Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!
Huh? I don't understand. So does that mean you didn't like it?
It was good, but not great. I mean, more than half the show is just
the guy redoing the same 5 days over and over again with absolutely no progress.

I just hate time travel with a fiery passion that would blind the sun if it had eyes.

Blasphemer!

Ahem, I mean, that's a shame. I don't agree that more than half of the show was
"the guy redoing the same 5 days over and over again with absolutely no progress"
but that's okay. I felt that there was a lot more than that, such as
setting up the story, sending all the D-mails, trying to save Mayuri, undoing the D-mails, and then saving Kurisu and the world. As the future Okabe says near the end, Okabe had to go through all of that in order to save Kurisu and the world.
.

Maybe it's because you hate time travel as much as you said. Although, I think this is one of the best time travel stories I've experienced; there aren't any holes in the story from the use of time travel that I can think of — I'm confident that everything was important and accounted for.

Finally watched Eden of the East and really enjoyed it. I'm planning on getting the blu's for the two movies as well.

Edit: Black Friday sounds like a good time to purchase them.

Hell, right now is a good time to purchase the series. Amazon has a preorder up for a new Blu-ray/DVD combo pack for $25.99, last I checked. That's a steal!

Silly me, I didn't scroll down far enough. I saw it on rightstuf but didn't see it on Amazon ealier today. Preordered, thanks.

Wait. Did you want to purchase the TV series or the movies? Or both? I'm pretty sure the new Eden of the East collection only comes with the TV series.

Both. I'll probably pick up Movie I on amazon for $14.99 and may wait a bit on Movie II even though it's only $19.99, which is still pretty cheap.

On the other hand, I did preorder all three Madoka LE's off Rightstuf. Goodbye $225.

Re-reading the two lines above made me lol a little too.

Finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and it was outstanding. The first few episodes I was thinking that the original TV series was better, but then the story opens up and goes in a very different direction. I would still recommend new comers to watch the original TV series first, then Conqueror of Shamballa movie, then Brotherhood series. Loved the ending of Brotherhood, and very glad that it is an actual ending rather than leaving an opening for a movie :3

Also finished watching Baka and Test. It was funnier than I expected and an easy rec for fans of school life comedies.

I've already watched all 3 episodes, I just can't get enough Yuno.

Also, some people are saying Guilty Crown's OP is better than Mirai Nikki's... I call bullshit.

I haven't started watching Future Diary yet, but I did just finish reading the manga in preparation for the show. And you are so wrong; the best character in Future Diary is, without a doubt, Minene — it's not even a contest.

As for the manga, I didn't hate it this time around, haha. The last time I posted about it was after I finished volume six, right after it came out. Well, I kept buying Tokyopop's releases and I decided to start over and read the whole series in preparation for watching the show. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the twists and turns; it gets pretty damn crazy and the suspense always kept things interesting. As for the ending, it didn't live up to everything before it; it felt pointless and pretty dumb, but whatever.

Need anyone who has seen the first season of School Rumble to help. I've tried watching the first four episodes and finding it incredibly boring. Should I stick with it or just drop it & sell off the set?

Just wondering, since I'll stick with it if it gets better. But if it doesn't improve that much, I'd rather just move on, sell it & use the money towards something else. Especially since it looks like I can get a decent chunk of change on Amazon & Ebay.

the water 7 arc and the one after it are some of the most pure and excellent shonen anime eps every created. prepare to enjoy.

I recently finished (what Netflix has for) baka and test, which I felt was playful and interesting - the concept was somewhat unique and most of the characters were likable.

I also completed Demon King Daimao, which was also pretty fun. Never caught a break, that guy...

I liked Shouko best. Her interactions with Yuji were hilarious!

Yeah, Demon King Daimao (what a silly way to translate the name!) was pretty fun. The story shifts into warp speed near the end, which was confusing, but it was still pretty crazy nonetheless. If there's one thing I'm gonna forever remember about Demon King Daimao though, it's that god damn sea cucumber, haha. You know what I'm talking about.

Try Canti: http://www.bitcake.com/?page=project_canti
There isn't a profile for Touchpad, but you should be good if you specify your device as an iPad.

Canti will be replaced soon by MangAI (with much improved AI), but it won't be ready for at least 2 more weeks since I'm switching servers and have to redo the website + licensing server code.

Not sure what the best reader on Touchpad is. You may want to check out the Android port (just google "Touchpad Android") so you can get a comic reader from the Android app store.
Finished watching Berserk last night around 3am.
Maaaaan that ending, I have to read the manga now.
The ending shouldn't of been a surprise since the whole show was basically the prologue, like in the manga.Great show even though it was really toned down compared to the manga.

Now I just finish reading volume 1 of Gantz, and it's so fucking ridiculous yet awesome so far.

the ending of berserk completely screwed me since i came into a marathon showing of it at ep 2. i literally had no idea what was coming...man i was disappointed.

i read ahead in the manga a bit some time later and wasn't impressed...the author's best work was clearly in the beginning.

gantz was pretty goddamned amazing and crazy...again though i feel like all the best work is in the beginning.

