What did HBK do on Raw last week to further the feud? Wrestle Rob Conway? Man, he has less credibility (in the fan's eyes) than people like The Hurricane do.

What's he going to do this week? Oh, that's right: wrestle Muhammad Hassan. 6 days before 'Mania, what in the world is being done on Raw to help this feud? It's all Kurt Angle, man. HBK's riding cruise control into the PPV of the year; that's an indication of how awesome Angle is: he diminishes that impact that HBK's indifference to their match would have with anybody else. It's really the only major match I'd want to watch this year, and one half of the contestants isn't really doing squat. Granted, the psyche of the match revolves around Angle's need to "prove himself" (which I think is more of a shoot that we really realize), so he has to make the effort, yes. But you might as well show HBK playing GBA this week, since it's just as relevant to the WM match as Hassan is.

myke.
I agree with you partially - the last couple weeks it feels like HBK hasn't done much in this feud. However, in the storyline, he was the one who initiated the WM match by asking Teddy Long. Not directly related and more connected to the Edge feud, he did do the rather bloody Street Fight where Angle came to beat him down at the end. And, of course, Rockers nostalgia. I do think Angle is pulling most of the weight, just HBK deserves at least a bit of credit. As fo rthe Hassan thing, yeah, I'm a bit puzzled myself.

The Rockers thing was fun, and perhaps relevant (given that Janetty was going to fight Angle that week). I just feel like, knowing what a politician HBK is, that he's somehow purposely shitting on this feud.

myke.
...color me paranoid.

Holy hell!! Did you guys see the kick Shelton took from Tomko? Now THAT is how you sell a kick. He looked like he got the utter shit kicked out of himself.
Guyver, you are the most fantastical person on this thread. The top pic is *precisely* what I was looking for.

Well, he provided me the screencap I now post as my sig. He deserves something for that. Maybe I just won't bash goldberg for one month.

...that's gonna be tough.

Ha ha ha... ok though, how bout this:

Point 1: I've never really found Lillian attractive, but that purple hair is actually doin it for me.

Point 2: Trish still looked a hell of a lot hotter tonight.

Point 3: Trish and Orton should form some sort of alliance. I think the two of them could really feed off of each other and generate some great heel heat. Plus if Orton has a woman on his arm he won't keep getting the face-pop from the female members of the audience. God... Vince really needs to do that, they could be like SMH and HHH, but much less annoying.

Fun with photoshop....

I always found Lilian hot. Great legs, nice smile and great voice. Plus she is unenhanced (a bonus as far as I am concerned).

AHHH That Taker video was awesome... if Guyver vidcapped that I won't make fun of Goldberg for a month either.

Although, it would've been that much better if Taker came out at the end and choke-slammed, tombstoned, at least chased away Orton.

By the way, I think HHH's retarded beard has generated more heel heat than anything he has said in the last 2 years.

There is a man who would take offense at your calling HHH's beard "retarded."

That man is Lemmy.

Don't $$$$ with Lemmy.
back to my whole "Orton/Trish" combo...
Maybe it's the obvious deficiencies in the other women, but I have so much respect for Trish these days; similarly, Orton just isn't doing it for me. And another push won't help. He reminds me of the asshole rich kid in high school, who was a complete jackass, yet was rarely punished or put in his proper place for anything.

Overpriveleged, hows'at?

myke.
...I guess you have to do something with him, though.

Well the Kurt run-in during the HBK/Hassan match was predictable... now they should have Hassan come out after Kurt costing him the match at WM. Kurt is the all-American boy afterall, it'd make too much sense though. And DAMN has Michaels ever lost a lot of hair, he's losing hair at a rapid rate it looks like... he better do something about that, cuz a sexy-bald boy only works for HBKurt.

Alright so here's how I see it... the New Evolution, you have HHH and Flair of course, and then Orton rejoins the group with Trish in his corner. Then finally you add Matt Morgan assuming he is still progressing in OVW and can return to wrestling from his injuries. Otherwise we just call it quits and Flair turns on HHH, allowing SMH to return to tv in HHH's corner. The Horse would make a great writer.

