Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

NOTE: If you just want to look at a general trade-in value list for Blockbuster look at the post below this (ie, the third post). Friend of Sonic is maintaining the larger trade-in value list there.

For those looking to build up Blockbuster credit via Gamestop, here are some specific transfer possibilities. Sadly, with the demise of decent trade-in values at Blockbuster there isn't going to be much to trade from GS to BBV without losing money. However, future B1G1 sales at BBV should continue to provide good fodder for turning Blockbuster credit into Gamestop credit.

:wii: Cranium Kabookii $12.99 -> $16 (5/10)
:360: Race Pro $19.99 -> $19 (6/27)

Yeah, that's it... Pretty sad.

And here are a few items that can be traded back to EB/GS. Prices given are standard Blockbuster price and price at EB/GS without Edge or any bonus. Obviously, if you can stack Edge + some other trade-in promo on top, all the better. It is probably better just to check the GS trade-in deal thread for the latest prices though.

Here is a list of known trade-in values for Blockbuster and Gamerush. Blockbuster and Gamerush can update their TIVs during any day of the week, although that does not mean every game's TIV will change. The dates after each game are the date in which the game's TIV is confirmed-- if that date has passed, then your game could possibly trade in for less.

These TIVs are all February 2009 to the present-- if you are curious about the now defunct TIV values for before February, check below this list.

I, too, am hoping a new BBV thread brings new BBV deals. I should be going to a BBV soon and I'll ask about a few TIVs if they're not too busy.
enjoy this thread fellas it might be the last of bbv.
lol, so melodramatic.

But deals at BBV have pretty much dried up as of late anyway.

What a trip, I was just about to go to the BBV that I live right next to.. and there's a new thread. I probably will pick up SMG if my store still got it.. Good to see a new thread!

So, do all BBVs take trade-ins? If so, what is the TIV for Hello Kitty Adventure Island 2?

No, in all seriousness. Maybe we will get some a b1g1 soon so I can pick up mercs 2 and conan.

Your task (and by "your" I mean everyone and anyone here) is to get new quotes for what used to be decent GS -> BBV transfers. I got rid of the ones in the second post that we know are no good any more. Anything in there the says "needs updating" we need new BBV quotes for. Who knows, maybe there is something else in there like Cranium Kabooki.

So Tomb Raider Legend is $19, eh? I actually bought one for $14.98 from Target yesyerday. That used to be a crappy ratio, but now it might not be so bad. I mean, I used to do those kinds of flips when BBV had their $30 preorder deal (trade 2 games and get a $50 game fully paid off for $30). But now, meh, I dunno - it would be good if I knew a decent B1G1 is coming, but without that it is pretty much throwing money away.

Actually, there is another good GS->BBV transfer opportunity that I didn't even pay attention to, though I know someone mentioned it in the old thread. The Lego Indy/Kung-Fu Panda combo is $15 this week at GS - crap, probably ends tomorrow.... I was at a GS yesterday, too, and didn't even think of it.

Indy gets $10, and Kung-Fu Panda probably still gets $8, or maybe $6 now. The thing is, the combo is $11.99 after Edge according to the thread about it (since the discount is taken off the normal $29.99 price). If the 10% coupon stacks as well (though it may not as the $15 price may count as a promo) then that is a decent deal. Of course, you would have to find another case and print two new covers with the original game UPCs to get BBV to take them. That is a fair amount of work (and ink) to get $16 or $18 out of $12 at GS, but it's something, anyway ;).

Yeah, coupon doesn't work - so it would be $12->$16 or $18 (I'm thinking Kung-Fu Panda may have dropped from $8 to $6 at BBV). Probably not worth the trouble unless you really need BBV credit.

Is Dragon Quest Swords any good? My local BBV had one copy of it left, it looked interesting but I didn't get it. Pretty bummed about them not having any SMG's left.. If Dragon Quest is any good, I'll probably go back and pick it up. I just want to give my Wii some lovin nahhhmean?

I picked up MLB 09 The Show today (pre-ordered)...just in case anyone was wondering. They seem to be adding more USED Blu-Ray movies, but still in the crappy rental case.

None of the stores near me have any copies of The Show 09 for sale. Apparnetly, if you don't pre-order, they don't get any for sale.
Why did we get a new thread? I never understand the point of it.
Me neither, but it seems to appease the masses ;). Actually, this is a good time to break with the past given the changes at BBV.