I disagree with that.Am on volume 19 of Berserk now and so far it's pretty constancy throughout. Now I thought the whole golden age arc could've been a bit shorter, but it did a excellent job at establishing Gut's character. Most mangas at this point would bore me,but Berserk hasn't done that yet.

Thank you! Finally someone else that understands that Yuno + Yukiteru is an awful couple. Even though I enjoyed re-reading/reading the manga this time, I still abhor the scene in the first volume where
Yukiteru and Yuno are making out while there's flames and a dead body in the background.

Yeah, Tiger & Bunny and Hanasaku Iroha are pretty good. I think both shows sometimes suffer from pacing problems and inconsistent writing, but overall, I quite enjoyed them.

How could you think they were a good couple? Yuno is so fucking insane. She
kidnaps Yuki and chains him to a chair. She thinks about killing his parents and friends.
But really, there is no girl in the series for Yuki, they're all insane. Yuno is the worst though.

I didn't think they were a good couple, but it seems like a lot of people love Yuno for some reason. Maybe they're infatuated by her appearance, or maybe they actually like her insane personality.

By the way, since you went and read the manga, what did you think of the ending?

Well obviously she's popular because how ridiculous she is, but that's what I'm judging the show on -- not because it doesn't fit my definition of what makes a good relationship. It's a crazy girl and an uncertain nervous-wreck of a boy, I understand the concept they are going for and I'm open to it. But it's a tired formula and this particular show tries to take a crack at it and fails miserably.

Sorry, I meant to write "how could anyone" not "you". I guess I got distracted.

I love Yuno. She's an awesome character.

As for the ending, I had mixed feelings.
I think it would have been better had they left it at Yuki becoming God and the universe being destroyed. Yuno breaking into the area with Yuki with a hammer was a little dumb. But, at least that universe's Yuno shouldn't be so crazy.

Another thing that bother me about the story is how insane 9 was in the beginning. She just blew up tons of people in the school for little reason. Then her personality did a complete 180 for seemingly no reason to the point where she was helping Yuki through out most of the series.

Maybe couple wasn't the right word, but I just don't like Yuno and her love for Yukiteru. A crazy girl and a loser is a tired formula? I don't think the whole story rests on Yukiteru and Yuno, though they are the central characters; it's a pretty fun train ride of suspense and twists, even if I didn't like Yuno and Yukiteru was sometimes annoying,

You do? I'm not against insane characters, but Yuno is so damn annoying, haha. My discontent mainly stems from her blind love for Yukiteru, which infects every part of her and ruins her for me. An example of an insane character that I do love is the Rail Tracer from Baccano — now that's an awesome, insane character, haha.

Ending Stuff:
Yeah, that breaking through the universe with a hammer thing was really damn weird, and Yukiteru acting all depressed for 10,000 years because Yuno is gone was lame. It just felt like the author couldn't figure out how to end it. I did like that Ninth came back to help Yukiteru, (which I thought was set up pretty well by Deus), and I like that she got a happy ending with Nishijima.

As for Ninth, whaaaaaaaat? She's my favorite character, and I think her change in character is one the reasons. It didn't feel abrupt to me at all; it was gradual and natural. She starts off as a crazy killer, but she changes over the course of the story thanks to Yukiteru and Nishijima. Also, I don't know if you read Future Diary Mosaic, but it further cemented Ninth as my favorite, despite one or two of the side stories being completely silly (I'm looking at you,
beauty pageant
).

The love was far from blind.
Yuno's parents locked her up in a cage. Yuki gave her some comfort during those years with the whole stargazing/marriage conversation. Also, remember, Yuno is from the first universe, she had already gone through this game with Yuki, and if you look at the time where Yuki is being shown glimpses of what happened in the st universe, it looked more like Yuki protected Yuno. Yuno wasn't originally crazy and they feel in love more naturally in the first universe, it seems.
She went insane after realizing she couldn't just revive Yuki after becoming God. Then came over to the other universe to make sure he lived.

You know, I think I just talked myself into them being a good couple (in the first or third universe).

Yeah, but wasn't Yuki just joking when he said he would marry her? I thought Yuno took that the wrong way since she's so mentally unstable. Also, as a part of her love for Yuki, I forgot to mention that another big reason why I dislike Yuno is because of her jealous personality.

Haha, yeah, I think you did just talk yourself into saying they're a good couple.

Again, you're not thinking of the first universe. I wouldn't say Yuki was joking (that implies it was sort of mean), but he may not have been completely serious at the time. But during the game in the first universe Yuki and Yuno may have come to love each other naturally which is way Yuno went insane when Yuki died in the first universe and she wasn't able to revive him.

No, I'm pretty sure I'm thinking of the first universe. It's chapter 53, page 11. Yuki is seeing a vision of the first universe. Yuki's parents just divorced, and Yuno had just killed her parents. They are the only two left in the classroom, trying to finish their paper on what they want to do in the future. Yuno asks if she can become Yuki's wife, and Yuki says maybe when they are adults. Yuki is a high-schooler; he's not being serious; he's just putting Yuno's mind at ease.

