CAG Niche Backloggers Anonymous (Monster Hunter World!) [February]

Just wanted to say, thanks for all the help so far, the advice really helped clear things up for me! The sword and shield are great now, I've been doing way better with it.

I got quite a few more questions, but I'll make them short and concise this time.

1) So I've been mainly choosing armor based on how it looks on my waifu. Is this the right approach, since I've kept the starter helmet since the beginning cause it looks the best. Is this how most of the game will be like, or will there eventually be drastic differences in armor capabilities that force me to change?

2) Is there a life bar for the monsters you are tracking? I notice the tiny heart rate monitor near the minimap, but it doesn't seem to indicate any actual progress. I also see the skull icon on the monster, but that doesn't happen until much later in the fight.

3) I am guessing for the hunting missions (even hunting monsters you previously killed) you still have to track their footprints first right? That's pretty much routine? Find the first set of footprints, have scoutflies track them, then hunt them? Seems a little mundane to have to do it each time, especially when a map starts filling up with monsters, and you already have high research levels. Or does the monster icon automatically appear on the map when your monster research level is max or something?

4) Someone mentioned a lobby where you can see other people's characters? I know you can't in the base, and the official MP video didn't say anything. Would be cool to interact with others before the missions.

5) What do research points do besides use them for the botanist ancient tree and buy fertilizer?

6) I'm starting to get side missions telling me to capture monsters. Will there eventually be a story mission and tutorial on capturing them, or do I figure this out myself?

7) So for multiplayer, I understand that the more players a mission the more difficult it is and the stronger the monster. What if I set the player count to 4, but play the mission alone? Is it still harder? Or does it stay the same as soloing since no one joined?

8) When I do gathering quests/slay small monsters quests, on the map it shows me on the pre-quest screen, it changes a bit. Like for the vespiod one it shows where the vespiods are. But when I start the mission, the symbols are no longer there, and I don't even see the vespiods when I go to those areas. So what's that about?

That's all there is for now. Thank you very much for the help.
1. Once you get to high rank, you will be choosing based on armor skills that will compliment your weapon. It can be a complete solo armor set or a mix of pieces from other armors. Low rank is basically, whatever floats your boat because those armors don't really have any skill sets or decorations to start creating armor tailored to you.

2. No health bar, but people starting out will use the map on the lower left to see what condition the monster is in via little signs (exhausted, pursuit, etc). There are advanced ways to tell though without the map though.

3. Yep, but eventually you hunt enough to learn where they live and their map pattern. They all stick to the same one so it becomes easier to just check those spots. As for the monster icon being on the screen, no because the research on the monster is different from the guide flies done through tracking.

Research done by capturing or killing the monster tells you about the monster itself (weak points, elements, item drops). The guide flies eventually fade over time as you learn new monsters because you are training them to learn other new monsters. So eventually, they will forget the old ones until you build their tracking/scent by tracking them again.

4. In HQ, go to the lift and choose "gathering hall." However, rarely anyone goes up there. You can do arm wrestling on the barrel or have a beer on the table.

5. Research points allows you purchase a multitude of things once you get far enough such as dispatching teams to safari, using to trade for other items, pay for food, and unlock other gadgets.

6. You need to play an optional mission where it says "capture." It will give you a very brief tutorial. You can also press start > info > play guide to review any and all tutorials.

7. There are only two difficulties: SP and MP health. If you play solo, it will always stay at SP health until one other person joins. Once that happens, the health is increased by 2.6x regardless of how many other players come in. Monster behavior does not change though.

8. Small creatures are marked on the map and if not, then I believe you haven't killed them enough for them to be filled out into the map yet.

Thanks for the answering those questions! Exactly the answers I was looking for.

I'm a lot more comfortable with the game now, and begun exploring other things like investigations and optional quests. Even begun hunting previous monsters just to get new equipment. I do still have a few questions, although these might be a little more difficult/weird to answer.

