When we have 8 on like last night, this game can be a blast.
+100
im ready for more.

the camera was killing me last night, it is unbelievably obnoxious, zooming in, changing the plain of focus. I know its been said numerous times but I just cant believe they went with it after playing it themselves, let alone the beta.
Things are falling apart at Zipper. Here is the latest post from Roper in response to the Double XP weekend they had planned for us. It was live for a couple hours:

So the update is that they're disabling it for the moment as it's not working with 1.02 correctly. 1.03 will allow us to run these events, and the networking guys figured it would work with 1.02, but that wasn't the case.

I need a drink. --------------------

That doesn't sound good -- especially the part about needing a drink. A friend tried to talk me into keeping it saying, "You know you'll want to play it sometime.", to which I replied "I'll get it in 3+ months when they patch everything up and I can find it for $30-$40." Plus, I already have the pro dlc .
Got a new offical mic, had to get stupid camo one since its all my gamestop had. Only had to pay 25 for it once I dumped KZ3, so I'm not complaining
I would have given you +1$ for KZ3... :D

The one thing that was fun was the clan matches, but that is only because that is the closest thing to a party system. I don't see why they can't just take the same thing, rename it the party lobby and make it so that it automatically matches you up with groups equaling 8v8 or 16v16, but I guess that would be too simple.

Just as a note, I'm not trying to troll up this topic, I'm just frustrated with how it turned out.

I'll be on but it won't be til like...midnight since vball goes down for me on fridays. If you guys are still on by then, I'll join u guys.

Got my copy today.

One thing I noticed, has there always been so much clutter on the screen in SOCOM? I didn't stick with Confrontation very long, but I don't remember this much. All the clutter plus the camera make it a very unpleasant experience.

Edit: Maybe it was just because I jumped into quick play and was in a respawn game. Classic mode much easier on the eyes.

So Collision, can someone explain to me how anyone at Zipper thought this was a good idea for a map? At least Outpost has some open areas despite its small size, there is literally shit everywhere! I think its even worse than the overpass map (also why is that always the first map whenever we do a clan challenge?)

It only took you to the end of the match to learn to kill people on that map, so it's not too terrible :p

I'm not a fan of that map, very cluttered and the Spec Ops side has a clear advantage over Insurgents, just like on Rush Hour. Those guys were very well versed with their opening movements on that map, once you took away their openers they didn't have much left other than multiples rushing. Way too much grenade spam though, they held us at the spawn section for at least a full minute with all the grenading at the beginning of each round.
I'm officialy over S4. I obviously haven't had a chance to play online much with PSN being down for 23 of the 30 days or so it has been out, but I'm just not into it. I played all the previous SOCOM's yet still came in knowing exactly what I was getting since I played the beta. It has a lot of potential but the lack of communication from Zipper is ridiculous and inexcusable, which was the tipping point for me. I had a guy on the socom forum tell me it was because "_____ is on vacation". If they only have one person capable of conveying information in a meaningful way, that says a lot about how the team is structured (not to mention, who takes a vacation after you release a game in which all of the customers criticize?). No party system for 2 months also kills it.
I agree 100%. After Confrontation, for Zipper to do nearly the exact same thing is bullshit. And the fact that Roper and Dunham wont tell us anything makes it worse.

Thats a good point. However its probably hard to do with 33 less workers! Haha lol

The drink part is what caught my eye too. Roper essentially admitted defeat with that sentence.

Please come in here and complain as often as you like. It makes me feel like someone else besides me cares that Zipper totally ruined Socom. :applause::applause:

Good playing with ya for a little while there. Classic still has too much going on the HUD. Between that and the camera this game gives me headaches. I got booted off PSN and I couldn't get back on last night.

Collision is a horrible horrible map again directly ripped from COD style. Its a joke.

Im gonna go through the last like 5 pages and look for who needs an invite that we didnt already get

Hit mod 5 with the ACR... Thank God because it's not a great gun, it's got roughly a 40% overall accuracy rating from me based on my bug out moments in close range. When going cyclic the ACR jumps wildly in the reticule, best results with burst shots rather than a spray and pray but you're more likely to get killed using burst shots because of the poor shot grouping of the ACR. The ACR is definitely a medium range weapon, the only real reason to use it is for the noob tube at Mod 5. Conversely, the AK is actually way more accurate down range and in close quarters. Go figure.

