values anymore, that is).

Made a nice flip today. Picked up Wolverine at Target for $9.98 after coupon and traded it into BBV for $17 credit. Was able to pick up Beautiful Katamari and Fallout 3 as disc-only POG or whatever they are for 9.99 each. So each game came out to $6.50 (horay).

Also I was quoted $15 for Guitar Hero Metallica, which is also $9.98 at my local Target after coupon. Not quite as strong a flip as GI Joe nor Wolverine but worth noting anyway.

I actually bought a complete copy of Beautiful Katamari for $6.99 at BB a while ago :)

Yay, finally found some good POGs. Fallout 3, RE5 & Midnight Club LA all 360. The only other thing of note they had was Saints Row 2. I've never really been interested in RE5, but I just couldn't pass up this price. And I've been waiting to fine the other 2 for cheap.

BBV B1G1 starts on Friday. I haven't seen any Communications Update that says it, but both my Assistant Store Manager and my coworker say they read something that states that it starts on Friday. I asked my coworker if he could find the communications update that says the sale starts on friday and he said he'll try to get it before he closes tonight. I'll update this if I get more info.

Cool! On a related note, I saw that Far Cry 2 (360) is $14.99.

Sweetness. Maybe I should run out and pick up more Wolverine trades...

The Blockbuster on 10th St. near Exit 14 on 465 is closing. Liquidation sale right now, but they marked everything up to full retail before taking 40% discounts, so most stuff actually costs more than it did BEFORE the sale.

Is Far Cry 2 worth it for 14.99? What is it about the game that you like about it? Thx!

I think that it was a typo, but my local BBV had Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes Wii for 9.99. The assisstant manager rung me up and was suprised that it said 9.99 when the computer said $40. She was really cool and gave it to me for the sticker price.

I hate seeing this thread come up as it constantly reminds me of how the Blockbusters around me seem to never have any halfway decent deals...and the many times ive gone into each store when ive had the chance just to get shot down. Oh well, thats what I get for having high expectations from a video rental store haha

I loved the game! Well, for the week that I had it, and I didn't care for the mulitplayer. But the single player game was really fun. Sure it was pretty repetative and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that every single person you come across in the wild (as opposed to in city limits) wants to kill you. But it looks really good and the gameplay is great. I actually took mine back to gamestop as my local store's manager basically encourages using the return policy as a rental period, but I had a blast with it while I had it.

You've read the same thread as everyone else here. One CAG has said yes, but that it isn't in the official Blockbuster system/advertising. Hopefully hawaiiboy or someone else can confirm it soon.
