Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

the ace of spades won the vote. I will give them credit for using the song in the trailer. However, once I saw jagex I thought runescape and lost what little interest I had in the game.

A cold chill runs down my spine whenever I read your name.

Really? I was convinced that Hotline Miami would win since it's so popular, and because I've heard some awful things about Ace of Spades.

Oh well, I guess that's what looking like Minecraft gets you :p

am i missing something? why the hell are people voting for that considering the crappy reviews especially next to hotline miami
You ain't played Starcraft? I bought it on launch and played for years!
Yeah, I'm not normally into strategy games.
But, if it's considered "Classic", "well-regarded", or is a "hot title" and it's cheap - yeah, I might buy it...
Still have my old homeworld beta CD someone in this collection I got. What a great game.
Sweet. :D

Just bought the DoW full pack. Is awesome to see ALL DoW games on the library! I love the 40k universe (Yes, Space Marine too). I don't know when I will replay the old ones, but is nice to have them, I don't think they wold be on this price again... soon.

The bad thing is I can't stop playing Legend of Grimrock. That game is a masterpiece, a work of art... a work of love. Yes, I know everybody is saying that... but I want to say that you cannot be convinced looking at gameplay videos. No. I watched some videos before and it seems repetitive... but once you play it... OMG... my only regret is not grabing it before. Memories of Lands of Lore, Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder... all these games are inside Grimrock... and I dare to say it improves the genre. Really LOVE it!!
Ace of Spades? I stayed up for this? Was hoping for either H:M or Primordia.
I'm starting to think that one of the following is true:

 1. Valve is rigging the voting system.
 2. A lot of the people who are voting are trolling.
 3. A lot of the people who are voting are stupid.
No idea what this is but I don't own the base game. And I thought I was fast enough for once. :)
oh sorry, DLC for darksiders 2 Mortis

Or they have different tastes than you? It's a brand new release on Steam that looks like Minecraft. I was fairly confident it would win the vote.

Hotline miami has constantly been on sale. And yes the look of minecraft prob got a lot of voters. I voted for it cause hm has been on sale soooo many time and i know even though it's gotten bad reviews people are still going to get it.
Thanks for that both of you; I really appreciate it. I'm glad to hear DoW1/2 is worth it for single player (reviews seemed to come down on single player a bit hard in a way I didn't trust the review). I think I'll take the chance of the DoW bundle and see if I like it.
I may sound biased, but I believe you can't go wrong with a game of the WH 40k universe. Once you get immersed, you want more... and remember there are WH 40k books :)

Thanks for the heads up on RS:V1 compatability issues. There's reports of a fix here on SPUF. I think I'll bite on RS:V2 maybe RS:V1. (They're $2.50 each atm)

If you can get it working (without crashing to desktop so often) Vegas 1 is a great game. That's what makes me mad about it: I REALLY want to play that game!
Have never bought games from GF before. I can download as many times as I want similar to Steam if I buy from them, right?
Hotline Miami uses Steamworks so you'll get a code to activate the game on Steam if you buy from Gamefly.

Also have to say WTF at the new vote. Deponia is already 66% off...

I voted for it because the trailer. MOTORHEAD!! |m|

That being said... wasn't interested on any of those... yet
If you don't care about the current vote, please vote for Deadlight.
done!
Hopefully no one votes for Deponia this time around. Same discount it already is.
It won't matter, Walking Dead pretty much wins by default.

I'm kind of confused by the Deponia discount in the Community Vote section - Isn't the game already 66% off?

EDIT: Shoite, I was beat a few times over on that one.
Wtf, Deponia is ALREADY 66% off? So what's the point of having it in the community choice?
Proof of rigged voting!

I'll give GRAW2 a chance at $2.50. I'm generally a bit leery of pre-2004 3D, which is why I haven't bit on the Thief or the first two hitman (though I have Contracts and Blood Money in my backlog). I picked up Dishonored yesterday on GG =)
You're welcome.

In general for Non-Steam games, if you have issues running OLDER games on newer (Windows) systems, you need to do a few things:
1. Create shortcut for your game (if there isn't one already).
2. Right click on Shortcut; left-click Properties; switch to Compatibility Tab.
2. Run it in Compatibility Mode for an OS the game was actually MADE to work on.
3. If on Win 7 or above, check the boxes for Disable Desktop Composition & Disable Visual Themes (turns off that Aero stuff that interferes often w/ OLDER games).
4. Check the box to "Run Game as Admin."

For Steam games, you don't get these options for your Shortcut when you toss it on your Desktop.
So, go into the actual game folder; find the EXE itself; right-click it to bring Menu up; Go to Step #2 above.
For some of the older games on Steam, you might need to turn OFF the Steam overlay off and/or Steam community for them to run right.
Some older Steam-games, you might need to also change its Game Properties and throw some Command Lines to get them going.

I voted for Deponia in the hope that it actually goes -75%.
For the most part, yes - most places, Hotline Miami requires Steamworks.

GOG is the ONLY digital distribution store-place where Hotline Miami does NOT use Steamworks, since GOG requires DRM-FREE products there.

getting annoyed how they only put up games they already gave big discounts for on previous steam sales for the flash sales, there just trying to get rid of all them codes trying to make that extra cash...i dont think steam hasnt even given out their own unique deal...smh
