CAGbag: Get your questions answered on CAGcast

Hey guys. 2 questions for you. I recently got engaged to my gf in New York. Where did you guys propose to your now wives? 2nd question, where did you take your honeymoons at? Appreciate it and been a listener since March 2008 when tai was young and Mrs. wombat was pregnant with Sabrina.

Wombat, did you get to run into / hang out with Christian Spicer at E3? A little disappointed not a single photo of you guys hanging or a DLC meets Unop meets CAG thinga-me-bob.

So, I thought I would ask you opinions on this.  With the recent addition to the Games with Gold program for Xbox One (and the PS equivalent) do you think that this is going to hurt the video game makers in the long run.  While a vast number of people buy some games new, the older long time gamers (like myself) are finding it harder to keep up with all the new games that come out, let alone play them all.  I think I can speak for others that the stacks of shame are getting higher and higher as more FREE stuff comes out with the GWG program and price drops happening faster and faster on big name titles.  Right now, I haven't paid full price for a game in months (if not years) and I feel that at sometime this has to impact the market (not my sales alone but the big crowd of people that are in my situation).  Hell, even Wombat is sometimes having a hard time finding time to game....

thanks

Question for Shipwreck and Wombat: Now that Cheapy was mentioned on Major Nelson's most recent podcast after giving him some good "binaural" at E3, how is he reacting to his newly found fame?  Is he using his powers for good or evil?

So how do you guys feel about IGN Deals and other similar endeavors by websites with a (likely - I have no idea) larger user base?  I just noticed this popping up on my Twitter feed recently and I assume crap like this will cut into your revenue.

With all the controversy of Giant Bomb hiring another 2 white guys, and you guys talking a few times last week about female portrayal in games, any plans on adding Mrs Shipwreck to the podcast to add more diversity?

Is anyone really looking forward to this Q-Bert port?  I spend tons of time in the 80's playing Q-Bert but I don't see the appeal playing with a mouse.  Are there any joystick alternatives?

Am I the only person that can't find the CAGbag questions that were answered on last week's show?  I'm just curious where those were pulled from.

Is the Cagcast the longest running video game podcast? Can't think of any other video game podcasts from 2005 that are still around.

Omg so first Wombat eats no-sugar Peanut Butter, then he goes to Wendys and gets a salad.

I'm not asking anything cause I'd get banned from the questions I have for that man.

So Cheapy - What do you comment on the PS4 not selling shit in Japan?

Ok and Shipwreck - How the hell did Titanfall get the claim of "most awards ever from E3" It's ass.

Wombat, regarding your complaints about the lack of character persistence in Evolved:

Do you feel this way about all competitive games? In the NBA, should teams be able to unlock perks like smaller hoops or closer 3 point lines? Maybe a soccer player could unlock the ability to use his hands.

Okay, yes, these examples are a bit hyperbolic. However, L4D's longevity came from its versus mode, and the kind of character persistence you desire is terrible for that kind of game. It's fine for a cooperative game like Diablo or something casual like League of Legends or CoD, but not for a game that wants to be a real competition of skill and team work.

Actually the thrill of Quake is that everyone starts the same and you've got to fight for better weapons/power ups. If Evolve turns out to be a similar thrill then it could be a long life game for sure.

In episode 372 Wombat and Cheapy seem to agree that "the only thing you can do" with regard to Alien: Isolation's garbage pre-order baiting is to pre-order from Gamestop in order to receive the content being held hostage.

Nope. The only thing gamers SHOULD do is not preorder it, anywhere. How else are we to tell these companies in a meaningful way that we hate and reject this practice? They hear nothing but dollars. Bitching on forums means nothing if we still line up and hand over our wallets.

There's no way I'm pre-ordering this. For one, I'm sending what little message my own buying practices can send. For another, that content is absolutely going to be included in the base package at some point down the line.

I think you misunderstood. Pre-Ordering is currently the only way to get the content , but we were not endorsing it.

Hey, guys. This weekend the finals of The International 4 are coming up, and the event has an $11 million prize pool. Do you think you'll be tuning in for a bit to see what it's all about or does this not interest you at all despite the ridiculous amount of money involved?

