https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_L4qyvxAFI

Mark your calendars because a brand new single-player adventure is coming Tuesday, August 11! In Dragon Age: Inquisition – The Descent, you will venture deep below the surface to discover the source of mysterious earthquakes threatening Thedas. Explore the legendary Deep Roads, but ensure that you come prepared. A perilous journey awaits underground, where vast, darkspawn-infested caverns will challenge the Inquisition like never before. Meet memorable new characters, learn more about dwarven history, and collect epic loot as you fight to solve one of Thedas's greatest mysteries. Hidden danger lurks within the Stone, Inquisitor. Good luck!

No word on price, but I'm expecting $15.  I'm in.

Nice that it scales, rather than be a Level 20+ like Jaws is.

And it's $13.50, not $15, since I know everyone in here has EA Access, right? ;-)

Also, DA: I is going into the Vault for EA Access soon, so there won't be any excuses for people not to play it on XB1.

It's in there now. I downloaded it last night.

Man that DLC was a letdown compared to Hakkon. The final boss fight reminded me of the end of DA 2 Legacy, & not in a good way.

Hope the reported new story expansion being announced at PAX is good.

That's disappointing.  The trailer made it look pretty good, though reviews haven't been very kind to it:

I think I'm going to wait on this one until it hits a sale.  I waited a few months and picked up Hakkon for about $10, so I can certainly wait until it hits at least a 25% off sale.

If the rumored story expansion is something like DA:O Awakening, I'm all in, since that was some good stuff.

The thing about the final boss fight is just like in Legacy there's no real way to keep your party alive to win the fight. It just becomes hack at boss & keep my armor up until boss does AOE attacks, run around dodging the attacks, then repeat for 30-35 minutes.

Also there's very little VO from any of the normal cast outside of Inquisitor & two scenes with Harding. It does open up some interesting lore things about the dwarves, but basically leaves them unresolved & more questions than answers (which the Inquisitor even says in the final cut scene.)

Loot is not as good as Hakkon playing post game, but would be better for those in the middle of the main game. Problem is, the Inquisitor ability you get from Hakkon DLC is super useful against all of the archers you'll face in Descent, especially the new archers you meet halfway through. I don't know how a non-Warrior Inquisitor will fare in Descent outside of normal difficulty w/o playing Hakkon first.

Best Easter Eggs:
1. David Hayter plays the male Dwarf commander of the Legion of the Dead you meet, & the main puzzle mechanic in the DLC is finding bloodied metal gears to unlock doors.
2. If you've beat the game, on the final floor the Inquisitor says, " I didn't beat *x* just to die here!"

New DLC being announced at PAX. Rumor is from Shinobi on GAF is that this will be the last DLC for Inquisition.

If so that's sad that they do 3 in less than a year then just stop & go I guess to the next game.

The dlc for Inquisition seemed odd to me. The cadence set with ME 2 and 3 was consistent and purposeful. With DA:I, it almost feels like an after thought.

Well, here's to hoping the last dlc is good. I'd love a good reason to go back to Thedas.

Well Bioware talked about how now with this "open world" they have a template to add more stories easily and expand the world, but now we're getting fewer DLC's than any of their HD games outside of ME 1 & DA 2.

Makes me think EA is doing DA 2 all over again by killing a major DLC in lieu of making a new game b/c another WRPG is greatly outselling their game (Skyrim in 2011 & Witcher 3 now.)

There's just too much of a high bar set by DLC like Lair of The Shadow Broker, isn't there?   I think that was the pinnacle of Bioware DLC between DA, DA2, ME, ME2 and ME3.

That DLC looks cool, and wow, it's coming so soon!

I'm not really feeling the Descent DLC. The story is fine but I'm getting super tired of 15 minutes fights against enemies with 95 million HP. And even worse, they love to spawn infinite minions until the boss is dead.

Whoa, now this is this dlc I've been waiting for! I haven't played the others yet, but I want dive into JoH next week to get ready for Trespasser. Based on some of the feedback I've heard I may skip Descent.

I've been a Kotaku fan for a while.  Most of their articles are well done.  But the comments attract a special breed of internet cretin, that's for sure.

I think I'm done with this DLC. The boss one-shots my entire party within seconds of the battle starting. This is on Casual, with level 27 characters. I don't even know what this game wants from me right now.

That just blows. I don't understand this at all. JoH was difficult as it was, but getting creamed at level 27? F that.

Reading people's strategies online, it pretty much feels like they balanced the boss around waaay OP Knight-Enchanter and Tempest builds, and as a Reaver I'm just fucked. That might even be understandable on Nightmare or something, but on Casual? Come on. Any build should be capable of putting up a fight against the boss.

On Casual, yes, you should be able to put up some kind of fight. At Level 27, especially so.

Guess I'm on the right track since I'm a K-E and will bring Vivienne with me when I do that DLC.

