Seems like I have not gotten an exotic weapon drop in forever.
I think most of you are just so accustomed to having good luck haha. I haven't got an exotic drop in well over a month.

Prep for hard raid. That's why I've been holding off on getting to level 32 until they announce the hard raid date. There's no point wasting my shards on armor when there are still many weeks and chances to get armor with better stats.
Well yeah that was what I have been doing too but with these constant exploits I am losing faith that we will have a cheese-free Hard Raid, which then to me makes it absolutely useless.

Yeah, I had that happen once as well. And I didn't get two Thunderlords. I got a Thunderlord and a Truth ;).

Vendetta had the Vault of Glass hard mode Oracles checkpoint and we ran that with him and some of the people from my other Raid group and I got a Vex, Atheon's Epilogue, and a ship. That was a pretty good drop from Atheon though I already had all of that. One of the people from my other group had never gotten Vex so she was pretty pissed me and Vendetta's friend also got it. Vendetta's friend had probably the best Atheon drop ever though: Vex, Icebreaker, helm, and ship. He also got Praedyth's Timepiece from the Oracles. I didn't see anyone get the Praetorian Foil which is the only weapon I never got from VoG.

Vex is definitely still 323 max. It's too bad they didn't increase it - would have been awesome to snag just after the update if so.

I swapped all 3 of my characters out for the exotic chest and only got mats. Someone else got Patience and Time.

I still need to run Weeklies on two characters and then I'm definitely taking a break until Monday night.
Yeah that was kind of ridiculous what his drops were. To be fair though he didn't get dick when we ran through Crota before doing VoG. And I'm still corrective measure-less and Timepiece-less. .. Oh well at least I got Ir Yut on Crota earlier. So I only need Hunger and I'm set weapon wise. :D

I gotta say man, your group knows what the heck they are doing. That was one of the most smooth VoG runs on hard I've had in quite some time. I friended them all. Thanks for the run too. Granted I didn't get anything but it is always fun running through when it is painless like that.

Also didn't he get Truth as well from that chest?

Anyways to me it seemed like Exotics were dropping like Candy yesterday. Minus one of my Nightfall runs, every thing else had an exotic or every Weekly Heroic I ran, someone always got a Legendary Engram.

Rad, you should have heard those dudes in VOG last night before I invited you. We only had 4 people at the time (I found the group on Destiny LFG) and I was like, I have someone on my friends list who I think would be down, I'll send him an invite if we need someone. They're like, "Whoa whoa, first we need to know whether he's level at least 31, does he have either Gjallarhorn or Ice Breaker, is he really good, has he completed the raid on hard before... Tell us his gamertag first so we can vet him." I'm like, yeah, you're totally right, rather than me inviting someone, we should just not do this because we don't have enough people instead. Great idea. Then of course, I told them I sent the invite and within 5 seconds it's like "Where is he? Is your friend coming? Why isn't he here yet?!" nonstop. Luckily they settled down a bit once we actually started the fight.

Haha that is why I hate LFG stuff. I just need to play with friends I really enjoy playing with and we know each other's skills and everything. I would rather not play at all, than play a Raid with people I do not like playing with.

100% agreed. I actually must have gotten lucky and I've met some really good people at first through LFG. I'm dreading trying to do Crota that method now because I bet 75%-80% of those kids on there only cheesed and can't do that shit legit. Last week was rough trying to get people for VoG hard. These kids I grouped up with wanted to do Oracles non-cheese, which is fine. Then they proceeded to die oh about 10 times. So being strapped for time as is, I suggest the cheese. And these dipshits couldn't even do that right. I normally don't bail but I was pissed so I just left and said F'it.

For that exact reason (LFG kids sucking something fierce) Broly I'm going to add you. Simosaurus same with you and Linkin Prime as well. Anyone else I need to add? :)

Also io's group had a great strat in my opinion for Crota. Essentially what one of the guys was explaining to me was, as soon as they clear the side rooms, go for chalice, kill sword guy ASAP. Then everyone fires on rocket and shoots primary. If you do it quick enough, you can get three downs on Crota with the first sword. So for you guys that I tried to help with Crota last night, if you want to give it another go lets maybe try this? I'm done raiding for the week but am always open to helping out!