Hey Cheapy, Shipwreck, and Wombat,

Since the Kinect is now going to be sold as a standalone accessory at some point, what are the chances it sells anywhere close to what the original did on Xbox 360 considering that the new Kinect has pretty much received constant bad press for the past year? I can't imagine that Microsoft will spend a ton of money in marketing to try to overturn the general sentiment about Kinect, so I don't see it coming close now that people have to go out of their way to get one.

Could the $200 price for Kinect 2.0 be Microsoft's way to make the XBone + Kinect bundle more appealing for those who aren't sure if they want one or not?  I don't see it selling much for $200...but if I was looking at buying a $399 Kinect-less XBone and there is a $499 version with the Kinect then I might think "It's only $100 more if I get it now."   $100 doorstop really sounds better than a $200 doorstop.

What if Microsoft remade the Kinect as an XXX Brand and had "XXXbox Live!"  Porn always sells.

There could be achievements like "100G MoneyShot!" - KerSplat!  And "500's A Crowd!" - 500 Viewers watching you at once!

Also Am I the only one who thinks this Destiny game sucks? Just askin is it just me. Boring, no character development, smart aliens can't talk just grunt? Peter Dinklage is like Uhhhhhhhhh lets go beep boop.

makes me want to play Borderlands

I think this question is long overdue, but always forget to ask it.

...with the new site improvements (been new for months! lol!), I have noticed that there are things that have been removed/taken out either because they're still in the works and/or was removed intentionally(?) and by 'that' I'm referring to the site's 'Member trade/buy/sell game' price tracker, for the lack of a correct term, section where users of the site could actually set their collections for sale by giving it a condition 'status' with a square that a specific 'color' depending if it was in 'acceptble/excellent/new/etc' condition & a price/best offer option price.

My question, obviously, is...Are we ever getting that feature of the site again and, if so, is there any timeframe as to when we'll get it back? If it's not coming back, is there any 'specific' (ex. users being prone to FRAUDELENT users) reason why it isn't coming back?

If this was actually answered before then I'm sorry for asking it again, must have missed the response. Doesn't need to be answered in the podcast, unless you guys have barely any 'cagbag' questions for the episode...then go ahead and use it, maybe you can inform a lot of people about the situation that have been wondering the same thing, but have yet to ask. O:)

Great show guys, you guys are pretty much my #1 Podcast! Keep it up!

Hey guys, I just have a comment about what you guys were talking about on the CAGCAST #374 about Digital Downloads Vs. Physical Copies. Well I may be in the minority with this but I own 2 PS4's. One for myself and of course I had to get the Wifey one since she didn't want to be left out of all the Hype on release day in November. She recently got into shooters with me and some friends with Black Ops 2. So my point to this is that did you know that with PS4 family sharing, you only need 1 Digital Copy bought on your main console and you can share it with your other second console? Only ever really buying only 1 game for 2 people to play with. For example, I bought BF4 and Ghosts on my PS4 Digitally and installed them on both consoles. I had a little issue first getting this to work but I finally figured it out. I made the PS4 in my wife's room (MY PRIMARY CONSOLE) but it is in fact the one she plays on with her profile. In my room, that PS4 is considered the (SECONDARY CONSOLE) but it's the one I game on with my profile as a guest. This really does work. So by doing this, we in fact can play on both consoles at the same time, on the same game, in the same home and all by just buying 1 Digital Copy of each game making us a couple of true CHEAP ASS GAMERS!!!

I in fact just pre-ordered Destiny for the PS4 Digitally for this reason. If my wife ends up liking the BETA and the game itself then this will be a good buy because of saving on the cost of only buying 1 copy.

Now, writing this post made me think about something. You probably can do this and not even be in the same home like me. For example, you may just make your friends PS4 that's located in their home your (PRIMARY) console. As long as YOUR main console is (SECONDARY) & not the (PRIMARY) this in theory should work as it did for me. Therefore, your friend could in fact Log into your profile and download any digitally bought game from your PSN account onto their console under your profile. Once the download is started and installed. They in fact can log out with your profile and log back in with their own profile and since that console is considered your primary, they can actually log in and play as a guest. And in the end, your friend may never have to pay for any game making them a CHEAP ASS GAMER!

