Demon Souls pissed me off so much that I threw my controller.*rage*
I'm right there with ya. I think I might be done with this game. I was playing last night and died pretty bad. To keep my rage in check I popped in Endless Ocean 2 so I could relax. I went to peacefully thinking about dolphins and whales.

Hahaha @ Demon's Souls. So hard, yet so fucking rewarding once you finally get through a section that's been killing you. Really wish my buddy whom I lent my copy to would finish so I can start my NG+ already :D

Maybe you guys can help me. I'm having problems with a certain enemy in 3-1 (I think) It's the Cthulhu looking wizard that shoots spells at you. Those asshole kill me in 2 hits and I can't block the magic with a shield. It's difficult to roll around since the halls are so tight and other enemy's pop out of nearby cells. Any tips? I've died twice at a point where I drop down and there's one cthulhu wizard behind me and two grunts in front of me. The wizard always blasts me over the edge killing me. It's fuckin' pissing me off.

I am by no means an expert on Demon Souls and I got frustrated with the game and stopped playing, but I think I know the enemies you are talking about and the way I dealt with them is to make sure I would face them one on one, then wait for them to turn there backs on a movement pattern then run up behind them 2-hand your weapon to do as much damage and try and beat them down before they can turn around and do anything.

Ah yes, those fuckers. Most annoying non-boss in the game imho. That level probably took me the longest to complete. IIRC, I waged wars of attrition. I cast spells while continually backing away from them. If you are close enough, they will try to hit you with their torch or suck your brains out instead of casting their mind blast spells, so I got close enough where they went with physical attacks that I could back away from.

Also, as a big D&D nerd, I loved the inclusion of illithids in the game :D

Edit: Now that I think about it, I think I also had a sheild that absorbed/blocked magic, so that prolly helped ;)

Wow, I really don't understand their logic. They have no problem localizing/developing many piss poor games, but when it comes to arguably their best non-fighting franchise, they won't consider it? And I agree with many on there: The series is pretty niche, enough that many fans are more than happy with even just fan translations. So why doesn't Namco just translate the text and leave the Japanese voices. In the RPG genre, isn't that practically preferred by many anyway? This is extremely disappointing news.

Ah well, Innocence on DS has a 100% translation, and Graces seems to be coming along nicely (both PS3 and Wii I believe). Hearts (DS) is what, about 1/5 done (assuming it doesn't get abandoned)? Rebirth was being worked on, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer as to if it is still ongoing. Tales of Destiny 2 (not ToD II US, which was Eternia) is still being worked on by a group last I heard too. IDK if Tempest (DS) is or not.

To summarize my ramblings:
BOO!:bomb:

Yeah, seriously, just translate the text and sell it. Guaranteed profit.

...But the American market did kind of bring it on itself too. Think of how many times you've seen "Oh, I'm waiting for the PS3 version [of Vesperia]." Just friggin' buy it!

Shitty news. We need more console JRPGs that aren't coming from SquareEnix.

Oh well, 10 years from now these will be the fan translations I'm playing, kinda like what I'm doing with the SNES & NES now.

Oh? Any new ones out? Haven't played a SNES translation since Seiken Densetsu 3 Still can't believe SE hasn't bothered to re-release it translated officially. Soooo good.

^ I started a thread about fan translations in the old school section. Check it out if you're looking for something old yet new.

I'm playing the Sweet Home fan translation. I'm about 75% done but already maxed everyone out at level 20. Probably one of the most innovative NES games and defiantly the first survival horror in the truest sense of the term.

It seems like ever since Namco and Bandai merged together the unified company has become total shit in regards to handling franchises and dealing with other IPs. They actually remind me a lot of SEGA now , totally clueless and not giving the buyers what they really want , while churning out a lot of crap that happens to make money (read: most of the new DBZ games)./end rant

Back on topic though , I'm looking to finally start up Mass Effect so that I'll be one step closer to being able to play part 3 when it comes out later this year.

while we say that, we're not really sure what kind of profits tales has been making in the states anyway... i'm actually convinced they lost a crap ton of money on vesperia.

I don't doubt that , I could certenly believe that the tales series isn't a big money maker over here , and them not bringing over more tales games is because they don't make a lot of money over here , the real question I think is how much , and how much compared to some of the other games they publish. The amount of excuses they seem to be making about not bringing the tales series over here again imply (to me at least) that its not a matter of "they don't make any money" but that its " they dont make as much money as games a , b and c" whatever those may be. Surely any money lost by the tales games could be offset by some of the other games they put out.

Again , for another sega comparison , its like how sega doesn't care enough to do sequels to games like panzer dragoon , jet set radio , space channel 5 , ect. but will gladly pump out several sonic games a year regardless of quality.