1) When capturing a monster, how do you know when to lay out the trap and use tranq bombs? The tutorial says when they start limping, or when the little death symbol is near their map icon, but I find it hard to spot. Any other good indicators?

2) When you upgrade a weapon, the ingredients needed have a little icon next to the ??? item needed. I'm guessing that corresponds to the monster you get it from? So the red 8 bit symbol is a part form Anjanath I haven't gotten yet? How do I know the ingredients I need specifically? Do I need to have a higher HR rank?

3) Do I increase HR rank from just story missions, or do anything optional quests/investigations/SOS contribute? Since it only seems to go up when I do the story missions, and doing a ton of optional hunts don't level me up.

4) What is the weapon stat "affinity"? I could probably look this up online, but is there a guide in the game that will tell you?

5) When I eat before/at the beginning of a mission, the food gives me a health boost. But if I faint, and I try to use the canteen, none of the food gives me a health boost. Any reason for that?

6) Also, is there a reason why the stat buffs from the food differs like every mission? Sometimes I get +20 heath, then +30, then +40.

7) I was trying out some ranged weapons to fight the flying monsters easier. So I settled on the light bowgun. But why does it seem the damage is so low? Even when compared to the same node on the upgrade chart as the melee weapons. I know it's safer to use, but I'm only getting damage values of 1s. Plus, some of the light bowguns have magazine capacities of only 3 bullets, which is such a hassle to reload. I put the customization on too. Am I missing something here, or is the light bowgun supposed to be that weak?

Again, thanks so much for the help!

1) I don't think you can tell if they never leave the area and limp around. I accidentally killed a hunt (doggo) yesterday because it never limped or showed the skull.

2) Means you haven't discovered that monster yet. It'll unlock as you progress.

3) Story missions until you're done with the story. Then everything you've done contributes, so you may skip 20 HR levels when you're done.

4) Crit (both positive and negative crit damage). Looking at the damage calculations, 1 affinity is very very roughly 0.25 attack. There's other factors, but you should ignore it and go for raw damage for now.

5/6) No idea the real reason. You can always use a max potion if you really need the HP buffer.

7) A) Don't use normal ammo. B) There's a range you have to be at, shown by your aiming reticle having two orange circles instead of one. C) Use slicing and poison. Spread 1 when you get further and with specific guns, but the range is almost melee. I fall back to Pierce 3 or 2 when I'm completely out of slicing. I also use paralyze / exhaust / demon, but those are more for multiplayer assists. I stacked 3x Releads on mine, and I'm aiming for maxed parts damage.

I finished all the main stories and the two final battles for Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus. I'll count that as finishing the game, but I haven't done the side missions yet. I'll come back to the game later to do them and go for the platinum. These games are fun, but the gameplay starts to wear thin if you start grinding it.

I was thinking of playing either Nier Automata or Mafia III for my next game, but then a couple days ago Dare To Be Stupid came up during shuffle play. Now I want to play Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

1. There will be a lot of times; especially "tempered monsters," where they will not show those signs. It's due to them being in permanent aggro mode. Anyway, all the monsters kind of have a few tells that let you know where their health is at. Such as Anjanath secreting far more salvia over time or the direction Kobi-Tadachi's hair is lowered versus spiked even if aggro. Just stuff like that.

2. If the ingredient has "???," then you have not fought the monster that has those items yet. Sometimes, it can just be items out in the world that you gather.

3. Your HR is capped until you finish the story. After that you increase it by doing missions. The harder the mission, the greater your XP will be when leveling.

4. Affinity is how much damage your weapons will likely do beyond the main base damage stat and is a vital part of the game. Just make sure it's not negative affinity and you will be fine.

5. You can only eat every 10 minutes and the health boost is only granted the first time. If you pick the same meal again, the effects for everything else will be a lot less than the first time.

6. It picks the freshest ingredients that you have unlocked at the cantina. Those fresh ingredients always change every mission which means the effects will always be different. Additionally, do missions that specifically say they unlock ingredients. You can also fish or gather items on your own to add more ingredients to the Canteen and gain stronger effects.

