New 3DS Animal Crossing Edition/New 3DS XL Hyrule Gold Edition, & Aqua Blue Vita @ GS

Knowing my luck I'd just blow more dust under the thing.
That is very possible, so when you use the air, you can't sit around and let the dust settle. It's a fine line between perfection, and utter failure. LOL

I would also recommend "wet" installs for those who have dust issues, but those require way more work and effort. I actually use full body Skinomi "wet" skins over my whole device, and then Hori, or some other manufacturer for the screen protection. Sometimes the "wet" skins aren't as clear as they could be, so I use dry there, but the full body protectors are awesome for preventing little nicks and scratches elsewhere on your device.

I loathe wet installs. Tried them on my phone before, just a bubbly linty mess.

It's an aquired skill no doubt, and patience is a MUST. I love "wet" installs, I've actually got my Skinomi N3DS full body matte skin waiting in the wings for installation, but I probably won't have time to do it until some time next week.

The overall finish is great when done properly, and is way more durable and long lasting over the "dry" installs.

I've long stopped putting screen protectors on my phones. The glass tech is at the point where it will not scratch unless you have them in the same pocket as your keys. The 3DS screens however...aren't the most expensive screens. The touch panel especially is so prone to scratching that I will put on screen protectors.

I just wish they were easy to find in America right now but basically no one is selling them. I just bought one on ebay but its coming from China so it will take 2 weeks to get here.

I'm sorry...why, exactly?
Because I'm fed about with the both of them dicking around when it comes to their handhelds.

Sony should be addressing the stupidly high price tag of the Vita memory cards, and perhaps at least TRY to release some more solid first party titles to help get the sales ball rolling (though granted at this point it may be too late) on what is otherwise a fantastic handheld, but instead of worrying about any of that they.... release some new colors. *face palm* Glad to know their priorities are in the right place. It wouldn't be so bad if the colors looked good but they look like shit.

Nintendo decided that North America "didn't need" the regular size New 3DS (forgot the exact dry as fuck official corporate wording), and I kept holding off because not only did I 1) not want an XL 3DS, and 2) when I did give in and rationalize a New 3DS XL, they go and release two colors I don't give a damn about. So I waited for new colors, preferably the sexy blue that just about the rest of the entire gaming world got, but nothing was heard for some time so I bit the bullet and got a black New 3DS XL a month ago. Now Nintendo releases the regular size New 3DS.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF fuck -_________-*

I know to use tape, but tape is what screwed me up this time...I think what's under the protector right now is some of the residue from the adhesive on the tape. Thankfully it pretty much disappears when the system is on, so I'll be able to ignore it for a little while.
I've had that problem before. I found that by using Scotch 3M tape I have been able to greatly reduce the risk of tape residue. I'm using Matte Finish Magic Tape (not sure if that part makes a difference). When I used generic Office Depot tape I had residue guaranteed every time. Also compressed air helped me for any stray fibers/lint.

At first it was tough to get used to a smaller screen compared to my XL, but I'm really liking this smaller system. I've got my KK Slider cover plates on that I'm really happy with how they look on it and the portability size of the system is great. Also I never realized how good the 3D was on the "new" systems.

I hope Nintendo release a redesign New 3DS XL with interchangeable cover plates.
They should have done that from the start, as I think they would have done better with the plates there, then with the standard unit. Either way, it's to late the cycle for them to even bother. I think they are just about done with the 3DS, and I don't even believe it will get another version, or big change before they move on to the next big thing.

Saw this on Playasia, I must resist the urge

Also wow I'm pissed. Finally unwrapped the N3DS to put my protectors on and find out theres a huge spec of dust or something under the screen right near the middle......this thing is going right back to Gamestop tomorrow.
I made the same mistake years ago when the Vita launched. I spend gobs of time perfectly instally my full body skin protector, only to notice the system had touch screen issues and had to be returned. My my protector, and much time was wasted.

