CAGbag: Get your questions answered on CAGcast

Great show, you guys are great. I was wondering if either one of you are interested in Afrika for the PS3. I'm thinking cheapy won't care for it, but maybe Wombat or Mrs Wombat may care for it. As it stands now, it seems to be a Endless Ocean like game. Thanks guys.

Story: I went in for an interview earlier this week and during some informal part of the interview, we discussed gaming. This woman who as interviewing me explained that her four-year-old son is playing WoW with his dad. He's four years old, he can't even read yet! He asks his mom how to spell "herbalism" and he'll put the right keys in order to form the word. I'm impressed that the mom is that open to gaming, but still....

Question: Cheapy, would you let Tai play a game like WoW at such a young age? Also, has parenthood changed your gaming habits or views yet? or better yet, will it?

Will we get a Wombat Office Tour? I think I remember Wombat mentioning doing one, and I liked Cheapy's Office Tour!

I remember Cheapy saying when he first announced Tai, "I'm one and out!"
After all this time spent with your son, do you still feel this way? If so, any plans on getting a vasectomy? Think of all the tissues you'd save. You could even save an entire forest.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat just as the format war seems dead and over I was wondering what you think could have happened if the 360 integrated HD-DVD at launch (for the 360) and how that would have effected the console and format wars?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

First off, I applaud you for your website and podcast....

But, I am kind of confused as to why you do it. You both seem to dislike games, let alone talking about them on a weekly basis. Some episodes back, Cheapy talked about how he had never played Mario 64, this week he's disinterested in Super Smash Bros Brawl. Wombat hates Patapon and dubs every game MOTS. Neither of you really seem to ever have time to actually play games, and are consistently mixing games up, confusing what you're talking about, etc.

On this last show, you guys bashed SSBB for being MOTS, as you bash some game each week for being MOTS....then you go onto to ask why Need For Speed "couldn't just refine instead of retool". Unfortunately guys, they are doing just what you ask for each week....giving you something new.

It just seems that you don't honestly LIKE game that much, and sort of have an undecided and complain-y type attitude to all games except the ONE that you each like: Wombat, Oblivion, and CheapyD, FPS's.

Also, on the game journalists just rehashing news, why don't you try reading any gaming magazine, like EGM or GameInformer. Most of their stories are of the investigative or feature type, with interviews, etc., etc., not just simple news rehashes. Of course ridiculous blogs are just going to go over recent news and overblown review scores, but I'm not sure those people should be considered game journalists, as they are just bloggers.

Thanks for hearing me out, and keep up the good work!

Hey Cheapy and Wombat!
Have you guys noticed how rhythm-based gameplay has become more and more commonplace lately? It has almost gotten to the point where every game has to have some rhythm-based minigame or something tied into it to help it sell. I'm not complaining 100%, because in all honesty I have fun with them, but I guess my question is, when Tai gets to be old enough to start playing games, and you tell him "you know, around the time you were born, we were all obsessed with playing games about MUSIC," do you think he will laugh in your face, or do you think rhythm games are more than just a trend.

Hey Cheapy, just wonderin, I've been a CAG member for well over a month (i think...), so how come im not a "CAG in Training" yet? I really want a Sig!!!

Hey Cheapy, a quick question. Since Japan has a "super-net" compared to most of the U.S, and you seem to use your "Free T.V downloading service" quite a bit. I was wondering, what the hell are your average speeds like? They have to be crazy compared to my measly 80-90 kb/s max.
Hey Cheapy,

This is more of a comment than a question. I was just listening to CAGcast # 107 and at one point Wombat points out that you sound like Howard Stern. This is something I noticed a while ago. Here are some Sternisms that you use a lot:
1) Asking "ReaAAllly?" a lot with that inflection of tone. Stern does that all the time
2) Talking about "doodie." Not only does Howard love to do this also, but he also likes to refer to it as "doodie."
3) Burping during the broadcast. That seems to have slipped out a bit more in recent CAGcasts.
4) Ending long conversations on a topic that you've lost interest in with "Who cares about _____?"
5) Insulting your co-workers. Basically, Wombat is your Bababooey.

