1up officially bought by UGO. Goodbye EGM :(
There is still one issue being send out correct? Anyone that's paid for a subscription know of what will happen to their remaining subscription?
The last issue is going to be on 1up.com, it won't be printed.

You'll end up with a subscription to a similar magazine (not of your choosing).

I guess print media really is dying. I prefer having a magazine that I can take everywhere. I'm not one of those guys that likes dropping a deuce with a laptop in there with me.

Where have you seen this? I don't want my three year subscription being transferred to some shit magazine.

this happen every time a magazine went out of business. Just cancel if you dont like it

Well, I've had no official confirmation, but when my other magazines had been canceled in the past, I got different mag subs I didn't choose.

FHM canceled, I got Maxim.
OPM canceled, I got EGM.

I really enjoyed the new Rebel.fm podcast. You can tell they were still pretty wrecked by the layoffs, so you have to admire their dedication to the fans. (I even enjoyed the shitty audio quality, gave it a pirate radio vibe that feels right considering the circumstances.)

hey guys, just wanted to pop in to say thanks a million for the support. CAG helped me get my start even before i started writing on my own, and i've always appreciated the community here. obviously tons of thanks to cheapy too for the kind words on the podcast. hopefully you'll be seeing some of my stuff on CAG from time to time.

i'll be hanging around more often as soon as things have settled down a bit, but in the meantime, check out Rebel FM if you haven't yet. finally up on iTunes:

we will all definitely enjoy your company more often :)

I'll hop on RebelFM even never being a big fan of podcasts, but the people involved (such as you) get my respect so I'm sure I'll get something out of it.

By way of Twitter, here's the 1UP Show OST.

And, if you enjoyed the 1UP Show and want to donate to the new 1UP Show endeavor, visit Talking Orange.

After religiously watching the 1UP Show for free for the last three years, I figured donating was the least I could do to show my appreciation.

oh nice! the round table discussions were why I loved the 1up show so it'll be nice to see this going on. I wish sites did more discussions and less reviews.

I think the difference with those is that they were owned by the same respective companies. I called the EGM subscription phone number last night and she said I'd be notified when "things with the magazine" were settled and I would be able to cancel the rest of my subscription or continue with whatever magazine they'd use as a substitute.

Now there are no good gaming podcasts left :*( . Well, there is the CAGcast, but I havent cared to listen in a while. My main podcast was Radio Free Nintendo, but I dont care much for my Wii anymore and theres a new person there who is ruining it. Also, there is no way they are replacing free EGM subs. They know they dont owe you (*us* actually) and there are so many free subs that it would fail to in any way make money (I hope Im wrong though). Also, fuck UGO and everyone currently associated with it
Go to 1up.com. The final issue is up now. It says the would be final issue in the title.
Where? I'm not really familiar with 1up's site...

Awesome thanks a lot Nick. Something didn't feel quite right about this Friday with no new 1UP Yours to download. I can't exactly describe how it feels, all I know is that it sucks and I don't like it. This whole situation is going to take some getting used to.

I just realized: Since the final EGM is going to be free online, is it possible to print the high quality scans, go to a professional printing place, bring a published EGM for referance, and have them make the scans into a real looking magazine, staples and all? Itd be even cooler to get a mailing label on there to make it look like a real magazine straight from your mailbox. How much do you think theyd charge?

I'm gonna miss EGM. It was the right balance between screen shots, reviews, and editorials. GamePro hasn't been good for a while and Play needs to stop treating every RPG like it's the next coming of Final Fantasy VI.

Yay for RSS feeds, I downloaded and listened to it as an mp3, but had way too much trouble trying to figure out how to add it to my zune as a podcast (then the device remembers where you pause even if you listen to something else in the middle) - I still have no idea if any other Zune users can explain it. I'm looking forward to more episodes.

i dont know either but i love it on the zune. i can switch from the pti podcast to the cagcast i upload on it.

im going to miss egm also. it was my first ever mag that subbed to. i had to convince my dad forever to get the magezine. it kept me from going crazy in study hall, long bus rides, and became a great poop companion.

EGM will surely be missed. i cant believe now we are stuck with Game Informer and Gamepro. GI i dont mind as much but Gamepro......ewww.

