Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I asked two different stores today and they said no. One of the managers looked at me weird as if I might know more than she knows. The other one said to check back over the weekend as they might do something for BF.

Same here, and the stores where I asked are usually aware of deals. Too bad.

Damn
How disappointing :bomb:

A good way to transfer credit from Gamestop to BBV especially with the b2g1 going on now:

GS Price: Damnation PS3 $17.99
BBV TIV: Damnation PS3 $17.00

Also noticed a few $9.99 games:

Dead Space X360
GT5 Prologue PS3

To those of you who were lucky enough to find a store that did the $10 POG(?) games (games with no artwork or manual), I went back to BBV today to see if they were having a black friday deal and I noticed they had a brand new bin of new POG games. I went 2 weeks ago and cleared out all their World at Wars and Fallout 3, and sure enough, there are a fresh batch of copies in the bin. sure enough, I bought them all again. I asked the lady at the counter and she said they received the batch on Monday.

And before I forget, POG games are also eligible for the "15% off used games" sale(8.50 per game). cheers :)
can anybody who knows please tell me how do I find how much The Bigs 2 (PS3) Trade-in at BBV? Thanks you
You're welcomes.

We have a problem. According to my Store manager the B1G1 has been canceled. I don't know when this happened, but I highly suggest calling your stores when they open (most stores should open at 9 AM) to see if there really is a B1G1 or not.

The hell? Oh yeah, Blockbuster, that's a good move .

As I was buying some $5 games at HWV a kid behind me wondered if Blockbuster was going to run any deal like that and wanted to go check it out. It would have been nice if they could at least try to compete...

On the other hand, if it is really not on, that saves me a TON of running around tomorrow and I can just stay home and play some games instead. That was all I was going to go out for.

I finally went to the BBV that is closing in my area and all video games are only at 30% off. They had a decent selection including 3 or 4 Cranium Kabookiis (sorry couldn't do it). There were some cheap used DVDs to be had, though.

They still had the giftcard display out and were selling them at full price. Also, "everything in the store was being sold off" except for the flatscreen tv and the PS3 in the PS3 display. :whistle2:|

A couple of my blockbusters got new POG shipments in on 11/24, so if you havent checked your stores in the last week, may want to check again.

It's nice to know that there's somewhat of a credit transfer! I'll probably try and see if I can find these somewhere. If anyone else knows of deals, post 'em because they're few and far between.

I'll update if I find anything worthwhile too.

Thanks for that tip! I went to a GS tonight to do some trades and decided to look for this game (which I'd never heard of before). They had 1 PS3 copy and 1 360 copy. I bought those along with Black Sigil for DS (not the best use of B2G1 since that is only $12.99 but I couldn't find anything else). I was a bit worried since you didn't mention the 360 version that it might not trade for the same. On my way home I stopped in my local store and did the 360 version just to be sure (otherwise I'd have to return the whole lot to GS).

It is $17 on teh 360 also! So that makes B2G1 purchases a lot easier. I'll just have to go to a different store to trade the PS3 version by Sunday... If I can get that done then I essentially get a free Black Sigil (I heard it's bad but since I collect DS RPGs I might as well get it) + $32.38 of GS credit transferred into $34 of Blockbuster credit. Then at least I'll have a bit of credit for any potential B1G1 sale in December.

I also got more Coke for $3.50 a 12-pack, no can deposit charged yet again ;). Considering that it is not on sale anywhere right now and is $5-$5.50 a 12-pack PLUS 60 cents deposit everywhere else that is a good deal.

Well, I just went ahead and traded a PS3 version to my local store. I need to be careful in there, not that getting banned from trading would be the end of the world at this point. They have all new employees (who, once again, just like the last batch, I will have to "train" on trading games) and a new manager, apparently (though the old one's name is still up there). But I just traded the 360 version to the guy who I think is the new manager on Friday. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that as laid out in their trading guidelines, but we all know how little that means .

I just wanted to be sure to get the $17 in case it drops tomorrow. I still have one more PS3 version that I will have to take to another store so hopefully it holds through this week at least.

And of course I bought more Coke ;).