Haha damn yeah I know that feeling. I am normally super chill and try to be helpful even when people are doing poorly but I have had a few times where we get some random in our group and they are incompetent as all belief and cannot even just listen to instructions and I just can't hold it in haha

But yeah I haven't been playing nearly as much as I used to but I still am on more than I should be haha I am trying to focus more on school right now but half the time when I get home from a long night of work and then school after, how am I supposed to focus on more work? Eff that, it is Destiny time then : P

(I am going to add you too then)

I used up my noob patience around VoG raid 20, more or less  . And no question about it, I really try to avoid LFG now even though I've found some good friends that way. I'd just rather play with friends and avoid the grief

I still help out lower levels and inexperienced guardians. But I can't stand it when they refuse to listen or work with the group.

I mean, I don't say anything until I see they're struggling or causing problems, then I'll speak up.

I would have finished the raid with them if they would have talked less. I've been struggling to find solid fireteams lately, being a 31 doesn't mean anything, there's no way to judge raid experience. It'd be nice to line up more raids with the CAG group instead of always jumping in with randoms off the fireteam finder. Anyone doing Crota tonight? I want to get that done and then play IB the rest of the week and try to finish Thorn and Bad Juju.

Oh man. I was beginning to lose hope, especially after getting 4 arms in one run. Finally got the fatebringer. Time to instalevel that baby up. =D

Interesting tactic. Do you guys try to get that second sword bearer or is it just about speed?

And we were missing probably the best player from our group (the "Bahamat" they kept referring to when joking around). I'm pretty much the scrub of that group - so you see why I've latched on to them ;). They always invite me to stuff, though, so I must not be too bad of a scrub...

But yeah, as for LFG or destinyteamfinder or any of those other places, I used to use those all the time back when I was first doing VoG on Normal. Since most of the guys here couldn't run it late at night and we usually just did one CAG run Tuesday evening I used to run my alts via those sites. I had experiences that ran the gamut. I had smooth runs, and I had runs where they could barely get the damn gate open at the beginning. But probably the worst was with some guys that were really good but rushed through everything. They got to the exotic chest before me, and instead of waiting they rushed on to Gorgons and got killed which locked me out of the chest room. I almost quit then. At least we cleared the rest fast and I was done with them. Plus their inane babble (crude jokes, swearing for no particular reason, bodily noises) was driving me nuts. Oh yeah, and there was that one time where an Australian guy went AFK mid-raid when he got in an argument with his girlfriend - guess he forgot his Kinect was on or something... And on another we were trying to cheese Atheon and the guy leading us was getting frustrated after a few wipes and called us all incompetent and rage quit. I then successfully cheesed Atheon on the next try.

But I never used those sites for Hard mode - I just figured that would be too frustrating.

We've never gotten the two. I thought they patched that anyway? Though it seems like their patch was less than they claimed it was. Anyway, if you have a level 32 swordbearer and you down Crota 3 times, you can get him killed before the ogres even spawn. At worst, if your sword guy screws up you can get it done in a few more tries after ogres. We've had the swordbearer die, killed the oversoul, revived the swordbearer, and still beat Crota. But really the level and skill of the swordbearer is critical. I tried it once and since I kind of suck at the jumping stuff I couldn't get up there quickly enough. I'm sure with practice I could get it done, but when 5 other people are depending on you it is just easier to go with the people who are better at it.

That brings up an interesting point. Rememeber way back when groups would organize at Atheon with the away team and portal defense teams? And then Bungie made the teleports random because that's not how they intended it to be played. Then everyone had to learn how to do all the parts (portal defense, relic, oracles). Well, Crota is the polar opposite of that with the ultra-specialization of having one sword guy, maybe a boomer sniper (that's usually my job), and the rest taking down his shields. I wonder if they will mix that up for Hard and make the swordbearer have to be different people each time? That would make it incredibly difficult.