I can't answer 7 properly since I don't use any ranged weapons.

Thanks again for the answers! Here's another batch, and they are even more difficult.

1) Is the Max Health before armor stat boosts 150? It seems to be the limit I hit when I use a mega nutrients + food, but then any armor with a health buff I get some more added on top of that.

2) What are challenge quests? Are they the 2 person time limit quests in the gathering hub? Since the Street Fighter V event missions seem to be challenge quests or something.

3) When a weapon has an elemental stat on it, does it add onto the damage of the weapon, or is it somehow averaged, or is that just the elemental damage done? For example, my weapon has base 190 attack, but then 150 thunder damage. So is it 150 on top of 190, or is the 150 a separate thing not related to damage?

4) This has to do with the previous question. So why is the dragon element weapons so much weaker for the base state. It's like 140 base damage, but the dragon damage is 300. So does the dragon damage add onto the base damage, or is it just for elemental attacks or something (like when you use the shield to attack a monster and there's no element damage on it.)

5) What exactly is the Kinsect? I can't find a way to equip them in the training area.

As always, thanks again for the help!

Oh yeah, my light bowgun also doesn't allow slicing ammo. Is it a huge deal and a game changer? Because I always feel if I use just one type of ammo, I end up exhausting my supply fast, and also it's hard to keep stocking up on that one type of berry.

If it's a game changer, then I might have to swap to a different bowgun. But the problem is, the other ones either don't have much capacity for the ammo magazine sizes, or they have lower base damage. The one I use allows 6 normal bullets, and has the highest base damage of it's tier.

Also, I guess normal ammo is bad? I always use the infinite one just to not waste ammo, then switch to normal ammo 2 sometimes if I need to do some more damage. I always feel like I waste and run through the other ammo like piercing, elemental, status, and sticky ammo super fast, and the magazine capacity is low, so I have to keep reloading. I think I'm playing the light bowgun wrong though, since I always take too long to kill stuff, and I do little to no damage.

Edit: I have a hard time using the special wyvernblast ammo too, as its hard to have them stay still and use it. I was gonna play the heavy bowgun class, since there's a minigun special ammo thing, but the upgraded classes gives me the sniper ammo thing which I feel isnt as good. And the heavy bowgun also seems to be too slow to walk around with and reload.

3 & 4)

They're separate calculations. LBG is (attack / 1.3) * (monster armor) * (ammo modifier) * (quest modifer). Elemental is (elemental / 10) * (0.75) * (monster armor) * (quest modifer). Monster armor is a bit counter intuitive, since the higher the more damage you deal. It's pretty complicated.

General rule of thumb is raw damage for slower weapons, elemental for faster weapons, because elemental damage scales better with faster weapons. So LGB with elemental rapid fire is probably better for elemental, and raw for everything else.

5) Insect Glaive weapon "ammo".

Oh yeah, my light bowgun also doesn't allow slicing ammo.
Slicing ammo is the best DPS for LBG, outside of specific elemental cases. Normal ammo is the absolute worst, and not worth using (except against insects).

Just plant a bunch of slashberries with fertilizer. I stashed like 1k berries in my chest in a day. And buy a bunch of slicing ammo from the NPC. Like another 1k (15k coins).

I also grew a ton of stuff for gunpowder 2 and 3.

Wyvernblast is great. There's two ways to use it. When a monster gets knocked down, you can run to it, plant them, and melee to set them off. The other is to set them near you, and have the monster charge at it. This does more damage, but it's less safe and more usable in solo than multiplayer.

One last piece of advice, Reload +1 and Reload +2 means you can move while reloading, while +3 and +4 you can't. Recoil is roughly the same. Recoil +4 means you're only moving backwards after you fire. Set your LBG enhancements to account for what you want with the ammo you want to use. For slice, Reload is the most useful.

Edit: I lied. Odog gun tree is the best general LBG.

