2010-2011 NHL Regular Season Thread

It amazes how the Coyotes can go from losing a game against Edmonton and then come right back and beat Colorado handily. Nice to end the first half of the season with a win though.

Indeed. I have a couple Yandle and Turris rc's coming soon. Didn't realize he (Yandle) was playing so well, and is now an All-Star.

I forgot to tell my son last night that his boy, Grabner, scored again.

Yeah, I'm glad he got picked. I thought it was bullshit that he got snubbed to be an All-Star to begin with though. Yandle leads the league in assists and points among defensemen.

Just got back from the Skills Competition. It was pretty awesome, especially Chara's hardest shot record. That place went crazy when that happened. I feel bad for Ovie though, having to shoot like 5 times for the thing to count.

He was like comic relief in an otherwise kind of lackluster night (nobody really went too big on the Breakaway Challenge...that was a disappointment). On top of the gun not working, he also tripped over the camera cord, and broke his stick within like a two minute span, haha. I'm sure being there was amazing though. I wanted to go, but tickets seemed pretty pricey.

You had to buy them as a package (2 tickets for both the Skills Competition and Game) so it was a pain. Plus I had to get a hotel for a night because driving 6 hours roundtrip a day for 2 days wasn't an option.

I was going apeshit when Perry was doing his breakaway shot, waving his stick with puck on blade back and forth about 10 feet in the air. Crazy. Kopitar had some slick moves during his, too.

Also amusing was the fastest skater with Thomas and Ward.

I watched most of the red carpet stuff on Friday night, too. I was laughing because my wife likes the Golden Globes/Oscars red carpet shows, and I was watching one with hockey players.

I thought that move by Oliver Ekman Larsson during the Elimination Shootout was pretty impressive, didn't make a goal but it looked slick.

It really was. I thought Sheesh, did they intentionally do that? If so, good job and it's the only Red Carpet show I'd watch again. lol

Yeah, I thought Perry had a pretty great night. I couldn't believe he didn't even make the top 3 for the Breakaway Challenge. He didn't score, but his moves were the most creative. At least he won the Shootout Elimination though.

Finally home. Went to the Fan Fair today where I got to take a picture with and physically touch The Stanley Cup. It was awesome. I also got a picture with the Coca-Cola Bear who was laid off and now has to work for the Maple Leafs. Oh, and I never knew the Dallas Stars didn't have mascot. I waited like an hour for that thing to show up and then my brother found out they didn't have one. Weekend ruined.

The merchandise sales must've been insane because at the stadium each store was at least 30-40 people deep and everything (minus those crappy GP comics which were $30 each) was gone. Oh, and All-Star jerseys were $225, good lord. I got a really nice Capitals Hat though.

Speaking of the Guardian Project. That was the absolute worst piece of shit promotion ever. If Stan Lee needed $5, I would've gladly given it to him if he promised not to make that crap. We expected some bad costumed people but we got this horrible CG thing where it was mostly on those drapes in the center of the rink and there wasn't even an ending. I expected it to be bad, but holy hell.

Yeah it looks pretty awful, I don't really mind the look of "The Coyote" but he just looks like a bastard child of Wolverine.

Better than "The Wild" though.

There was also Cylcops, Ghost Rider, the Thing and other Marvel knock-offs. My brother made a joke about the Islander one about no one really paying attention to him, just like the rest of the team. I hope somebody in the arena recorded that awful thing from our perspective because I don't know what it was like on TV but inside the arena pretty much everyone was just mesmerized by the awfulness. They turned the RBC Center into Cerebro or something like that. I think everyone cheered at the end because no one decided to kill themselves afterwards.

Oh, and we saw the Islanders mascot. The most fearsome thing in the entire organization right there.

Also, if people want to know how it was like for us in the Arena, feel free to use my description for it because it was just awful. They also gave everyone in the Arena 2 posters of all those horrible things. I also got a card of "The Hurricane" because they wanted to give away lots of free stuff.

I'd almost raise ya and do $7...

I agree that the Guardian Project was awful, being there live it must have been even worse. Unfortunately Stan Lee seems to throw his name onto anything these days.
I'm stumped for words whenever I see the phrase "rebel with a trust fund" as the first words to describe the Mighty Duck guardian.
obviously you didnt go to college in california.

the guardian project is just embarrassingly awful. now that the all star game is over i hope we never have to hear about it again.

Oh man, I have to say, the Sabres guardian has got to be one of the worst. That thing just looks retarded. On the other hand, the Predators guardian is kind of cool. To me, that's actually one of the better ones.

I've watched a lot of pro wrestling in my life, and the guardian project is pretty close to the time RoboCop was buddies with Sting during a storyline in World Championship Wrestling.

When your product is comparable to pro wrestling, it's time to take a step back and re-examine your priorities.

So who was the "villain" supposed to be, anyways? I wasn't even paying attention during the GP, because it was so awful. I thought it was funny that the Islander mascot had a grappling hook AND a jet pack. Why the fuck would you need to grapple up to the roof of a building if you have a JET PACK?!

Okay, so maybe I was paying attention (a little). Also amusing is that the Blue has a saxophone as a weapon.

I have no idea. The villain kinda reminded me of Lord Zedd from the Power Rangers. Whatever it was like on TV, trust me when I say it was at least 10 times worse there. However, the base line for how bad it was is immeasurable in my opinion.

What are you mad at me for? I was the one that thought we'd lose. I can't control if your team has a 3rd period melt down. At least it was one game not the whole damn season...

Because you should of thought your team was going to lose harder. ;)

Every point is important in our conference right now, Coyotes play Vancouver tonight. Hopefully they can recover from that terrible loss and defeat the Canucks again.

Queens have talent to be at the top, they proved it earlier in the season. That doesn't mean I still don't hate SoCal... As for the SARS and fuckS they have nobody... And I generally hate them both.
Franzen scored five tonight. First time a Wing had ever scored five on the road.
this is where id normally make a sarcastic comment about the wings, but franzen is on my fantasy team.

sharks won another sloppy one. but hey, its 2 points on the start of the longest road trip. this is a key stretch for our season.