HS36 modded up to 5 is amazing. Insurgent side is my strong side with the udw as my sub and the hs36 as my main gun, both mod 5. I feel a bit embarrassed sayin' all that, but whatev. So now any chance, I'm hittin the other side to mod up my other two guns.

Would like a clan invite (Rezae). Was in the Confrontation clan for a little bit and was a blast but life was just too hectic to play consistently. In June my work schedule changes and will have me off on Sun/Mon, so Sat/Sun nights should be prime time for me, although I'll still probably be around other nights just not as late.

Having just bought the game yesterday I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. Definitely feels more commercialized to be in tune with other "popular" shooters. Seems to be the trend these days. :coughUbiSoftcough:

Doesn't seem like a BAD game, and maybe some patches and classic map DLC would help. Gotta wonder how much control Zipper had in all of this. I could imagine Sony saying "Move + COD plz, kthx".

Yeah, I absolutely love the HS36, that thing is a headshot machine and it's grouping is very nice even at full auto. The DK2 has been pretty reliable for me on the Spec Ops side except that it sounds terrible until you get the suppressor at mod 1.

I really want to get a suppressed Socom/M20 sniper but the damned things take so long on every map except Von Heine Express, Spec Ops has two phenomenal areas to snipe from in the top of their spawns and the Insurgents have just one but it doubles as a choke point by that river bed on the left.

Had a ton of fun working as a two man team with you last night d, we tore it up and easily were the difference in which way the matches swung. When we were on opposite sides the matches were pretty damned close.

I have only a little further for the DK2 to be fully modded and then I have the dk7 on the specops side left at mod 3. I modded one of the sniper rifles to level 1 but the ones that are less powerful and are faster reloading get the silencer and I didn't know that. So I stopped trying to mod those.

We def tore it up last night when we were on the same team. That's a good strategy when we play. The game kept switching me after I'd get MVP to the opposite team, which was fine but it'd suck cuz most of the time the teams were full and couldn't switch. Those times that team I was on without ya did no team work. They relied on the frontline spawn and kept complaining they were getting spawn killed...that annoys the crap out of me when they don't think smart and change their spawn.

Can't wait for CAG Socom night tonight. See you guys on for some matches.

Red diamonds on respawn is hilarious. Makes sniping pointless. The fact that modded guns have a serious advantage (much like the skill tree in MAG) makes it annoying that mod upgrades are done by exp.

Confrontation did it right in that sense. If you wanted a silencer and grip, you gave up your ability to zoom. I guess in a perfect game everyone would have modded guns. But as of right not being forced to play respawn to have the mods up in classic is on the annoying side.

These next two week will be packed for me, so hopefully the patches will be in when I'm ready to play.

It was good games yesterday d367ruc70.
Time for Sunday night Socom. We're starting a clan match now.
shoot, didnt realize the time. ill be on shortly.

Sorry most likely won't be on till late like 11pm PST.

Just something that was mentioned in the GGT that you guys will most likely not like. Below it is my response.
That's why I like single player, being more linear (that's how I prefer my games...I absolutely despise sandbox or open world games).

The main reason I like MP is for Supression and stuff. I don't want that old school stuff in it because that's the main reason I could never get into SOCOM. I mostly bought 4 because I liked the way the Move controls were being used and sort of enjoyed the beta. I could understand long time SOCOM fans not liking it much.

This comment, I hate everything about it. My favorite game is ruined because you were the targeted audience.

I'm not disliking you, I'm disliking the fact that everything you mentioned here is the EXACT reason why Socom 4 should not be allowed to be called Socom.
that dude is a fruit.

Great games everyone. Sorry I could only stay for one clan match. I'm still having trouble trying to find the "right" gun. It seems like my machine gun loses to everything, either to smgs at close range or rifles at medium to long. I tried snipers but couldn't hit squat with it. I need to play this game a little more and actually get accustomed to it.

Looking forward to a patch that hopefully improves the game by leaps and bounds.

Good job tonight, guys. Was thoroughly impressed with j-cart and Wotcher busting it out in the last few matches to get the two wins in a row against that FAM clan.

Option, if you get a chance, jump into a respawn game or two just to try out guns to see what you like. I know you got your marvel vs capcom 3 and mk and all that good stuff, but take a sec and see what ya like.