Bottom line , I'm sure there are other avenues that NB could take to release some more tales games over here that wouldn't end up being complete financial loses , such as skipping english dubbing , or even (and I know people would cringe at the thought) releasing the games digitally , but obviously they are choosing to ignore those avenues , at least at this time.

Edit: Didn't expect to type up that much , and I know a lot of that doesn't even sound good. My apologies.

with Tales not making enough over here to give it a full release - why dont' they at least give an english text only translation for the jap games so that we can at least import them on our DS/PS3's and play them.

That is extra profit that they would be getting for not a whole lot of extra money on their part.

My wallet would be so hurt if they did that, especially on the 360 stuff they haven't brought over.

The Ps3 has a couple coming out this year with not plans for a NA release. :/

Because there is very little profit from that to justify the cost of doing a full text translation. Without any marketing few people are not going to buy from import sites.

They may as well just translate the menus and add in big arrows directing you where to go next....they can leave the story in japanese and english players can just mentally insert in the story of another tales game they played, it won't be that different.

Has anybody played any of the Indie RPGs on Xbox live? I was at a friend's place this weekend, and we were looking through them and some of them looked pretty good.

Aphlieon ad Chthulu looked good, as does Breath of Death VII.

Breath of Death VII is pretty good. Plays like Dragon Quest with comedy.
I guess it is time to give up on seeing another Tales game from Namco in US

http://forums.sega.com/showthread.p...quot-No-Tales-localizations-due-to-money-quot
Wow.

"Hey are you going to localize anymore Tales games?"
Namco:"No, it costs too much money."
"Well what if you [insert incredibly easy solution here]?"
Namco: "...no."

And maybe Namco should stop releasing crap games no one wants if they're that concerned with money. How well did Clash of the Titans sell?
I want Tales here just as much as anyone but these sales comparisons are silly. Vesperia came out 3 years before Enslaved.
Right, but most of the copies for any game were sold within the first month. Plus the Xbox 360 user base was a lot smaller back then.

My point was the games came out 3 years apart so I thought the article was a little contrived. When Enslaved and Splatterhouse hit the 3 year mark we can make a better comparison.

With that said how well did Vesperia sell with the first few months?

I bought Enslaved at $60. Pretty enjoyable, but a Tales game > anything else Namco would want to put out. About to go through the new Naruto soon though.

Added Record of Argarest War to my RPG backlog.

Maybe I can get to halfway through it by the time Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim come out.

dGame Co's are really starting to piss me off with their release schedules.

It used to be summer was drought season for games. For RPGs, from Sept.-Jan. there has been NOTHING worthwhile. Now, from Feb.onward, there are a SHIT TON of games coming out.

In Feb. and Mar. alone, we have:
Radiant Historia
Dragon Quest VI
Tactics Ogre
Ys 1&2
Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky
Lord of Arcana

I mean, couldn't they have spaced some of these out?

For January we just got Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded, Phantasy Star Portable 2 in September, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn and Rune Factory 3 came out in November

don't forget Pokemon Black and white in March

Of course everyone is going to want to get their games out before 3rd Birthday, Disagea 4, Catherine, etc
There is a release date for Ar Tonelico 3?! Off to Amazon!
I couldn't find either on there a day or two ago.

A CE is a must, if anything like like Alchemist of Arland, the price will shoot up insanly quick.

...and it's really good, though a little different, game design-wise, from the rest of the series.

Despite the ugly starters, those look pretty neat, but I'll wait for the inevitable Pokemon Grey (Gray?).

The Rorona CE is still available on GameStop.com for $50 though.

Wow, they totally had me fooled thinking that was the standard, so I never clicked on it...

The amazon prices were jumping high to, thanks for letting me know, I just ordered it. :)
I think I'm going to end up pre-ordering the premium package of Neptunia because it looks just like the Rorona gamestop version. Hopefully it's available outside of NISA's store.

But not on the artbook cover!
When does that come out anyway?
Late February something-or-other. I wish they'd just open pre-orders for it already.

I just ordered PSP2, SO2, and Peace Walker for PSP.

I don't think I've ever bought 3 games at once.

Oh, I hope they're all good... and better than the AKB game...
Hmm..hopefully Gamestop updates Neptunia and offers the art book as well. I hate playing shipipng from NISA store.
Yeah, personally hoping for amazon, but even Gamestop would do. :p

I hope AT III gets an art book to.

Is anywhere else going to have the plush slime bonus? It looks like this Smile Slime plush from the pic on the Gamestop site. If it is, it's going to be hard for me to pass up (I love DQ slimes, and the quality of Smile Slime merchandise is great)... but I'd rather not have to go through Gamestop :whistle2:|

Yeah, I hate those store specific deals.

It's only a plush though, so I'm not to worried about it.

An art book on the other hand.