Yeah, speed is the key really throughout the whole Crota raid. You want to rush through the first part just so you don't have everyone scattered around in various places. The second part (if done legit) needs some speed because the longer you take getting people over the bridge just means more chances for someone on either side to die and screw it all up. Of course there's the timer on Deathsinger. And then there's a pretty short enrage timer on Crota not to mention that he moves to the right if you don't get that Swordbearer pretty quickly.

With the CAG group last night I think we couldn't get it done because we were spending too much time picking off adds when the Swordbearer was out. A couple of times Crota moved right before we even got one attack in, let alone 2 or 3. Yeah, you gotta take him down quick. Also I think the guy running the sword was 31, so when he did do damage, it wasn't all that much. You ought to be able to get him nearly half way down with the first sword if you are 32. Even when I tried it and couldn't get that many hits in because I didn't get up there quickly enough I took 1/4 of his health. We also weren't getting Crota's shields down fast enough. Supposedly a level 32 with G-horn can take them down in 2 shots.

Also, with everyone on the left side there is more danger of someone dying from the boomers. In my other group everyone goes to the lower chamber. I think that does make the swordbearer's job a little tougher, though, because they have to jump from right below Crota usually. That's what I couldn't do reliably (at least with my Hunter - might be easier with the other two). The left side strategy maybe makes the swordbearer jump a little easier but has the trade-off of leaving everyone exposed.

Yeah, that was the impression I had. There wasn't any big weakness to our strategy or anything, it was more that we just weren't working quickly enough and making the most of opportunities.

Yeah, TL;DR version Crota keys:

1) Level 32 sword guy
2) Sword guy who is good at jumping
3) Take down Swordbearer ASAP after clearing rooms
4) Wail on Crota immediately after killing Swordbearer

If you communicate well enough you can tell the sword guy to start heading up as Crota is about to kneel. That is how you can get 3 attacks in. Though, really, getting 2 is just fine. You have 4 swords (2 before ogres, 2 after) and a level 32 can easily take 1/4 of his health with 2 kneeldowns per sword. A level 31 will have to take more risks (to get more hits in).

UGH

I am so effing sick of this Raid, seriously not A SINGLE PIECE of armor for my Warlock. Not one. Oh and you know what I got from Deathsinger??? Another Class Armor. Cool. All my other characters are set but here is my favorite character with the worst gear I could have and just ugh, I am getting really annoyed. Oh, I did get my 4th Hunger of Crota! Yippeee! Haha Still don't have the Machine Gun.

During my rant my one buddy spoke some sense into me. He noted that once Hard Raid comes out we shouldn't really be in all that much of a struggle for shards. I already have enough to max out 3 characters to 32 I just didn't want to waste them on bad rolls but really with 3 characters and Eris at rank 4 once we are running double the Raids a week I should be fine and have more than enough soon enough.

Nightfalls however were finally on my side!!

Like I said after about a month of no Exotic Drops I got.... drum rollllllllllllllll.... Another Last Word! Hahah ugh, I have gotten that more than any other exotic! But at least it is another Shard. I also got another Knucklehead Radar. I already had one and I do not feel like leveling it all back up again, but it had a higher strength role by about 17 so I figured why not! And then of course the 3rd run put me back in my place with more Ascendent Energy haha

First world problems. ;-)

I've never gotten an exotic from Nightfall. In all the raids I've gotten ONE exotic. That was the mita multi tool from vault of glass. In all of my runs on Crota I have gotten the rocket and machine guns. I have not received a class item. I did manage to get lucky on armor, but that is about it. About the only time I got lucky was getting the obsidian mind from an engram.... after getting three other helmets for other classes prior. I would take repeats just so I can say I got something other than shards or energy...

Getting a feel for Fatebringer in PVP... Nothing too special in the clip but I thought it was funny because I got a postmortem double kill (I remember unlocking an achievement for that in Halo Reach!) that was sooo close to being a triple if the one guy hadn't been a little faster than his teammates. :)
Hmmm never really liked Fatebringer in PvP. Most encounters are usually 1v1 maybe 1v2 and so having the explosion doesn't help all that much from what I have noticed. I still prefer one of my million Last Words haha

Yeah I kinda feel the same way. I have a TFWPKY that's completely tuned for stability over reload speed, since I figure if you're trying to reload in the middle of a firefight in PVP, you're dead no matter what. And of course Thorn is a beast, gotta love all those postmortem poison kills.

