Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

My main concern about Beast Boxing is that storyline. A secret human boxer? I'm just saying, you would think the beasts would notice. Unless... It's actually a critique upon humanity, and in the end, we too, are just another beast. Just fighting to get to the top and beat the grand champion of the Ultra League.
So worth it.
Had a lot of fun, when Amazon DVG had it around that cheap, years back.
The user metacritic scores were not kind though. Seems like the users disliked it way more than the critics which is usually a red flag for me.

Is there some particular issue with it?

ETA: Oh man, reading through those user Metacritic scores there's a whole mess of them that ripped this game a new one 8 ways to Sunday.

Hey, does anybody with TDU2 experience know whether your profile information is stored locally or online? I'm thinking about picking up a Steam copy but I already have it through D2D (paid $10!!)--I'd like to be able to transfer my progress but I'm not sure whether that would work. Anybody have any ideas on this?

For those asking about the quality, I thought it was pretty good but another game where you really need a controller to do well.

I hope these shift code posts aren't getting annoying.
Not worth it in the slightest. Just join someone's game that owns it and you can play it, including being able to trigger the quests and get exp and rewards.

I didn't know that! That's really cool, thanks a lot :applause:
I don't suppose anyone here actually pre-ordered BL2 from Gamestop?

The TDU2 launch was an unmitigated disaster with no one getting their retailer specific preorder bonuses, the casino and clubs being broken for the first couple of weeks, and a good amount of bugs. After a month or two, I stopped waiting for the panacea patch and moved on to other games. The locale was great, at the very least.

I didn't play it on launch or close to it b/c of the reviews - they were BRUTAL, for the most part.
Namely, the game got slammed for lacking features; Internet connection problems; bugs; broken quests and races; crazy physics for racing (especially when compared by many to TDU1); tough difficulty (especially when doing the License getting missions to start the game) [the tough difficulty on License getting races is still present, BTW]; coming w/ Securom Internet DRM activation; and other kinds of madness.

A lot of this got overhauled in numerous patches (like many of Eden's other games), before the DLC actually got released.
Eden Games has been known for releasing buggy/broken products [see Alone in the Dark (2008 Reboot)].

For $5, it'd be silly to pass this up. Last time I played it, I had a BLAST w/ it online. I really didn't deal w/ other online players much (since many were online and many were just doing the solo races and that stuff).
I just did the "solo" missions, races, and whatnot - for the most part.

It can be tough to get a MP race going, anyways - if anybody's actually even online playing this! Especially now, since the game's OLD.

If you have problems trying to connect online or dealing w/ online hackers/cheaters - just create another profile and put that profile in offline mode.
Playing offline, you'd just miss out on online players all over the game-world(s); and unable to do custom MP-based competitive races.
On the map, you'll find spots that are either SP-based (that's most spots) or are MP-based (which are lobbies, more or less). When offline, you can't do the MP stuff; only SP. When online, you can do both types of missions - up to you.
What the game probably should've did was let the MP spots on the map always be accessible and easy for Friends to contact each other and Quick-Travel to those spots to get a race going.

I do not know if TDU2 Steam-version comes w/ Securom DRM anymore, but if I was you - especially if that could be a factor for you and all (should be, I hate 3rd party DRM on Steam-versions) - you might want to look into it and check the Steam forums to see if it comes w/ it still.
Hopefully, they removed it. I don't know truly, though. No clue.
It's definitely worth looking into and asking around to those who actually bought it from Steam today.

EDIT:
I'm gonna check to see if online servers for game-playing are up. I'm gonna play this thing, if it is.

EDIT 2:
Yup, there's people playing, here & there - wonder if it's 'cause of the sales.
I'm on the Hawaii map here (you have to level-up enough to unlock this);
I wonder how things are in Ibiza (the starting map).

EDIT 3:
IMHO, this G4TV review (for X360 version) is spot on:
http://www.g4tv.com/games/xbox-360/63333/test-drive-unlimited-2/review/

FTW or DNF?

Assigning a score to Test Drive Unlimited 2 was extremely difficult. The actual driving experience itself—the very thing that the entire game is based around—still feels stuck in second gear compared to refined racers like Gran Turismo 5, Forza Motorsport 5 and anything that Criterion touches. The UI is a burden to navigate, minor glitches plague the whole experience, and the cringe-worthy character animation and dialogue sabotage the cool that the rest of the game works so hard to establish.

But there’s simply nothing else like TDU2 out there. Or, rather, there are several games that capture aspects of TDU2—Burnout Paradise’s free-wheeling open rides through island environments, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit’s cops-and-robbers chases, Gran Turismo 5’s endless collect-a-thon—but nothing puts them together into one overly ambitious package the way TDU2 does. It might not be the best racing game out there, but by god, it’s the biggest.

And because TDU2 isn’t a sim-heavy gearhead tunefest, it’s much more likely to attract that more casual following that it will need to really maximize its stellar social aspects. Hardcore racing enthusiasts will gripe about the floaty handling that makes even the most precision-engineered supercar feel like a Chevy Impala. But those who just want to pick up and play a racing game will delight in the flash and spectacle of the cars and environments, not to mention the absurd cartwheels that accompany even the most minor crashes.