Thanks for the explanation on the LBGs! But for the elemental damage thing, I was thinking more of the vast differences in the melee weapons. How some weapons have low base stats and high elemental damage, and others have them relatively even. I guess base damage is for the shield attacks, and elemental damage is for the sword attacks? Or does some of the base damage account for the sword attacks too? Or is elemental damage something entirely different?

Yeah, I guess from now on, I'll start hoarding slash berries and using the slashing ammo. I'll resort to piercing and elemental if I run out. And normal I'll use as a last resort.

How do I equip/use the kinsect glaive? I don't seem to have it in my equipment. Do I have to buy/forge one?

1. 150 is the base max. The only way to increase even further are with gems up to 200.
2. Exactly that. You can also play them solo if you want in the gathering hub.

3. This is where it gets iffy. Raw attack and elements do not combine at all, but form a separate damage on it's own. The numbers you see when you hit in the game when using an element weapon are modifers used to inflate the attack value. This is complicated by strike zones, element weakness, critical, sharpness, and actual attack value.

Example) If base is 200 and element is 80, then the increase will be an extra 8 damage from the element assuming the monster is weak to it. Then you add weakpoint, sharpness, and everything else for the real value.

5. Taking what I said in (4), some monsters are weak to the dragon element. It's also the strongest element lore wise so it gets special treatment over the others by having more of it's element involved. It can be seen as situational.

6. Kinsect are the bugs you have to "grow" in the armory just like armor/weapons.

Anyway, I'm going to be on the 1.04 patch for a bit so I can keep duplicating decorations. :D/

MHW Tip

Buy the Powercharm/Armorcharm from the vendor if you have enough to spend.

If you are further in the game and able to kill Bazelgeuse, the talons are what you want.

Powercharm + Bazelgeuse Talons = Powertalon

Armorcharm + Bazelgeuse Talons = Armortalon

You can stack both charms and talons to increase your Attack and Defense.

No Charms/Talons

213 ATK

329 DEF

Powercharm/Armorcharm

221 ATK

341 Def

Powercharm/Armorcharm/Powertalon/Armortalon

I beat Zorah recently and reached HR 10, so thanks for all the help! It really paid off!

A few more questions/advice.

1) Is it me or is the Vitality Garb super weak? I put it on, then it gets destroyed after 1-2 hits. The healing thing seems so much more useful.

2) What are wigglers? I need to kill them for a quest or something.

3) For the limited investigations where it says "hunt the specified monsters" and it only shows 1 monster, but it needs me to do it 3 times, I just hunt the same monster 3 times right?

4) There's this item in the shop, Power/Armor charm. It tells me to carry it to get the boost. So all I need is to keep it in my item bag right, I don't need to equip it like a charm? Or is it a charm? Wanted to make sure before I buy it.

5) Some weapons have a greyed out elemental stat on it, with a parenthesis on the stat. Like Paralysis (180), and it doesn't show up active after I craft them. How do I enable these elements on the weapons?

6) Can someone explain the charge blade to me? I use the sword mode first right? Then after using it too much, it becomes red and the attacks bounce off. Then I switch to axe mode which should be stronger now? And if I empty the vials I get to reuse my sword mode? The 5 vials also kind of confuse me.

7) Also, can someone explain the kinsect blade to me too? I got the part with the sword, just summoning the kinsects confuse me. So I have 3 of them? Since on the bar, it shows me 3 slots. Then I could either press R2 and let them do their own thing, or hold L2 to aim them? And then I can recall them, or have them harvest stuff, or attack an enemy? Because when I try using them, sometimes they don't come back, and other times they just do their own thing and attack when they want to.

And as always, thanks again!

1) It's good as extra health. I did get one-shotted with full HP and Vitality cloak by a tempered Nergigante, but that's another story. In general, it saves me from mistakes.

3 & 4) Yes

5) You need the Free Element skill lvl 1-3 to release them.

1. It's one of the most used garbs in the game. It can help you learn a monster or survive hits that would otherwise kill you.