Oh and why is Rey facing Eddie? I'm assuming it's Chavo's doing in someway or another...

also this must be the first EVER WM that the tag titles won't be defended, not cool.

Ummmm...Was the security force supposed be on HHH's side? Cause they all held Batista down for Trip's cheap shot...Or is that just HHH's backstage powers at work
Ya know what's funny... HHH will win at WM.
No he will drop the title and get it back 2-3 months later. HHH seems to be on a quest to have more title reignes than Ric Flair, so he has to keep dopping it enough times. JBL is the one who is most likely keeping the belt.

At first I thought it was a set-up from Bischoff, but obviously it was done simply to make Batista look stronger... ridiculous. I don't care how powerful Batista may be, no way he throws 10 guys off him all at once. Unless those 10 guys are all clowns, little clowns... BRING BACK DOINK!

So back to this... since I've missed the last few SDs, this is a "friendly" rivalry, yes/no?
So back to this... since I've missed the last few SDs, this is a "friendly" rivalry, yes/no?
Yeah, the storyline was that Chavo was attempting to stir things up between them, but instead of falling for his crap, they are just going to have a friendly contest. My prediction is that they force Rey heel to be "shocking".
Someone has to turn heel at WM.
My predictions: Lita and Rey.

I'll order every PPV through next Wrestlemania if Christian wins the Ladder Match. OK, maybe not all of them, but definitely the one where Christian goes for the title.

We're all gonna have to make our big WM predictions after SD! on thursday, or after reading the SD spoilers, whichever you prefer. Should be most festive.

Unfortunately I'll be out of town for a week so unless the hotel has PPV or a local bar orders it I'll be checking the net for results.

I'll be enjoying WM at my friends house on his 52' widescreen tv. 8 people so far, so it reduces costs.

It was a tough choice because the Rochester Americans are playing another game in Buffalo the same day and I missed them the first time too.
Someone has to turn heel at WM.
Lita will definitely.

That was very easy to call, once she started "training" Christy.
Ya know what's funny... HHH will win at WM.
I'm really torn on who's winning this match now.

Common sense points towards Batista winning this easily. If he doesn't, he's pretty much done as ever being a serious threat as a World Champ. And HHH obviously doesn't need to win this. He'd probably just beat Batista to get "his" belt back at SummerSlam, and catch Flair for the most World titles won.

But, Batista has been made to look stronger than HHH EVERY week coming into WM. If HHH and Ric would have beat down Dave, or got some advantage on Raw last night, I would have been 95% sure that Batista wins. But, I have a hard time believing that HHH would be made to look this weak for the buildup AND lose the big match. Plus, this would be the 2nd straight time he loses the title at WM. All that + HHH's power = I don't see him losing.

But, another factor is the JBL-Cena match. Obviously, either Cena and/or Batista have to win. Cena is gonna win the title eventually, but it doesn't necessarily have to be now. Plus, this feud hasn't been built up too well, so far. Plus, there's not really anyone for Cena to go against if he wins the title, beside Bradshaw. They could easily repeat this matchup at Judgment Day, or even GAB again with Cena winning then. And if JBL keeps the title in whatever way, Batista definitely wins.

As much as this WM seems bleh to me this year... I do have to commend WWE for having all the matches be quite unpredictable.

Traditional wrestling logic does not belie HHH. Consider the following:

After getting no heat on him, and being called everything but "$$$$$$," Booker T loses (clean!) to HHH at WMXIX.

After getting no heat on him, and playing second fiddle to Stephanie McMahon, her bulldog, and its poop, Chris Jericho lost the title to HHH at WMXVIII.

The WMXX match was the exception to the rule; the match was mostly interplay with HBK/HHH's past, and Benoit was treated as tertiary, a "fifth wheel" if you will, despite going the distance in the Royal Rumble and earning his right to a title match at WM. HBK was illegally tossed out of the Rumble this year, why didn't he demand a title match against HHH?

What's the record?

