CAGLS: Madden 25 Fan's League! Season 3 Complete! Jets Win! Thanks Everybody!

I've decided to stick around. I thought I was burnt out, but after the season finale with you and my playoff game against the Jets, I realize now I was just burnt out on CPU games. I know there'll still be a ton next season, but the user games make it worthwhile.

I suspect this will prove to be my issue as well, and I'd still like to come back, although I'm probably going to be very busy for the next month or so.

And since those games are done, we have now advanced to the Super Bowl. Titans vs Packers. Should be a good one. The deadline for this game is 3/28.

I'll get some offseason timeline figured out and we can vote on a draft time. At least there won't be as many of us to coordinate, haha.

Is anybody else not interested in playing a 3rd season? pitfallharry has already mentioned being done after this one. And I think Kaster is hoping to be rejuvenated. Is there anyone else I'm forgetting about?
Yeah hopefully it will be easy to find a draft date and time. I know now that baseball season is on it's way, my availability shrinks to basically two nights.

Nate, I'm available to play the Super Bowl at the usual time- at or after 6:30 P.M. Eastern. I have stuff going on Friday, but I can play tonight, tomorrow, or Thursday.

Titans - 31
Jets - 15

The Tennessee Titans will get to defend their crown. As per usual in these playoffs, the Titans found themselves on their heels on the opening drive. Geno Smith and Mike Goodson marched the Jets offense down the field for a quick 7-0 lead on the game's opening possession. Fortunately, for Tennessee, Jake Locker and Chris Johnson were ready for a game as well, and the 1st quarter ended in a 7-7 tie.

In the 2nd quarter, the Titans made their move, locking things down on defense, and scoring 17 offensive points, capped by a field goal as the clock ran out to take a 24-7 lead into the half. Getting the ball back to start the 2nd half, the Titans struck again, taking a commanding 31-7 lead.

At this point, the Tennessee defense settled into its "nothing big" mantra, and let the clock work for them. The Jets would not go quietly though, and a 10 yd TD pass and 2 point conversion with 2:26 remaining in the game pulled them to within two scores. Having all 3 timeouts, the Jets opted to kick the ball deep. They would not get it back, however, as the Titans offense converted some key 3rd downs and were able to run out the clock.

Good game, Hoo Rox. I think if Jake Locker had not been very on his game (that one throw after he shook off the sack at my own 5 yard line was bananas), this would have been a lot closer. It seemed like you were getting very close to sniffing out my run game, and I was fortunate to be able to keep you honest with the passing. I think I threw more in this game than I have against my last several human opponents.

Titans
Jake Locker - 11/11, 227 yds, 1 TD, 0 INTs
Chris Johnson - 16 att, 249 yds, 2 TDs
Kenny Britt - 5 rec, 103 yds, 1 TD
Kendall Wright - 2 rec, 57 yds
Justin Hunter - 2 rec, 48 yds
Delanie Walker - 2 rec, 19 yds
Colin McCarthy - 1 tackle, 1 INT

Jets
Geno Smith - 7/15, 120 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Mike Goodson - 8 att, 101 yds, 1 TD, 1 rec, -6 yds
Clyde Gates - 3 rec, 66 yds
Jeremy Kerley - 1 rec, 10 yds, 1 TD
Stephen Hill - 1 rec, 28 yds
Jeff Cumberland - 1 rec, 22 yds
Quinton Coples - 3 tackles, 1 sack
That play where Locker shed my LB like he was rag doll was a microcosm of the game. I had just pinned you at your own 3 yd line and stuffed your run on 1st down, then you should have been sacked. Not only were you not sacked, you completed a 45 yd bomb that was in the air forever. For some reason my Pro Bowl CB Cromartie, who was in man coverage, was nowhere close to the WR and my veteran S Landry decided not to play the ball and just tackle the guy after he made the catch. I knew it was going to be an uphill battle at that point. But I wasn't Maddened, I didn't play well and I couldn't stop you. Recipe for disaster. Well done. Good luck to you and the Packers in the Super Bowl.

As I said in the PM, I'm hoping for an epic game that lives up to the Super Bowl name. It will be nice to play another person again after way too many CPU games.

Good luck. We're all counting on you.
lol...wait what? Am I being rooted against? Am I evil now?

Titans - 21

Packers - 17

The Titans have achieved perfection. What a freaking game! This one was almost the opposite of a lot of my games vs human opponents. I forced a punt on the opening drive, and then marched down the field to take a 7-0 lead. But Green Bay roared back, and after a 106 yard TD return and a 29 yard lob jump ball TD in the final minute of the first half, the teams went into the locker room tied 14 a piece.