2. Wigglers are the worms you see in the coral area that stick up from the ground.

3. Yep.

4. Buy and carry them with you at all times. The bonuses will not work if you put them in a box.

5. You need an awakening gem or a corresponding armor set in order to activate those hidden elements.

6. In the series, the charge blade is one of the most complicated weapons to use. You build phials in sword mode until the guage reaches red. Then you load that into the axe when you transform from sword mode. After that, you can continue to load the phials again like before as ammo in sword mode or save them for a SAED attack in axe mode. SAED is an attack which disperses all the phials into a hard slam which is the weapon's most powerful attack. You can also use them in axe mode via elemental dishcharge which will consume one phial per swing. It does extra damage. You can always switch to sword mode whenever you want, but the primary damage will be in axe mode and discharging the phials.

7. With the Insect Glaive, your supposed to have your bugs extract essence from the monster's four sections in order to power up your glaive. You aim and send them to a specific part of the monster you mark then have them extract the essence back. Or you can have them attack the monster for a bit or disperse a cloud which will perform an effect based on what area you hit. You can always recall them back, just look at the controls in the upper right if you have the show control option on to see what you can do after every action.

Quick question about armor. Which is considered better in general A or B?
It entirely depends on what you feel you need from the set. Alpha sets generally have less decoration/gem slots and more built-in equipment bonuses while the Beta sets generally have more decoration/gem slots and less built-in equipment bonuses. You can mix and match between the two and should focus only on obtaining the equipment bonuses that are useful to you. If an alpha piece has a bonus that is useless but replaced with a decoration/gem slot on the beta piece, then by all means go with the beta piece.

Thankfully the alpha and beta sets don't look that different, so they can mix and match fairly well aesthetically. You could probably get set bonuses from two different sets as well if they're useful towards you so long as you don't mind looking like a clown/hobo.

You'll probably end up with the eyepatch for your head slot though, which is a singular non-set piece. It's too useful to not to use it in most cases.

Go A if you don't have any decorations for your build. Otherwise B if you do. If you plan on playing the game for awhile, then just go for B.

If you plan on playing the game for awhile, might as well go A? You'll have enough mats to make B later anyways. I have a lot of pieces I can't use cause my decorations all suck.

Edit: I take that back. I have 2 ok decorations.

Yeah like everyone said, A has more/better skills, while B has 2 decoration slots.

But from what I've noticed, and personal preference, B armor looks better aesthetically. But mostly mix and match is the way to go, especially when the multi-armor skills work with pieces from either sets I think.

So, I'm starting to get bored of the Sword & Shield, even though it's an amazing weapon and helped me solo a bunch of monsters I didn't think I stood a chance against.

Any other recommendations for easy-ish beginner weapons? I've tried Light Bow Gun and Insect Glaive, neither of which really stuck with me.

The lance, gunlance, or long sword. Lance allows you defend while poking the monster and can be built really well into constant evasion poking. Gunlance has the same idea, but more so if you want to shoot. Mobility is taken away in favor of shelling attacks though. Long sword is the much more simple version of the Charged Blade and Switch Axe. Just attack until the spirit gauge fills up the and then use spirit attacks for more powerful swings.

Thanks! I'm a bit hesitant about the long sword and gunlance since they seem kinda slow to me. But I'll definitely try the normal lance out if I have some more mobility with it.

Does anyone here have the Ryu arena quest available? I'm looking for someone to host the quest for the armor/background.

Also, the Deep Green Blues event has a good chance for crowns. Besides the posts I've read, I've gotten 2 small gold crowns, and 1 giant gold crown after just two runs. *Update: In less than 8 runs, I have all the event monsters' small crowns.   :D/

Welp, so I tried fighting Pink Rathian and got completely destroyed, I think this is the first time I've actually hit a wall and become stuck in this game.

I guess I can grind up some armor spheres and upgrade that, and maybe get some better armor, since I'm already using the highest tier of weapon I can reach.

Is it weak to the same elements a normal Rathian is? Because my research level isn't high enough to check, and maybe an elemental advantage can help me out.

