CAGLS: Madden 13 Gentlemen's League - We Finished! Thanks for Playing!

Don't attack me for this, but I think we should advance. There are still two more rounds of free agency left, and it's not like Revis will go in the first round. He should still have plenty of time to still make bids over the week.

last time I was reading scrub0bk's posts about his team I think he was -3 million in cap space. maybe someone can look into that to see if it still rings true? he was on last night, I just pm'ed him to have him check the thread.

I don't disagree. I'm just trying to avoid the "Oh, sure. We can wait for you. But we can't wait for anybody else. You're a monster!" comments. Not saying scrub0bk would make them...but you know what I mean. That's just for this round though. After this, we'll be back to a hard advance. I'll be home basically all day today as we're essentially "snowed in" here (fuck you, groundhog...seriously...fuck you). So, whenever we hear something, I should be able to advance us shortly afterward.

Ha. They were saying 3-5 inches here, but luckily it pretty much missed us. There's only a light dusting on the ground now, and supposedly less than an inch the rest of the day. I'm so fucking sick of snow. It was 60 degress on Saturday, and now this. Bring on Spring, damn it.

Well, yeah...we've hardly got anything here. It's just gross out. Freezing rain, sleet, ice...all that shit. And considering we just returned from western NY...that's the last thing we wanted to see, lol. It's more of a self-imposed "snowed in". Fortunately, my wife has this week off too, as Nashville public schools got 2 weeks for spring break this year. 2 fucking weeks! I don't even think my spring break was that long in college. That's crazy.

Depending on my cap situation after FA I will be looking for a good 3-4 MLB. Willing to give up my 2nd and/or 3rd round pick for one. I won't have enough space for a ridiculous salary though.

Knowing Nashville that city practically shuts down after a dusting. Even in Charlotte it isn't that bad, although we rarely get snow.

And JoeyPoley, I am on my phone so I cant double quote. Do you like Joe Mays? He's available for trade.

I looked at him but he is only an 80 in my scheme. with Perry Riley being a 79 already I just don't see it as a big enough upgrade. I will keep him in mind though after I see how FA shakes out.

Basically. My opinion has always been that the people are worse to deal with than the actual conditions (bad drivers, bread/milk hoarders, etc). And having just dealt with a crapton of snow this past week, I'm freaking ready for spring, man. And I love cold weather...but this winter has been a bitch, and I would like to kick it in the nutsack.

I really wish you could restructure contracts. DeAngelo Hall is a 13mil cap hit this year and its his last contract year which is beyond ridiculous. I should be able to restructure his contract early to avoid such a big hit.

You're telling me man, Suh, Stafford, and Calvin Johnson account for ~50 million in cap for me this year. The lions restructured most of their players, in real life they would account for around ~35. Such is life

Bucs are the same way. So much tied up in McCoy (who I finally was able to dump) and Eric Wright...ugh.

For anyone who tried to PM me earlier, I didn't realize my box was that close to being full. Trading season is always pure chaos. I cleared out some messages now though, so feel free to resend if your message didn't go through (though, it doesn't look like I got any "____ tried to PM you" emails, so hopefully I didn't miss anything).

First round pick 12th overall via the panthers trade

49ers reasoning: .i like to run a 4-3..so getting another defensive linemen would be key to my scheme...also i dont need 4 CBs and looking around the league alot of people dont have 1 CB over an 80 and i have 4 so again good trade bait....and picking up a high draft spot i will be able to either get a DT or RE/LE to fill my needs

Bengals reasoning: need to reboot at CB and by trading the pick to acquire culliver I will also open up more cap space for my team.
2014-3rd round Draft pick - #96 (last pick 3rd round)
2014-6th round Draft pick - #192 (last pick 6th round)

49er's reason- i do not need such a good third receiver so down grading to burleson and getting the two draft picks i am able to have a little more wiggle room in the draft. also the burleson's cap hit is very low and allows me flexibility.