On the podcast portion of the Zune software click on "add a podcast" then paste in http://rebelfm.libsyn.com/rss .That is all you need to do. The feed is working great on my Zune :)

I know that. I meant that before they had an rss feed you had to download it as an mp3 file and I wanted to know how to make the zune treat that as a podcast rather than music (for pausing and returning purposes). I have wanted to figure this out for mp3 versions of books as well with no luck.

I know iTunes lets you set "Remember playback position" as a property for any mp3. If the Zune software doesn't have that, that's pretty lame because I'd consider that an essential feature.

Sort of sad to see this information. Early Nintendo Power, EGM and Gamefan (when they were around) helped fuel my early video game addiction. Can't say that I've read any game magazines beyond GI for the last couple years, but it still sucks to see a magazine get canned that has been around so long and is so well-known in the community.

I'm not really sure how feasible video game magazines are anymore anyways. My friends always used to buy them, but I don't know any of them that read them anymore beyond GI. GI being pushed at GS really helps them, but I'm not sure how the others are able to survive.

Not to be an annoying shill...but anyone interested in some EGM nostalgia, take a look at my most recent blog entry on here and let me know if it's something you're interested in seeing more of.
What was the explanation?

What a shitty way to go out, too. That last issue blew.
They said it was because Marvel wouldn't let them use any of their initial picks for the cover, so that's what ended up on the cover.

Listened to Rebel FM and enjoyed it. It reminded me of the Arrow Pointing Down podcast that Ryan Davis, Jeff Gerstmann, Alex Navarro, and some others made before it rolled into the Giant Bombcast when Giant Bomb started.

I know what you mean.....My weekend was never confirmed.

Good Luck Nick, you guys at 1upFM were cool as hell.

Who's gonna confirm my weekend?:cry::baby:

Supposedly Shane will announce the new job on the next RebelFM - out Wednesday I believe (if Nick is still reading maybe he can confirm this?)

January 14. The same day FDR became the first U.S. President to travel by airplane while in office. I think Shane's going to the moon to conquer it. :whistle2:k

Thank you for posting this. I'm about 1/2 way through and loving it. It's interesting to hear EGM alumni talk about the good old days... especially Trickman Terry and Sushi-X.

That's what he was being all secretive about? Going to work for a publisher that next to no one has ever heard of? Ugh, someone tell Herr Bettenhausen to get over himself.

Sorry, Chase, I'm just not a big Shane fan.

Ignition localizes Japanese games and one of their first in the Bettenhausen era is Blue Dragon Plus along with the hint that SNK stuff is to come later this year. He mentioned getting an offer from Sony a few years ago when 1up Yours was taking off, so he declined to stay with 1up.

If you want another podcast with an EGM/1up alum, check out this week's Giant Bombcast, which features guest star Giancarlo Varanini.

I always thought Shane would end up at Naughty Dog .
Kind of weird that all Nick posts is a link to the new podcast. You'd think he'd be more active and not act like a famous celeb. =P
He probably very busy .

I for one will be happy to not have to read or listen to Shane's game "journalism" anymore.

But still wish him look in his new job.

Thanks guys for aggregating all these podcasts to listen to. Losing 1up yours is like having one of my favorite tv shows.

I'm not a Shane fan but I really hated reading anything Seanbaby put out the last couple years. Those DS Kiddie game articles were ridiculous.

Garnett announces that a 1up Yours Reunion show will be recorded tomorrow with Shane, Luke, John, Skip, and Garnett with Luke bringing the news, too. And it's an end of the year NPD show, so you know that Luke's presence is important. It should be out on Tuesday since they're off until then.

He also reveals that a new show to take the place of 1up Yours, though it may still keep the name, but it will feature just the Whatcha Been Playin' and Community segments. The cast right now is Garnett, John, David "The Funisher" Ellis, and a rotating fourth chair until someone can take the spot full-time.

Shane clarifies the whole Sony offer news and why he took the Ignition job along with what he's doing at the moment.

Also, there's a new Sports Anomaly out that includes info on what the fate of the Sports Anomaly is, but I haven't listened to it yet to find out what the answer is.
It's sticking around!!!
