Animal Crossing: City Folk - Gen. Discussion and info

Does anyone know if the table trick will work in this game? The table trick is where you can lay turnips on tables and they won't expire, I believe. I don't think I've done it before, but hopefully the trick works.

*sigh* Have to wait until Tuesday to see the prices for Tom Nook, as he will be renovating tomorrow as well. I may just time travel to tomorrow then back to this day. It will screw up the bulletein board for like a day which is good.

I only bought a couple things, then resold them but for less than what i bought. I sold a few fish but it wasnt much more than what Nook will give ya for them.

When i looked at my friends list, only 1 had a heart by them, does this mean they also added me?

It could possibly mean they are online, but I don't know if that's necessarily true, as I haven't gone online yet with the game.

Offtopic: It's getting freakin' cold....

I got my turnips on the floor in my house--LOL--they should be fine UNTIL Sunday, right?

Also, I planted a red turnip. If I water this everyday, I can pull it on Saturday or Sunday? How much does it sell for?

Wait you only have to water red turnips?

I don't know how much a red turnip sells for being fully grown.

Joanne I think said to sell your white turnips before Sunday, like Saturday before tom nook's closes.

It probably sells for 5000 the red turnip, possibly 1000.... lol....

I hopefully will be able to get double what I paid for with the white turnip if not oh well.

My Nook is (finally) upgrading tomorrow as well. To me it sounds like spend/sell X amount of bells and wait one week, as there are several of us who I know who have been active getting Nook's upgraded around now.

I checked out the flea market in one or two houses this morning, but anything I wanted, they wouldn't sell me.

Mine still hasn't upgraded

In WW you traded the red turnip to set off more trades with the special characters
Give Wendell the red turnip for a Country Guitar or Turban
Give K. K. Slider the Country Guitar to get his picture.
Give Sahara the Turban to get a Red Vase or Massage Chair.
Give Redd the vase to get a safe.
Give Tom Nook the safe to get his picture.
Give the Mayor the massage chair to get a scallop.
Give the scallop to Pascal to get the golden axe or his picture.

My neighbors are such liars.

Neighbor: Ohh, I want your bed, how much?
Me: 5,000 bells.
Neighbor: That's too much!
Me: 4,000 bells.
Neighbor: That's too much!
Me: 3,000 bells.
Neighbor: That's too much!
Me: 2,500 bells.
Neighbor: That's too much!
Me: 2,000 bells.
Neighbor: That's too much!
Me: Screw this. It's mine.
Neighbor: You know you could have set any price and I would have bought it.
Me: ....

Anyone understand the auction house in the city at all? I mean you get a time to display stuff, then a time to bid on stuff.. Umm wtf? I mean seriously, the gyroid there is a auction nazi, he won't let you do anything...

I must say anyone know why the shoe shine boy sits in front of a abandoned building? I think if you pay a certain amount of bells to him he may upgrade it to a building... That's just hoping though.

Does anyone miss the way the original Animal Crossing was? I remember the town well, and stuff. The police station, oh those were the days. Then the train, it was pretty cool. I'm quite glad that this game has some changes, but maybe the next one in the series could create new things, instead of just basically copying Animal Crossing Wild Work, and making it a console port. Not complaining just saying.

I'm glad you don't have to pay to design something like you used to have to. That's pretty cool. I didn't pay 500 or something bells for the special design creator, anyone know what it is?

Flea Market is decent, this month it won't be so good since we really just got the game, maybe next month though. Funny how some mushrooms are crap, while others can be worth a lot. Example: Elegant Mushroom:10k, holy crap...

Here's how I heard the auction house works:
-Anything you put up for bids will also been seen in your friends' auction houses.
-You will see anything your friends have put in the auction house.
-It's a blind auction
-Depending on how many friends you have, you can have a lot of bids. Not to mention, if you bid on an item your friend put up, his friend's, that you may not know, can bid on it too.

Yeah.. something like that, haha.

the basic designer lets you make shirts that were like in the cube and ww version that basically paste the design all over the shirt. with the pro design you can make the front, back and sleeves of the shirts all look different.

So my kids wanted to bust out the original AC today and that's all they've been playing...

Interesting note - the first thing my 11 year-old daughter said when it started up is that the graphics are horrible compared to the new game. So anyone who says it hasn't changed at all is full of it...

They are having fun, though, going into their various houses and seeing what's there. My son (the loud one, Strell) had a fully-upgraded house completely filled with fish ... My daughter had a mailbox full of presents - from her birthday last Feb. And as for the animals in the town - we STILL have some of the original ones from when we started that game in Dec. 2003.

Has anyone been able to catch a walkingstick? I see them on trees on occasions, but before I even have a chance to pull my net out they disappear...

Walkingstick? Nope. I'm still trying to catch the fish that are gone after Nov (char, neon tetra). =[

I'm really tempted to start a new character just so I can put my turnips in their house.

[quote name='suko_32']I hate you.[/QUOTE]

I got another tuna. Just kidding!

Actually, finally got a neon tetra and a walkingstick. With the walking stick, it really helps if you approach the tree from the front and slowly make your way forward, and be quick about swinging the net. If you get too close, or come from behind its hard to be quick and it'll disappear.

For this month, I think I'm just missing guppy, orchard mantis, and violin beetle. Just need to ax some trees before the end of November.