Lions reason - Need an upgrade in my WR situation, looking to run a different offense next year. I also will likely miss the draft and want to make sure my picks get me an impact player rather than being wasted if the CPU picks. also with the small free agent pool i am not likely to pick up a good 3rd receiver.
Trade Rejected - Missing ages of players and OVR for Burleson. Even so, the committee wasn't sure about the balance here.

Free agency. In the interest of "paying it forward", I wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to take part in free agency this first week. If there's any players you want to bid on, please do it now so we can advance asap.

Sorry was able to hop on now, put the only bid i can put in as of now... anyone want asomugha? haha

Also, as I'm sure many have noticed, the new 49ers owner has been very active with trades (trying to give DVO a run for his money, perhaps?) I know there are going to be some strong feelings about this. I just want to let everyone know I am aware of it. I don't think it's a reflection on him, because he's free to run his team as he pleases. But there's always the apprehension of a new person coming in and totally changing the face of a team.

Some people have suggested a waiting period on trades for new owners. I'm not a fan of this because, for one, I feel like it will discourage people from wanting to join the league, as they would be a bit handicapped from the get go. And two, it's not always new members that are involved in what some might deem "excessive trading". At this point in the league, it's really of little consequence. We've dealt with it as good as we can, and really, there's no going back now. This is the final season...so lets just let it ride.

HOWEVER, I have decided that the trade cap will be coming back for next year's game (barring any monumental changes on EA's part...ha...ha...). In my opinion, it's the most reasonable middle ground for keeping trading realistic, but also (and maybe more importantly), serving as a means to prevent people from bankrupting teams like we saw with the Panthers (and are starting to see with some other teams). It's tough to force people to think about long term repercussions...and I think a trade cap is the best we can do. Just wanted to put that out there, so people know that I've been thinking about it.

Ok, good enough for me. Advancing now, folks!

Big News This Week

Phillip Rivers signs with the Bears
Tony Romo signs with the Panthers
Richard Seymour and Tony Gonzalez retire

I'm putting the deadline for tomorrow night (3/26) unless people indicate they're ready to advance sooner. We won't be waiting on anyone this time. Not sure of a specific time of advancement...but it'll probably be somewhere around 11 PM EST.

Tiger (49ers owner) also needs to remember to remove his offer from Jason Witten. Actually, last I looked, the Jags still had an offer on Claiborne. I hope that got removed.

It doesn't matter it appears the Claiborne signed with the Cowboys already.

Hey Troy, he's a 75 OVR and 33 yrs old. This was easier than PMing you back.

I can tell you who you signed, if you want.

Also, it looks like Tony Gonzalez and Richard Seymour retired.
It appears that Romo signed with the Panthers (Eww) and Rivers signed with the Bears. Osi also signed with the Panthers.

Also, Tony G retired.
Good news for me. I had some huge holes to fill. Romo might not be great but he has to be better than Alex Smith.

Does anyone know if Maclin signed? Steve Smith retiring really hurt me at the WR spot. Truth be told the whole team was decimated.

You got Umenyiora and Saffold. Maclin hasn't signed yet.

One other thing to add, the cut/resign thing definitely won't be allowed without going through a waiver wire anymore. It kind of just occurred to me that people could easily exploit this area in regards to acquiring free agents, by bidding huge amounts on star players to ensure that they win the bidding war, then cutting and resigning the player to a one year deal. This would be especially effective for players only asking for short contracts where the deals aren't so backloaded.

In the short-term, this may seem harmless. But what it allows people to do is scoop up star players without having the long-term cap effects on their teams. In my thinking about it, it doesn't seem like it would have a huge impact when doing it this late in the league, but it makes sense to just go ahead and disallow the practice now, since the intent behind it is clearly dubious. I'm really, really hoping EA institutes either legitimate contract restructuring or a waiver wire for next year's game. Otherwise, expect this to be a permanent policy.

was wondering if the broncos bears and chargers wanted to post what they were offering mcfadden...

it would only be fair seeing how it is public record right?