Damn you guys have some unlucky RNG

This week I've gotten 2 exotics from the raid. IceBreaker, No Land Beyond. And got a 2nd Suros from the Nightfall last week.

Yeah FateBringer is definitely a stronger PVE weapon than PVP. Last Word and Thorn are definitely better options IMO.

Also my RNG decided this week that I needed the 2 raid Machineguns! Got Corrective Measure for the first time finally to go with my Ir Yut from the previous day. Good RNG for me this week after 2 weeks of crap (minus my 2nd Suros). So io won't give me too much grief for complaining. ;)

EDIT: So one of my twitter followers was talking smack to me earlier so I decided to put him in his place.

This doesn't include my 2nd Suros and my 2nd Vex (I've actually gotten 3 but I sharded the other one). Only missing Red Death now. And I think like 5 of these require an upgrade but I have an Invective bounty going right now. :) And yes I have 2 Gjallarhorns :D

Yep. I did the vault of glass every week and never managed to get raid boots..... Until I went back with a group to do it on hard after Crota came out. Then I got two pairs. Of course, boots were the first things I got from Crota and I also had a pair from Iron Banner. In fact the last month and half of VoG all I received were ascendant materials.

Same here except that I never got gloves during VoG and I had been running it 3x a week since launch...

Then first thing I got in Crota was gloves hah

to be fair you run the nightfall and raid 66% less than the rest of us. otherwise you would have every exotic like the rest of us ;)

I may be in the minority here, but I think there are plenty of Destiny players who only run one character. And the fact that so many people have played multiple characters and still aren't that much better off with weapon drops than I am (getting multiples of the same gun) doesn't really persuade me to level up any of those other classes I created. I think Bungie has a good core, but their reward system does not give that dopamine release like other games have perfected. Maybe they aren't going for a loot based game, but I don't think their replayibility is going to come from the extraordinary amount of content they have.

As far as exotics go, I've got plenty. I just had to "earn" them (as the Bungie forum trolls would say) through bounties or spending coins with Xur. No handouts for me. ;-)

I actually enjoy playing the game with different characters. Each class has its own playstyle and it is fun to approach the same nightfall or whatever but in a different way.

Even my friends that don't play this game all that much still have 3 characters actually just to have different things to play as. The game itself can be repetitive, so why do the same things but with the exact same class too?

Oh, I get that and it shows the good game design on that is in there. I just meant from the perspective of getting better loot from RNG by playing multiple characters. It doesn't seem like multiple characters increase your odds that greatly. I know pleanty of people who play multiples and have yet to get an exotic from the raid and then there are people who play one character and seem to get something every time.

Sorry, I quit a little early last night. I still want to run VoG this week. I'll be around between 7:00 and 10:00 CST tonight, otherwise I can do tomorrow night, Saturday afternoon, or anytime Sunday.

Oh yeah that is a crapshoot and is completely luck based. Regardless though I would have 3x shitty luck with a chance of one of them being good vs 1x shitty luck with only a chance that one could be good.

Bungie released some numbers previously that indicates there's an average of just above 2 characters per player. It's not about the replay value, it's about getting 2 extra slot machine rolls a week for minimal effort (what else are you going to do? dailies?? ;))

I'm talking about when I told you this repeatedly two months ago and you said it was a waste of time leveling up another character (6-7 hours) and proceeded to spend hours and hours on dailies (and falling through the floor in AC:U) :wall:

I'm talking about when I told you this repeatedly two months ago and you said it was a waste of time leveling up another character (6-7 hours) and proceeded to spend hours and hours on dailies (and falling through the floor in AC:U) :wall:
I didn't say it was a waste of time. I just didn't want to do it because I would rather do Nightfall, Weekly, etc. once than run through it three times even if it is with different characters. Then go play something else. I would do that daily on occasion but not every day. Usually at this point if I'm in Destiny I'm running around with others and that's what I play it for. Not very often I'm solo and I'm definitely not playing for the "rewards." I'm not judging those that do want to play it that way. I just don't want to. And technically I do have three characters, just two of them are level 2. I would be more interested in what "Bungie says" if they included how actively people play those characters. It is just like when Facebook says they have so many users, but how many of those are active, bots, or just zombie accounts? ;-)

I would love something like that where it is far more dynamic. Right now Crota really does not feel powerful himself at all. The final fight is just a paced effort against the situation and not really against him as a boss. I know in something like this it would be difficult to give such unpredictable actions but really I would welcome it greatly.