Shrike she'll be the first one to die because the AI can't keep up with the damage she'll take.

At least that's how it was for me.

I'm more concerned with 2 things:

1. The Hawke thread
2. This being the last greenlit game/DLC for the Dragon Age Universe. Another medieval WRPG outsells DA so EA throws in the towel?

Citadel is a close second but yeah those are the cream of the crop. Lady Insanity told me Bioware said they will never do an "Awakening-sized" expansion ever again.

Which is sad to hear considering the 2nd Witcher 3 expansion has a new map the size of all of Witcher 2.

If that's the case, then I guess I'll bring along Solas and let him hang out in the back.
She's really helpful in the grind to the boss, but the boss is designed so poorly you can only rely on yourself to take it down.

If you fail once I suggest turning down/off the capability for the AI to use health potions & save them for yourself.

I was able to do it on the 2nd attempt but had there been a 3rd I was going to hoard the potions for me.

Can't remember specifically but I think I recall reading that David Gaider moved from lead writer on Dragon Age onto BioWare's next new IP, and one of the Mass Effect writers replaced him as lead writer on the Dragon Age series. This was well after Inquisition was released, so presumably that new lead writer is busy writing something. ;)

Another title that doesn't get an expansion. DA2 was supposed to get one but they canceled it. This one appears to never had one planned...I wonder if the sales just aren't there compared to the first for them to consider it or they're just being cheap and prefer to stick to a few DLC segments? The first one also had the most DLC too as well as the mentioned expansion.

Well I'm going to have to run through the rest of the game unpatched this weekend as the new DA patch severely nerfs damage by Knight Enchanters.

It'll probably be me.  I think it looks great and I have the MS points for it.  Only thing(s) holding me back are that I'm working on DI 3.0, Gears Ultimate and Destiny has new content coming out.  Not sure when I'd have the time for Dragon Age at the moment.

Who's going to be the guinea pig on it?

I claim "not it" since I'm not done with my game yet. :whistle2:$
Yeah, I was kinda wanting to wait until some impressions were out. Feeling a little gunshy after not enjoying The Descent particularly much. I'll probably pick it up soon though.

I bought it, but only downloaded so far. I'll be hopefully playing some tonight.

Finished Descent two days ago. I guess you guys set me up for disappointment, but I had fun with it despite how short it was. I really would have liked to have seen something a little different with the final area beyond the 'kill groups of bad guys on the way to the ending', but I liked the dungeon design and the story well enough. Just felt like this should have been half of a bigger DLC, either as a main dungeon in a smaller overworld area or by having some element of the story in Orzammar similar to the Winter Palace - especially around what appears to be a revisionist history conspiracy. Still, I don't feel like I was wasting my time playing it.

Also, my dagger rogue had zero issues with the final boss. Took about three minutes playing on normal with Sera, Viv and Blackwall as backup.

I haven't finished the DLC (I'm between the two bosses mentioned), but I concur for the most part with the article. I don't have an issue with the Mark thing, but maybe what happens next will change my mind?

Some things I would note:

1) The DLC adds new game mechanics. Either that, or I was oblivious to them while finishing up Descent last week. Unfortunately, I think they are kind of pointless in the end game. One of the new mechanics are optional modifiers reminiscent of Halo skulls, each with an attached achievement you cannot actually accomplish in the DLC (one makes bears super strong, but there are no bears in Trespasser). There are also rune-equivalents for armor, but every single one I found were of the "get this bonus at the expense of this other stat" variety. Haven't used a single one - though it looks like some of the lieutenant enemies are using them.

2) Don't burn through healing options when you find the purple fire. You'll get something to deal with it towards the end of that area.

3) One character might be glitched for me. They had nothing to say to me in the first round of companion conversations, and in at least three bigger fights, they just stood there and did nothing until I Assumed Control. Swapping back to my PC, they participated as expected. I am specifically not mentioning a name, because it could theoretically be story related that it is intentional - a decision made in the main game can have a major consequence in this story.

4) You can spend a lot of time with collectibles in the hub area. (So weird that I specifically mentioned wanting something like the Winter Palace and ended up getting pretty much exactly that.) Again, the rewards are kind of pointless at this point in the game. One of the sets is unnecessarily annoying. Did I collect them all? Yes, yes I did.

5) New weapons are underpowered - more akin to the Banana-On-A-Stick in that they are going for more a fun vibe over power. The new armor, however, got me to change my PC from the armor style she has been rocking for pretty much the whole game.

6) Accessories are where the new power lies. There are quite a few new items, including a four piece set you collect in areas off the main quest path that grants additional bonuses the more of it you wear.

7) If you are really into the ancient lore of Thedas, there is a lot here.

Overall, I'm having fun and recommend it. Unless the ending completely goes off course, I would rate this the better of the three story DLC.

Thanks for the impressions and write up guys.
I don't know when I'll ever get to download this, ahhhhh road trip to the city it's a must it seems.