WMXII: Lost to the Ultimate Warrior (thanks to MSG)
WMXIII: Defeated Goldust
WMXIV: Defeated Owen Hart to retain the European title
WMXV: Lost to Kane by DQ
WMXVI: Defeated The Big Show, The Rock, and Mick Foley to retain the WWF Title
WMVII: Lost to the Undertaker
WMXVIII: Defeated Chris Jericho to win the Undisputed Championship
WMXIX: Defeated Booker T to retain the World Heavyweight Championship
WMXX: Lost to Chris Benoit to lose the World Heavyweight Championship

So, the tally is 5 wins and 4 losses. You might think he's due for a loss. I don't think so. He's 3 and 1 when it comes to title matches, he's the boss's son-in-law, and he's the only name left from a bygone era that's produced nary a star since then.

Batista, on the other hand, is $$$$ing awful in the ring. I don't get how people think he has all the heat in the world going into WM. So did Booker T. So did Jericho (as a heel). So did The Rock and Mick Foley (maybe even TBS). What makes Batista any different?

I'll tell you: He's an awful, awful wrestler. He can't do anything in the ring, save for a spinebuster and punches. He can't bump outside the ring, he can't put together a match to save his life. Go watch Kane/Batista from last week. Kane's okay; he's not the greatest of all time, and he's far from the worst. However, he has over 15 years of experience, so it's clear he knows his stuff. If he can't keep Batista from looking like a buffoon, who can?

HHH is brilliant; bring up guys who gain steam really quickly and make sure they can't wrestle, so HHH retaining is seen as logical, rather than manipulative. There is no good reason to give Batista the belt.

What is Batista's character? What is his motivation? There's nothing to his persona, there's nothing to his moveset, and he sure as shit can't lead another wrestler in a match. I'll admit, the suit he wore yesterday was exceptionally classy (despite the tie), but he brings nothing to the table.

myke.
...and still world heavyweight champion, HHH. Anyone want to put $5 on the line (say, Paypal)?

Not me... I've been pretty sure HHH would retain all along. The questions are now: When will HHH finally lose and who will beat him?

Certainly not Benoit and Jericho, they've already been there and been pushed back down. HBK is in no position for a serious title run at this point in his career. Kane has been held down his entire career. Edge decided that $$$$ing Lita was more important than winning the title. Christian is great, but lord knows he's not gonna be the guy to beat HHH. That really just leaves Shelton Benjamin, who in theory could be the guy as he does hold a few victories over HHH on Raw. I just can't see it though... either we're gonna have to wait for Orton to mature as a wrestler, someone from SD is going to have to jump to Raw or HHH is going to have to turn face. I think I just proved HHH is going to hold the belt until he retires...

Here's some interesting newsbit if it actually happens:

Jeff Jarrett is apparently in New York City right now and according to one source is meeting with Viacom executives. Apparently, Jarrett is indeed meeting with Viacom about getting TNA a clearance on SpikeTV, possibly on Monday night to replace the WWE programming when it leaves SpikeTV in September.

Jeff Jarrett being in New York is something we have already talked about expecting, and some people involved in his negotiation with Viacom wants WWE to know they are meeting with Jarrett since their ending of negotiations with WWE left hard feelings between the two.

It should be interesting to see what happens, because if TNA is about to secure a television slot on SpikeTV, especially on Monday nights, it could definitely lead to another Monday night war.

On a related note, there is still no official new cable deal for WWE to announce at this time.
---------------------------------

Wouldn't that be funny, as soon as WWE is off SpikeTV, TNA takes it over. Seems almost like when ECW was on the channel if it happens.

I think eventually Kane has to be the one to beat HHH. He deserves it more than anyone else right now, unless Booker T were to jump back to Raw. I have gotten to the point where regardless of who is facing HHH I can't bother watching. It is so damn pointless it isn't even funny. HHH is like the Kobe Bryant of the wrestling world.

I don't follow basketball, so please elaborate on the Kobe analogy. All I know about Kobe is that I was so sick to death of his trial, I just rejected using a Criminology text for my summer course because it cites too many celebrity trials as examples (of course, that is useful for people, but the book was also $100, and students would cut my $$$$ing throat for that).

