CAG PS3 Unreal Tournament 3 Night [On Indefinite Hold]

Yeah I'm playing today. I'll host. Nobody showed up for VCTF the other day so I just played with other friends. Oh except for Matt.

Probably a good idea, unfortunately. I was going to be on, but an old friend who got married in August and moved to Boston called me up for dinner and drinks, and I couldn't say no.

But there will be plenty of UT3 in the new year!

Sounds good to me to, with the family in town, either we play rockband or i get to sneak away for a few to play some quick games like street fighter, but that is usually pretty late, like after midnight EST. I definitely will join you all once I'm free again.

Alright the day is tomorrow. Time to stop lollygagging you smoos and time to get right back into it! Monday HO!

Hey guys, I'm interested in joining up, but am somewhat overwhelmed with the amount of stuff I need to download. Is there no autodownloading on the PS3? Is there any priority order I should install this stuff, or is it everything in the OP?

The mods auto-DL but you've got to get the maps in advance.

What are we playing tonight, Paco? TDM? If Ma knows that he can just download what he'll need to play tonight.

I recommend at least just getting the CBP3 packs. Those include most of the maps we play on regularly. Not sure what we're playing tonight.
Those were some fun games tonight. Glad to have UT night back!
Yeah those were. Though I might have to upgrade the damn connection again as the turnout was bigger then I thought it'd be. I'm at 10mb down and 1.5 mb up. Maybe I should consider the 18mb down and 2mb up to handle this kind of strain.

Though it was kind of nice to see just familiar faces in the custom maps. Though a lot less populated.

Fun time guys, sorry I dropped out early, I didn't have the maps that were in play on the hour. Will definitely be back with all the maps next week.

Oh yeah, one of the new people was Pei-Yu who joined in from a gamefaqs post I did. He's new, but for someone new he has quite decent aim.

Ahhh feels good to be back in business.

I never know what I'm going to be doing on any given day and share a tv with my family, so I forget to check these threads. UTIII is by far the biggest disappointment in my big library of PS3 games. It's not that the game itself is not good, it's that nobody played it. I considered getting rid of it for anything I could get, but I'll try and get into these game nights to get some more play out of my copy.

Hopefully I'll see you guys on there next time you all play.:bouncy:

Took a little time to get back into the swing of things but I'm glad UTIII night is on again!

Good to see StrandedBrit hop on for a bit, as well.

Without anyone to play with and without organization I can see where your statement has merit, but when you get into it with friends and everything is organized, you can't be more wrong. This game is insane when you have a full game with friends and mics going wild and the action all in your face. I like this game almost as much as Team Fortress 2 on its online merits. And I wouldn't trade it in as the trade in value is crap nowadays.

Get in and see what you're missing.

Whopping 11 bucks on half.com... I think you can manage to get 11 dollars worth of entertainment...

Aww crap. I know what will fix it, but it's not cheap. Listen severs will always have a form of lag and they're mainly done for smaller hosting needs like 6-12 people. A dedicated server will fix this, though it'd be rather expensive. You could either get a PC capable of running Unreal Tournament 3 OR a PS3 with a copy of Unreal Tournament 3. You set the PS3 to dedicated server instead of listen server with a fast connection, or the same with a PC. I'd figure the cost for a true dedicated server would be around this.

PS3: 450 to cover tax and Unreal Tournament 3
PC: 600+ dollars if you want to do this instead of the PS3 version
Internet: At least 10 mbps down and 2 mbps up. At least 40-50 bucks a month.

It wouldnt' be cheap to get a pure dedicated server. But if you go the PS3 route, one can set up all the mods and maps on it easily and keep it there while playing the game.
I'll just pull a spare PS3 out of the closet then...

Do you think port-forwarding or any router settings could reduce lag?
As long as your PS3 is reporting NAT Type 2, there isn't anything more you can do on that front.

the pc version of the dedicated server wouldn't work too well because you can only run stock stuff. I mean I have spare computers that could run it if I had decent connection.

A fast connection to is the most essential bit. Not just a fast connection but one with as little ping as possible too. Someone of course has to man the Playstation to get all the settings done though.
hmm...wonder how much sb is selling his 60 gb, it'd be more worth while if we played more than once a week.
which is unlikely due to everything else going on. or the fact that we usually cant get a full game unless we go public :\

He's right. For the usual 5-7 players that show up it's not worth it. BUT if we kept it public and had a constant stream of people, then it would be worth it. Listen severs at 5-10 people don't really lag. But a dedicated server is only if we could have a constant 16 people weekly and we would have to play it more often then that to justify the cost.

Alright, finally got all the maps on my ps3, so I should be good to go for Monday. hone, thanks for the nice OP, and hosting all the content. I'm excited to all these new maps!

BTW, forgive me in advance for being noobsauce. I should figure it out pretty quickly though.

cool. glad it helps. I'm always worried about attracting new people since we have so much custom content :/ On the other hand, it makes the game more fun / longer life cycle.

we're all noobs here or mostly. :D

OK, I just sent friend requests to a bunch of you guys.

brahyt-- are you wildcard-dlb or wildcard_dlb ? PSN claims not to recognize the former, but accepts the latter. Thought maybe there was a typo in your CAG profile.
No Unreal for me tonight, unfortunately...one of my stores has their first inventory tonight and I've got to be there.
that sucks :(

Thomas96, depends what Paco is hosting until either randy hosts next Warfare night or my internet gets upgraded so I can host. Since we did CTF last time I'm assuming he's going to wnat to do some VCTF. Which means just the 2 CBP packs. Ideally just grab all the stuff that's dated before "not required" in the OP :D I don't remember what you've gotten so far.