Now, I do a very thorough test of the whole device before installing any skins. I check the touch screen, look for dead pixels, head phone jack, speakers, wi-fi, all buttons, mic, etc. I haven't had the issue since, but you never know, so it's always good to check the whole device before hand. I just got this N3DS on Friday as well, and not telling when I'll get my skin installed, as I have to check everything first, and just haven't had the time.

So is that just a top plate? Even still, that's a pretty awesome faceplate. I'm really tempted to order it too.

I really wish I knew if NoA was planning on releasing any other plates aside from what's on the website now. The Goomba and OR/AS (especially the Goomba one) plates are calling to me but I don't want to pay the inflated price to import.

NCSX here in the states will have this soon as well, should be some time this week. http://www.shopncsx.com/retroplateandwatch.aspx

Who knows what NoA will end up selling? What they have now is pretty much the most basic ones, and really not that great compared to what you can import. They might also be testing the waters to see what may or may not sale. Either way, if your looking to get a specific one, I would import, as it just doesn't seem like NoA cares all that much.

Normally, Hori has accessories for new systems at launch, but the fact they they aren't offering cases or screen protectors here in the states, tells me NoA hasn't done much to promote this smaller model, and I don't see that changing. Importing for anything "cool" seems the current way to go. Waiting on NoA to do anything cool anymore is normally a HUGE disappointment.

Part of me needs one just for the colorful buttons.

Everything went better than expected. Went to the store, either the guy didnt feel like dealing with my craziness, or he noticed it as well and he did a swap. I told him I already used the AC:HHD code, and he just said "Meh".

So I got a second copy lol. Got my Screen Protectors applied perfectly and everything (I still hate Touch Screen ones....they never fill the bottom screen). This one really feels better in my hands than the XL ever did

Want to sell it for $15 or $20 :D

OK you guys...I'm about to break myself and pick up one of these n3DS systems w/ AC...someone convince me that it's worth it!

To make up that cost, I can trade my MH4 XL to Amazon for $270. Lol...I'd get my monies back! Good idea?

Funny thing: MH4 XL has a looser hinge than my red n3DS XL.

Don't do it. Wait for $179.99 standalone!

The form factor really makes it nice to carry around with out feeling like you have a laptop in your pocket. As stupid as it may sound, being given the option to choose how your N3DS looks like is enticing in a "I get to spend more money" kind of way. ACHHD is actually fun in spurts. I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying the game, even with it being stripped down to bare none compared to the main series. The music is really good in it and the direction that the main series may go is promising. If they allow us to pick and choose where we can put our neighbors in the future, it will really help with not getting screwed over on the random "pick as I please" way now.

You'll get over the smaller screen size pretty fast, but at first it is noticeable. In the end it's up to you, but you can't go wrong with the buy if you have money to spend for it.

Happy Home Designer is a delightful game. If you like Animal Crossing, it's a no-brainer.

I picked up an Animal Crossing N3DS bundle a couple days ago, and the system had a LOT of friction on the analog slider. It's softened up with a bit of use, but when sliding to the right and slightly downwards there's kind of a weird catch there, and sort of a slight scraping feeling as you slide it. Anyone else have this? Or if you've experienced it on an older 3DS, did it go away over time? I've owned a 3DS and 3DS XL before, but neither of them had this much friction out of the box, so it's hard to know whether it will go away.

Just double checking for those in the know; do you new AC n3ds owners have TN panel top screens?  Supposedly n3ds only have TN panels vs XL's with somewhat of a lottery for TN or IPS but it would be cool to see if IPS is available for the small systems.

If i'm not mistaken you can transfer those pre installed games you just have to have made your account on that system properly when you set it up and it could be either added to an existing account or made sure it gets added to a new one.
I was able to transfer my MK 7 to the Persona Q XL with no issues, just followed the directions for the transfer on the Nintendo website.

I think this TN vs IPS thing has gotten a bit overblown recently.

My New 3DS decided to give me a scare. I was playing HHD and it came up and said an error occurred and to shut the system down. When I turned it back on the SD card wouldn't read. After I took the card out and back in it worked fine but it scared me

The card probably wasn't in all the way, and that caused the error.

