All Pro Football 2K8

Has anyone read any significant differences between 360 and PS3 versions outside of achievements? Sport achievements were always kinda lame to me, so I figured this would be a good one to try on PS3.

I believe the PS3 is 30fps, while the 360 is 60fps.....

I may rent the PS3 version since my 360 is broke.

I'll pick this up eventually...$30 seems about right. It's not like the rosters will go out of date.

My gold picks were Reggie White and Sweetness. The rest of my picks include Cunningham, Chuck Bednarik (guy is all over the place), Jerome Brown, Rob Moore, Alvin Harper, couple linemen. I love the amount of lineups you can make with this game. But 2K has to step it up for next year. make this game worth $60.
"You can't coach that." Oh, how I've missed Peter and Dan.
Fixed that for ya. ;)

I'm still waiting for their little exhange that happens after Dan has just heaped praise on someone:

Peter: "....and "you can't coach that", can ya Dan?"

Dan: "You can't!"

(both laugh)

The game rocks by the way.

So... is any one working on getting a league together for this? I'm not sure I have time to manage it (is there anything to manage?) but I think that would be a lot of fun.

To be perfectly honest, you could buy this game for the football and be happy with it.

Madden....will be Madden. You can expect the same thing as last year with some minor changes. And thats ok if you're cool with that. Although it does seem IMO that the next-gen versions of Madden aren't as well developed as the legacy Xbox versions. If you really need the NFL license and players, then go for it.

Me, I'm rolling wtih APF2K8. My Team, the LA Assassins:

Ronnie Lott
OJ Simpsons
Willie Gault
John Taylor
Ken Stabler
Pepper Johnson
Daryl Johnson
Jeff Jaeger
Dexter Manley
Joe Jacoby
Barney Lem

...is almost ready for online play.

You know, the more I play it, the more I want to suggest to anyone on the fence to go buy it - if game modes isn't top priority on their list.
You know, the more I play it, the more I want to suggest to anyone on the fence to go buy it - if game modes isn't top priority on their list.
It's just pure fun football. And there's no need to rush out and get the new one just for new rosters. I can see this being my primary football game for a long time to come.

Well guys remember how I said I could score one for $30ish shipped? Not sure if the copy is new or not, but I was able to score one via a reseller on eBay who was selling these in bulk. He had 10+ copies at the time of the posting and my best offer to him was $29.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150143941301&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005

Keep in mind It's money order only/cashiers check. I was thinking it was paypal and did the inpulse buy but slapped myself on the forehead after that!

Damn, I went by Blockbuster and Movie Gallery today to try and rent this, but neither place actually had it on the shelf yet. I guess I'll wait until next week, but all the praise I'm hearing here definitely has me interested!

Hah! I almost did the exact same thing. Money order/cashiers check only = no thanks! :whistle2:#

The passing game in this is much more satisfying than in the EA games. There's actually the feeling of dropping back and planting your feet. And is it just me or are the gang tackling routines much better/more pronounced than in NCAA? I've played more games in NCAA, but gang tackling never seems to go beyond two tacklers there.

Glad I decided to pick this up as well, though. I had nearly forgotten how good the 2K football games were. Not to mention it's got the best commentary in sports gaming (only the All-Star Weekend Dunk Contest in Live with Kenny Smith comes anywhere close). Awesome halftime and post-game highlights, too.

 Uh, no. MLB 07 has the best commentary out there. It's smooth, informative, entertaining, and it keeps up with the action. APF's commentary is too robotic when numbers are brought up.

Who's doing the commentary this time around? Is it the guys from the original NFL 2K games?

That's really cool! I just rented the game up from Hollywood Video, so I'll be posting my impressions soon enough.

I just rented it last night and after 2 games I can give my impressions.

It is a solid effort by 2k and I like the create a team aspect but it still has a fair amount of game play flaws. Like the 2K NFL games before the presentation is a class act, the announcers are better then the next gen Madden announcers. It looks good, not great but good. I am going to start a season before I can give it a score.

I won't be buying it since as soon as Madden comes out I don't see it hitting the tray again.

With that said I'm looking forward to next years game and hopefully they will put in more superstars that deserve to be put in the game.

I played a game with my friend yesterday and the game was "alright." Some of my complaints were the team names (The Gunslings, The Werewolves, cmon). Also the announcer says almost the exact same things as he did in 2k5. I did enjoy the gameplay quite a bit though (besides kicking). I ran all over the field with Walter Payton, it was awesome. I'd buy this game at a discounted price, but $60 is way too steep IMO.

Warning a less than stellar review.
With two season games under my belt I'm not impressed. The kicking is frustrating as hell, missing extra points and all. The passing game is crap with accidental pump fakes, I pressed the button once :bomb:, sometimes it is impossible to pass a lob. It is much easier with a gold QB but even with a silver QB the passing games is frustrating. Having wide open players and the QB won't throw anywhere near the receiver. With that said the rush game is easy to run all day and not even pass the ball once. The AI is crap, I will be stopping the passing game or running game all game and as soon as I'm up the AI will let the computer break a big one every time .

Season play has no meat to it. If you were one that was bashing the Madden $60 price a few seasons ago with not much besides core gameplay and not criticizing All Pro then you are nothing more then a hypocrite because All Pro is just that a thin game that needs some polish. I would rate it a 6.9/10

spoo, I initally had some of the same issues with it you did, but after learning how to play (especially how to kick, which is obnoxious at first and cool once you get the hang of it), it gets a lot more fun.

It's certainly not an AAA game, but it's a heck of a lot of fun. I'm not sure it's worth $60, but I don't regret using a gift card and a 12% off BB coupon on it at all.

