2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!

Didn't watch that game but diving or whatever aside the Habs have been dominated.

My boys took advantage of a Blue Jackets team that is clearly frusturated. The Wings were like a machine today.

Wished I could have watched the Hawks & Flames today. Two very entertaining teams. Chicago better not get too full of themselves. The Saddledome is going to be rocking come game 3.
Laraque is a "smart" enforcer. Carcillo, on the other hand, is not.
Agreed, however, Laraque's effectiveness has waned since the lockout, simply because a lot of the smaller guys, like Carcillo refuse to go with him. I look at it this way, when Matt Bradley throws an elbow at Sidney Crosby, I want someone to kick Bradley's ass, but he won't go with Laraque. Eventually, Laraque and Brashear would go for the umpteenth time, and the piper was never really paid. Now, I love watching those two drop, but I still want someone to wax Bradley. That's where Carcillo comes in.

I guess what I'm saying is that those two types of players aren't interchangeable, you know? But I'd rather not have stupid penalties...so it's a wash, I guess.

Saw some highlights of the Flames/Hawks game last night. Toews play reminded me of a couple other #19's. Great stuff.

watching Blues vs. Canucks. Who you got? I think St. Louis can win today.
Good game by my Wings

By the way St Louis 1-0 right now

Somebody needs to tell these f'ing linesmen to quit jumping in when a couple guys want to go. It's getting ridiculous. I wish I had a shock collar on them so I could zap these over active zebras.

Blues are toast. Probably wore themselves out down the stretch and the Nucks are playing pretty good in front of Roberto.

Terrible call on Clowe that led to that first Ducks goal.

all 3 ducks scorers (ryan, ebbett miller) started the year in the minors. also, i heard on radio there was somethin like 21 blocked shots on top of the 40+ hiller saw. crazy!

sounds like you were the one about to trade thorton only 2 games into the playoffs judging from your last post. if it makes you feel any better, i still see this series goin 7 games but wat do i know

Eh. you can look at the 2002 Red Wings. Messed up the first two games against Vancouver and everybody was crying and calling for the end of the world... and then Cloutier lets in the shittiest goal you'll ever see and the Wings blow through the next 3 games winning 4-2 and captured another Stanley Cup that year. When you have a team like the Sharks you can't doubt them until they lose that third game. Then it's over.

^Aww.. you watched the post game show. how cute.

Speaking of Thorton... He thought nothing was wrong and all the coaches thought they "did well and stuck to their plan". Might as well throw in the "We were good but they were better" speech. Seriously, only reason the Mighty fucks continued to get penalties is because they knew they could get away with that shit. You go 0/12 (Whatever it is...) in PP and you can't score 5/5 you aren't really going to get squat.

As for the series... I don't think the Sharts can last 7 really. At their current pace.

Are you talking to me? Cause I turned the TV off as soon as the buzzer sounded. I'm just a Wings fan trying to give the San Jose folks some support.

lol, I don't really think he is talking to you personally. I think he just likes whinning and talking trash, every single post from him I have read since I noticed this thread is either trash talking or whinning. Typical forum behavior .

I didn't really expect for the sharks to fall two games in a row; however game 1 and game 2 were very different. Ducks compoletely dominated game 1 but in my opinion barely scrapped off the win in game 2. All goals count, even the ugly ones. The importat things is that they remembered how to score a goal. Now if they only remember that a powerplay means that they have the advantage, all is good. If they were going to pull a stunt like falling 2 games behind, I think there is no opponent better than the ducks. I don't think they have the ability to close the series even with a lead like this yet. (If Jonas keeps up that pace I would actually be surprised and displeased :bomb:) I am somewhat concerned but I think we still have a fighting shot.
lol, Yeah but thats Josh Gorges.
5 NHL fights for Gorges, 0 for Bergeron. Bergeron's got concussion problems. And Gorges is the one who hit Bergeron from behind into the net after he scored a goal right before the playoffs.

Could you also shock them with all the damn false faceoffs? Drop the fucking puck, zebra.

The officiating has been awful and inconsistent thus far in the games I've been to and watched. Bill McCreery needs to hang them up, for real. He watches someone get raped in front of him, but calls nothing unless it's a stick infraction. Graze a guys shin pads with the blade of your stick and his arm goes up so fast it's ridiculous.
Apparently this was some live reporting on Hawks/Flames series.

Hilarious. "A bit of a blooper on that one."

Also: HAY GUYZ I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY OF THE SHARKS/DUKS SERIES HOWZ THAT GOING/?

Hah, actually I don't really care who wins, because I don't particularly like either team. But I do enjoy shitting on your parade, Sharks fans.

The Sharks better pick it up, because they looked pretty... mediocre in their first two games. Like most, though, I do expect this one to go to seven games, which is fine with me -- it's been entertaining so far, AND Daryl Reaugh's been doing the color commentary for these games on Versus, which is awesome.

Ovechkin leaves after watching practice.....Rangers Practice

NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers had an interested observer sitting on the visitor's bench as they took the ice for their pregame skate Monday morning.

Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin was watching the Rangers' practice when a Rangers trainer complained to the Capitals. Washington PR man Nate Ewell then asked Ovechkin to leave the area.

"Alex was just looking for a place to relax. He likes being by the ice," Ewell said. "As soon as he found out it made the Rangers uncomfortable, he left."

When asked why the Rangers wanted him to leave, Ovechkin joked: "Because they're afraid of me."

I found some pics of the incident :D

LMAO @ Avery's Goalie interference call.

Edit: Ya know Montreal I hadn't considered you the worst and most worthless place holder team, but congrats you are now.

Bye Habs, it's been a fucking heartbreak of a year. I hope they trade off those 10+ contracts that expire at the end of the season.

must win game tonight, obviously. i suppose the sharks could become the 3rd team in history to come back from 0-3, but i wouldnt want to push that to the limit. as long as they win tonight i like their chances.

i wouldnt be nearly as upset if this was a series against other teams, detroit, calgary etc. but the ducks... thats just salt in the wound.

Yeah, the Sharks have to come out tonight and show us why they were the best team in the nhl this season. Too bad for les habitants, a lot of my friends are fans, maybe next season.

Chance for my Wings to shut down the Jackets. I'm expecting Columbus to be fired up since it's their first home playoff game and they are in a must win situation. Can't wait.

I almost felt bad for RJ, but that's Stuart & Kronwall job. They had hits like that all playoffs last year and it kept the opposition forwards rubber necking. Give RJ props though. He came back and scored the Jackets only goal. Hell he's the only Jacket to score this series.

Commadore on the other hand didn't help his team. After the Stuart hit he tried to hit Cleary and ended up in flying in to the Wings bench. He gets pissed takes a penalty next to his own net and stands there watching as Zetterberg makes it 3-0 on the delayed call.

Blues are done. Great job by them to get in considering where they were at the all star break.

What a tense game. It pisses me off everytime I see the replay of the first goal nabby let in. What a terribly weak goal; nevertheless, a win is a win. Go Sharks!

Congrats to the Canucks and their fans.

I wonder if holding on to their veterans was worth it for the Blues? Is a 1st round sweep really better than acquiring assets and drafting high?

I was hoping the Blues would win that series, but thats what they get for dicking around the teams at the deadline who wanted to deal.

Well... I thought they weren't going to win the series, but I certainly didn't see a sweep. Either I miss judged how good the Canucks or how good the Blues could be.

So much for a strong Central. lol
