3D Dot Game Heroes - Out Now - Relive your 8-Bit childhood.
Yeah, maybe "Relive the late 80's/early 90's" ;). But that isn't really all that catchy.

As for character editing, I started to make one but got kind of overwhelmed (I wanted to make a Cactuar). So I just gave up and chose the blue dragon and started playing the game. Can you get them sent to you by other people over PSN or how does that work? Game saves via computer to flash drive?
Yeah, you basically trade the save file for the character online. There's a post earlier with the details and instructions from Atlus on how.

Posting from phone, so it's difficult to navigate.

My own cactrot though..... that's who I want now.
I love the little jokes and references I've come across so far. A whole room ("From Cave") dedicated to Demon's Souls riffs == awesome! I even saw an Armored Core (another From title) reference. Then of course there are the older NES game references, many of which I'm probably missing since I didn't play most of those games. But there is the slime that wants to be human which I've seen in at least one DQ game.
There are a bunch of characters from Tenchu, Metal Wolf Chaos, and other From software games that you can play as along with some Atlus stuff like a bancho.

So, I see there is this thing called a "bestiary" and apparently you need to hit monsters with a book to get them in there. Does that mean you have to be the scholar class, or is there a way to get a book to use later? I think I just chose "Hero" when I started...

i believe you get the book after the 3rd dungeon, i haven't finished it so i can't say 100%
Is that From also? It could have been a reference to that - all the NPC said was something along the lines of "Wouldn't it be great if there was a 3D mech game?". The Demon's Souls references are a little more obvious: "You obtained a Hero's Soul!" and "Recommend this message? Yes/No" - Yes: "Someone was healed". There's more, too, like a reference about how this game isn't that hard ;).
Note that the "3D Mech" NPC is part of an ongoing side quest, and it is time sensitive. You must find him after every temple to continue the quest.

thanks matt... its one play through for me and then if I want another to pick up the missing stuff from the first time around..

is there an official guide out at all for this from anyone, besides a wiki. A physical guide?

Ugh, I get the feeling there are a lot of time sensitive quests to get little items and I'm already past the point of doing several of them. I really hate when games do that, so one strike against it for that crap :bomb:.

Picked this up tonight and actually getting a much more Link to the Past vibe from it than original Zelda like I thought was said originally, which, given LttP is one of my favorite games of all time, is a good thing.

You get it from a quest somewhere later in the game. They require quite a few hits to register, so it's something you have to do carefully.

If you're the kind of person that talks to everyone when you get into a town, you won't have trouble with most of the quests. I got a fish sword later in the game from a quest, though the finding hidden merchants or small blocks tend to result in better swords if you're in a mood to collect them.

Yep, and you can't get the platinum if you miss ANY of them. You have to complete every event in the game, even if you get nothing from it, to score a Moonlight Sword. That includes acing all the minigames, too. To hell with that. . .

Well, you have to go through the game at least 2 or 3 times.
I'm just playing at my own pace the first time, and next playthrough I will use a guide to make sure I get all the events.

Just aced the Dash mini-game. Felt good.

Nice! What was ur time? i tried a few times and got 27.xx using the D pad. i figured id go back and try again eventually.

19.82

Took a bit to get until I thought up a new strategy, and then it only took me another 2 tries for it to work.

Basically, I knew that I couldn't handle full speed for long and crashing slows you down so much, so....
First lap:
Run the whole thing perfectly, not too hard.

Second lap:
Still going fast from the first lap, I go up the right wall, make the left, and then STOP myself before I go down to make the little turn into the forest. You stop yourself by pressing in the opposite direction. So I press to the right, and then immediately run again and finish the lap.
Now I'm not going crazy fast, but fast enough that I can still make time and handle the zig zag tree section.

Third lap:
Same as above.

If you crash once with this method, it's over.

Finally finished my Dotimus!

I'm so happy with my creation...now I can finally play the game :whee:

heh, just did this right now after I finally picked it up at Best Buy, Im thinking about getting rid of that white 'shot', though it only comes up when you attack but it is fun making the little beeping sounds of the shot and theme

Thanks Dallow, it actually does look really nice when jumping off cliffs in truck mode. I was very impressed with how well the animations worked.

I am leaving for vacation today... and will be gone until next Sunday.. you are all lucky bastards.. my game is in the mail. these characters are bad ass, good work everyone.

Hah, so I just discovered for the first time late tonight that you could actually jump off some cliffs - d'oh! I wonder what I've missed because I just assumed you couldn't.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. That's too bad because it ruins the whole sword collecting thing too - so I guess I wont bother with those much at all either. And the bestiary sounds like a pain in the ass too - is it worth all that trouble just to get a gold trophy when the platinum is unattainable? I dunno - we'll see how I feel once I get further into the game.

Damn, I spent about 45 minutes on the first one and I just can't do it. I was proud of myself for getting under 25 (for the prize of a whopping 100 gold ), but there's just no way I'll be able to get under 20. After getting around the tree in the upper left, I just can't make the quick jog to the right and then down - especially if I'm going at anything but the initial dash speed. The only way I got under 25 was to do something similar to you except by crashing around that area. That gave me faster speed on the "easy" parts of each lap (the bottom and right side, and most of the top. I think I did it with 2 or 3 crashes - barely... No way no how I could not crash without being too slow.