Maybe I was being harsh but it is frustrating to loose a game that you clearly outplayed the opponent because you can't kick a extra point or kickoffs out of bounds. I am looking forward to next years game though :D

My method is to pull back the stick and hold it back but then don't flick it forward until just when the kicker's lef begins to come forward toward the ball. Then I use the stats abgout the kick to kind of fine tune it.

The in-game instructions were about as clear as mud on how to do it, though. Does that help at all?

 I did what they said, I guess I just don't get it :wall:
 I did what they said, I guess I just don't get it :wall:
Make sure:

A) You're holding the stick back the whole time before you flick in (and not pressing it does like I thought originally)
B) Read what the description is of the kick when you do it to see if you're late, early, etc.
C) Watch the kicker's foot / the ball rather than the people trying to cream you. I think this is what I like about the system is that it forces you to focus on the ball like a real kicker has to. Adds just a bit of realism to it; try to see if anyone's going to pop you and you botch it up.

And after reading a post on GameFAQs (I know, I know...) I think letter C is the reason a lot of Madden people don't like the 2K games. Whereas Madden plays like a whole game of nothing but SportsCenter highlights, 2K is a little closer to a sim. It's odd as I much prefer an arcade style game over a sim in like racing games, but in this I much prefer 2K's more sim-like qualities over Madden's arcadeness. Just saw those thoughts and thought they might be relevant.

I agree with you daroga. I think it goes for the passing game as well. In 2k8 you ahve to have the quarterback's feet planted and ready to throw or he will throw a bad ball. Too many people are used to playing video games where you're running full spead with your quarterback one way and throwing a perfect dart to your receiver who's on the opposite side of the field. That just doesn't happen in real football.

That's something I never really noticed when I played the other 2K games (maybe that's why I sucked? ;) ), but it became very evident right away that I needed to carefully control trhe QB in this go-round. In Madden I seemed to forever be dropping back to pass like 10-20 yards and just launching it down field. In my 8 or so season games played I think I've conneted with one receiver while I was desperately on the run.

And I do think that regardless, there's a dislike of one game by fans of the other because there is a learning curve. The buttons are or behave differently in the game, and the game play, while still football, is quite different. Frustration over change moreso than either being a bad game is what seems to keep bad blood between 2K fans and Madden fans I think.

Granted that I have an offense-heavy team, your Madden description is fitting for 2K8 so far for me. I'm splitting open even the defense-heavy teams quite easily and making them look like fools, so much so that the announcers are calling for replacements ASAP. My star-empty defense is doing quite well, as my opponents are throwing a lot of passes out of bounds or near the sidelines, which would explain my low tackle numbers on defense.

I just completely shut down a team in my season. Held them to 50 total yards (11 of which were on the last play of the game) and no points. I'm going to finish this season, but then might start another one on the next difficulty higher.

But, by and large, while it can be easy to pick apart another team, in 2K I find myself doing it methodically vs. a 75 yd TD throw that the QB made while on the run from 3 blitzing linebackers. Those are the types of plays that happen at least once for me in every game I played in Madden last year which I've had none of thus far in 2K8.

I'm having a lot of fun with the game. I'm working out some kinks with my team at the moment in quick matches, then I'm going to do the season mode.
how's the achievements? as for ncaa football 08, i got 770/1000 in a few hours:lol:
I've only gotten 90 thus far, though I think there's a few easy ones I've not bothered to get ("edit a team" "create a player" etc.)

I guess to play with your favorite players get madden unless you like the cowboys I heard a lot of player like what is on the c's roster but I like the skins :)

i think it's hilarious how people think Madden is a bunch of sportscenter highlights... I do agree that many games are high scoring, but I think most of the scoring was on account of missed tackles, blown coverages, etc.. instead of 'highlight based plays'.. 2k5 suffered from this as well. While I disliked madden 07 just for the plain fact that they took 06 and 07 off in the development aspect, I wasn't a fan of 2k5 either. the AI was horrible and the playbooks looked so playskoolish compared to Madden. From what I heard and saw those same things are All Pro 2k8. Now I'm not saying Madden will destroy all pro.. but with the reviews and everything on all pro.. i'm going to wait until Madden drops to find out which is better...

You can't tell me Madden is not arcadey. When I am calling dime and prevent pkgs against someone who I am playing online because I know they will call the same four passing plays over and over again and my db's are still letting receivers behind them.......I mean really?

2k suffers as well but not to that extent.

I totally agree. If I know what play is coming I should be able to stop it 90% of the time. People can just throw deep routes to the elite wide receivers. The only good way to stop the play is to jam their receiver manually at the line

wow.. you mean your dbs can't cover for more than a couple of seconds.. sounds like the NFL to me..you guys are just picky.. there will be people that will exploit the bad AI in any game.. you just need to stick to your friends and not play guys like that

nice...anything but Madden approach...hey NFL Fever is out there if you want it...If you actually read what I wrote you'd see that I haven't made my mind up on which to get...but I will say this 2k8 much like Madden 07 looks like it's previous iteration... playbooks, animation, and everything...which for 20 bucks you can overlook the huge flaws in 2k5...but for 60 bucks I might pass on it if Madden actually does something good this year....

If it is a choice between madden and 2k8, take the madden. This game is not going to replace madden. This is more of an option for those of us who do not like how madden plays. Madden will look and play like madden and 2k will look and play like 2k.

This game is not worth $60. It should have been $40. They will probably drop it to that a week before madden comes out but they knew they could get a few of us to pay $60. They know there's a few of us out there have been waiting the last two years for another 2k game.

Hey, I bought the last two maddens on the 360 and neither of them were worth the $60.