I can't remember what we started out with ranking wise tonight, but we're almost at 1400 again (I think we're 1397 when everybody got off).
btw ppowers, love that album that's ur avatar pic.

Good games. Despite being undermanned in the later games, we still killed it :)

Sure I did alright, but the problems in this game are problems. If it gets patched and receives updates (maps and game modes) free or paid dlc, then it would be worth playing in the long run. As of right now, this is just a poor excuse to be called Socom.

Zipper had their chance to try something new with MAG, but to try something new with Socom? Sad to say, but Zipper is now on the shit list of developers for me. Fix it and make me happy or just fold out and end the Socom franchise Zipper.

i still can't figure out how to kill people far away. my aim sucks. in those games, it was a good thing we were insurgents that i had the trusty pdw46. in the last classic suppression, that one was nail biter. we tied it up going into the last round with winner take all. we've been playing the entire match with one man donw. everyone is dead except dtruk and an enemy. jcart posthumously kills the last two guys in the match: our dtruk and the enemy with the proximity mine. everyone ends up in a tie.

Yeah JCart TMK is an idiot.

This game sucks and I had to force myself to stay on last night with everyone. It has no rhythym to it and the maps are just atrocious. Along with the crosshairs.

I'm a fan of most of the maps (the freeway pass one is too good), its just that shooting is so focused on OTS that you can pop headshots from across the map no problem or you miss with every shot when they are next to you. The hipfire is bad, turning speed is slow and the camera collision make some firefights a complete eye fuck on what is happening on screen. The grenade spam is also too much. Fine don't have a nade arc, but make it so that you have to pull out the nade like a weapon. Quick throw is just too imba, especially in a fire fight. But we all know that quick toss is here to stay.

It's Monday, so hopefully we get some news about Socom tomorrow or this week. Over a month after release and no updates or anything from Zipper. They haven't even had a Zipline podcast in almost 2 months. Something is going very wrong at Zipper and it has to with Socom 4.

There is way too much camera collision and random bullshit with sniping and being in cover as well. If I can look down the scope at an enemy and shoot at him, I should NOT be hitting the rock that I'm using as cover(not utilizing the cover system but behind simply behind/on the side) because I didn't move over the few inches into his direct line of sight to get popped. You can't shoot somebody through a car with a sniper rifle... You can shoot them through doors and windows with an assault rifle though. There are also bugged areas on the map that will not let you fire through them like in Cesspool there is a doorway you can be inside, shoot outside one way but it won't let any bullets in to strike you.

The grenade spam is also too much. Fine don't have a nade arc, but make it so that you have to pull out the nade like a weapon. Quick throw is just too imba, especially in a fire fight. But we all know that quick toss is here to stay.
The grenade spam really is bullshit. I finally figured out why people have arms like Tom Brady though, the frag grenade pops after 5 seconds, the concussion grenade pops a few seconds after landing regardless of air time and people are using that to launch those fuckers across the map. I wouldn't give up quick toss though, Black Ops and C4 make a clear case of making the swap cumbersome but there has to be a better overall solution than tapping R2, I also sometimes forget to release R2 and open the menu in the middle of bug out mode. They need to make use of the directional buttons since left, right and down aren't used for swapping equipment and opening up R2 to change from slot 1 & 2 is a lot of extra bulk and completely redundant.

I'm hoping for the best. I enjoy the game, just not the outstanding bugs that people are abusing.

Forgot to mention the lack of objects that you can shoot through. On Bale Out (the hut one) there is that chicken farm on the right from the Spec Ops side. I had someone in my sights last night and they hid behind the paper thin wood fence. Yup 100% protection. 2011 and more than 11 years ago Counter-Strike had the ability to shoot through certain objects.

This is purely a rant about being angry on not fragging that dude. I should have totally had him before he hid :D

If you can shoot them through the slats, you can actually get them. It's retarded but that's why I take cover behind the fences that are full fences and not slatted.