As the second half started, the Packer defense shut things down for Tennessee. This allowed Green Bay to take their first lead of the game at 17-14 with just under 5 minutes to play. Had it not been for a big tackle by Jurrell Casey, finally knocking big John Kuhn back a couple yards, the lead would have been 7 points instead of 3.

With the ball back and a championship on the line, Jake Locker and Chris Johnson started their march down the field, culminating in a 3rd and 6 play at the Green Bay 12 yard line, where Locker found Delanie Walker over the middle for a first down. Walker wanted more though, and rumbled across the goalline with 1:05 left to play. Part of me wondered if I would have been better off being tackled short of the goalline, but needing a TD to take the lead, I feel like you take the points when you can get them because who knows what happens on the next snap.

Aaron Rodgers tried to work some comeback magic of his own, but went to the well one too many times and Jason McCourty FINALLY intercepted a pass. He had 3 pass deflections before that point...a couple of them all by himself, and just couldn't hold on to anything. I really thought that was going to be my downfall. Michael Griffin also had a dropped INT for good measure. I really just thought it wasn't going to be my night...but fortunately for me, Rodgers' luck ran out.

Great game, Matt. Seriously pushed me to the brink. I feel fortunate to have made it through this season in tact. It felt like a lot of my games were one play away from falling to pieces.

Titans

Jake Locker - 7/10, 91 yds, 1 TD, 0 INTs

Chris Johnson - 15 att, 134 yds, 1 TD, 2 rec, 26 yds

Delanie Walker - 3 rec, 29 yds, 1 TD

Jason McCourty - 2 tackles, 1 INT, 3 pass deflections (nice job, stone hands)

Dujuan Harris - 3 kick returns, 160 yds, 1 TD (106 yds)

Packers

Aaron Rodgers - 10/20, 205 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT

Eddie Lacy - 11 att, 56 yds, 1 TD

Randall Cobb - 4 rec, 88 yds

Jordy Nelson - 3 rec, 76 yds, 1 TD

Jermichael Finley - 2 rec, 33 yds

Thanks, guys. I wanted an epic game worthy of determining a champion, and we certainly had that. While it hurt to lose the Super Bowl in the final minute or so, I'm motivated for the next season to try to get back.

Ok, guys. Sorry for the delay. Had some things going on the past few days that kept me from thinking about Madden at all, haha. Anyway, we have now advanced to the offseason. It looks like there were several retirements too. Just from the website news feed, it looks like Tom Brady, London Fletcher, Lance Briggs, Julius Peppers, and Troy Polamalu. And it seems like only Shane Lechler came out of retirement...that's all according to the news feed anyway.

As for our progression through the offseason, I'd like to do free agency with a one day pace like normal. So, that would look something like this:

Resign Players/Franchise - 3/31

Free Agency #1 - 4/1

Free Agency #2 - 4/2

Free Agency #3 - 4/3

Scouting - 4/4

Draft Possibilities

Corrected Dates/Times posted below

Since there's so few of us left, I'm not going to send a mass PM out unless absolutely necessary. Feel free to just quote the draft times and put an X next to the times you CAN make. Again, with so few human members left, the draft really shouldn't take much time at all. I'd be shocked If it took longer than an hour at this point.

All right, thanks guys. Here's hoping we can all get through this final season.

4/6 PM

4/7 1159 PM

4/5 9 PM

I can do the draft at most of those times. The exceptions are 9 P.M. on 4/5, and both times on 4/6. The 6th is WrestleMania, so I definitely cannot draft then.

I probably can't do any of those times except for the 3PM time and the midnight times, unless EA has gotten their shit together and I can draft on the website

That's rough. There's a Friday and a Saturday night with several different options there. What's occupying your weekends?

Also...EA has not gotten their shit together. EA's shit could not be more widespread.

I'm doing a theatrical production at my college and we open a week from Thursday, so I'm consistently there until 10 or 11 every night.

I should be fine for the times this weekend.  Not sure about during the week as things at work have been changing around.  People that were out sick are back and so they have been messing around with all the schedules.

I also love how some players are so ridiculous in their contract negotiations.  I was trying to get my backup quarterback Harnish to a new contract all season and was offering more than he was asking for in several different variations of signing bonus and contract and he would never sign.

Yeah. I got once chance to offer David Gettis and Brandon Tate new contracts. Both wanted 1 year, 740K. I offered Tate 750K, with 50 of that as a bonus and he declined. I offered Gettis a two year deal worth 1.3 M. Turned down. Why bother asking for a contract you're not going to accept? Argh. On the upside, I was able to resign Evereson Griffen, who I got up to an 85 during the season, for a reasonable deal, and resigned Henry Hynoski and then promptly turned him into an 88 overall FB with the XP he had earned.