-Yipwoop
While I get the references to Stern, I see the show more like Free Radio without the celeberity guests.

((This question goes to both but asked more directly to Cheapy.))

Hi Cheapy and Wombat. Cheapy you've mentioned that you took some Japanese lessons before moving and I assume more after? Have you tried 'Rosette Stone' it is supposed to be a very good language learning system used by the US Gov. and while its a little expensive you might be able to get it cheaper on eBay. Either of you used it? Any feedback? If not it might be worth a shot.

Always aiming to help, Avid.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

What do you think are the chances of an actual online MMORPG (besides Final Fantasy) coming to the 360? I know there are tons of RPGs out there such as Dark Messiah and Fable, however, they are only single player or maybe even co-op at best. If an online MMORPG came out for the 360 without a monthly fee, would it peak your interest? I myself am definitely wishing for an online MMORPG similar to WoW or Guild Wars to hit the 360. For so many people that have the 360, I'm surprised something like this hasn't been done yet.

Really? Sweet! I'm checking them out now as soon as I post this post.

Hello CheapyD & Wombat,

Im a new member on the Cheapassgamer site and I have a silly question:

CheapyD, why are you in Japan in the first place and what type of work do you do ?

I checked the CAGwiki and aside from your real name, there wasn't much meat to you "bio".

just curious, love the cagcast, keep 'em coming !

Hey Cheapy! Sadly, your xbox has gotten the RROD; at least the video of it was entertaining. I'm curious to know what kind of motherboard you had or if you know which one it was. Will you be using the towel trick to get the chipset to reset it and get some play out of it for bit longer. I don't know how well that actually works.

Since either way you might be xbox-less for a while you be using this time to catch up on PS3 and Wii games that have been devoid of attention.

Hey Cheapy, I have to say that I was happy to see that you made a new video on YouTube and I wasn't happy to see that another one of your 360s has bit the dust. I've noticed that you keep your 360 vertical so when you buy your next one, try putting it horizontal under your TV on top of the cabinet instead of in the cabinet to get more air to it. This might be enough to save your 360.

Also, is the Guinness Book Of Records: Gamer's Edition out in Japan and is it available in Engrish. Hopefully you can pick up a copy. I'll probably be getting one this week from my local games retailer.

Thanks man, can't wait for the next CAGcast :D

Yeah an MMORPG would be very cool on the 360, BUT as we all know 360s are prone to red ringing after many hours of play and we also all know that some people can get seriously addicted to MMORPG games to the point of losing their jobs or losing something else (this mainly applies to lonely people). If it was a seriously well known game like Final Fantasy then this would lead to alot of angry red eyes winking at gamers across the globe.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

I just wanna say that I've been experiencing some degrees of separation. I used to be a friend of DeceptiCreep on Xbox Live, we had some fun on Uno many moons ago but never got much action after that. But I've been throughly surprised how he's been a regular on your website and sending multiple CAG bag questions (3 so far as I've heard). It's a small world where I hear someone on my friends list getting mentioned in my favorite podcast - I even sent him a message in the middle of listening to a podcast, excitedly telling him that I'm also a fan of the CAG Cast.

Anyway, I just wanted to see what he thinks about this, and just wanted to say hey. So Cheapy and Wombat, have you ever experienced any sort of web community freakiness, where you thought "It's a small world"?

Hey cheapy and wombat,

I've just started listening to the show and i've started downloading past episodes. I think its great! Anyway I have a ps3 and im getting a 360 soon. Can you suggest any first purchases or must buys for my new 360.

P.S. I'm really hyped about fable 2. I heard about Peter Molyneux making promises he didnt keep for fable 1 but he says now he is only showing features that have been already put into the final game.

