What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Anyone know if Just Cause 2 is $14.99 and under? I saw it at my local store during a scouting run, but didn't bother having them check the price. If no one reports back, I will check tomorrow.

Not bad at all, found damn near every game i wanted in abundance here. Gonna wake up at 8 AM and grab my loot ^_^. Nice manager who remembered me shopping there before even offered to hold thier last copy of WKC for me.
My stores don't open until 10. :(
Wierd, maybe its a holiday thing, or the employee didnt know what they were talking about. But he sure told me 8

Having just scoped out a BBV in my area, there are lots of copies of Bioshock 2 to go around. It was priced at $15. Splinter Cell was only $10. Prince of Persia was there too as well as quite a few other titles. I'm just hoping there are leftovers after I'm done with work at 4:00. *fingers crossed*

Well, I may not be able to get out tomorrow at all not because of lack of car(even if I had it I probably wouldn't go out) due to the 9+ inches of snow we have at the moment.

And it's supposed to continue for 2 more days!

I've never participated in one of these sales before. Do I have to inform the employees when I go up to the counter about the sale, or is it something they'll already know about (i.e. signs up, etc)?

even though u are an angels fan i will answer your question. most do not have a clue with the sale. sometimes they may have signs up but usually from experience, they go up couple of days after they started. all u have to do is go up to the counter with two games that are 14.99 or less (if u want 2 14.99 games and 2 9.99 games, group them together) and after they hit total it will automatically take off one of the games.
I forgot holiday hours, what times are your local stores open?
I just check the store near me open at 10 a.m. There are no holiday hours, they work on regular schedule.

Just passed by my store and the thing is stocked up to the teeth with everything. Like 15 Bioshock 2, Bayonettas, WKCs, and several others. Just hope the damm employees don't know about the sell or they will scoop them all up before I get off work. I have an early day tomorrow. Hopefully they will leave some for me.
This is gonna be my first attempt at using them. I'm trading in four of the FME's(2:360:, 2:ps3:) to them for $31.75 a copy when I only paid $21.19 a copy and it's a trade for CASH.

I'm also trading in my copy of :ps3:Enslaved to them for $25.25, which is $.25 more than I paid from Amazon 3 weeks ago for it. But since SS doesn't pay for shipping and only gives a shipping credit if you're sending in 4-5 items and even then it's only a $2.27(media rate) credit I'm losing a bit. But in the end I'm cashing out $80 in Best Buy credit for $127($129.27 if they give me the shipping credit)in CASH for the four FME's alone, so I'm happy as hell to send them the games.

I just have to double and triple check my email to make sure they didn't cancel or edit the trade order before I even bother to crack these open.

Before I forget, I saw another game to add to the :ds: list when I checked my closest store yesterday, IO.

You can add :ds: Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 to the list. It was marked $14.99 at my store, though I'm sure you may want to wait for some verification from another person before just adding it.
I can confirm Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 DS is 14.99. Dante's Inferno (x360 only as far as I could tell) is also $14.99.
I never knew they sold PC games at BBV!?!!?!?!?`
I remember they sold them back in the 90's.

Yeah as far as I know, no holiday hours at BBV. 10am start time here as well.
I just check the store near me open at 10 a.m. There are no holiday hours, they work on regular schedule.

what would you do with bioshock2 and bayonettas? just wondering.
i mean... other than playing them...
Only other option would be to sell it or trade it in.

Is this sale only on the special packaged games only? or is it on all of the used games under 14.99 that they have in store? As I recall, they usually ship a special set of games in pre packaged cases without manuals or covers that they use for the sales.

No to all your questions...

No, you don't have to inform them (it is automatic).
No, they probably won't know about it.
No, there probably won't be signs.

The clear case prepacks have never been used for special sales as far as I know. They are just at a fixed price so it may seem that way - the same game as a regular use game will probably cost more so the prepacks may appear to be a "sale". But I don't consider that to be a special sale - it is just stock being sold at a certain price. I.e., the prepacks are not just sold at $9.99 or $6.99 for a limited time (like a sale) - they are always that price.