And the other one apparently has a much longer minimum time to obtain which makes me think it will be 10x harder because it is probably a lot longer with a lot more obstacles/turns.

Then I also did the tower defense and breakout minigames tonight. I couldn't quite get the tower defense one aced, but I could see doing that at least. The breakout one makes me want to snap the game in half and shove it down the collective throats of any and all From employeees ;). I have no idea how hard it will be or not, but it kept failing on me even when I had the shield up - if you are not quite angled right the ball breaks. Plus it is just as boring as hell... I don't even think I'll finish that one, let alone ace it.

I haven't quite gotten my platinum on Demon's Souls yet, but it is just a matter of me putting in a little more time (I just have to get a couple more spells). Everyone talks about it being a super-hard game, but it was EASY compared to what this one will be...
Nice! What was ur time? i tried a few times and got 27.xx using the D pad. i figured id go back and try again eventually.
Yeah, I got like 24.5 but no way could I improve on that - and that took me about 30-40 tries.

I beat the first dungeon last night. The overworld theme is pretty awesome. Other than that...meh. I'm only going to play through this game once.

Hate to ask something that might have been already answered a dozen or so pages ago but, How do I put a downloaded character onto my PS3 ?? Because I want to use this " chatter tooth " character that I downloaded to my laptop and I dont know how to put it on my slim :(

If Heavy Rain wasn't so fucking amazing, I would be really upset that Amazon is taking forever with my order.

I envy all of you! BLAH!

General consensus is about 12 hours for the story, 20+ including sidemissions, add in another playthrough or 2 for the platinum and you are looking at anywhere from 12-50 depedning on your enjoyment
Thanks Dallow, it actually does look really nice when jumping off cliffs in truck mode. I was very impressed with how well the animations worked.
Doesn't the game inherently rotate when you walk though? I could just imagine what a drunk ass driver Optimus must look like swerving all over lol.
And the bestiary sounds like a pain in the ass too - is it worth all that trouble just to get a gold trophy when the platinum is unattainable?
The bestiary isn't that bad outside of two rare spawns, but I've already got those so it's not impossible. Considering every boss gives a trophy when you book it, I'd go for it. A great trick to use once you book a boss is immediately save and load. That way you don't have to finish killing the boss and the monster is still booked.

What I'd like to know is could I use somebody's save file to get the all swords trophy? Like have a save that is missing just one sword that you buy somewhere and then completing it yourself. The minigames are just not fun, especially with the horrible collision detection.

That would be funny, but nah, he's in robot mode when you walk and attack, truck mode only when jumping off cliffs.

you can turn off the rotating while walking thing the game adds just like you can turn off the shield

You also have to factor in the "terrible" collision detection is based on the FULL GRID that the character is made, not just the portions of the grid you decided to use. If your character was a block that maximized the whole grid, well, then the hit detection wouldn't be "terrible"

Well, I guess this is so that people don't cheat by making a 1 pixel character... making it almost impossible to get hit if it were to detect the actual pixels used. Keeping it the whole block keeps a fair playing field for all models. Given the circumstances, it's probably the ONLY way to make editing and keeping fair play.

im not sure if anyone remembers but i was dyin to get this game and i proerded it weeks ago

now i am often in n outta da hospital, and between this and tht and my moms always takes that opportunity to goin thru everryting and rearranging dipose of whatever it is while im under inpatient care, things get misplaced allways (i think she called them on me twice just to ckean my room lol)

so they have my info (paid $5, had 38 left)i was told to call doument cotrol at the store and ntohing was done, they didnt even pull up my account to veify what my (non gift card) balance was......and they know if something is used ot not.

man im so upset, what should i do? i cant just llose 45 bucks on top of hte 5...anyone haaev any ideas? (sorry for typos, im on heavy drs medicine)

I don't think that's the rationale behind it at all, but an interesting point. I think from a programmer's perspective, in a game where you can design a character based on preset conditions, it would be infinitely easier to just program for a cube that can look any way it wants, but behave as a cube in a 3D dot world

Agreed. What I might try doing is create a character that's nothing but an outline of the grid. That way I can actually see the limits and stop getting hit by nothing. I'd prefer they let you cheat if you really wanted rather than punishing players who are used to precision.

lol

you could make a fat block guy with block legs and a block head

you could call him block head. better yet, remake the block heads from GUMBY!
whats the install size?
a little bit over 1gb. the load times in between zones are pretty quick just enough time to see the image then its gone.

i finished the desert temple and did a few side quests/upgrades and started a little bit into the water temple. so far loving it, gonna have to balance my time soon with red dead/alan wake next week.

jodou : do you want me to upload my boba fett I made for 3D? kinda stinks with the 6 color palette limit that i couldn't get all the detail I wanted color wise, but I guess for Link its good because I could switch to his blue costume in about 2 seconds