TiV 11/30

PSP
Resistance: Retribution - $4.50

360
Damnation - $17
Resident Evil 5 - $10
Dynasty Warriors 6 - $6

12/1/09
iconps3.gif
Far Cry 2 was $9.99 in the original case with artwork and the manual.
I bought 1 and there is 1 left at Flushing, NY on Northern and Bell Blvd.
They had some POGs, but they all suck, not even worth writing about.

Good news IO coke 12 packs are now 2 for $6 effective today (12/4). Unless ur store is on top of things they'll probably still have the 2 for $7 sign but it will ring up automatically so u don't have to worry about the incompetent employee not knowing about it or looking for a bar code to scan.

Still no signs of a b1g1 happening this year.

Damnation still holding at $17.

Might have to take advantage of the GS promo buy 6 get 40% off.

I could be wrong, but I see this as a very bad sign. My thought is that business is so bad that they can't afford to unload that inventory @ 50% off and they need every dollar they can. It makes no sense when everyone else is slashing their prices trying to make some money for the holiday season that BBV would sit on their hands in this area.

I stopped by a location in Baltimore. I picked up Wii Music and Boom Blox for 9.99 each. They had lots of Guitar Hero games for PS3, 360 and DS for 9.99. Other than that, I didn't see too much. I will hit another location on my way home.

Hmm...how far ahead does the current map show? I ask because last year the B1G1 started I think the week before Christmas, so it's possible they are going to do that again, unless you have the map for all of December and it doesn't show anything.

current map only goes out 1 week so we can see whats happening next week but there is also a holiday guide that shows all the different promos by week. i.e. 3 for $20 prps, presales etc but there is no mention of a b1g1. that doesnt necessarily mean we wont have one but you figure it would show in the holiday guide since it lists the different changes and promos we have going on each week.
They had the signs up but it was not automatic - it still required the coupon code scan to take $2 off instead of the $1 from before. But it is starting to be a pain - in order to get Diet Coke I have to move a stack of 5 or 6 regular/Coke Zero/Sprint boxes from on top of the Diet Coke they have way at the bottom. They are also starting to give me funny looks. Of course my paranoia leads me to believe they trade banned me for trading 2 copies of Damnation but just didn't want to tell me (since all I did was buy the Coke).

They also had a bunch of new electronics gadgets and books in that were not there on the weekend. They have DVD players and blu-ray players and some odd Scene-It or You're In The Movies type TV plug-in game.

It is really upsetting that no B1G1 is forthcoming as my store now has 3 copies of Mario Sluggers and 2 copies of Wii Music. I may get them both here soon but I was really hoping to get the pair for $10.

Blockbuster's inventory is as poor as K-Mart. It just surprises me...I'd never go into a Blockbuster to buy a DVD player or Blu-Ray player...Especially at their prices.

Does anybody have a list of the games that Blockbuster sells for $9.99? $9.99 or less is like my impulse buy amount. If it's over $9.99, I have to really think about if I'm going to play the game or not, or use it as trade bait or whatever. But if it's a decent game for $9.99 or less, very hard for me to pass up. These are some that I know are $9.99:

Wii

Da Blob - $9.99

360

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - $9.99
Mass Effect - $9.99
Dead Space - $9.99

PS3

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - $9.99
Far Cry 2 - $9.99

I tried to buy Far Cry 2 for the Xbox 360, but it was $14.99. That's still a pretty good price, but I'd rather wait for a B1G1 all games $14.99 and under deal to pop up. Has anybody been able to buy Far Cry 2 for the Xbox 360 for $9.99 ? The weird thing is, at a Blockbuster right by my house, they had Far Cry 2 for 360, and I took it up to the register to have the lady check the price. She said it was $9.99. So I said I'll take it. But when she was ringing me up, it was $14.99. I ended up passing on it, but it was weird how at first it rang up at $9.99.

The PS3 version seems to be $9.99.

Are there any other pretty good games for $9.99 or less?