I need Tuna and Neon Tetra for fishes. :whistle2:(

I need the lobster, tetra, char, and guppy. For insects, just the violin beetle and walkingstick. I actually saw two walkingsticks after you pointed them out, BlueLobstah, but failed to net them. I'm so inaccurate; I'd swing and hit the ground. Haha

Gates are open if anyone needs oranges. Probably be on for a few hours. Got some peaches from MNL earlier so waiting for those to grow. Looking for any other fruits! My wireless network has been acting up quite a bit today, but I think it's settled down for now.

I'll come take some oranges and leave some apples. =d
EDIT: I don't think I'm on your friend's list. Your town isn't showing up =/

If you guys don't know this yet, but you can grow money trees I believe with the golden shovel. I am currently doing that with 1000 bell bags, to see if it works. If it does you will get 3000 in the end most likely. I remember doing something like that in the original Animal Crossing except you could only do it in the golden spot.

I forget, but can you connect your Wii through a wire connection? If so then I can go online with you guys. ^_^

I caught two Koi today thought that was pretty exciting. Next year I'll try to fill the museum up with stuff, I have to pay my house off first though. I will admit that I did "hack" a bit today, time surfed to get my Nook upgraded to Nook N' Go, I would not be able to wait tomorrow, as I'd have to try and survive after school not being able to sell stuff.

Tomorrow will be a slow day for people, no way to make cash. :(

Really? Wow... They changed the mechanics of that since the first game. >.<

It's not that hard to make cash in this game anymore, today I got a lot of kiddy stuff thanks to my town resident Bob. His house was modeled in the HRA room, so I decided better take some of his kiddy stuff, lol.

The flea market was eh, today. Low prices, but that means I had to go low as well. I got the coolest mask ever today, The clown mask! Half side is white with black lips, the other side is black with white lips. WOOT! Plus I got a tuxedo as I was kind of going for that Joker type look, lol.

[quote name='suko_32']1000 bells would give you a 1% of growing a money tree I believe.[/quote]
Yes. There's a handy money making guide on GameFAQs, here's part of it:

First off, he rambles a bit.
Finally. It's here. MONEY TREES!!! yay. whatever. To grow one of these, you
first need a golden shovel. This will take about two days. Buy a shovel. Got
it? Good. Now buy another shovel, like the next day or something. Got it?
Good. Now bury one shovel with the first shovel, and just leave it. The idea
is to wait at least 24 hours before you dig the second shovel up again. Before
exactly that and this won't work. After your 24 hours, dig it back up and it
will be a golden shovel. This would bring down the value of gold to nothing
in a matter of hours if the media found out, so don't tell. After you've
gotten the golden shovel, dig a hole. I know, you're tired of it. Suck it up.
Now the interesting part. See, if you bury a money bag in this hole, there's a
chance that it will grow into a tree that bears 3 bags containing the same
amount of bells that was in the buried bag. But there's a catch. It might not
grow AND the maximum you can get is three 30,000 bell bags, or 90,000 bells,
for our less mathematically gifted viewers. So burying over 90,000 bells is
pretty much pointless. Also, if you bury 1,000 bells, there's a 1% chance a
money tree will grow. A tree will grow regardless, but it might not have money
on it. If you bury 10,000 bells, on the other hand, there's a 10% chance a
money tree will grow. 50,000 buried bells equals a 50% chance of growth, and
so on. Every thousand bells adds one percent chance of growth to your overall
chance. Got it? Good. Keep in mind that the tree won't grow more than 90,000
bells, though. Also, it will not regrow bells like a normal fruit tree.

UPDATE

I realize that even though I explained the system as best as I could, money
trees are still pretty darn confusing. So here's a chart to help you better
understand:

Code:
Amount Buried Amount Tree Produces % Chance of Successful Growth

1k 3k 1%

yeah I added you, thanks for letting me know! I have some peaches and cherries planted, but feel free to drop in for oranges if there's space.

[quote name='lilboo']COCONUTS, SHARE!

[/QUOTE]

Shut up Neon Tetra catcher!

Actually I would, but I already planted one and sold the other without thinking. You can have one the next time it grows. It should be about 3-4 days since they take longer.

I got some coconuts too!

I also ended up TT some more today just so Nook would reopen, and I now have a axe and slingshot.

Gates are open for probably another 30 minutes or so - shops are still open, as well.

EDIT: It looks like quite a few people that I've added haven't put me on their roster yet. If you happen to add me, please send me a PM so I can make sure that you're on my list (unless you've already done so, in which case thanks!)...with the roster limit at a low 32, I'm probably going to run out of room sooner rather than later, so I'd be glad to bump someone off the roster who hasn't added me yet.

I decided a while ago to not upgrade my house for now and just focus on getting Nook's place to upgrade to phase 3 and getting a bridge and fountain built. So far it's going great! Though, the fountain part will take a while. I'll have a grand opening :)

im curious to know how the bridge, fountain and windmill/lighthouse will work. hopefully you can pick the spot for all 3. i have the perfect spot for the bridge. im really hoping the fountain and windmill go into one of the "neighbor spots" of your choice.

Based on what I've read, the bridge has 3 preselected spots you can vote for. As for the fountain, it goes near the bus stop. I can personally confirm the bridge though. It'll take a while to build unfortunately. I hope I get the spot I want.

Those animals need to work faster.... FASTER I SAY!

Anyone know the time for Nook N' Go? Like when it opens and closes?

I know it closes at 1am which is the latest any of them close. It almost makes me want to not buy anything from him just so it will be open later.

I'm not sure on the opening time though.
