The General eBay Rant Thread

In case some of you guys are selling your Inquisitor's edition, these are a little pain in the butt to package.  The display casing is not well fitted to keep them in place so a lot of the pieces may come broken by the time they arrive.  So I bubble wrapped two of the larger pieces to ensure they didn't break.  The rest I just taped against the display to make sure they didn't get loose.

Did eBay and Paypal just increase the threshold for signature confirmation?  Based on what I looked up, it's $750.  I know it used to be $250.

So I sold that ATT Go Phone I bought a month ago to get the GCU and the buyer on EBay lied and gave me negative feedback saying I sold him an opened item missing parts.

I used the report buyer link and submitted that form but is there anything else I can do or am I screwed?

All I did was take out my packing slip and reseal the box and send it off to the buyer, who was buying it for his brother who's in the Navy. Hopefully I'll end up OK as he's just sending it straight to his brother so if it's damaged I can say it was done when it was shipped to the Navy base/ship and they need to take it up with Triforce. Also I insured it with UPS for $300.

Anyone on here use FedEx Smart Post shipping option?  I've always used USPS since I usually don't ship things heavier than 2 lbs (mainly 4-6 oz games like most on here), but I was surprised how much cheaper they can be on heavier items.  Just sold a board game that was over 4 lbs, and it was a difference of $17 to $11 between USPS parcel post and FedEx Smart Post.

What's odd is that USPS service handles the pick up and final delivery, but even with most all shipments they still use FedEx for air.  The only difference between Smart Post is that FedEx handles the pick up / delivery to the airport, USPS still does the home delivery.

Nope. Ebay doesn't give a shit about sellers filing reports. Not one bit at all. I've reported actual fraud a number of times and they've straight up told me that they don't care and that their policies regarding most everything favor the buyer 99.9% of the time.

Just gotta suck it up and move on unfortunately :(

That suvks man. At least it wasn't a high dollar value item.

Read through here for some more tips. You might not get your money back, but you might scare the guy.

Yep, I do. I always offer the absolute cheapest shipping I can for free shipping, and if they want priority, they have to pay the difference.

Worst case scenario your insurance will cover. The buyer if he spends enough time to dwell on it though can realize how poorly fitted the display case is and discern that the damage could have also been incurred in transit to your home. Triforce and EA really screwed this CE design. I'm stunned nobody even bothered to shake the damn box when they made their prototype.

Well if he does anything I'm going to pursue the insurance with UPS and when I get the item back I'll probably return it to GameStop, I still have the packing slip/receipt and their gift givers guarantee is until Jan. 15.

I know USPS handles the end of the FedEx smart post (Fedex delivers it via Ground to the local post office and USPS does the rest) but I was under the impression it had to be dropped off at a fedex facility... meaning you can NOT drop it off at the post office. It even states as much in the directions that print with the label

Yeah it has to be a FedEx location for Smart Post, and at a location that normally has pick ups for ground service (FedEx Air service and ground operate very differently, almost like different companies). Means you cant just put it in a FedEx box and expect it to get handled properly (which is usually just air service).

Most of the time when I ship above the first class limit (but below 3 lbs.) USPS Priority (own package, not the flat rate boxes) ends up being cheaper than parcel post, which never made sense to me.

Yeah, "parcel select" makes no sense at all to me. It almost never ends up being cheaper (sometimes it's MORE), and when it is cheaper, the difference is insignificant.

Well, it is cheaper above a certain weight. I know I ship 20 lb boxes cross country sometimes, and it's like $40 parcel select versus $150 priority.

I calculated shipping for a 10 lb box just recently and priority mail was up to $60. Parcel select was half that. So yeah, I'd say it's worth it depending on what you're shipping (in my case it was these life-sized dolls, so the dimensions were absolutely ridiculous).

Real Dolls?

My Size Elsa from Frozen. Figuring out how to make a box that was over 3 feet tall was a gigantic pain.
Should have gone FedEx ground/home. You can print the labels through eBay and at that weight/size it's almost guaranteed to be significantly cheaper. Only downside is there aren't as many drop off locations as USPS

Can't print FedEx labels on eBay if it's not sold through eBay, i.e. to family.

I rather do drop offs at FedEx, cause they're open much later than USPS. USPS here have shorter hours than my work schedule. FedEx has 24 hour locations near me.

So the guy I shipped the DA CE to says the item got to him "broken and missing pieces" and has gone through EBay for a refund. Do I file a claim with UPS first or do I do the refund then do the claim? Do I hold the refund until I get the item back?

I can't say I've had a similar experience to go off of.  Usually the buyer has contacted me before opening a case and I've worked to resolve them before anything.  I think the stage of the claim will dictate your next step.  You're not supposed to issue a refund until the end - after you receive the item (if it gets to that point).  Triforce is handling the replacements so ideally, the buyer would just contact them and show them the damaged items to get a replacement.  But again, what you do next is based on what stage the eBay claim is currently at.  For the Triforce info, look up their official Twitter page.  It makes mention of contacting a "Josh Gray."

I had a couple of defective CE's as well.  I was able to swap the parts around to consolidate it into one broken CE instead.  I'm going to send an email to Josh about it now and see what happens next.  The one buyer I contacted about the broken CE responded and asked me to take care of the replacement so luckily he's being patient about the process with me.

I sold a new and still sealed 3ds. i just had my customer contact me saying that the touch screen didn't work. I told them to contact Nintendo. I was just wondering if I was liable for it.

Some people are just bad with emails so give it time. But you should not refund a buyer without getting your item back first. Hopefully you documented the serial number.

Even if they swapped the systems and the serial numbers didn't match, wouldn't eBay still side with the buyer? Although I guess that'd come in handy if you were going to file a police report or something.