Yuno was already mentally ill in the first universe: she killed her parents, it looks like she still murders people during the game (Chapter 53, page 19), and she fakes her death in a lover's suicide, thinking she could bring Yuki back to life (Chapter 53, page 22). Just look at that face! Once she figures out that she can't, she loses her mind even more.

I'm not actually going to go back and look.

The whole future dream thing happened in all 3 universes.
Also, I thought I remember those brief pictures of the first universe showed Yuki having more of a backbone and protecting Yuno more.

Give them time, they'll more than likely get to it eventually. The first season just got an anime legends release this year. So it might be a year or two before they decide to release R2 in an anime legends release.

Bandai's been kinda backlogged this year. As they had stuff like Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya that was supposed to get a spring release, only to get delayed 6 months. Plus they're working on getting out Tales of the Abyss, K-On! & the rest of the dual-audio original Gundam show. Not to mention they still have Turn A Gundam to get released.

So they're got more stuff that they need to focus on at the moment.

I bought Lupin the 3rd Movie Pack: First Haul last night for $18. Apparently that is a hell of a deal. Everything I have seen on ebay has been $50 or higher.

Although its not really new news , since I don't remember seeing it mentioned here I wondered what everyone thought about Vizs anouncement of US Monthly Shonen Jump becoming Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha? I think its a good idea thats been long overdue over here.

I hadn't been watching much, since I had been playing through Fate/stay night in preparation for Fate/Zero (Yeah, I'm only like seven weeks late, not to mention I've owned the damn game for over two years now), but I finally beat it this week after 80 hours, haha. It doesn't count as anime or manga, but I guess it's related enough to say a couple things about it.

After beating it, I'd rate the routes as Fate > Unlimited Blade Works > Heaven's Feel. I think I might be the only person that rates them in that order. I liked Fate the best, since it doesn't have any low points, the fights are all interesting, and the ending is amazing.

I already knew the big spoiler in Unlimited Blade Works from a darned Right Stuf podcast that had an interview with some of the voice actors from the English dub of the Fate/stay night anime, so that played a part in it not wowing me. Some of the other reasons include some of the huge fights being anti-climatic and I was misled into believing a Shirou was a bad ass in Unlimited Blade Works — he's really only a bad ass in the end. The best part about Unlimited Blade Works, I think, is Lancer; he's just really damn awesome in it — he's one of my favorite Servants now.

I really didn't like Heaven's Feel until the end because the main character of Heaven's Feel is Sakura, and I absolutely loathe her. I hate her clingy, whiny, jealous, submissive personality. There are some events near the end that make up for it — though not completely since it's my least favorite route — one of which is the best fight in the whole game, Nine Bullet Revolver.

After beating the game, I watched the Unlimited Blade Works movie, since I bought it when it was 50% off on Amazon JP a while ago and I've been waiting to beat the game to watch it. As a movie, it's awful, since it moves at a million miles per hour and cuts a lot of stuff (such as the exposition) out of the story. However, as fan service, it's pretty great. It doesn't have everything, since it's only just under two hours long (compared to like 20+ hours in the game), but the movie fits in most of the parts someone would want to see. It has recognizable quotes and some scenes are taken straight from the CGs out of the game. Also, it has all of Lancer's parts, which were just fantastic to watch.

Now, about Fate/Zero: it's fantastic so far. I think this Holy Grail War is much more interesting than the Holy Grail War in Fate/stay night; it's mostly because the Servants and Masters in Fate/Zero are so much better than the ones in Fate/stay night. I want to root for Kariya, since his wish is the most just and worth granting (and he just looks like a bad ass in the opening, surrounded by those worms)
, but as anyone who's played or watched Fate/stay night knows, only Saber and Gilgamesh are left at the end of the war, so he's going to unfortunately lose at some point
.

I have more to say about the other things I've been watching, but I'll wait until I'm caught up with everything. I'm pretty close now.

I've been watching Durarara on adult swim and it seems like it's finally going in a clear direction instead of wandering around like a drunk donkey. Hopefully the last 5 episodes make it worth sticking around.

Don't count on it! If anything, it was the first half that had the more coherent direction.

I've gone crazy with the animu lately;
Black Lagoon
Ika Masume
Mirai Nikki
Guilty Crown
Persona 4: The Animation
Spice and Wolf
and Ore no Imouto
all these past two weeks alone.

Currently on episode 4 of Durarara!!, probably gonna watch more later tonight.

I'm also thinking about reading Berserk since I loved the anime so much, but manga really puts a strain on my already troubled eyesight...

Gundam Unicorn episode 4 landed this weekend, what are people's thoughts?

It's amazing how the production values only seem to get better with each episode, and the latest one looks unbelievable. There's so much homage payed to the franchise in ep 4, I'm sure a lot of older fans will appreciate it. Banagher is suuuuuper melodramatic though. The message of the show is great, almost poetic at times, but when he goes on his rants about the human heart, I feel it's a bit too much.

Yay! That is all.

I saw a few episodes of Durarara and I'm finding it strange. So, if it becomes even less coherent, I might as well stop. On the flip side, I just started watching Arakawa and am enjoying it lots.
