Ok, I'm a noob when it comes to modding. I have a SF Anniversary stick that I want to mod the stick and buttons. I have a TE stick that I love and would like to use a stick and buttons similar to that on the Anniversary stick.

Would I be able to use these?

Sanwa JLF Joystick
Sanwa OBSF-30 Pushbuttons
Sanwa OBSF-24 Pushbuttons

And if so, do I need the OBSF-30 buttons?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The buttons holes on the box have to be widen a bit. For the stick you have to route it to a certain thickness for the JLF mounting plate. You can use a JLW instead with no wood work involved for the stick and just have to widen the button holes.

Can you explain why they would need to be widened? The sizes appear to be the same width, at least from eyeballing it.

I'll look into the JLW stick. Thanks for the info.

Any other suggestions anyone? The buttons I could probably live with, but I love the feel of the TE buttons (those are Sanwa right?)

Its the stick that is just too stiff for me.

[/QUOTE]Sanwa buttons are 30mm and a typical button hole for American parts is 28mm.

I need the cable that connects the 360 headset to the joystick that came with the TE sticks. I don't see any on the Mad Catz or Game Shark site and I need it for my Turtle Beach headset. Anyone know of something comparable I can use?

Edit - I just saw this, anyone have a cable like this? I assume this would work ok?

Would this be the thread to discuss custom arcade sticks? Because as an ultra-noob, I need ultra help. For the record this is my first post. I've never made or even used a stick before, so I'm lost. Though, I did read the links in yhe first post and I have a small understanding of arcade sticks now. Would any veterans be willing to answer some questions of lil'ol'mine?

I don't need to prove anything. And that isn't the type of questions I can answer here. However if there are specific questions regarding arcade sticks, I can answer those.

ok real question, I have madcatz fightstick pcbs. one for 360, one for ps3. I'm fine with two usb cables coming out. need a toggle switch obviously. what's the easiest way to connect one joystick to these two pcbs? no soldering. what kind of toggle switch board and wire harnesses am I looking at and where can I buy?

im going to try and mod the buttons and joystick even though listening to the horror stories of anathema728 experiences with modding an SE stick. I have to try at one point right?

Lizardlick is completely sold out of the parts i want. How reputable are Gremilinsolutions? i searched google and some people were not happy with them. I dont want to search ebay due to thinking there would be a huge case of the knock off looming. Anyway if LL is sold out, what alternative shops do you guys use?
 
Well, all I mention are things to look out for. They shouldn't be things that deter you away from swapping out parts.

As for the sanding/chipping of the sanwa button grooves, it all depends on how big the socket is cut. You could just not sand/chip it and just power it into the socket. And I can't say that you have to do this for ALL se sticks, but I definitely had to for the two that I own.

So, MarkMan, any ideas on how to wire two madcatz se pcbs (ps3 and 360), no soldering? A response of whether you have an idea or not would be great, so I can move on and ask SRK

you should look at the ps-14-KN, they are screw-ins but it shouldn't be much of a problem, some people (custom arcade stick builders) actually prefer screw-ins because you can have the button mounted on different mounting plates with different widths

I just realized that I have an old Blaze Twin Shock for PS1. I know next to nothing about modding though. I wonder if it'd be possible to mod it to work with my Xbox 360... If I could do that then I'd definitely mod that sucker with new sticks and buttons.

thanks for letting me know. Will clear it out...and thanks for the help. Ill copy and paste this in to notepad. ill hold off on the buttons since i have no idea what color background my artist will do. It will also give me sometime to choose snap ons or screw ins. Thanks for the link for focus attack. I may give them a shot especially if the SRK forums are giving them a good review.

But again I really do appreciate the help on this.
 
I have a question. I need either a stick or pad to play fighting games on the PS3 (the dual shock is terrible). There is a $60 Tekken 6 stick + game bundle on Amazon. Is this a good deal and is the stick of good quality?

I just purchased a MadCatz SE fightstick from the Walmart deal. I can see myself using this for arcade games as much or more than I would for fighting games. My question for the group is, what can you tell me about restrictor plates and are they hot swappable?

Here is a great video about choosing the right gates.

Yes they are swappable. The gate is plastic so you just take off the one you dont like and just snap in to place the one you like.

i just got the stick by the way and opened it up to see what im really dealing with. I took out the joystick and even went as far to try and take out buttons. Its very easy if you follow the instructions.

Interesting video, but I'm still not sure if I understand which restrictor plate is more like an "arcade" for games like PacMan. Also, you say they are swappable, exactly how do I do that?

None of those restrictor plates in the video are good for Pac-Man.
I'm only interested in making my stick good for Pac-Man CE DX.
You need a 4-way restrictor plate, usually in the shape of a diamond.
You can get this $5 4/8-way restrictor plate to put on your Mad Catz SFIV Fightstick SE from Walmart.
You can change it from 8-way square to 4-way diamond with a twist.
You can buy this $23 Seimitsu arcade joystick that comes with a 4/8-way restrictor plate, which is what I'm doing.

I made a temporary 4-way restrictor plate out the bottom of a plastic cup and some scotch tape. It works great.

for anyone wanting to get Seimitsu 32-01, Chad(who i think runs sales for Lizard Lick..only assuming) says he is getting new sticks in next week...so if your looking for one..like many others.....put your name on the wait list.

Thank you for that information, I too plan to make my stick more of a PacMan/Puzzle Fighter type of stick. It is surprising how poor the xbox controller can be for something as simple as a straight down motion in Puzzle Fighter.

I was able to find a $42 bundle at my Sam's Club so I'm going to take that one and keep it in a fighting game condition and then try to mod the other to be a 4 way arcade stick.

When you say a "twist" to turn the 8 way to a 4 way is that something that you think they'll have instructions for if I order the plate and/or the joystick?

It looks like replacing the artwork is not for the faint hearted though.

Does anyone ever replace the start/select buttons on their sticks?

The artwork is pretty easy to replace. Just get a spudger to remove the current artwork. Than if you are using clear buttons just mount the current artwork on to the plate and use the plate as a template to cut out the holes. I'm thinking going one by one. cut a hole,open the plunger,put circle artwork in plunger, mount button and then do that for another 7x.

i dont think you can. The membranes are too small so actual 1p 2p plungers will not fit. TE sticks i think you can do it..but SEs i think thats a negative.

What kind of paper is used for this? I imagine that I'd be sending this art to a place link Kinko's to print on a high quality machine. I suppose if I were going to design artwork I'd just let the art bleed over the buttons so I'd have the option to buy clear buttons and put it in there.
