Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Did anyone else here pick up Codename: Sailor V and/or Sailor Moon? It seems to be doing really well, judging by the book stores I've been to. Sailor Moon has been sold out and Codename: Sailor V (which you really should buy along with Moon) has had only 1-2 copies left.

I picked up the Sailor Moon manga. It was a good time.

As for the anime, I own the first 3 seasons. It's one of the best magical girls, I think. You might want to wait awhile before picking it up. With the manga being rereleased, the anime may follow.
that series is awesome as is the second season so far. i like strange animes like that btw does anyone know how far naruto and bleach animes are into the manga storylines?
I really enjoyed Baka & Test. I found it funny and enjoyable.

You could get a ridiculous amount for the first 3 seasons assuming those are the us releases. It looked too cute and girlish to me when I first saw it on toonami. I may pick it up if I like the first couple of eps but Idk if I want it on my shelf for the whole world to see.

Yeah, I know. I do have the original US releases (ADVs release of the first two seasons and Geneon's release of S). I also have the original run of the Cardcaptor Sakura DVDs which would also get me a ridiculous amount. There might be a bit of a pattern there.

Well there was some talk of a rerelease by funimation at thier panel some month ago but they said they where waiting for the merge to complete before they got ahold of all the materials. I am hopefull though, I am liking this new trend of bluray/dvd combo packs funimations been doing, but I also don't care for some of my favorite show slipping by funimation without any dubbing. And I am also kinda excited for the new dbz on blu ray not to be confused with Dragon ball kai on blu ray or any of the other 5 or 6 re-releases of dbz over the years. (Pioneer, Uncut, Remastered, Dragon box, and Kai)

Just ordered the Baccano Limited Edition Bluray Box set from Rightstuf.com. Gotta say a great show but rightstuf has such a shitty outdated sight. It reminds me of something you would have run into when internet shoping was first born.
Anyone have any recommendations for a manga to read that hasn't been turned into an anime?
Check out Eden:It's a Endless World.

Sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

Thanks for the recommendation
Finished Gunslinger Girl after a 2 month Hiatus. (Or at least it felt like 2 months.)
About to start Ghost in the Shell. :whee:
Been meaning to watch gunslinger girls, Ghost in the shell is a very good show, Im currently watching Ergo Proxy.

Man those series from geneon that still haven't been picked up by funimation or anyone are a bitch to find, I just got ahold of ergo proxy, higurashi, and tenchi Muya ova. Now I am on the lookout for the others before they are impossible to find, Black lagoon, and a few others.

Before you spend exorbitant amounts of money, you should probably read what I said earlier:
Actually, Funimation still has the licenses for Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate, and Shakugan no Shana. They apparently intend to re-release them "but not for a while."
I know funimation has many of these titles but they are only planning on releasing ones they deem to be worth while. I have high hopes for black lagoon and they have already let some of the licences expire. I am not sure if they will really release all of them so I plan on getting my favorites as I see them pop up at decent prices. Hopefully they will make some announcements soon when the Geneon merger if finally finished.

I think you missed the part where I said Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate, and Shakugan no Shana will get re-released, haha. As for the other Geneon licenses in license limbo, who knows what's going on with them.

To make matters clearer, I bestow upon you this wisdom: http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1873622&postcount=1

Thanks for linking that list, I saw a similar one somewhere else but lost track of it, I am hoping for a Black Lagoon DVD/Bluray Limited edition. Ive been liking the new trend in funi releases.

Starting to hate Funimation with all of their re-releases.Bought like all of the DBZ steelbooks for the movies and the tv specials they released like 3-4 years ago I think it was.First seperate dvds and sure that seems alright, then on the steelbooks remastered and everything sure sounds great. Then on Blu-Ray, sure I suppose so why not upscale it.Now they're releasing the movies again in sets although this time 1-5 and again remastered and everything.Hopefully they aren't any better then the ones I've already got and no extra special features, but then again its funimation so no worries from the special features point of view.

Theres the thing with the orange boxes, and then the dragon boxes, and then DBZKai.Although they didn't get the rights to the dragonboxes at first but they did like 2 years later and DBZKai I suppose is another show since without the filler.

Yu Yu Hakusho seems to be the same, you had the saga boxsets, and then season boxsets, and then the blu-ray release, and then the season boxsets again on standard dvd.

Just would be nice for them to get it right the first time even they've had the technology to do it right and still somehow messed it up :(.

Link to movies 1-5.Hopefully its just one of those bargain deal things.

I forsee a re-release box set of the DBZ level blu-rays for they are numbered level 1.1, 1.2, I can easily see a complete Level 1 box set eventually.

Does anyone have any info about the Samurai Champloo releases?Sometime this year they another dvd/blu-ray boxset and from what I've heard from the first release of the boxsets that first blu-ray boxset removed some detail when trying to buff out the grain and that the dvd version was better due to this despite more dvds and the upscale wasn't so great.Pic of the first blu-ray boxset below and the newer one below it.Anyone know about the 2nd one?