P.P.S. Wombat, dont be afraid to get hyped about fable 2.Hype is a good thing!

Hey Cheapy,
Now that the format war is over, I wanted to take a minute to take a look at BlueRay. In the last CAGcast, you said that the visual jump from DVD to BlueRay was not as big as it was going from VHS to DVD. I agree, however, you overlooked that DVD not only offered better quality picture, it also offered more features and usability. Can you remember when it took you 20 minutes to find the part of a movie you wanted to show your friend? Or how you had to turn the VCR off before you rewound, because you didn't want to damage the tape? When special features (rare as they were) either had to come on a separate cassette or after the credits?
But it got me thinking about when I was in middle school and my friend bought the Record of Lodoss War boxed set for $300. It was the size of a house. I think it had about 40 cassettes. Now, I believe the DVD boxed set is only 4 discs and goes for something like 60 or 70 bucks. I'm was a TV studies major in college, and that field really blew up because DVDs made it affordable to own and store. Now BlueRay has been waving this MASSIVE STORAGE in my face, yet I haven't seen them use it to offer TV series. Wouldn't it be great to get entire seasons or even series on one disc? That's a benefit of BlueRay that can be taken advantage of, even to those who have no HDTV sets. Shouldn't Sony or whomever get on someone's ass about this?

Hey Cheapy,

ESPN has reported in the last couple of days that Barry Bonds is saying he will play in Japan this year if a Major League Baseball team doesn't sign him. Right now the only team talking to Bonds even a little bit is the Tampa Bay "Rays", and even they don't seem to be interested. So what do you think of Bonds in Japan? Is the Japanese media on to this already? Do you think the Japanese people would hate him for being a steroid-using cheater? Or just for being a jerk?

Hey CheapyD

when i turn 18 im going to be taken to tokyo by my parents as a graduation gift from high school because going there has always been my dream. would it be smart if i took a small class for the japanese language before i go out there and if so, do i need to learn it fluently? or just a little bit to go around and do you have any suggestions on how i should prepare to go to japan. just wondering i wanna make sure that im fully geared for japan =)

Hey everybody, I have a quick and gross story to tell. I was having problems with my PSP, it wouldn't read my memory card. So while taking a piss I took my memory card out of my PSP and guess where it landed. I couldn't flush the toilet to get rid of the piss because that would be bye bye memory card so i had to put a plastic bag on my hand and go fishing. After running the card under the tap, washing my hands and drying it off I put the card back into my PSP and to my delight, IT WORKED! I don't recommend it but if you happen to have a problem with your memory card and a toilet full of piss, you can mix the two together. I know it's gross but I thought I should share my pain (and glory) with fellow CAGs. I also thought it would be something that Cheapy might be interested in as we know that he has done some pretty gross but funny things in his past times (sorry for mentioning that Cheapy).

Thanks guys, love the CAGcast.

This is a question for Wombat

Regarding last week's show featuring Mrs. Wombat...

Did both you and Mrs Wombat go scuba diving, or just her?
Where did you go to learn scuba diving and did you/do you enjoy it?

(I'm big into scuba diving, so I'm just curious)

PS Green Lantern Underoos? CLASSIC!

Hey guys, just wondering: where is the CAG wikipedia page? I think a lot of bored people at work browse through there, and i could be an asset. Keep up the great work!

well i saw that you finally made a new vid which was the shit!!! funny as hell...and i was thinkin why dotn u make liek 1 vid a week jus liek u make the cagcat once a week since u have so many fans on youtube?......shout out to wombat!!!!!!

Hey CheapyD and Wombat, since you've touched on "Dream Jobs", what did you guys wanna be when you were growing up, I know I wanted (and still do want) to be an architect.