Also, I started using the gunlance and I kinda like it. But one thing is that, I can reload the ammo and big shells with the quick reload. But it tells me I have to reload wyvernblast with normal reload? How do I initiate a normal reload, since it doesn't give me an option for it. Or does that move just reloads automatically after a long time?

And sometimes it lets me hold down O to charge my shot or something, but I can't seem to do it from idle position. That part has me confused.

I haven't checked but you just need Street Fighter V save data right? Which I have. But I don't have the Arcade Edition save data, and I sold my game a while ago, so I'm outta luck if that's what I need.

I sent you a SS of it's weaknesses before I looked over it myself to compare. The regular Rathian and Pink one share the same ones. Both are most weak to Dragon and Stun followed by Thunder, Paralysis, and Sleep.

I believe it's R2 + O that reloads the Wyrmstake Cannon from the beta controls. As for the other thing, all I remember is holding down O charges your shells after a lance attack.

The site says SFV Arcade data, but people have reported the vanilla save works too. You can always check in the Gathering Hub and see if the quest, "Down the Dark, Muddy Path" shows up in Arena.

Btw, the arena is different. Your forced to use predetermined loadouts with junk gear to face monsters. Also, their health is always set to MP even if your playing alone.

What are these crowns you speak of? I don't think I am up to that level yet, but I don't wanna miss it if it's an event thing.

When you kill or capture a monster, you have a chance to get it's crown. You can check them in the monster section of your guild card or visit the research guy by the mountain of books. Minature crowns are gold only, but large can be silver (useless) or gold.

You know that giant Barroth we fought in the Ryu event? That was a large gold crown version.

Ah you mean the size of the monster! Like if it exceeds a certain size you get a gold crown for it. I think there's a trophy for getting a crown for every monster. Well now I gotta take advantage of this, when does the event end?

How does the Blast element work? It's just a status affliction right? The more damage I inflict, the more blast builds up and eventually the monster will explode? And the higher my blast stat is, the quicker it builds up and the more damage it does?

Yep. Also, the monster's resistance raises every time the status effect procs. Which means the next threshold will be even higher than before when it was first activated.

I started playing Nier: Automata. I'm enjoying it, but it's funny how little I knew what the game is actually like. Pretty much all I knew about the game was from the demo. I thought it was going to be a linear action game. I heard bits about there being multiple endings and side quests, so I did start to think there were RPG elements to it. I'm a few hours in. I left off first being able to go to bed.

As I played things kept popping up that made me smile. The tone of the NPCs. Even when they are just text. Being able to fully remap the controls. Weapons being able to be set as the light or heavy attack. E-mails keeping a record of the real-world time you received them.

And what really got me excited was when I took a closer look at how chipsets work. Managing space and fusing chips to make stronger chips. That's some of what I loved from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Revelations 2 raid mode.

The game seems really well designed. It saves three configurations of weapons and of chipsets. The character running automatically after pressing the dash button once makes mapping dash to a face button workable. Right now I have dash on the circle button; making it the Senran Kagura set up. I like it, but I'm going to try having dash on the left trigger to be like Ninja Gaiden. Pod Device on right bumper will work well because my Pod attacks will pretty much work like my Soldier 76 in Overwatch.

I wish more games would let us fully remap the controller. I'm having fun just thinking of a configuration that will work best for me. And the cool thing is customizing the controls feels like it fits into the game's lore.

I'm about 7 crowns away from the Platinum in Monster Hunter, but I'm not really in a rush.

If the upcoming Wildspire Waste event is the same as the Deep Green Blues event then I'll just be down to 2 crowns left after farming. I would have gotten it early last week, but I was gone for 6 days. Right now, I'm just trying to get the Magazine Capacity gem from tempered Elders to put the cherry on top of my build. I'm also helping out friends with their stuff too.

I have forgotten about Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet coming out soon. So my March will be SAO, Metal Gear Survive, and finishing up Dark Rose Valkyrie. :) As for DW9, I'm putting that on hold until the next patch.

