2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!

It's happended before, and years before that they got to the Cup only to win the first with Ron Francis aka Ron Franchise and lose four straight against the Wings.
Damn the Whalers playin' friggin' good lately. Canes Wings rematch? Hope the Canes can win more then one game this time.
The league as usual is rewarding diving, flopping, and assorted bitch moves.

Jussi Jokinen skated at Thomas to throw snow in his face. When David Krejci grabbed him, he dove and covered his face like he was hurt. Penalty on the Bruins, Canes score on the PP. Later on a Bruins PP, Jokinen dove over Mark Stuart's stick like he was trying out for the UNC swim team. There wasn't any contact with Jokinen at all. They didn't call Stuart for a trip but they didn't call the dive either. After that, Chara's got the puck in the corner. Jokinen high sticks him in the face and hooks him, Chara doesn't go down so he doesn't get the call. Play goes the other way, Chara gets a stick on Jokinen, he falls, instant penalty.

Meanwhile they've been running Thomas for the entire series. If the Bruins make any contact with Cam Ward, immediate goaltender interference penalty.

Now I know why Devils fans hate this team. They're a bunch of cheapshot artists and divers.

As pissed as you can get with the whole diving thing. Maybe your team should cover eric staal. He is single handedly beating your team.

Whats killing the Bruins is the Canes aggressive forecheck, they struggled against teams that do that all year and never adjusted. They're also not being real physical and not winning battles in the offensive zone, not going to the net. But it all starts with the inability to get the puck out of the zone quickly, and the failure of the coaching staff to figure it out.

They lost their two best puck moving defensemen (Hunwick and Ference) and Wideman has some type of groin problem that is limiting his mobility (he was more of a statue than Chara on Samsonov's goal). But they should still be better than that with what they've got.

If anything they're paying too much attention to Staal instead of just playing the game.

Franzenstein is a playoff machine. The whole team stepped it up today. Helm made the most of his ice time and was outstanding. Osgood also made a couple key saves when needed. Just a solid effort all around.

Bruins wiped the floor with the Canes. If they can somehow do that the last two games there may be a glimmer of hope after all.

Really disappointed in the Ducks, but the Wings just slaughtered them to.

I was at the game, outstanding performance. The Bruins made the necessary adjustments and started throwing their weight around against a soft Carolina team.

Scott Walker is a cheap shotting little bitch, Ward's got a broken orbital bone from that sucker punch he threw. Automatic 1 game suspension with more pending league review, and an automatic $10,000 fine for Paul Maurice.

Jokinen is one too, gave Chara a two hander to the back of the leg and hurt him.

Those were a couple of shitty cheapshots by the Canes tonight. The one on Chara was almost exactly like how Zetterberg got a broken leg a few years back. Jokinen deserves to get smoked for that garbage. And the sucker punch Ward caught was pretty friggin ugly.
Hawks/Wings in the Western finals. Hawks in 5.:hot:
Gonna have to disagree on that one. Wings in 4. I do support the hawks until they play Detroit though.

No sweep.

Two dumbass NHL moves today.

First the Lightning will announce Rick Tocchet will be given a multi year deal to stay on as head coach. He took over for Melrose when the team was last in the league through 16 games. Tocchet obviously a brilliant coach got them all the way up to 2nd from last.

Last and in news people might care about Canes forward Scott Walker won't be suspended for his blatant sucker punch to Aaron Ward. I guess that whole mandatory 1 game suspension for instigating a fight in the last 5 minutes of a game was just a rumor. Walker must have pictures of Colin Cambell sucking off a goat. Cambell actually rescinded the automatic one game suspension Walker was given by the ref at the time of the infraction.

Colin Campbell should resign. You can't tell me that Lucic's suspension and Brashear's suspension were any more deserving than what Walker did last night. That was ugly.

Scott Walker is a super joke. I can't believe they didn't suspend him. He deserves twice what he did to Ward although I am not a huge fan of high either. The bad part is someone is going to think about getting revenge on him and that person probably would get suspended. There have been a couple of incidents the league turned away from. I think if you hurt someone with a careless action, it should be an automatic suspention.
Defense!!!
Where? I watched two games tonight and none of the four teams played any :)

Quote by Mickey Redmond (Red Wings secondary Announcer or whatever) whenever someone breaks their stick:
"Back in the old days gang we would almost never see a stick break. You would use the good ol' lumber. Nowadays these composites snap like twigs. It's ridiculous... and on a side note I don't know how to use the internet"

Exactly. I was yelling at the tv during the last 4 minutes of the Hawks game for them to start playing some D.:D I was getting nervous that Vancouver was going to come back and force OT.

Nice win for the B's

Rafalski in for the Wings tonight. Nice to get the #2 D man back. He hasn't played a game in this series.
