I still ordered one of each SFIV Hori stick...

But yea, I'm tired of the same rehash crap...

BTW, anyone see the new issue of EDGE?
 
My GameStop.com TE Stick order from 11/26/08 says 'verifying'. I understand some people from GAF have their status as back ordered. I wish I had pre-ordered one in store as well as online.
 
I want to make a joystick for Mortal Kombat vs DC...What would be the best layout to do? I haven't played the game but isn't it pretty much the same as the old MK games? I already own a 6-button / 8-button arcade sticks, will this be good enough already & not bother with a custom stick?

dunno if i didn't notice this in the ps3 te stick pics but this 360 te seems to have an extra pcb and the cable management seems to be placed differently. i'm guessing it has something to do with the headset but that pcb looks pretty big.

haha if i was there i'd be asking random questions like

1. why have an ergonomic slant to the regular fight stick and not for the te? (is that an ergonomic slant? :p)
2. are there breakaway cables like found on 360 peripherals for the ps3 sticks?
3. will madcatz make a standard or te fight stick without the sf/capcom license?
4. how many regular edition fight sticks/pads are being made since we know the te has an initial release of 3000.
5. what brand microswitches are in the standard fight stick buttons/lever? (insides would've been nice)
6. do the pads have rumble?
7. is the metal baseplate grounded like the vshg and hori doa sticks? (helps against carpet static)
8. what are the bumper buttons designated as since basically r1 (which would typically be the right bumper) is already on the face? do they just say l1, l2?
9. is the ps3 fight pad pcb common ground? (easier to make wireless ps3 sticks)
10. does markman do better pr work than the people in madcatz's pr department?

YO homie, sorry for not answering your questions earlier, just saw it now....

1) There is a slant in the regular one. I chose to add that. It was my homage/mix of merging a Agetec Dreamcast stick and the Namco arcade stick for the casing.

2) No breakaway cables for PS3 sticks, that is a Microsoft spec and it wouldn't be allowed.

3) No plans as of yet ( :) :) :) )

4) I can't say any numbers. But that initial # is wrong (I didn't want to say that anywhere else cuz it might make my PR guy angry) lol.

5) I am not at liberty to say.

6) No rumble. SF4 doesn't support rumble.

7) Yes.

8) I don't get this question? Sorry X_X

9) It is, but... It's RF wireless.

10) No. I don't (just in case he reads this).

Surely, I don't think anyone was hyped about these products because of me.... Me? Nahhhhhhhhhh.

That's what my receipt reads too. You might get a confirmation email if you preordered in store.
 
I don't know if it was ever confirmed and I can't find the answer on the internet.

1) PS3 Fightpad PC compatible?
2) PS3 Stick/Fightpad compatible with PS2 games? 360 Stick/Fightpad compatible with XBox games?

Reason I ask the second is because someone on Neogaf said that the pad did not work with PS2 games.

Is that site even reputable? Never even heard it.

I went to go put a pre-order down as well, out of luck.
Markman, surely these things won't be super limited and Madcatz will make a ton of them riiiiight? Why would they invest so much into making a bomb ass stick and not try to sell as many of them as possible. I can wait if I'm unfortunate not to get it on day one.

What did you guys [read: MarkMan] think of controlcommerce's guide? http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=5037 I'm thinking of building my own stick rather than buy the SFIV TE stick (which isn't even available in Canada?). It looks ridiculously easy, which I love. Maybe even the stick from my failed FS3 mod would work. Just need new buttons I imagine. Thoughts? I'm going to go hit the tech section of shorykun to look for templates.

videogamecentral is pretty reliable... they cater towards the Street Fighter community.

furthermore, Madcatz ARE producing a ton of sticks... more than that to be exact.

a ton is about 2000, do the math.

From what I've read and heard from people I actually know, yes they are. For casual people who don't play a whole lot then they will probably last a bit longer but for people who play a lot, they tend to crap out pretty quickly.

Let me weight in with my 2 cents...

I've played with a ton of different sticks, and own like 5 or so currently with the TE stick on pre-order.

The EX2 is a solid stick for 50 dollars. I've had 3 now (sold the DOA one when it was going for a lot on eBay then rebought 2 EX2's) and I can't complain at all. Previously, there were not a lot of stick options on the 360. I've personally never run into them breaking or messing up.

With the upcoming stick options, you may want to reconsider, but honestly, for the price, it's hard to beat the EX2. Is it perfect? No. Does it work well? Absolutely.

That's good, I feel better now.:lol: I bought an EX2 at the end of June last year and I've hardly used it until lately so I'd hate for it to die out before SFIV comes out.
 
i own an EX2 and an HRAP1.

