Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Regarding the Steam Trading Cards, I think many are forgetting that, despite nearly everyone who wanted to be being in by now, it's still in beta. It makes sense that they're trying this with only a few games to start with.

Imagine a point where most new games have cards and older games in the library are steadily updated to have them; where every time you play something on Steam, you're likely to get half a set of cards. You end up having 20 cards across different games that you don't care for but decide to cash them in to collect the set for Sanctum or Poker Night or (gasp!) Coconut Queen, just because these happen to be the games that mean the most to you and you want to wear that badge proudly. If it gets to the point where you really, REALLY can't be expected to collect every card in existence, I think it could end up being kind of fun.

But until that day, I'm going to keep selling my idle-gains in preparation for the next big sale.

So, yeah, I just signed up for a new Steam account so I can keep my username unified across everything. I can always use that other account if I feel like playing Portal 2 .

So I have Penny Arcade whatever-it's-called 3 right now.

On a completely unrelated note, does anyone have any recommendations for cheap PCs to satisfy the majority of PC/Steam gaming? I don't want to go full Cheapy/Shipwreck and have a gaming rig built - just something cheap off the shelf that doesn't need to push the high-end games. My son has been bugging me for a PC for ages. I had no idea you could partition and dual-boot an iMac like that. It works (my son is playing Planetside 2 right now) but that computer is from 2009 so it is not so great even for some of the older PC titles.

As for the OP and having it be updated - yeah, it would be great to put sales of note (dates included) in the title so it can be seen by more than just regulars. And having it be a Wiki is nice but presents its own problems. Unless someone really takes ownership of it and commits to keeping it updated, it just isn't going to happen. The notion of a Wiki never really works as then no one feels like they "own" the thread and thus wants to put a lot of work into it (not saying anything particular about this thread but that's what I've seen across CAG). I don't want to do it and obviously I can't compel anyone else to, but if someone chose to do such a thing, it would be greatly appreciated by the community ;).
I'm going to bring this up again, but updating the OP is completely pointless without someone dedicated to updating the TITLE when there are good sales. And PMing Eastx every time is not a solution. How long have we had this soda wars crap in the title?

People don't bother checking the OP because of it. This just seems like a general OT thread than a real sales thread.

I would really love for someone else to be OP to fix this because when you actually have the ability to put something like "Terraria $3.39 Weekend Sale (ends 05/18/13)" in the title then you will actually have people clicking through and using the links in the OP, otherwise it's just wasted effort.

I really don't get why someone insists on being the OP on something when they don't even bother to regularly update the title.
Yeah, tons of people said this, and EastX totally disregarded all of it and made the next topic anyways.

I have nothing against EastX, and I honestly don't think anyone here does, but he's just not super active here.

louiedog should be the OP for the next topic.

The folks in this thread can be incredibly helpful and patient.
obviously a few like io do, but I've just gotten used to clicking the specials tab and checking the latest page here. IMO it's way more trouble than it's worth.
Well, it is now up to date again.

Honestly I don't even see the point of updating. This is the internet age. Takes about a second to load up a web page and I'd assume everyone who regularly checks CAG would also open up the Steam store page, too.

The OP isn't really for us.

Couldn't someone just start a new thread? I mean, this one is 112 pages already -- do we need to wait for a forum breaking thread length before moving on?

I mean it. For all I know there's some moderator law about starting a new thread.

Actually, I read this thread but rarely go to Steam's main page. Because there's rarely anything there that I care about and at least this thread has some banter. I just assume I'll hear of anything noteworthy here and it's not as though Steam sales are time sensitive where I need to be first to buy something the second the sales flip.

I've wondered this myself every time the subject comes up. It doesn't bother me personally that the thread title aren't updated. But if it bothers other people, then maybe they should just make a new thread.

Nothing against Eastx, but I don't understand why he has to be the one creating the threads each time.
So....who's gonna make the new thread?
I nominate anyone with no life, excluding myself ;)

Just kidding, I'd do it if no one else wants to.

"Not me," said the Cat
"Not me," said the Pig
"Not me," said the Duck.

"Well," said the Red Hen, "I will have to grind the wheat myself..."

This shouldn't be taken as me starting the new thread, cause I ain't gonna.

279 pages on the default posts-per-page setting.

I would nominate AshesKitty, but we might have nothing but racing & driving references for sub-titles for the thread. ;)

I'm fine updating the title. Maybe we could split the week up for updating the OP (maybe a silly idea, but I'd be fine doing sunday's sales, since I've nothing ever to do on them anyways). If someone wants to man up and do it all by their self though, by all means, please go right ahead;)
The OP isn't really for us.
I meant anyone who visits CAG on a regular basis. But I guess there are some people that absolutely make this THE center point of their deal shopping and don't bother to check the major online game retailers/DD storefronts. Seems odd to me.

Sold some cards. So awesome. I mean it's totally free money. Kinda cool. Thats like 30% off Rising Storm for doing absolutely nothing.

Looks like I'm good for TF2 too, since I bought it originally.

Anyone wowed by anything over at Amazon.com mayhem? Cursory glance and I didn't see anything. Waiting on bioshock.
The OP isn't really for us.
Yeah, the OP and title are really for the non-regs who are actually impressed by some of these deals. And I don't mean that sarcastically, because every now and then when you see someone start a new thread for a Steam deal it gets attention from names I never recognized.

I'm the same way, not that I don't bother checking places like GG, GMG, Gamefly, etc. but I know the deals will find their way to CAG eventually so it's just much more convenient and that is the purpose of this site.

I'm fine with anyone starting it. The commitment isn't big at all. The title really only needs to be updated on Tuesdays and Thursdays since the dailies are rarely that impressive.

You know, I would think the same, but new deals get quickly buried within the thread and lots of people who aren't regulars in this thread just like to glance at the forum topic titles to see if anything jumps at them from the title.

The Amazon thread is nearing 600 pages and hasn't broken the forum yet, a measly 112 is nothing actually. I think during the height of the winter sale we were cranking out 10-20 pages a day.