When we ran it the other night he did come into the side rooms a couple times. Not that far but it seems like he has a larger range of motion than what I remember.

It was mentioned before but make sure you stay in game after defeating crota until it kicks you to orbit. I had an Exotic (Dragon's Breath) drop on the loot screen after defeating Crota the other day. Speaking of that, does anyone still have to run crota? Still wanted to do Deathsinger/Crota on my 2 other characters this week.

to be fair you run the nightfall and raid 66% less than the rest of us. otherwise you would have every exotic like the rest of us ;)
Speak for yourself Mr. Obsidian Mind. Oh yeah, wait, even 65% less Moose got that... (I also don't have Suros, Red Death, and a number of armor pieces).

This Raid just doesn't want to give me Hunger of Crota for whatever reason.

And Broly, I also figured the shard situation would be improving so that's why I went ahead and leveled up my Titan to 32 this week even though the rolls aren't the best. I'll do the same for my Warlock (with even worse stats) next week if I don't get any replacement gear. I figure after that if I get a dramatically better piece of gear I should have enough shards to replace at least one per week. It is just so much better being 32 for the last two parts of the Raid as it stands now. It is like easy mode. And I figure it will be a requirement for Hard mode which I'm guessing is not next week but the week after.

It actually kicks you to orbit? It seems like we have hung out there for a very long time and never had it kick us. Of course my group is usually rush, rush, rush so we haven't stayed more than 20 seconds afterwards this week. Some people still got exotics when going to orbit even then by the way.

As for the Crota chase thing, that would make it very hard - especially if he goes into those rooms. It would be hard to get his shields down. I'm worried that there will be automatic Oversoul in hard mode (like during enrage). It just seems odd that there are those armor perks that are Oversoul-related - because you'd never need those in any decent run on Normal.

Yeah, Crota's been able to go into the rooms since before the patch. Learned that the hard way, during the first week of the new raid  .

Caught us all by surprise just because we thought he was too tall to fit in there.

Anyway, he'll follow you in if you happen to catch his attention, otherwise he just hangs out like the giant turd that he is.

And the exotics will pop immediately. You'll see it in the list of rewards that everyone gets.

Of course it can be easy to miss if you're more focused on seeing the icon pic of what you personally got (since the pic appears on the upper-right where the list appears lower-left).

What I noticed is that often the other people would be joking about what someone got (because it was a No Land Beyond) and that person meanwhile had no idea they got it and didn't know what we were talking about. Then when we went to orbit they understood ;).

Oh yeah, that's always fun .

Just the other night, one of my friends was telling me how he got NLB from the NF, then immediately got another from Deathsinger. Of course, we beat Crota and he pulled his 3rd NLB of the night.

We couldn't help but laugh.

The joke's on me: I bought one from Xur. But at least I haven't gotten any from the Raid/Nightfall, so that is the only one I have. I bought it just for the grimoire card ;).

Ditto. Wasn't going to but said, F'it and grabbed it at the last minute. Stupid half-asleep decisions

Gets in my way faaar more than it's ever been helpful (and yes, I try to use every now and then, only to loathe the poor ammo situation).

I could see myself using it if only it carried the same amount of ammo as a hand cannon or maybe if it had re-gen ammo

Yeah, hard mode out on Weds at 10am is... odd...

I know some of the people in my group wanted to beat it ASAP but that might throw a wrench in that plan unless everyone takes off work that day. I have a conference call at noon I can't miss so they'll have to pause for 30 minutes if we run that long ;).

But then again they put a little caveat in there that it might be a little later if they can't get it working on time so that really screws with everyone's planning. Oh well. I don't particularity care about beating it first or whatever - just want to get it done some time that first week.