Even the threat of comparing serials will put off some scammers. At the very least getting something back is better than nothing

For that matter, even if they send back a Gameboy Pocket in a 3DS box eBay will side with the buyer.

So I had a buyer that bought my Kingdom Hearts 2.5 CE message me on the same day and say his son bought the item without his permission.  He's complaining about a bank overdraft charge.  Not sure how honest his story is but if so, I'm happy he's getting overdrafted.  It's annoying to have to deal with buyers that back out of their purchases.  He messaged me last night so I'm deliberately going to wait until the end of today to respond just so he can squirm a little more while still responding within 1 business day.  I'll probably give him some guilt trip in the message to teach him a lesson. Serves him right. I'm feeling salty today hah.

So, had this guy by 2 DVD sets off of me over a month ago. Said that he would pay later that week when his check came in. No problem. Few days later he messages me that he cannot pay due to needing the funds elsewhere, so I initiate a cancellation request. He apparently never accepted it because he just paid for them a few hours ago.

I asked about a month ago about those priority USPS 'if it fits, it ships' flat-rate  boxes and I have another question. On the box it says it can go anywhere domestically and also says international but only if it's 20lbs or less. I looked on their site and couldn't find anything that expanded on this but do they mean anywhere internationally or are there limits? I never ship overseas and always limit my sales to the US but if this box means what they are implying I'm willing to open up this particular item to overseas as well for a better chance of selling but only if I can still ship it for the same flat-rate, Like I said, I looked on the site listings for the box but they mentioned nothing in the fine print.

International flat-rate costs are higher. If you want to open it up to oversees, I recommend the eBay global shipping program.

Anyone have trouble with USPS tracking not updating?  I shipped 2 things on Monday at 4:58 pm at the post office(dropped it through the slot) and one of them has not updated at all and the other said accepted at 2:06 pm teusday and nothing else after that.

There was something odd going on with the USPS today I think. I've seen a lot of complaints of service disruptions in various areas of the country and tracking not updating.

I had a guy buy a dvd from me. I had to file a case to get him to pay. Now almost 2 weeks after USPS says the item has been delivered he opens a case saying he hasn't received the item. Also in the comments he lists a completely different address than what is in the order details. How do I proceed with this?

edit

He closed the case after I showed him the address listed under the order details. Seems like I only have problems with people with 0 feedback

^ This is correct. Always record the serial numbers and keep the original receipt with the S/N if you happen to have it (I staple mine to the PayPal invoice (I print and file those).

You're right eBay will INITIALLY side with the buyer. If you have the serial number you can use it to A) file a police report and B) to file a report of postal fraud (a felony) with the postal inspector online.

A case number with either will almost always win for the seller on appeal.

I sold Cubic Ninja on Amazon on November 18. Delivery confirmation shows it arriving on November 24. The buyer emailed me December 1, asking where the item I was. I gave him the tracking info. He said he would take it up with Amazon, but thanked me for responding. Today I get a notice that he wants to return it Reason: Doesn't want.

This is the 1st thing I've sold on Amazon.  I'm worried that he's processing the return because he never received the item and will mail me back an empty package.

Do I have to refund it?

Maybe he wants to return it because the game no longer lets you run homebrew?

Edit: I don't sell on Amazon but I think there are better ways for him to scam you then to send back an empty envelope. I thought Amazon always sided with the buyer even if delivery confirmation shows delivered meaning if he wanted a free item he would have just stuck to the "I didn't receive it" routine.

I could be wrong though.

That sounds like too much work. Do people do that type of things? That fame is not rare or anything

Sounds like he may have ordered more than one copy, but I could be wrong. Anyone versed in scamming (speaking as a seller who people have to tried to screw in the past) would not go through the trouble of a return and ship back an empty envelope when an fraudulent A-Z would do the same job. That is the most common way people scam on there.

As far as returns, I've had a few switcheroos attempted and am actually expecting one to show up in my mailbox this week. People will buy your rare/uncommon game/dvd/etc and claim it's defective and ship back a scratched up or broken item. I learned my lesson after a $40 DVD was returned and I didn't bother to check it until after I refunded, only to discover that it clearly wasn't the one I shipped.

What I do now with my more expensive items is put an inconspicuous mark on them. I originally did the black light pen thing, but now that's starting to become common (and easily manipulated by anyone who would bother to), I use a small stencil I made of my sellers logo (the pinata head) and make three dots that align with corners of the logo. Fortunately, I haven't had an issue yet, but it's good to have a method in place just in case.

So how many times has USPS been incorrect in their delivery date estimate on their site? Sent out a package via USPS priority last friday and USPS still hasnt delivered it even though the estimate stated this past monday. Last status update was that it left California. The package was headed to Texas.

I wouldn't be so worried if the package wasn't of such high value but a least I got insurance on it.

I got a little lazy with something I've been meaning to sell and probably won't be listing it until Saturday night for a 7 day (though due to this I may just do 5 day but for discussion sake...) so as long as I say I make no guarantees it will arrive by Xmas, will I be fine or can a seller screw me over in any way if this thing doesn't get it to them by Christmas eve? I would ship it Monday morning first thing and it would be in one of the those if it fits, it ships boxes that I believe are priority. As long as I'm not guaranteeing anything am I alright or are there precautions I should take shipping something that close to Christmas?

Quick question regarding PayPal's IRS reporting policies.

Does PayPal send information on your account to the IRS if you have $20,000 USD in gross payment volume from sales of goods or services in a single year AND 200 payments for goods or services in the same year, or is it just a matter of if you hit EITHER of those thresholds?

So will PayPal send your info to the IRS if you have 201 eBay sales, but the gross payment volume of those sales is only $500?