I'd figure its better as most 2nd releases tend to be but any info about it on how the converting process went if it looks better on blu-ray compared to dvd despite being made in standard definition?Hopefully no detail loss this time around?Any extra special features worth noting or just the standard art gallery and trailers?

Since the last time I posted, I ended up watching:
K-ON! episodes 9-11 (didn't find them as funny as the earlier episodes personally, but still good)

D Gray-man episodes 14-26 (Still good, but not really great)

SKET Dance (caught up now on all episodes. The SKET x Gintama episode was really awesome)

Gundam 00 S1 (really awesome, I enjoyed it a ton finishing the whole thing. Brought me back into loving Gundam)

Gundam 00 S2 (really awesome again. Certain scenes were a bit emotional. Battles were again great)

Gundam 00 A Wandering of the Trailblazer (Didn't like it as much as the TV series, but still really liked the movie)

Durarara!! (episodes 1-12 completed so far. Beyond awesome so far. Love how weird and different it is. Ending theme "Trust Me" is too awesome)

Hunter x Hunter (started episode 1 of the remake)

I also picked up more anime such as Gundam Unicorn 1-3 (yes, I spent all that money, haha), Kaze No Stigma, Ghost Hunt, Air Gear, etc.

With manga, I was finished through .Hack//LINK (as far as the US print goes). I am a .Hack fan so it fits. Don't know which manga I'll read next which I have.

One of my buddies mentioned to me that Funimation started doing "new" (you know what I mean, new translated episodes) of Shin Chan. Is this true? If so, that is badass. Must see them.

I picked my the

Limited edition baccano blu ray set ( great show and the blu rays look amazing)
Yu yu hakusho box set 1 blu ray (same as above)
One piece box set 1 and 2 on dvd (A great value compared to old releases)

Finished watching Solty Rei and it was rather terrible. The story doesn't get explained until the last three episodes, so all the episodes before the final three you have no idea of the motivations behind the major plot points. The only worthwhile episode is the last one, all the rest are hard to watch (since you have no idea who/why is going on) and usually depressing (so many scenes of the male protagonist drinking himself near to death). At least the overall message of the series, class equality and the value of family, comes across if you watch the entire thing.

I'm disappointed Funimation isn't doing a dub for Familiar of Zero S2 and 3:

Supposedly sales of S1 were bad. Sure this series is fluff but it's enjoyable fluff, I thought it would do well here...

Started reading Fairy Tail and really enjoying it so far.

Much like you, I am also disappointed that they dropped Higurashi and Familiar of Zero. I'm sure that also much like you, I'm not at all surprised either.

It always seemed like Funimation just grabbed up whatever they could get their hands on that would require the least amount of effort to sell. They'd either just release what was already done, or just crank them out in a new package and then forget about them until the license expired. Not that I think the idea was wrong (I have Higurashi, Familiar, Fate, Shana, Pumpkin Scissors, and Karin; all w/ Funimation's tiny logo on them) it was just disappointing.

Main problem I have with Funimation complaining about low sales is I never saw the When They Cry & Familiar of Zero sets under $55 even when they were released. So the main reason was due to them selling it at a higher price than the other stuff Funimation had licensed. Not to mention it seemed like both box sets had a very low print run.

If they really wanted to try to boost sales, they would do what they're doing with their old licenses. They'd release a S.A.V.E. edition for $30-$35. Surely that would've had a boost in sales.

Nonsense. Higurashi actually got two different set releases from Funimation, and hit $30 quite regularly (I think I paid $20-something for mine through a DeepDiscount sale), and Familiar of Zero even went as low as $13 (a preorder price, also through DeepDiscount).

Anyone read the latest Naruto? I kinda had a feeling it was going to happen but I was still surprised by it. Great none the less, I hope there is are no holidays for next week last thing I want is a delay in the manga.

I was getting bored with the war but this has potential if for no other reason then
Madara was a super ninja among super ninja, I expect him to kick ass and take names

Speaking of Shin Chan I started watching it on Netflix and it's pretty much the greatest thing ever. I wish Season 3 was on it, but since it's not I might just buy it.

Bored? Really? You want to talk about boring what about the anime, it has taken a turn for the worse with some bad filler episodes. As for the manga the only complaint I have is that I have to wait a whole week just so I can read a couple pages, that kills me.

Shippuden 's pacing has been almost destroyed at times thanks to filler being interwoven even in canon episodes and now that we are in outright filler I haven't bothered watching it. I'm bored with the manga plot armor is protecting everyone during this fight , enemies babbling about their weaknesses and Naruto pulling the superman routine all combined to make a really uninteresting story.

Actually that is what I like the most that Naruto is all superman and not this "i cant control my power" crap.

Bleach was at its best when Kurosaki had control over his powers and now sucks with the beginning of the latest arc, now that he is all bad ass again it might more interesting.
