So I'm going to edit the art on my HRAP3... what do you guys think? I probably worked on it for about and hour and a half total after making a template for it (don't use mines, it may not be 100% exact).

I tried various designs and that one turned out the best.

Honestly, as a graphic designer, I think having the characters in the back is distracting. Plus, I'd probably go with a couple different characters on one side.

I agree that the characters in the back shouldn't be there. It just gives it a busy look. Though, Rolento, perhaps I could run my pic I'm planning to use by you before I go ahead with it?

sure, though I highly favor tits. just so you know.

Okay so I've installed the buttons (OBSF-30s) and it feels ultra sensitive. With the Hori buttons, I had to press a good amount down before the buttons registered. With these Sanwa, a slight touch makes the buttons register. Is this normal or did I hook them up wrong?

Good. I trust no one who is opposed to tits.

Seriously, because then it'd be a girl, or a gay. And neither is important.

I thought my HRAP2:SA was defective, it kept punching in street fighter outta nowhere! I then realized it was because i rest my fingers on the buttons

got a few questions for you guys...

1) Do wireless controllers for PS3 or 360 have lag? If so, how many frames?

2) Anyone test dual-mod sticks (PS3 + 360) for lag?

3) Is there a Lag-Free PS2 to Gamecube adapter out there? (may be popular since we have Guilty Gear:AC, a few SNK compilations, and the upcoming Tatsunoko VS Capcom).

Has anyone here modded the Hori EX2 stick yet? I modded a SFAC stick a few years ago and it was pretty easy. I just got VF5 a couple days ago and I'd like a better stick and push buttons in my 360 stick.

[quote name='MarkMan']If you want something closer to the original Hori buttons, I suggest Seimitsu. Or get used to the Sanwas. X_X[/QUOTE]

Thanks, trust me, I'll get used to it. I've already spent more then I wanted to. Anyways, the rest of my parts came today (OBSF-24's & Bubble Top). I just installed it and here's what it looks like now. My plans were to update the artwork for it, but I'll do that sometime in the future. Thanks to those who answered my questions in a quick manner.

I wanted the four buttons on the right hand side to be white but LizardLick was sold out so I told him I'd just take four more blues. I think it looks good but let me know what all of you think.

If you don't mind seimitsu, then I would go with the Clear Blues. Should match your bubble top better. You may also want to think about matching the Select+Start to your other buttons by going with Black.

Another thing to try is to mix up the Plunger with the Bezel for your buttons. Like a blue for Bezel and black for Plunger or vice versa. White with Blue could work as well

I wish i had photoshop skills...i would chop in different colors to see how it looks :)

Which type of Seimitsu button would fit in this stick? Would the clear color [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]PS-14-KN 30mm[/FONT] fit?

Thanks

those should work, they should be the same size diameter as the ones u got in rite now.

theyre threaded style as opposed to snap in so make sure u got enough space inside the stick to accommodate them

For personal randomness sake... what do people prefer for smaller arcade sticks (the size of a Namco or Green Goblin), 6 or 8 buttons? Also for bigger arcade sticks (VSHG, HRAP series), 6 or 8 buttons?

Just wondering, thats all.

Either that, or market research  I'm on to you, MM...

But for small sticks, 6 buttons, because 8 would feel cluttered, and for large sticks, 8 buttons... coz with all that space, why not? Lets people play Neo Geo style if they choose.

Same, w/ the same logic

As someone who plays lots of SNK fighters, I cannot agree more.

People can still play Neo Geo style on 6 button sticks.

Code:
 B C D
A X X

Which would be the arcade perfect way for Neo Geo style buttons (Japanese).

When using 8 buttons do people use the top row or the way I put it in for 4 button style?

I don't think 8 is essential. It's something I've become accustomed to on larger joysticks, but to be honest, I play my average SNK fighter like this anyway on an 8 button joystick

x x A C
x x B D

or

x A C x
x B D x

Ditto. I'm just sayin' - if you're a top-row user, it'd be nice to have the option, especially when there's ample space.

Same again. With my HRAP2 and the PS2 SNK comps I play them...

XXXX
ABCD

No real issues for me with spacing and whatnot.

I usually play:

ABCD
XXXX

I like using the 4 buttons on the top row, probably because I am usually using a low end Hori, such as the FS3 or Wii FS. Using the top row gives me a bit more space to rest my palm. Placement may change when my HRAP3 comes in (hopefully today.)