Kane's work hasn't been up to par recently, to be honest. He had a chain match or a last man standing match (with HHH maybe?) that was incredible. That was a few years ago, however. Perhaps being stuck with 'taker and snitsky makes you forget he can work well, but I haven't seen him do much recently.

Chris Masters new world champ!!!!

...some site (pwinsider?) mentioned that Jericho may not be resigning a contract at the end of the year - I'll treat that as total idle speculation and general shit-stirring on the part of the website. Has anyone else heard about this however? I'd be interested to see if he does indeed leave (though he'll resign, just like everybody else).

myke.
I guess I'm in the minority here that thinks Batista is going to win the belt at Mania.
Although I'm all for some new people being World champ instead of Triple H(who really needs to take a break off TV for awhile). Triple H will probably win with the stroke that he's got with the company.

It won't happen.

Spike dumped RAW because they want to change their image from the "guy channel" to showing 100 repeats of CSI, or whatever crap they show.

Plus, if any cable channel actually PAYS to put TNA on their channel... they're quite thick. Still possible, though.
Traditional wrestling logic does not belie HHH. Consider the following:

All logic went to shit in that match... as there's no way HHH should have won that.

Hell, that match against Booker is the main reason I think HHH wins against Batista.

Batista isn't the greatest wrestler... so?

Just look back at 2002 when Hogan/Taker/HHH right after his return from quad injury. All the matches were absolutely dreadful.

It's all about being over. And judging from the crowd at Raw last night... Batista is crazy over. The main question is if that's going to last after this feud with HHH...
What is Batista's character? What is his motivation? There's nothing to his persona, there's nothing to his moveset, and he sure as shit can't lead another wrestler in a match. Batista is a moster, but a cool guy who dresses well... and wants to beat the crap out of HHH for using for so long. I agree... what will Batista do AFTER HHH that will make people care?

But, let's look at HHH's character. His ENTIRE character is "I-uh win all the time! I'm the greatest ever! I made you! Blah blah blah!". There's heels that are cocky and go on about how they're the greatest... and most fans laugh at them. But with HHH, everyone KNOWS HE'S RIGHT because he ALWAYS comes out on top at the end. All the wrestlers know he's right. It's incredibly stupid to have a character like that.

Well, I agree that the HHH character is simlarly one-dimensional; however, there is at least something there. HHH is willing to do anything to keep the title. There's not much more (sledgehammers do not a cerebral assasin make).

I forgot about the post WM-X8 debacle; I watched that year's Judgment Day, and vividly recall the horrible chokeslam at the end. You have a valid point there.

Hogan, however, came back from beatdowns; that's what the crowd went nuts over. I can't see Batista being booked in the same kinds of matches - part of his character is that he should not be phyiscally bested by anybody. If you can't wrestle that way, then, you need to learn how to work, and Batista is nowhere near ready (and, if he isn't now, I doubt he ever will be).

Interesting that you think Batista will win b/c of the WMXIX match; I think it's the reason HHH will retain.

Good points, though.

myke.
$$$$ Goldberg.

Only 5 more days until I attend my first ever PPV... WrestleMania 21 in Hollywood!
thou shall never insult goldberg again!!!!

Hey, after all you've done for the regulars here, I've sworn off insulting Goldberg - at least for one month.

myke.
...When will America learn to love Bob Sapp?

HHH and bradshaw will win at WM XXI. They will cheat, no clean wins. Cena and maybe Batista will win in a rematch at the next PPV. Booker T, RVD, Jericho and maybe Mysterio should get a title run in the future, because the shows are getting boring.

I liked Goldberg when he debuted in September 1997 until he faced Hollywood Hogan for the World Title in July 1998. I was mostly a mark then, so I loved Goldberg. But once he went up against the nWo, all bets were off. Then he injured my favorite wrestler ever, Bret Hart, so I said "$$$$ him".

Anyway... is anyone else going to WrestleMania? I just wanted to know if any other CAGs would be there. I'm also looking to share a hotel room perhaps since I don't have a car and the Metrolink doesn't run back to Riverside until the morning after the show.