I wish there were a way to offer more than 1 contract if the first is rejected.  I mean I guess it make sense sometimes for a player to be offended by an offer and refuse to listen to another, but its just dumb to only have 1 shot before a guy goes on the open market.

We're still missing a few votes for draft time. pitfallharry219, HooRox, Yo Soy El Tiger (assuming he's playing)...and Dark Rider (if he's playing). I guess with the responses we do have we can kind of narrow things down. But yeah...it would be nice to get a little more input.

Ditto. It's incredibly frustrating.

Ok, we have advanced to the next stage of the offseason. Quite a few big name players on the open market here. Vince Wilfork, Colin Kaepernick, and Cam Newton are all free agents. And maaaan, do they want a lot of money, lol.

We will advance again tomorrow afternoon/evening, so get your free agent offers in now.

God dammit...I'm retarded, lol. Yeah, those dates for the draft are totally wrong. I meant to have the late times on Friday and Saturday...but when I typed it up, I must have been looking at March on my calendar. Seriously... fuck me in the goat ass. Let's throw these times up and see if it makes any kind of difference for anyone...because the way things were working out before 2 people were going to be the odd men out for almost any day/time we picked.

Drafting on the 4th would create a bit of a crunch with that final scouting period, but I figure if everybody is on...at least at some point during that day, even if it's just 20 minutes before the draft, it should be doable. I just didn't want to rule Friday out since that could be a big asset for several people.

Sorry, guys. Proof positive that I've got way too much stuff going on. That's what I get for not putting the day of the week like I did last time. If I had put "Friday, 4/7 @ 10 PM ET" somebody could have been like "hey...you have the dates wrong...dumbass".

Friday is out for me, as I'm working that night.

I have to say, I don't know what has come over me this year, but I REALLY enjoy cutting overpaid players in the final year of their deals as a means for clearing up cap space. I ended up cutting both Shonn Greene and Sammie Hill who were set to make like $3 and $4 million each. After cutting them, I go look at the free agents list and see their "market value" is assessed at less than $1 million each. Damn straight! GTFO my team you gold diggers! lol

Got a free moment, so here are the dates/times that work for me. I don't get back from Denver until Saturday, so all dates before 4/6 are out for me. Below are the times that are good for me.

4/6 @ 7PM ET
4/6 @ 9PM ET
4/7 @ 6PM ET

Actually, the late nite on 4/5 @11:59 pm ET would also work, but not my first choice.

All right, that should be enough to hash out a draft time. Kaster hasn't re-voted, but I can mostly infer from his previous post that he wouldn't be available at either of the most popular times anyway. Dark Rider has viewed the PM I sent out, but not responded. Probably means he's done with Madden. Yo Soy El Tiger hasn't read the PM... I think that says it all.

We had a tie for the most popular time between: 4/7 @ 9PM ET and 4/8 @ 9PM ET. One time would leave one person out. The other time would leave a different person out. Other than leaving it to chance and flipping a coin, the only fair way I can think of to determine a "winner" is to do the same thing I would do when there are conflicting schedules for a game and rule in favor of the person who was available more.

So, in that case, that puts our draft on Monday, 4/7 @ 9PM ET.

My apologies to anyone who can't make it at that time. Even with less people, and my fuck up, this was still a pain in the ass finding a common time, lol. And as I will say every time...it is incredibly stupid that EA took out drafting from the website. I'm pretty sure only EA games make me wish I was playing the version from 2+ years ago.

You're really going to arbitrarily choose to have the draft at the same time at the National Championship game when you could choose the following day with no penalty?

You're really going to arbitrarily choose to have the draft at the same time at the National Championship game when you could choose the following day with no penalty?
There's always going to be something like that though.

"You're really going to arbitrarily choose to have the draft at the same time as Wrestlemania???" (Sunday)

"You're really going to arbitrariiy choose to have the draft at the same time as my baseball team's home opener???" (Monday for me...but a day game...others probably have night games I'm sure)

"You're really going to arbitrarily choose to have the draft at the same as when Twilight is on HBO???" (Don't know because I own it on blu-ray...duh)

That's the exact reason I just rely on numbers. Give people options, let the numbers decide. I don't think we've ever had a tie before...but it seemed to make sense to go to some kind of tie breaker that wasn't playing favorites in any way. Ruling against the person with the least flexibility seemed like the most fair option.

Sry, not totally arbitrary. My apologies, Nate. I skimmed your announcement.
It's cool. Just wanted to give my reasoning.

Also, I just wanted to post this as a reminder since it can be easy to overlook...

You are only allowed to offer free agents on the open market the number of years they are asking for. You can offer as much money as you want...but the length of the contract must be exactly what they're looking for.