Now I would also like to add that I first was not big on buying Digitally. But in this case I can make an exception. I normally would only buy a Physically copy because I like actually having a physical collection that I can look at and handle with my hands. And if I end up choosing to do so, I can trade in my copy of any game for credit and buy another game Vs. Digitally where you can't even put your hands on anything!

Thanks for your guys time & keep up the great work & I'll continue to listen to my #1 Podcast of Choice "CAG CAST"!!!

Do you think digital copies will ever become cheaper than physical copies in our lifetime?  I would rather do Digital if it was 20-50% off the physical copy.  But right now Wombat is correct (who would have thunk?).

Physical = extra junk and you have a resell value

Digital = easy to get/download

The majority of people will look at that resell value and the extras and think why should they download?  I bought the Beta of Destiny because the extras weren't much to brag about and the digital cost a smidgen less.  I'm thinking that the resell value of this game by the time that I want to resell (if it's as good as I suspect) will be next to nothing.  But all the other games I'm getting this year are physical copies.

Since they don't seem interested in pushing the digital or at least making it an appealing buy, do you think that Publishers really don't want to go Digital?  Are they afraid of what it could do to the stores?  Or is it pressure from Gamestop and Best Buy?  I don't think it's the latter because there is no reason Gamestop couldn't sell digital codes, even digital codes with exclusive content.  That would allow them to stock more games even.

What do you think?

Post E3-What are you prices for current consoles/handheld prices for Black Friday?

Hey Shipwreck,
Since you have been on chesse coneys and hot dogs frenzies, what is your detox plan? Any plans in playing extra minutes on the court? Or, have you decided to let yourself go and fulfill Cheapy's prophecy, to gain over 200 lbs by the end of the year.

Hey Cheapy,

Can you please post the episode on iTunes? The last episode does not show up . I enjoy hearing the podcast while driving.

On July 30th at 6:00pm Eastern Time, the xbox one servers went down. Not only could you not sign into services like netflix and hulu, you also couldn't play ANY games that were not disk based. This does not leave me with a good feeling and I don't see myself downloading games if i can buy them on disc instead.

Wombat, your rhapsodizing about the convenience of voice-activating your XBox One got me thinking about something I'd never considered until that moment: don't you have to use your remote to turn on your TV and receiver anyway?

I freely admit I know nothing about the new-gen consoles, and may just not know about an easy setting that makes the voice activation power up everything. But that seems like something I'd have heard about by now, and now I can't help but be a bit deflated on the idea of turning on my console with my voice if it isn't really saving me time or gestures, AND is just as likely to be triggered accidentally as purposefully.

Hey guys,

I hear you giving Nintendo a hard time, and perhaps rightfully so.  But is the Sony/Microsoft mentality of giving games away and selling their higher quality consoles at relatively inexpensive prices profitable??  Certainly Nintendo should make some changes (and they always do for better or worse), but how well is the Sony/Microsoft strategy really work?

buttle

Do you think releasing a PSN/XBLA game the first week of the month is now a risk since many customers have at least one "free" game to download that week? I find myself not buying anything on both marketplaces that week because of it.

Hey guys,

comic question! I want to introduce my son (8) to super heroes, he is mostly into cars and doesn't care about super heroes so far. Which comic book would you recommend as a starter?

I have to say, I am with Shipwreck on Destiny. I don't really understand where the excitement is coming from. The game doesn't stand out to me as anything newly interesting. Do any of you guys see any upcoming new-gen games that really get your interest? Anything that looks new or fresh? The only game really doing that for me is No Man's Sky but really, we have very little idea of what kind of game that actually is.

I noticed that Destiny, Captain America 2 and the iPhone 6 all come out on 9/9.

Which one do you guys think will sell the most copies on the first day?

DC Comics have planned out nine superhero movies through to 2020 what DC Superhero movies would you like to see?

Ever "forced" yourselves through a series?