As for the B1G1, it applies to all used games inlcuding both regular stock and the prepacks.

As for the holiday hours thing, I just called 2 local stores and they both said they open at 10. Good thing too, cuz I don't wanna wake up any earlier.

I stopped in the local BBV, and they were very helpful, which was a bit of a shock. A guy sought me out to tell me that tomorrow there would be a B1G1, and they had separate all the games that qualified for the sale. Unfortunately they don't have the game I was really looking for, and while there were some games I was interested in, they'd just end up in the backlog, so I'm thinking unless I find the time to put together a flipping list, I'm going to pass on this sale. There's no other BBVs near by for me to check any more. :(

They FINALLY got a Dirt 2 in (just one) and still have a few Bioshock 2's. Forgot to look for Bayenetta but they did have a Bad Company 2 for 19, maybe that'll drop? I'll be heading over there ASAP in the AM to check. Besides some flips at the last second I'm in for Dirt 2 and Bioshock 2 for sure.

Sorry if this has been asked, but do you just buy an even number of games and it discounts all the cheapest ones? Or do you have to do separate transactions for each 2?

Separate transactions. $14.99 games in one transaction and $9.99 games separately.

Sorry if this has been asked, but do you just buy an even number of games and it discounts all the cheapest ones? Or do you have to do separate transactions for each 2?
To be clear, it can be done in a single transaction if the employee simply totals it after each matched-price pair, but in practice a lot of employees will not know to do this and may be confused/suspicious if you suggest it. So pretty much easier just to separate the transactions.

Exactly !!

Yep, and invariably, someone will run into a manager that insists they all be rung up at once with just the cheapest ones being free. Don't let them get away with that.

Yes just buy all your 14.99 ones first, then say "Wow this is a great deal, think I'll go look for some more", and then you bring more games up the counter, all of which happen to be 9.99.

That offer has been dead for quite a while unfortunately.

Edit: Beaten by seconds!

Dude, that's some scary shit, because that is exactly what I am getting tomorrow! Spooky...well, great minds do think alike!

WHAT?! Seriously? I mean, this is great news but... I just picked up Metroid Other M today for 15$.

I live in Alaska so... I wonder if we're even having this deal up here.

Need Bad Co. 2 to drop to $14.99 for this sale! The last time I went in one of my local BBV's they had a metric ass-ton of these ,all with VIP codes!

is Metroid Other M $15 at BBV?

Thanks for the replies about how to do the transactions... Unfortunately as of now I want a 9.99 and a 14.99 game. Hmm, I need to look over at the endcap a little more where they put the "top used games" and see if there's a Bayonetta. No way I'd pay full price for that, but for $7.50 I'd be in. I can easily find a game 9.99 or under even if I just flip it at Gamestop.
Are any of these games 14.99 or below;
Alpha Protocol
Borderlands
GTA Liberty City
Just Cause 2
POP Forgotten Sands
Singularity
Splinter Cell Conviction
Super Street Fighter 4

Just curious cuz those are the games i really want!
I'm starting to wonder if Borderlands is still $19.99. I saw it marked $19.99 at a store today, but they had many games with old prices on them, so I can't be sure. Does anyone know for sure?

If not, I'll post tomorrow night after I get it price checked.

Just came back not to long ago from BB they had the signs up for the sale ready to go as if they started i could have picked up some games early if i wanted to still can but ill wait bc the prices were wrong but i guess that's bc of lazy employees WKC and crackdown and lost planet 2 were all 19$ when i thought they were supposed to be 14 according to the OP

They were probably tagged $19.99, but will ring up $14.99 in the system.

Swung by the closest store on the way home, they have the games already in bins so I was able to check the stock. Wii was pretty sparse (but a few maybes), there was a TON of Convictions and Bioshock 2s, and several Lost Planet 2s. I could practically give one to all my friends with a 360 for some multiplayer. I know HB says to have them check inventory at other stores, but I kind of enjoy the hunt :] And with only one school project left to do, I can spare some time for said hunt!