Hey Cheapy,

My birthday is March 3rd (next monday), and was thinking about getting a psp. do you think I should? or should i get a ds? you can pitch in to Wombat :p
Hey Cheapy,

Hey CAGIronMan, I thought I would give an opinion with your gaming troubles. Getting a DS or PSP pretty much depends on what you really want out of a console. If you want a system with alot of other features as well as gaming then go for the PSP, but if you want a system with a more gaming based protocol then definately go for the DS. If you want more classic games that are alot of fun then go for the DS, or if you want more hardcore gamer type games with better graphics then the PSP is your best option.

I got my PSP about 6 months ago and I still use it alot, but I'll end up getting a DS soon. It just all comes down to what you want out of a system, and what genre of games you prefer. I like both consoles equally so people please don't start calling me biased or a fanboy.

Hope i've helped CAGIronMan.

Hey Cheapy, I have both the 360 and the PS3, and have been through no less than 7 360's in my lifetime due to them breaking. Right now I have an elite and boy is it loud! I used to be die hard xbox but now my ps3 is where I look for all my gaming needs. It is quiet and never had a hardware problem what so ever. My question to you does the noise (fans) of your xbox make you crazy like it does for me to the point of not wanting to play the 360 no matter the game?

Cheapy,

Thanks for the mental image of your hairy nakedness. Can you send me an offical CAG spoon so I can scoop my eyes out? I nearly fell over laughing at work this morning.

Seriously though, have you ever wondered why some of us go bald up top but are otherwise, how should i say, protected from the elements? I'm in the same boat as you and often wonder why science hasn't come up with a way to redirect some of that hair growing action to my scalp.

If there was a way to redirect to your scalp would you go for it or do you like the faux Mr Clean look too much? What are your thoughts?

Hey guys..

As you've discussed on the show before, DMC4's ridiculously long install is basically a result of the slowness of the PS3's Blu-ray drive as compared to a DVD.

Do you think Sony can/should/will eventually just upgrade the PS3's 2x Blu-ray drive to a 4x or 6x? It would certainly improve the load times for games and probably make some hard drive installs optional... at the expense of pissing off the early adopters.

Thoughts?

Here's a question for Wombat (that I think he'll love to answer):

I was a HUGE comic book kid back ten years or so ago until Onslaught came in and ruined comic books for me. I'm thinking of getting back into them but don't know where to start. Is there a series I could pick up to get back into the swing of things? No DC unless it's Batman please :p

how did You (CheapyD) and wanbat started this podcast. Can you be detailed about it. Like how did you meet, why video games, and how far do you want to continue doing this podcast? Thanks. Best show ever. Keep up the good work.:applause:

cheapy,

i think you're crazy to think that these walkouts won't effect gamespot at all. their reputation is shot. i wouldn't be surprised if this caused some big changes over at gamespot.

Hi Cheapy And Wombat
Have either of you ever tried looking up porn on your Wii?

My friend and i did once, the controller starting vibrating and and the wii started to make a really loud humming noise, and it froze. the only way to get it off was to unplug it.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat
Do you ever listen to your iPod on your 360? If so, does it bug you that you can't play any content that you have bought off of iTunes?

Hey CheapyD and Wombat, just wondering, have you seen the MySims commercial(s)? if you have, are you planning on playing it? IF I had a Wii, I probably would.

Cheapy....

You named my name in the CAGbag section this week, had me all excited....and then never answered the question :(

So....here it is again :)

Have you ever seen the show on G4 called Ninja Warrior? Besides being quite the crazy Japanese competition, G4 now seems to be more concerned with this type of import game show than actual video games.

On Ninja Warrior, old and young men alike attempt to "defeat" an extremely challenging obstacle course, and on some episodes, not a single person completes the course. A lot of the contestants build makeshift courses in their backyard or at their local park. What do you think about building a course and training Tai to be the next Ninja Warrior?

Hey Cheapy, don't know if you saw this question on my other post, but heres the question: Did you have any other ideas for prizes other than a $500 gift card to Amazon? If so, what were they?