Yeah, I saw the star wars force unleashed disc only and it rang up 19.99. So are prices diferent dependending on location?
First Post. ***Show Spoilers***
That's a good starting point but way back when there was the rumor of a B1G1 for Thanksgiving I had asked people to post new updates so I could make changes there. I didn't get much response. Still, the list is a good place to start - at the very least, nothing should be more expensive than what's listed there. Many things may be cheaper though. The confusing part about updating is that a lot of people have been reporting POG prices and I don't want to taint the main list with those.
Yeah, I saw the star wars force unleashed disc only and it rang up 19.99. So are prices diferent dependending on location?
No, not really. But there are a lot of reasons why games appear to be different prices. For example, on Star Wars Force Unleashed are you sure they didn't scan the game code and quote you the new price? Some clerks won't know to scan the little BBV bar code strip for the used pricing - or maybe it was missing or perhaps this was just a misplaced rental case. There are lots of possible reasons.

But in general the pricing is the same at all corporate BBV locations. The key thing being corporate stores. If your store is a franchise location all pricing mentioned here is out the window.

I don't know if its been mentioned or not, but I just got back from BB and the guy there said the Beatles Rock Band set was $89.99. I was going to buy one, but I remembered the set had RB 1 items. I would rather have the RB 2 wireless drums.
Shaws has Coke/Diet Coke/Sprite 4 for $10 for 3 days. $2.50 each but you need to buy 4.
Wow, I've never heard of that place. Still, BBV is better (for me) at $3 per 12-pack and no 60 cent deposit (makes it the equivalent of $2.40 per 12-pack at a regular store).

BB as in Blockbuster? I didn't know any stores got the game (except for preorders) and especially the bundles as they came out after they stopped carrying new games. I assume you are talking about the "Value" bundle then. Yeah, that's not the greatest deal if so.

Scanning either the upc or bbv sticker will bring up the same page, so the clerk either read it wrong(as io stated, new price stated maybe), it has an incorrect sticker on it, or pricing differences with franchise possibly. I don't have any experience with franchise stores. I've had a copy of the game on 360 on hold for over a month, it's been 9.99 the whole time. Extra 10% off starting...today I think, so I can finally buy it. Yay for employee appreciation, though I'd prefer not to be beaten with a stick over sales as my reward.

Sorry about the confusion. I just put BB because its in the Blockbuster thread, but yeah its blockbuster. Anyways it is the special value edition. The store just got 4 of them in today.

Interesting that they are getting in new game stock - especially bundles. This is not a GR store?

How are you supposed to tell if it is a Gamerush store? There are 2 blockbusters in town, the other one mentions something about Gamerush on the outside, but they both look the same inside. I do know that it is a corporate store though.

Bbv is having a friends and family weekend dec 11-14. POG's will be 30% off. This is supposed to be word of mouth only and ur supposed to have a flier that you received from a friend or family to take advantage of this deal. U could probably get away with saying u lost the flier but this will be a ymmv. Game accessories will be 20% and new games 10%. There will also be 5 for $20 prp's for any movies $9.99 and under. I'm putting together a list of $9.99 and $14.99 pog's. It should be up soon. Remember u received this from a "friend" and you didn't see this posted anywhere.

Well, yeah, that's a good indication ;). But, basically, if they have more than a handful of new games for sale they are probably a GR since most regular stores got rid of all their new game stock last spring. And all GR stores are corporate.

Wait, does this mean they will be sending out POGs to all stores then? Or is this just for the dregs of these last phantom shipments? I have yet to see any in my area from the last batch. And I never heard of $14.99 POGs. I'm not sure there are many titles I'd get at that price unless they were brand new releases, which are unlikely to have made it to POG status yet.
^^ Do you mean 30% off ALL used (Previously Owned) games, not just the generic POGs?
Oh that would be interesting...I assume hawaiiboy meant POGs as in the clear case games, but I'd definitely pick some things up if all used titles were 30% off.
Oh that would be interesting...I assume hawaiiboy meant POGs as in the clear case games, but I'd definitely pick some things up if all used titles were 30% off.
D'oh! I assumed the same thing since POG to most of us BBV thread people means the clear-case disc-only stuff. If it is all used games, there is a Mario Sluggers and Wii Music with my name on them ;).

no, POG is any used game. pre-pack is the generic clear case games. so the sale is 30% off all POG games or pre-packs. so to sum it up ALL used games will be 30%.

But, as hawaiiboy said, this is a friends and family thing so not really open to most customers, right? I assume it requires a coupon/bar code or are they just gonna ring up 30% off?

And we've taken to calling the prepacks POGs around here - that's just the way it is ;).