MarkMan: Looking at your diagram, I wouldn't be opposed to a 6 button layout. I think most of the 6 button layouts I've played on have been American-style, straight line 3 over 3.

Just got back from The Source (Canadian Circuit City) with everything else I need to mod my FS3. Buttons/joy stick shipped from Japan on Friday. I won't have time to take everything apart and start painting until Sunday though :(. Its a FS3 and this will be the layout:
a B c x
d E f x
I'm plugging the x holes.

Before anyone jumps the gun, I was only asking about 6 button vs 8 button out of curiosity.. Nice to know that I'm not the only one that feels 6 on small...

Mmm..

I don't really mind it either way, as long as they don't fuck up the button configuration (I'm looking at you fs3!).

too weird!! ( ゚Д゚)''~

what motivates you guys to play that way?? I play the markman way, the way it should be...

also 6 buttons for life. I had an 8 button stick... 2 of those buttons never got touched, and I used that thing for like 4 years

I would guess that they are trying to play Street Fighter-style, with 2 punches on top and 2 kicks on bottom.

With that 8-button stick you didn't feel like having the x 3 Punches and x 3 Kick buttons? That stuff is useful, man. Sounds like you didn't want to learn a new way to play to me...

u mean a 3xP or 3xK button on a joystick?!?!?!?!

that jus sounds dumb... like it defeats the whole purpose of using a joystick imo...

but I mean if thats how ppl play then that's cool I guess... I'm orthodox style, all SKILLZ.

for the ppl who put their SNK buttons 2x2, do u play guilty gear that way too? with the non-dust buttons like that??

Ive seen ppl at anime conventions do that

Making things easier to do is not dumb. You can be skillful and still enjoy extra features. Not that pressing all 3 buttons is too hard to do, but a button that does all 3 at once makes it faster and easier to do.

since it's banned at tournaments, i've never bothered to learn it.

My bad... Okay, if you attend tournaments it's not a good idea. Otherwise, it could potentially improve anyone's game.

I play guilty gear on a stick the way most (all?) of the GG cabinets are set up. Basically a 6 button setup, but no button where the medium kick would go if it were streetfighter.

but understand that adding an extra button to facilitate a new function changes the way you play the game.

think 5 key beatmania, u can get hella good at the game but then you're introduced to IIDX, all they did was add 2 more keys and yet u gotta completely change the way you play the game.

you may think adding an extra button may make things easier but it actually does not. As a joystick player I am conditioned to use arcade standards, I dont think about what buttons I press when I play, everything comes natural.

If I were to add an extra button to perform a function that serves to be a shortcut to something I already know how to do on reaction and impulse, it causes you to think and thus screws up your gaming thought process and execution completely. It would take lots of practice to get accustomed to this new button as you would be learning how to do something you already do easily, but do it in a completely different way now.

macro buttons for using game controllers is a must. My friend learned to play MvC2 at a tournament level with a PS2 pad, but he uses a single button to dash. Without that, you could NOT play high level MvC with a gamepad. The whole point of transitioning from a pad to a stick is to remove the necessity to map multiple buttons to a single one, of course in addition to taking advantage of a different directional input.

You make some really good points there. I realize that learning to use the 7th and 8th buttons on a stick would require extra time, but it would still be beneficial in the long run - except that apparently you can't use them at tourneys, so tourney players would just be hurting themselves by taking advantage of those buttons.

Yeah I played mvc2 on a pad for a while, with a button mapped for dashing the timing is really easy to get for all those magneto like infinites.

Then I switched to stick because of the mvc2 cabs at my school and bam! It was like a ray of sunshine hitting me in the face.

Bingo for me. That's why I play Neo games like that.

I just use the default settings for Guilty Gear also. I've never played it in the arcades, and I'm used to the default layout. I do play Soul Calibur arcade style.

A B K
G x x

Personally after having used my HRAP3 for the past week I must say that with the games that I play (T5:DR, MvC2, SF III:3S, and SC IV), I have only used 6 buttons at the most.

The default setting for GG is this, assuming that the stick has R1 and R2 on the right side, top to bottom.

P S D
K HS x

I think I'm going to try your layout.

the standard GG layout is

K S H
P x D

u guys are all wrong!! hahahahahaha~!!!

edit: Ahhh! I got beat!!

Ahhh! real monsters!!