For all of TDU2’s faults, none of them are severe enough to ruin the experience. And for all of its hokey weirdness, there’s a strange charm about it that will keep you coming back for more. It’s a game you’ll want to like, and if you can approach it on its own terms and enjoy it for what it is, you won’t find that hard to do.

I'm assuming it's the same problem people with the Ravaged Beta had. If Ravaged gets installed in some full form and then you lose your rights it reverts to the Demo version, but stays in your steam library indefinitely and has the label of the real game.

You have to ask steam support to remove it for you.

Oahu, which is one of the game-world maps in TDU1's map (Hawaii).

Seriously this game is RIDICULOUSLY HUGE, in sheer size. You have Ibiza and Oahu in TDU2 - which are BOTH HUGE themselves. Hell, Ibiza itself is huge; nevermind not even getting to Oahu!

If you actually do like it, you'll keep coming back for more - b/c this game has just SO MUCH TO DO. It's a racing & driving MMO, more or less. It can be quite addicting.

Sure - the racing, physics, and handling are nowhere as great as many of its competitors (Burnout series and NFS series); but the game just does so much. It's hard to ignore how much this game has going on - and that it does it well, too.

The game has a steep learning curve and a half. This is what might really turn people off; especially when trying to get your License for whatever style car you want to drive, in the very beginning. You have to do this, before you can really do any race competitions. Especially early on, cars handle like garbage; especially low-level stuff. They don't handle well, until you get better cars and/or win some races, do some missions, or explore the game-world; up to you how you want to play this out. Not until you get better cars and equipment - you might not want to play super-aggressive on turns, speeding, sliding, & shifting until you get MUCH better cars - or you might as well just basically restart your race or mission.

EDIT:
Here's another fair review for TDU2 (for X360) - from Kevin Van Ord (who was filling in for Jane Douglas):

LOL!

Don't drive too aggressive in TDU2 early on. Its physics and handling is nowhere as good as most other racers (i.e. NFS series and Burnout series). It's also a much harder game than many of the others, as well.

Since you really do live in Hawaii - I guess you got an unfair advantage, when you unlock the huge Oahu map. :p

The best part about Rogue Warrior is that it's over in 2 hours or so, so you feel about as dirty as watching a bad movie. I say go through the whole game only meleeing people to see the ridiculous kill scenes.

Worst part about the achievements is that the 3 difficulty modes are tracked separately.

I played through on hard and would have to play through the campaign two more times to get the campaign achievements.

Also, lots of multiplayer achievements with what I assume is no active community.

Yes, which is why I played through the game on hard thinking "hey, if this catches on ironically as a multiplayer game of choice for a few weeks maybe I can mop these multiplayer achievements up, so maybe I should just get hard out of the way now so I don't have to play through a full campaign later! That's the ticket! You're brilliant! What a stunning specimen you are, with your great ideas about saving time in an attempt to s-rank one of the shoddiest high profile FPS releases in the last five years! If you aren't careful somebody is gonna sneak in in the night and open up your head and take that brain right out of you, because you should be off doing some seriously important shit with that thinker of a mind, I tell you what!" but alas, only one achievement for beating it on hard rather than all three.

My inner-monologue may or may not be that rambling and confidently self-loathing.

We'll see what its reaction is when I boot up the Rogue Warrior campaign for the 3rd time.

I've played 35 minutes of Rogue Warrior, which was 2 missions. Tons of screen tearing, and headache inducing graphical glitches, but I can't wait to play more.

Sorry. Busy day. This is actually one that I don't own. I passed on it several times before due to the scathing reviews (and many mentions of wonky physics/handing). MysterD sold me on in it in August, but It hasn't hit $5 again until now. (It tends to hit $5, but it evaded the Xmas sales.)

Thanks for that! I'm back to looking forward to it. Need to figure if I should snag it off Steam (convenience, maybe no securom) or Amazon ("warranty" coverage on activations).

Edit: Steam version has SecuROM 4 activation limit as well according to multiple TDU2-SPUF threads as well as this. Oh yeah, and the TDU2 page.

Edit2: Steam version has achieves. (I always like to look at achieve statistics.)

Edit3: Snagging this of Amazon for their "unlimited activations" policy. I have a habit of re-playing my old racers.

Anyone else found they suddenly have xx copies of DOTA2 in their steam inventory??... are these game clients or spectator versions?. (i have tried out both already - not really my thing)

While we're on the topic of TDU2, to be completely honest I kind of liked it, sure it may not have the most accurate handling in the world, but like MysterD was saying there is SO MUCH TO DO in this game. It really is like a driving MMO, you can buy lots of cars, participate in races, buy clothes for your avatar, buy houses, etc. Sometimes it's enjoyable enough driving around taking in the scenery. It may not be the best driving game out there but it sure as hell is worth $5, actually contemplating rebuying it on steam (bought it first on Amazon) for convenience. (and 'chieves. can't forget those 'chieves!)

On another, DON'T try to play this with KB+M. I'm betting some of the handling issues are from people who only played with KB+M. I started out with KB+M and didn't really like the game. Once I switched to my xbox controller it made a night and day difference.