God, don't even get me started on that Capacity Boost deco. I've been farming for it for days and can't get it nor a single Artillery deco when all I need is one of each. This game has one of the worst endgames I've seen in terms of aZn grind because that's all there is to do: grind deco's. And the elder melder can eat shit; that bitch has never shit out anything better than an r6 despite me pumping 1200rp into each set of melds. No wonder people started save scumming and abusing the seeds to dupe certain decos, because farming is a completely rigged slot machine and waste of time here.

And all for what exactly? Just to kill the same move-set recycled monsters over and over again? Even Dragon's Dogma had a raid boss to tackle when the game released and who knows how long it will be before they do G-ranks. MHW is just another of those games where the journey is the best part, but once you hit the end the fun is over.

It took me 467 rolls (save scumming every 50) before I got the Capacity Boost deco from the Melder. Ridiculous. It's been a long time since I've seen something with a worse drop rate than the pure Bladestone.

I have no idea what I will play in March. There's nothing I'm interested in until the end of March when Ni no Kuni II and Atelier Lydie & Suelle release. Then immediately after those at the beginning of April is Pillars of Eternity II. I'm also interested in Surviving Mars, a simulation game that's releasing around the same time. Though after the devs last game or two, I'll wait before biting on it to see if it's worth it. I really miss fun simulation/base building games like Dungeon Keeper and Theme Hospital.

I more or less rarely play Monster Hunter since I use Dual Blades, which is terrible for breaking monster parts solo on Elder Dragons and I don't really enjoy playing with random people that I'm not familiar with and they don't really scale between 2 and 4 people. Tried playing Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online and made it halfway through the game, but my desire to continue is non-existant. The characters and dialogue are alright, but the gameplay is so incredibly basic and slow that it's mind numbingly boring with how much you hit the same damn button. I think I'm just going to avoid any Compile Heart games for a while in general. The fact that they're working on so many projects at once is absurd and explains a lot.

Now that I have a replacement wired controller for my PC, I can finally start playing the original Zwei again. Maybe go through the .hack remake as well. I'll also play through the Cold Steel games on PC again at some point to listen to the 50k+ newly voiced lines in each of the games. Thankfully turbo should cut off a good 25-35% of my potential game time. Oh there's also FFXII Zodiac I could play on PC since I never beat that one because I abhor the combat. Could probably do it on the PC version since I can more easily control the games speed, which I think it has some in-game options for that as well.

I was just about to start doing that since the legit way was a joke, when it finally dropped. Now I just need an artillery deco so I can dump the charm in favor of evasion. Pure DPS GL is pretty slick abusing polish protection but I prefer to just not get hit when dashing and the fashion hunter is strong with my build. ;)

GF stopped playing for the exact same reason, only she was glaive. You absolutely need support unless you're a heavy hitter or it becomes more of a chore with long fights and while most random players in this game are just fine (they're always Japanese lol), I get the distaste for playing with randy's. This game wouldn't have done nearly as well as it has if it had launched against any online MP competitor.

Probably going to dump this game for RE7 gold finally since it's on sale and BB will PM.

How do you get this damn Rathian ruby?
Investigation with gold slots. If none, then just do a regular mission with that monster until you get it. When it's near death, capture it for bonus rewards. I always get gems easy this way.

Also pop a voucher before the quest to up the chances of rarer materials. If all else fails, just do the weekly limited bounties for the golden ticket. Melder will trade you a ruby for it no questions asked.

I completed two more optional things in MH solely for backgrounds: Capturing all wild life including sub-species and creating all weapons (Rarity 6-8 final tree line forms plus Arena weapons). I saw two people with the 'all weapons' background  and only one person with the 'all wildlife' background so of course being a completionist..I had to have them.

The background for all weapons is not that good. It's just a gray background with the weapons in the background. However, the one for capturing all wildlife was worth it. I found a picture of it to share and it's already on my guild card.