EX2 is fine. i used to not like it because the longer throw was messing me up but then i got used to it playing HDR. now i'm having a hard time going back to the HRAP1.

as a videogame enthusiast i bought a TE stick but i could probably play as well on the EX2. maybe even better.

it hasn't died out even though i've beaten it down for failing me at HD and SC4.
 
Ex2 is > FS3 at least, so you have that!

My Fs3 hasn't broken yet, and Ive been playng just about every day on it. It seems like its giving out though, but that may just be its general shittyness and my newfound ability to actually tell when my shit is messing up in Marvel because of the equipment instead of me.
 
Anyone know how Gamestop preorders work? I'm really worried that I won't get my TE stick at release.

I preordered the first couple of days they were available. I don't even remember when, maybe November.

Do they sell their allotment based on order date or do some stores just get lucky?

I really hate my EX2...I hope they don't screw me.
 
They should have enough stock to meet pre-orders coming, and if not they will eventually since some more are being manufactured.

You should be fine though since you ordered in Nov.
 
I've been thinking about building my own stick but after running a few numbers it seems like I'd be spending well over $100 just in parts.

Sanwa Stick + Buttons ~ $50
XBox Wireless controller ~ $45
Wood, Plexi, Screws, Wires ~ $20

Spending $110+ just on parts and crossing my fingers that turns out half decent doesnt seem to cut it when I can get the SF4 stick for $150.


How much do you guys actually spend on a standard build?

My big wooden Happ box was like $30 for the parts, old PS1 PCB was one I already had, and the materials cost like $35 bucks for poplar wood and dark cherry stain.

My modded Namco stick was just the cost of Sanwa parts, so like $50 shipped. Namco stick was $15 back in '96-'97, whenever I bought it.

You can cut costs in materials, but the parts are almost always going to cost about the same. If you want cheap, American style, go IL for the stick, Happ for the buttons. Sanwa and Seimitsu are nice, but they cost more. For the actual case, you can go pine to save some money. MDF can be a bitch to work with, but it's fairly cheap.

For PCBs, you can find old PS1 controllers for cheap at garage sales and etc. GS sells them for a buck usually, and I buy them up. For 360, you could use a black Mad Catz GS controller, which is $20 used at GS, if you don't need wireless. Or you can hunt down the Mad Catz arcade controller, the one with the big ass stick. It sucks ass, but the PCB is easy to work with, and GS should have it for $12 used. Fry's has them for like $9.

The SFIV TE stick is pricey, but it makes it easy to just buy the damn thing and go play and not have to worry about making a quality stick.
 
I was thinking of making/modifying an arcade type stick for my Wii. Has anyone tried it? I'd like to give it a go if possible, but I'm an absolute beginner at all this so it seems a bit daunting.

Well, your options are:

-modify an existing Hori Wii stick with Japanese parts
-use a GameCube controller PCB
-use a Wii classic controller PCB
-use a custom PCB from Toodles at http://forums.shoryuken.com 's Tech Talk board.

The Hori stick option gives you housing to work with, but doesn't it need a Wiimote to be attached? So would the Classic controller. So a GameCube controller might be the most convenient. Also note that the only way you could use an arcade stick with Smash Bros. would be to use a custom PCB from Toodles. His PCB is the only one that lets you emulate using the analog sticks (much like the new SF4 sticks do).
 
How to mod your Hori Fighting Stick Wii. From what I've read that seems to be the easiest way, aside from all the sanding and cutting away for the joy stick.


What are good dimensions for a stick guys? I think my FS3 is too small, but I don't want something huge because it would sit on my lap. I'll be going with this layout here:

I haven't been able to find a good template or whatever for building the actual box. I was just going to grab some designs and wood and give it to my grandfather whose worked with wood his entire life. To be honest I really want this
 
The Norris box is very nice but for the same price you could get an SF4 TE stick which looks just as nice IMO and includes an awesome PCB and Sanwa parts automatically.

Any talented graphic artists in here? I need help with cover art for my new stick. Something nice to follow up my past sticks. My newer one is an all white box with white buttons and ball top. The box is done and the parts are here. I just need to paint and print out the art. Not not a big fan of anime or fighter game characters on top. Just a simple, unique and matching design. Please PM me with ideas if your willing to help. Thanks a lot.

As great as it looks, the availability here is questionable. None of the EB Games I've checked have had it available for preorder. It isn't even on Amazon.ca. So I would be looking at Ebaying it for a fortune, or having goomba preorder then ship it here when it gets in. $150 USD is $190 CAD right now, plus about $40 shipping. Ouch. Plus I want to dual PCB mod it, so theres more. That got really expensive fast.

I can make my own for about $150. The Norris is exepensive, so I'll be making my own box, I just want it to look like that.
