What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

BBV to Amazon? I've never bought a complete game at BBV in all my years of shopping with them.

Oh yea, my store has lots of em. Got 2 complete Bayonettas the last time there was a b1g1. Pretty good shape too

Hey BmBoWnZ, I agree with you when it comes to sharing. Lets all put in a little effort and benefit. That used to be the spirit of this site anyway. I understand people worrying about lurkers but PM's are great for avoiding that sort of thing. I'll start making a list of possible BBV-> GS flips and then maybe we can swap.
I'm a member of a flipping group in one of the private forums here on CAG, if you are a seasoned CAG (and your location doesn't clash with a current members) and are interested in joining PM friendofsonic or myself and I will forward him your information.

On a side note, I stopped by 2 close by Blockbusters and they had tons of games that are backlog worthy (darksiders, Bioshock 2) but not many flippable ones.
Not that I want to flip some games, but I can't believe the douchebag who does not want to "share his research." We all share the threads that get posted up don't we? I doubt dadumass would even know about this if it weren't for the OP and hawaiiboy letting everyone know.

dunno if anyone has thought of this but if you are going to be buying used copies of front mission to trade in, wouldn't it be best to buy 3 copies and then go back on friday and adjust your gamestop receipt so you get one free. this way you maximize your profit.

hawaiiboy situation is a little different, that is why he is such a valued CAG member. He has nothing to loose and virtually has no competition in Hawaii. Others on this site is a little more protective because of there locations near a metro area.

If a gamestop had 3 used copies yes, around my area and guessing alot of others, there is like only 1 used copy in store.

just did some searching for some BBV to Gamestop flips and only found a few notable titles granted the price on the CAG tracker is correct...I may buy a couple games to actually play though, although my backlog is getting pretty steep...

 You spend the time next time looking up EVERY TIV from Amazon for games on the list and possibly other venues for trades and then let's see if you wanna just give away all that info to EVERYONE. I already locked in my trades for Amazon, even though my search of my local BBV stores today has proven that none of the ones I want to buy are available.

So chances are I won't be picking up ANYTHING from this sale, save for maybe picking up Bayonetta again for PS3, since I never finished it last time.

Since when does GS price adjust prior purchases? They looked at me like I was from Mars when I asked that the one time back before I joined CAG.
Anyways, if I can get my car back then I'll flip to GS with the trade 6 get 40% + 10% for PU.
Was this confirmed to be extended? It says ends 12/5 on the website and no upcoming promos yet on the GS TIV OP.

I personally have pretty much stopped shopping at GS after seeing how they worked from the inside (As an Ex-Employee).

And lol at the Price Adjusting at gamestop comment, i remember buying some new game there once, less than 3 weeks later it dropped by like 20 dollars, went back to see if i could get it matched, and practically got cussed out by an employee.

They do it as long as its not past 7 days. Just tell them you heard there was going to be a B2G1 free and you want to know if you can get 3 games now and then price adjust it friday because you want to make sure you get the games you want now. They should say yes. I have not had a problem.

iatcg, not sure if you understood his point but it makes sense as that's what i did. there were 2 used copies at 1 store and another store had 1 so i bought all 3 and on friday(within 7 days) i will return and rebuy to get 1 free. i've done this numerous times without any problem as they have a 7 day no questions asked return policy.

Don't you need to have the games physically to do a return and rebuy? If you trade them in on Tuesday, will having only a receipt on Friday be any good to you?

Hey hawaiiboy, this may have been asked on the old thread, so sorry if it's a dupe. If I were to see some games tomorrow and wanted to buy them before the sale, does Blockbuster usually frown upon returning them, then rebuying them at the sale price? The employee said she'd hold them for me until Tuesday, but I don't know how safe that is and only one store in my area had one of the games I wanted.
Kinda sad. I want to just pick up some games to play, but i bet some flipper will be me to it.
Get there early then, not EVERYONE is a flipper, im more or less looking for games to add to my collection, though if i see something that can net me atleast 5$ more than what i pay, i damn sure aint gonna pass it up.