I *finally* played S4 for the first time last night. I stuck with respawning and Suppression to familiarize myself with the maps and style. Totally got my arse handed to me. Again, I'm new. I haven't played Socom since S3. This game was "ok" so far. But, I thought the same with Battlefield 2 when I first started, which became one of my all time favorite games. The fast-paced run around and gun-down is no where close to what the original Socom's were. (Although I do enjoy COD and BF2, but they're in different genre of shooters) I'm anticipating on practicing a bit more, then jumping into Classic. Socom is all tactical and although I played only an hour, I can tell Socom was meant to stick with it's roots. Classic needs to return and be the dominate mode. :) Looking forward to playing more though and giving this game a chance.

i level 5 modded the kurtis, pnw, and hs36. i dont know what to do next. it was very frustrtaing level up the kurtis to level 4 suppressor. as soon as i got it, i went 36-8 on sacrifice. lost the mvp to some guy with 26-x. i'll be the first to say that maybe i was extremely lucky with those kills. i find myself being too streaky. cold most of the time but occasionally heating up. i wonder how dtruk consistently kills people.

for future clan battles, watch out for pe4 charges
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzReONrrJzY&feature=feeduone can stick them on someone. hopefully, that someone will lead to more people. bam fish in a barrel. if you thought 4 nades was bad, now theres 2 nades + 3 charges. the pe charge has a larger blast radius than nades.

issue #2 double wins in classic bomb - kill the last guy and defuse last bomb to earn two wins that round.

Ya Im not playing this anymore until they do some serious patching and DLC. I cant quite put my finger on it but this game just cant hold my interest for longer than an hour. Might be the way they removed all skill from Socom, might be the maps, might be the generic game modes that encourages one side to camp. I cant support this trash any longer and like Eviltude said, the fact they say nothing is a joke. This is the latest post from Roper:

We don't have a timing update other than to say it should be soon. When we have a date we'll be letting you all know as soon as we can.

Im not a gamer, Im a Socomer. When most of you guys move on to BF3 or MW3 or any other shooter coming out, ill still be waiting for Zipper to fix this game. I bought two PS3s to play next gen Socom. This fucking blows.

Gonna try and jump on tonight as I just had to take a break for a few days since the game really got on my nerves last time. Guess I'll have to unlock and start using the PE4 to get kills :D
for future clan battles, watch out for pe4 charges...
Wow, that is absolute BS... Was the PE4 toss in the beta?

Edit: Never mind, found it on the SOCOM forums. Apparently, this was doable in the beta... (and I really have no idea what Zipper is thinking... or what Sony does these beta's for. Its not a real test as Uncharted 2 went unfixed for months from beta exploits too.)

http://forums.socom.com/t5/SOCOM-4-Issues-and-Exploits/The-TRUTH-about-PE4-Charges/m-p/1855248#M1468

Yeah, I know in one of the clan battles the other night I too was killed by one of the PE4 charges. I didn't realize until that video above that they could be thrown so far and I just figured there was some unseen guy right next to me who placed it at my feet.

the pe4 thing pisses me off. I felt sort of proud when I was able to win those two rounds while on the phone with the pe4 on one of the bomb sites, but now I feel retarded just because now people will be using the pe4's if they're this easy to use. People will always find a way to exploit these games to gain any little advantage or kills for themselves.

Been rocking the KP5 on the Spec Ops side, that gun is so awesome. I gotta give the PDW a try on Insurgents but the KP5 is orgasmic, don't need to aim and everything hits inside the reticule.

i read someone was complaining a full clip on kp5 can kill a bomb tech. the people that replied to this poster said that you need all 40 bullets to hit the head for a bt kill.

On right now as "Rezae" in classic. Enjoying Classic much more than shitty respawn games, even if my mods are terrible right now.

It's honestly not consistent, though. I have tested some guns against a bomb tech and I've managed to take down a bomb tech with about a full clip with the pdw without the bomb tech being hurt prior.

We got a few ppl on, hopefully we'll see some more on tonight.
does anyone know if we can set up two clan lobbies and play each other like the old confrontation days?
yeah, we did tonight.

If we're going to face each other, we're going to have to separate Mad and D-truk.
That made my night, I lol'd.

Trying to fall asleep as I have a semi-early start tomorrow. Enjoyed the games tonight, hope nobody takes me too seriously. Usually whenever I face off against d-truk I end up getting my ass handed to me at worst and him barely surviving one of my fire fights at best while I noob it up. Usually in respawn he kicks my ass, I have a tough time killing him.

Anyway, good games, good night.
