Animal Crossing: City Folk - Gen. Discussion and info

Well, I never run, and there are paths EVERYWHERE. It's so ugly.
 
Yeah, we went through the paths thing with Io a few posts back.

It's meant to give the impression that your town is "lived in," but since all it really does is erase the grass texture and replace it with the sand/ground texture, it doesn't look clean. It looks like mud prints at first, and then like mud, and then finally like you're (as Hank Hill would say) a drunk.

Now if they'd rendered all the grass in 3D and then have small pathways emerge from bent grass into sandy trails, it would look awesome.

As it stands, it's like something Peter Molyneux would think up and hype beyond belief as proof he doesn't suck.

I'm also missing the Centipede..where do you get that?

As for fish, I haven't caught the mighty beast because it hasn't fuckin rained yet, AND a damn Popeyed Goldfish :lol:
 
I saw that you guys talked about the paths and stuff, but I haven't been hit with them until now, so now I know how bad it is! It would be nice if they had let Wisp the ghost get rid of the paths, or if you could plant grass, blah blah blah. I think having trees and flowers is supposed to restore the grass in Spring.

Lilboo, in Wild World, Lantern Flies could be found from June to September. The Dung Beetles were near snowballs. Centipedes can be found by hitting rocks.
 
There's a lot of "There should be ___" in this game, and that's how Animal Crossing has been. The funny thing is, this is the third installment so you'd think there would be some things that "should have been".. um.. "BEEN" ?

But it's a Nintendo game, so, I'm learning to accept mediocrity & half ass games :cool:

Apparently, it randomly pops up in December, then doesn't show up until late summer.

Centipedes are supposed to be under rocks, but I have yet to see one yet.

We all know they were very lazy with this game. It feels like they ported the DS game (if that's possible), and added things to it so it feels or looks like a different game. They did have the chance to add a LOT to it, but did not take that chance. I don't think Nintendo makes mediocre or half-assed games, though.

The Wifi aspect is what makes this game fun; and that was in the DS version. The only reason I LOVE this game is because I love Animal Crossing. I love what it is, and I yearn for more. I fell right into their trap. :(

Supposed to be on trees. I assume centipede is same as pillbug, but I don't have any idea really.

It's win-win for me though, since this is my first Animal Crossing.
 
I've caught a few centipedes and yes, they are like pill bugs. Hit a rock and they come out and scare the shit out of you. :lol:
 
Ill only be signed on 2 min so I just need to say one thing: no cag turnip entry fee this or any other week. I was considering doing this myself earlier but I realized cags charging cags is pure evil.

Yep, 32. I never quite figured out why exactly we have limits on Friend Codes. Maybe to keep the save file under a certain amount of blocks? Anyone happen to know the average number of FC's you can have in other WFC enabled games? I know Brawl had 64, I doubt that being a dual layer disc or whatever would have an effect on the FC limit, but I know nothing about anything regarding data, space, etc.

You know what... I'll just leave it alone, I'm not even maxed out anyway. This goes back to the whole Nintendo vs. online gaming argument that ultimately goes nowhere :roll:

Well I got in on the Animal crossing deal on amazon and I can't wait to try this out also I have a cousin comming over for christmas so I was wondering if the game allows people to play on the same game together or is it only one at a time like with the gamecube one and the DS one?

If I can't play with him that's fine I got a few party games and no more heroes to show him..

You can't play multiplayer on the same console, so it's the same as the other versions unfortunately.

I'm considering selling my DS version... I doubt I would ever play it again, considering I have to start over for the Wii one. I think I could probably get twenty-ish on fleabay.

I hit the max on FCs last night. Ended up trashing a few that still didn't have the heart sign. Probably going to trash a few more from people that aren't showing up frequently in/on here. Then I added some guy who....well I don't think he's a CAG, so he might get baleeted also.

I'm almost positive FC limits are due to keeping save files small. Which strikes me as dumb for a few reasons. The first is that it's just text data - it can't take up much space at all, and I imagine you could have infinite lists within 1-2 blocks at the most. It really should be a "you can expand if you want" sort of thing.

The second is that this is just another example of Nintendo not getting the fact that storage space is a big deal, and they could solve it in any number of ways. The first? Unified FC/names like everyone else uses, so we don't need to worry about it on a per-game basis, effectively cutting the space needed down by several times. It's much like how each VC game comes packaged with the emulator to play it - why not just force a download of all the emulators and remove it from the ROM? That'd cut down on space too.

If they actually did both of these things, I'm betting the number of people with storage issues would drop by half, actually. That wouldn't solve the problem....and actually I guess it would fuel their insane fire that it's not a problem to begin with....

On a related note, I wish they'd cut out some of the "fluff" of AC. When I take a pic, it should save automatically to an SD card. When I pick money up off the ground, it should add to my wallet automatically. I know Japanese gamers are more forgiving of monotonous actions (hence their love of RPGs OH SNAP YES I DID I WENT THERE), but seriously - let's cut out some of the more miscellaneous, unneeded commands.

WHY CAN'T I THROW LETTERS AWAY IN MY HOUSE? Son of a bitch.

I thought that's what happened! I thought at LEAST I'd snap several photos and it would go into an album, and THEN I'd be able to choose which ones to save..I lost so many pics when I first started playing because I just assumed it would go into some kind of album...:lol: :cry:
 
It's a little thing...until, say, Musicnoteless starts sayin' somethin' dumb, and I want to chronicle the whole thing, but I can't snap and save fast enough because he's showing off his 41 wpm typing speed.

Or during a KK Suridah show.

There should also be an option for movies to be recorded. The whole problem stems from storage issues. Assuming Nintendo experiences electroshock therapy before their next system, I'd really love to think they'd implement the ability for me to record such things. I mean, especially with AC and Brawl - these are two games built on the idea that funny stuff happens, and it's fun to share with friends.

This is why the Shovel Crew reigns supreme.

Bah. Oh well. Maybe they'll actually attempt to add that in when they rehash this game 3 years from now.

Turnips are currently selling in my town for 142 bells. I left my town open if anyone is interested.

Sahara is also in my town, but I'm not sure if anyone from out of town can interact with him? Additionally, my charm for this month is catching centipedes, so get to centipeding!
 
turnips are going for 75 bells. I will be charging 1 football fish and the first new born baby of your town as entrance fee to get in on this deal.
 
I still got the 4,000 bag, but I remember getting my 1000 bag after like 3 hits followed up by 2 2,000 bells and a 4,000.

There's always a stupid method to doing it, like hair colors in AC:WW (I haven't tried hair colors in CF yet, but I assume it's the same thing). Look on a message board or a dedicated site for AC.

My Nook's is remodeling tomorrow, so I'll have to go online if I really want to do some stuff. I will finally be able to buy a Slingshot and Axe starting in 2 days (Cranny never has them in my town).
 
Gah the hair stylist in the city is cheap, she makes you try and guess what each color is for your char... 3000 bells can be wasted or well spent depending.
 
Stupid Kicks, I told him to match my style and he gave me the ugliest pair of purple and white sneakers with red and orange polka dot socks.

He made it up to me by matching my color and gave me cool white shoes with a red and white stripe to match the blue stripes on my white shirt and my 3D (red and blue) glasses.