Hey Cheapy, Wombat, and Shipwreck,

What are your thoughts on the future of EA Access as a monthly service? It's definitely worth it at $30 for the four titles that are available right away, but I can't see people being enthusiastic about the slow trickle of additions after their first month because EA doesn't publish enough titles to compete with PlayStation Plus or Games with Gold. There are only three more titles that can appear on the service over the next six months or so in Need for Speed Rivals, NBA Live 14, and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, as you won't see Titanfall ever and the upcoming games won't be put in the vault until maybe late 2015 at the earliest. So what can they do to keep people subscribed to the service after our one or twelve month subs are up?

I can imagine that this is part of what Sony saw as where there was a lack of value in this service.

Query for the Three Musketeers of Cheapery:

In talking about the terrible issue with Kinect, I rarely hear you guys (or other podcasts) talk about the real killer app of the XBox One:

The XBox Glass App.

I had been juggling a Harmony remote and the cable remote (for anytime DVR manipulation was needed) and voice controls and it was still a pain.  On a whim I decided to work with the Glass app and much to my surprise, it is absolutely fantastic.

If you use it to watch TV and then hit the button that brings up the TV remote interface, the app can be used to manipulate around the cable box menu and access DVR functions.  It gives you the XBox TV guide and it is much faster than the version displayed on the TV screen.   It also has a really convenient control for volume and it works with all the streaming video apps very well.

The only improvement to the app I can think of would be if it let you speak the voice commands directly into the phone instead of relying on the kinect to pick up your voice.  Come to think of it, why isn't that something they are pushing given that the kinect isn't bundled with all systems?  It can't be that difficult?

Anyway, I know Cheapy can't appreciate many of these features because they require US cable, but the app is still really good for just navigating various apps on the system.

And now that the Xbox is hooked into my TV, I no longer use any of my remotes unless I am listening to music through the receiver, which is outside of the XBox/TV ecosystem.

It really is fantastic.

Love the show.  Been a listener for over 3-4 years I think.  Keep it going . . .

- Fastlyf (pronounced "Fast Life" . . . you guys can butcher some names sometimes, lol)

PS: Check the timing on my post above - I promise I wrote that yesterday and knew nothing about the fact that they are adding the ability to stream TV to your phone or tablet through Gass at home.

"I can continue watching the basketball game from the toilet on my phone" you say?

Yes, I say.

That bit really does make the app even more awesome (assuming it works, and given how well it works now, I think it will).

Main (not lameified) version of Skylanders to come on tablets alongside consoles:

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-28743481

What do you think of this? This seems like a big change.

Yes, the controller looks awful. Yes, the price is the same as on consoles. But despite that, this means more parents will buy this so their kids can play the games without hogging the TV.

Will we see more of this? Will this erode the exclusivity consoles/PCs have on "real games" further?

I have a question for Wombat (but all of you can answer this if you like).

Can you rate all of the Bioware Franchises from best to worst?

I personally played Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Dragon Age and I found Dragon Age to be the worst because all the characters that accompanied you in your quest were obnoxious in one way or another.

Hey Cheapy, Wombat, and Shipwreck,

I'm sure you'll talk a lot about the Tomb Raider deal, so I wanted to add some potential topics of discussion. The PR on Microsoft's end seemed to be more of the classic Xbox One PR where different heads at Microsoft are saying things differently enough to cause more chaos than calming them down while I saw at least one Square Enix employee talk about the game as being "100% exclusive" with Crystal Dynamics pulling a Don Mattrick by telling PC/PS4 owners that they can enjoy the Lara Croft dual-stick shooter if they still want Tomb Raider. They all just came off as being tone deaf about why people were upset or concerned about what was going on.

The other point is how does this game help Xbox One when it's not coming out for at least another 12 months when the system needs a lot of help right now? Their short term strategy seems to be a lot of bundles and a few exclusives, but how likely will those games be to turn it around? Recent news of Dead Rising 3 and Ryse coming to PC means there are less reasons right now to get an Xbox One unless you're a huge Forza fan or you're excited by one of the big upcoming games, so I get the impression that they didn't have much of a plan in place should PS4 come out of the game to trounce them and are just grasping for any short term help that they can get until the more legit exclusives like Halo 5, Fable Legends, Crackdown, Quantum Break, and others are ready for release.
