Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

But satisfying for me, because it's what I guessed it would be and I didn't buy the bundle. ;)
So just noticed that there was two coupons in my inventory. Anyone want 50% off Duke Nukem 3d? Or 75% off Total War Shogun 2? I will give them to you just let me know

*Edit*
Showgun 2 Coupon is gone!
I have three of the "75% off Shogun 2" coupons in my inventory. PM me if you'd like to use one.

Also, if you haven't played GeoGuessr yet... well, it's the biggest game on Planet Earth. Free, too. Basically, it gives you a picture from Google Street View, and you have to move around and figure out where in the world you are. My first game last night took me to South Africa, Norway, New Zealand, Mexico, and the US.
Be Mine 8 is up and it is good:

Excellent! Fairy Bloom Fresia was on my wishlist.

And it looks like the first bonus was unlocked between my purchasing (was at 99%) and my getting to my downloads page. I'm going to go ahead and claim credit.

I played this with my girlfriend the other day. We used to live in San Francisco and one of our pics was taken from the visitor center parking lot on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. I think it said we were off by .001 km, which is about 4 feet.

My best game included one where there were no signs or anything, but I thought, "You know, that looks like Vancouver Island," and sure enough we put down the marker about 1/2 a KM away. Neither of us have ever been there. It's a fun game that has made me want to travel to several places that we saw.
Daily Deal:
Proteus (50% Off) $4.99
By all rights, I should look upon that as possibly the most boring "game" ever made. Yet after watching the vids on the steam store page, I find it strangely compelling.

*adds Proteus to wishlist*

Does anyone know if you get the extras if you bought a gift link early and below the average? I got an extra gift link that is not claimed.
Humble Bundle added all the prototypes from amnesia fortnight to the current Humble Bundle, so it looks like we won't be getting The Cave or Iron Brigade.
Blah! Can't say I'm not surprised though.

STEAM OR GTFO

Also, every spot on earth apparently looks like Paraguay. Deciduous trees along a dirt road? Paraguay. Scrub desert? Paraguay. Conifers on a snowy mountain? Paraguay.
Has anyone played this? Bundle material?
I like it. It's Qix with dragons. It's been bundled a couple of times already so there may be cheap keys out there.

Thanks. I must have passed on those bundles because I don't have it yet. It looks like the first game is 99 cents.
It was in IG 2.
And my first IG was #3. I missed out by not being an early adopter of the indie bundle craze.

LOL >.<

I've been devaluing indie games since the original Humble Bundle... I skipped many of the earlier IGs (before I decided to get sloshed join Happy Hour).. but I did get IG 2.

Ha! Without Fox and HH I wouldn't own nearly as many IGs. I seem to be missing #4 but have most everything else I believe.

Wow! How did this come about?

Ask if they can fire the economist so we can get the good sales of yore back ;)

Good luck if it's for an interview, and have fun regardless.
I'm going to be at Valve headquarters on Friday - anything you guys want me to find out from GabeN?
Maybe not for Gabe, but:

Why doesn't the storefront already highlight owned games/DLC in search, bundle pages, etc.?
When are owned DLC and screenshots going to be exposed via the community APIs?
Why Prototype?
Why was the Christmas sale full of so many mediocre discounts?

When the summer sale is.

Ask him why Steam has no parental controls, or sub-accounts.
Wow! How did this come about?
I've been chatting with a few of the folks at Valve about Enhanced Steam. I asked if I could come up and have a look around, and was surprised when the answer was "Yes". :)

Sadly, no interview but it should be cool regardless. Also I'm with you - the sales have been sucking pretty bad lately, but I imagine it could just be a clever trick to get people more excited about the Summer Sale deals.

Your first question is one I've been trying to figure out for a while now. If I find anything out I'll let you know!

Woo! I hope you are going for a job interview. Every time I pull up Steam I see awesome new features added to your extension. Nice!

Edited: Oops! You answered while I was posting.
Ask him why Steam has no parental controls, or sub-accounts.
This is a good point. As a parent of teens, I'm a little cautious sometimes about stuff like this. My youngest is 13 and has his own Steam account now. I just have to keep an eye on it pretty tight - I wish I could limit things like number of hours per day, chat, and M rated games.

When's Half-Life 3 coming out?:D

Wow, that's awesome. I hope you have a great time.
When's Half-Life 3 coming out?:D
Yes, this is really the only question that needs to be asked.

Especially in light of the whole Big Picture mode and now their own console, not having any of these options should be embarrassing.
Yes, this is really the only question that needs to be asked.
No. You forgot about Episode 3.

I had a question awhile back, but I can't remember what it is any more... What was it.
Ask when they'll make the steam browser worth a damn.
The question has already been asked, and the answer is "We have no plans at this time."

Would they consider opening up the client to plugin development? Guys like you with ideas and the ability to implement them could really do a lot to improve and add functionality.

That was actually the very first question I asked when Gabe forwarded the email I sent him to the relevant person. It was my number one question, as it's the number one question I get asked about Enhanced Steam. I mentioned that it wouldn't be incredibly difficult to integrate, as they're already using the Webkit rendering engine. Here is the response I got:

Hi Jason,

We don’t plan on supporting plug-ins for the Steam browser; webkit is just the rendering engine, plugins are a different system at the browser level.

Not that they'd answer this but I've always wondered why they haven't jumped into the ARPG market. It's widely known that GabeN is a WoW fan and they also showed a great affinity for the Torchlight series. Especially given their recent F2P with microtransactions kick. Seems like it would be an ideal fit.
Guys, there is no Half-Life 3. I thought everyone knew that they skipped it and they're working on Half-Life 4.
I heard it was called Half-Life Infinite.
Guys, there is no Half-Life 3. I thought everyone knew that they skipped it and they're working on Half-Life 4.
Honestly, I don't think there will be a Half-Life 3 until we see a brand-spanking new Source Engine 2.0 (or whatever else they decide to call the next Valve game-engine).

I see HL as that rare Valve linear-FPS game that comes along once every so many years (think like 7+ years or so), when I expect the graphics and technology (like HL2) will be extremely cutting-edge, stunning, & ground-breaking, to really showcase what their new engine can do.

Maybe they'll support running an actual browser in the client instead of handing us a half-assed final product. ;) Or maybe they'll support browser emulation in the client in the future.

EDIT: Just got word from Gaben, they'll be releasing a new game this Summer:

No-Life: The Forgotten Franchise.

Hey, what about the Metro 2033/Last Light and Half-Life series crossover? ;)

Does anyone have any words to say on Drakensang? Looks kind of similar to Dragon Age: Origins, and I think I remember hearing it was good.

It's in the latest Groupees bundle if anyone is interested.
Yeah, I thought I remembered someone discussing Drakensang in this thread some time ago, but I can't recall what was said.
utopianmachine? Or zillionandnine? I know it was a girl.

Never finished Drakensang: The Dark Eye. But yeah, I did like what I did play of it, back when I did.
It's quite 90's old-school PC party-based RPG, but w/ modern graphics.
It ain't easy, either - also keep that in mind.
Wasn't the best performing engine back its day - but it did look good, back in its day.
WAY-WAY more text than voice-acting in this game, as well.

Not many party-based RPG's of that type are really on the level of PST, DAO & BG2 though, IMHO.

Thanks for reminding me - when I get a chance, I need to work on Drakensang.
Then maybe, I'll actually want to go try River of Time + DLC.

That is very awesome. Not many of us get to visit such a place, even if it's not for an interview. I hope you can make Enhanced Steam more of a thing and are at least credited by Valve with the idea! :D

Also, the new Be Mine is great. Been looking forward to getting FBF since the Christmas sale. Not sure if anyone noticed, but the robot in the Constant C picture closes his eyelids every so often. Unnecessary, but pretty neat.

yeah, I noticed it on their greenlight page. Never knew you could do that, but it definitely makes it "eye" catching:cool:

Eye see what you did there but, although eye know that iris being verbally lashed, you have to real eyes that it's a little cornea. It would be weyes to seek a pun-master who will mentor you as his pupil.

I'll see myself out to find an escort