How is that case/pouch you bought for the n3ds working out for you?
Well, I didn't buy it specifically for the N3DS, I was using with my O3DS for months now, but I was hopeful that the N3DS would fit in it, and it does. I actually ordered a spare while they were inexpensive on Amazon.

I noticed the usual "bottom screen frame marking the top screen" for the first time today, so I'll have to start cramming a microfiber cloth in there like I used to with my O3DS.

I really don't think the 3d is worse on the xl. Anyway I will keep my new 3ds xl for now and maybe get a regular new 3ds once goes on sale.

PS: speaking of which, I bought my new xl 2 months ago during that sale where you could price match Kmart nd get if for 100bucks.mine came with a small stuck pixel on upper screen, on the edge . initially it did not bother, but my ocd kicked in and I sent the system to Nintendo. Sent Tuesday afternoon and they already shipped back today, amazing. It should be here Wednesday. They never called me, so I guess they replaced the screen instead of sending another unit correct? I prefer having the same unit since it has full body skin and screen protectors. Impressed with Nintendo warranty, really fast

Well I can't believe it but somehow I came home today with a new 3DS AC HHD bundle. Guess I might compare how it...holds up. Pun intended kinda...

Looks like my MH4 and red 3DS XL are both IPS since the viewing angles are excellent on the top screens...

It's a 3DS, not a TV. you're not going to be viewing it from any angle but straight-on, especially if you're using the stereoscopic display.

Very true. I finally put both side by side. It's pretty interesting I must say. Yes the IPS give better viewing angles...but by the time you truly notice the degradation of the picture, it's already uncomfortable to view anyway.

Colors are a touch better on the XL; the regular one looks sharper since the XL happens to be the exact resolution of the original one.

I love how the faceplates are not glossy so during normal wear and tear I won't worry about, "oh dear look at that little scratch on the finish." Also the faceplate covers the S/N keeping that safer than the XL...it's not going to protect it from water...well nothing will without a case anyway.

Colored buttons are very nice to look at. BTW do you notice a very slight tint change when switching between 3D and normal viewing modes on the regular n3DS? It's interesting. Nothing terrible, just interesting.

I really hate the power button on the XL. A lot of times while handling the thing I wind up powering it up when I didn't want to or hit the button by accident and cause the 3DS game to close down. Derp! The small n3DS has a lot of resistance to it so only deliberate presses will register.

The biggest asset aside from the faceplates is that it is so much lighter than the XL. This will make it easier on me for long play sessions...as long as my not-so-sharp eyes allow them. At the right distance, the small one is fine I think.

The biggest weakness for me is that my hands are average in length, but are thicker than the average male hands. This contributes to cramping my thumb if I want to access the D-Pad while holding onto the small n3DS in a normal fashion. Placing my palm off of the left side at a 50 degree angle seems to solve that...I'll just need to put a strap on my arm so if I lose grip it won't fall to the ground.

So overall it's a very cool and welcome addition to the 3DS lineup. I enjoy it (but feel a little guilty at paying the stupid price tag). I guess I better lay off of the "treat myself" thing for awhile...until Tales of Zestria comes out, haha!

But it does leave one question: I really don't need 3 n3DSs...what do I do with that MH4 XL that's mothballed? Hmm...

Cover Plate Set 023 just arrived this morning and I took a few snapshots. For those of you looking for an all-white system, this is probably the closest thing you can get officially at the moment, assuming you like Mario & Co.

The Smash Plates are basically the same. Except the character outlines kind of have a sparkly glimmer if you see it at angles.

How does the regular n3ds compare to the original non xl 3ds?

Did you import? I know Nintendo's store has plates online put seems kinda fast shipping if you did.

If anyone is wondering, the AC:HHD bundle n3ds has the faceplates # 013 and 062

I might just hold off on getting a n3ds if these plates come back in stock.

I bought them from a seller on Amazon, so technically imported.