Also, ewto16, preordering by no means guarantees that they will get a game either. I got shafted on my last 3 or 4 preorders and, as a result, simply don't do it any more there. They either send certain games to certain stores or they don't. I don't think preordering has any effect on their allocations. Meanwhile I can go to Gamestop 4 days after a game comes out and my copy is still sitting in a drawer waiting for me (or I could have gotten it the day it came out if I had wanted to).

-------------

Anyway, to illustrate how pathetic their new trade-in values are compared to Gamestop, let's take 2 of the "better" ones.

Tomb Raider Underworld gets $19 at BBV, and CoD:WaW gets $25 at BBV.

TRL gets $17 at GS, and CoD:WaW gets $24 at GS.

So far so good - I'd still rather have GS credit, though, with that small of a difference ($41 at GS vs $44 at BBV).
HOWEVER - when we add in the Edge card boost, we now get $45.10 at GS instead of $44 at BBV.

Then, if we are able to take advantage of the current deal at GS and trade in 6 or more games (and you could throw in Jampacks or Burger King games to round out the 6 so it is easier than it sounds), you would get $61.50 for those two games (plus whatever the other 4 games get + 50%).

So unless BBV brings back their old trade-in deals ($5 bonus per game or preorders for $20 off) then their trade-in program is damn near useless now with the new "competetive" trade-in prices.

Agreed

You obviously have never owned a new car... it's the new car smell, man!

Heres hoping a new thread means new huge rises in the stock price. Stock went up to 47 cents, so my total net loss is only $324 now

*grumble grumble*.

posting for ole times sake

Im sure BBV is now going bankrupt thanks to us not trading in games anymore cuz they screwed everyone in this new TIV drop "competitive" crap

ummmm, can anyone tell me the TIV for Wii Sports? I'm so sick of that worthless game ;).

I really lost track of the last thread over the past couple of weeks. I'll have to keep up with this one a bit better.
Does blockbuster still take original xbox games tradeins?
My local store took my xbox1 trade-ins, but I received just $1.00 for each game

I know I got an $8 quote for Kung Fu Panda on Friday, so unless it dropped this week, it should still be a 1.5, which is a good flip these days. *EDIT* And I see that it's still $8 this week. Thanks JAR.

I'm going to give the weekly special flip a try tomorrow. For anyone else who wants to:

(NOTE: the bar code on this Indiana Jones would not scan at two different BBV)

New thread, nothing new at BB. Just spent the last of my gs credit on killzone 2 and hopefully there will be some worthwhile cash flips that I can put into games I would've bought anyways. Oh well, it was a great ride.

any flips from bbv to gs. I'd take even 1:1 as I just wanna switch some credit to cover a dsi. I'm gonna sell my psp. Just no good games for it anymore. Seems like much more support on games for the ds. I got more than enout gs credit, its just that I got $100+ bbv credit doing nothing, and its pretty much useless to me unless I want a new game.

Also anyone looked that the amazon trade ins. A few aren't that bad. Like beautiful katamari I saw trades in for $9. I got that during the b1g1 and I'm done with it.

I doubt you'll get much for it at BB. I would toss it up on amazon or eBay if you're wanting to get rid of it. You'll probably get around $30 for it.

Are there any known current 1:1 (or better, obviously) flips from GS? Or even just close to 1:1? I don't have the means to print out covers (only have a black-and-white laser printer), so can't do the weekly special flip).

No updates on a timeline for the rumored B1G1 again at BB? I'd like to pick up UT3 again with the upcoming Titan patch, but figured I'd wait until the next sale.

I was just at BBV in San Antonio and there's a sign up promoting the B1G1 free sale on all used games $14.99 and under. I didn't find anything noteworthy so I can't confirm that it is in fact active, but there was a small flyer in the window as I was walking in. I'm going to visit another BBV this afternoon to try to confirm but from what I can tell it is happening. Just good luck finding anything decent. I was hoping to pick up Bioshock but it looks like they put a $19.99 sticker over the old $14.99 one. The only games I saw that were under $14.99 for Xbox 360 were: The Club, Transformers, Spider-Man 3, Fracture, and Condemned 2. Everything else that I saw was $19.99 or greater.