And its a pretty good JRPG/MMO styled game. The story kinda sucked, but the online mode is fun as hell. Plus, you cant start WKC2 until you beat 1, so why force yourself to blaze through the fail of a story mode in a day or two when you can have months to do it.
what's so good bout wkc? isnt it supposed to be including free with wkc2 when it comes to the states? just wonderin
Same. Where is the value so good on WKC?

Its a game you have to play to have fun with. As said earlier the story is kind of a drag but online is crazy fun.

The employee said she'd hold them for me until Tuesday, but I don't know how safe that is and only one store in my area had one of the games I wanted.
Generally, you cannot return used games at BBV, unless the disc is defective. Someone may occasionally make an exception, but that is the policy.
When did people on this site become so protectionist of their info? It used to be people shared, especially on this thread. It's ironic to say do your own research when ones original research was done through using the "research" of countless hours of OP's time on this and other threads, plus thousands of data points shared by users.
I agree simply because it's pretty unlikely that somebody here is going to be going to his BBV, but then again who knows.

It turned more into a greed factor. Instead of having another person getting a copy i'll take theirs and sell it to them for a higher price or i can take it and flip it for something better.
hawaiiboy situation is a little different, that is why he is such a valued CAG member. He has nothing to loose and virtually has no competition in Hawaii. Others on this site is a little more protective because of there locations near a metro area.
He wrote some time ago, he is not in HI but still has nothing to loose at his store...

Soo get two copies and make a little under 10 bucks. Not bad

iatcg, not sure if you understood his point but it makes sense as that's what i did. there were 2 used copies at 1 store and another store had 1 so i bought all 3 and on friday(within 7 days) i will return and rebuy to get 1 free. i've done this numerous times without any problem as they have a 7 day no questions asked return policy.
I've done that myself before, but what I was confused about was that it seemed like people were saying you could get a price adjustment or come back to either GS or BBV and try to return/rebuy under the new sale.

I have NEVER seen any GS/BBV stores by me offer to do this AT ALL, especially the price adjustment thing. Now sealed/new games like from clearance at Sears/Kmart/TRU/Target perhaps, but used games from GS/BBV never.

Correct.;) Another one to look for is one that WAS readily available before the buyout of stock a while ago from the liquidator(s): Toy Story Mania

It's getting about $18 at Amazon.;) Pay $15 for two copies, make $36.:D:applause:

Like I said earlier, I've done my flipping homework. These were two I was considering.

Hawaii Boy, I just saw Killzone 2, God of War 3, God of War Collection, and Infamous are all at $19.99. Are they going to drop below 14.99?

You are basically doing a return and rebuy in order to get the 3rd game free. I just got back from buying 2 copies of the xbox and 1 of the ps3 and am taking them in to bbv in a few minutes. i'll feel like a royal dumbass if i wait until tomorrow and the TIV sinks.

Well I built up some credit today in preparation for the sale. I forgot all about the B2G1 sale, so I used my first Powerup reward, a $10 off cert. So 3 copies of FME (at 3 different stores) cost me about $42 and got me $66 at BBV.

What's BBV's policy on accepting multiples? I could not remember and am now wondering if I went to 3 different stores for nothing.

That makes more sense, but Gamestop isn't doing a B2G1 right now that I know of, unless you used the B2G1 coupon from your PowerUp Rewards account.

I should really head out in a bit as well to at least dump off the XBox version to BBV, since I'll likely pick up the copies of WKC that I saw at one of my local stores as part of the BOGO on Tuesday morning. I figure for $7.50 in credit I'll give one copy a whirl and send the other one to Amazon to add to my credit there.:applause:

The ones around here typically took one copy per platform(1 360, 1 PS3 or 2 total), but you could repeat that at every store in the district and just have them put the credit on a gift card for you so you weren't locked to using it at just one store.;)

That's what I assumed the policy was & what I did. Thanks for the reassurance though.

Oh shit, an old-fashioned BBV B1G1...let the madness begin. Sucks that I've lost two of my closer stores in the last year, though. Still excited to start re-buildiing my credit for next year.
:whee:
