Chris Benoit kills wife, 7 year old son and then self.

I'm not going to read through all 52 pages of this topic. But I must say that it is really shocking to hear something like this, regardless of if it was a "roid rage" or not. But I think what he did is just cowardly and stupid, and I really feel bad for his wife and kid, more so than him.

This keeps getting more and more bizarre. I bet the disease played a role in this murder suicide somehow.

I bet Benoit was one of those closet abuser types, the one that keeps out people in his family life, plays a good face, but might be hurting his family. You never know. A lot of the wrestlers said he was really private and stuff, I mean thats how controllers and abusers are sometimes.

I mean you really can't bash WWE on this one, I think they did the right thing. If they didn't air the tribute show and just did one of those flash on the screen-R.I.P-commerical break thing, all you guys would have been pissed. WWE is probably taking a huge loss on this whole thing money wise. They just blew one of their huge storylines. Plus WWE is going to get heat for the whole steroid thing all over again. They just can't win.

Benoit flushed all that hard work down the toilet with this. He tarnished his whole career. I mean he is without a doubt one of the best wrestlers of all time, but this murder/suicide tarnishes everything. Didn't Vince say on WWE Benoit won't be mentioned anymore? He's now the black sheep of the wrestling family.

What's weird is the bible placing, time between murders, and "family emergency" thing with WWE. Hopefully we get some answers. Benoit had to have talked to someone, gone on the computer, or something.

You can't fault him fully when parts of the media (ie: MSNBC, CNN) are doing a good job of making people think that roids is a HUGE cause of the issue.

That was cool.

Thanks for the worthless input.

Yeah that is very true Dman. I didn't mean to come off too harsh or anything just the blaming of roids and saying that is what caused Benoit to do this is getting very tiresome to me. They need to get off of placing the blame on roids and get to the real reason. Which as of right now we don't really know that.

At this point there isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said. I'm still stunned like many of you are and it's so hard now to deal with my adulation for Benoit the wrestler (he was my favorite) and my disgust for the acts committed this past weekend by Benoit the man.

I am tempted to give in to my base impulse and despise him completely, but I don't think that is ultimately worthwhile. Instead I will simply mourn the loss of Nancy and Daniel Benoit and keep their extended family in my thoughts.

I also wanted to provide a link that I hope some of you may find useful. Just a little background = it's about the "family annihilator" profile type that I *believe* FBI profiler Robert Ressler came up with. I think it gives a little further insight into the mindset of an individual that kills his family.

The sad thing is (like I've said 1,000 times) we all know how the media likes to sensationalize things. So by the time we finally get to what the real reason is most people will sadly have forgotten about this since the media will most likely have moved onto whatever the latest hot topic is (ie: the latest "news" on Paris Hilton).
why doesnt anyone like me?
I don't know. You haven't bothered me...yet. :)

I love this in one of the articles.

"I have been a fan of Chris for a number of years. I have not lost any respect for him as a result of this incident, nor should it affect anyone else's opinion. Remember the man for who he was," wrote "Richard W."

No problem he was a murderer. He killed a child, and women before he killed himself. He wrestled he also killed.

Could it be that he was psycho all along, and wrestling let him live his psychotic fantasies.
Good point. Celebrity seems to buy you a pass even after murder/suicide.
And being a cop or celebrity gives you a pass to anything.

woo even better a celebrity cop. unh? yea :D

Name one celebrity that killed his or her family and then themselves that got a pass. Benoit certainly isn't getting a pass, nor does he deserve one.

Yeah I agree with you on this Dman. If we do happen to finally learn what the motive behind this was, the media will have forgotten all about Benoit and will be more interested in what Britneys new hair color is....

Robert Blake "allegedly"

You guys seem to be missing out on the /suicide part of murder/suicide. OJ and Robert Blake didn't kill themselves. In fact, OJ just killed his wife and her friend, not the kids he had with Nicole. Blake, too, just killed his wife. No child murder was involved. And as for getting off scot free, I seem to recall a huge civil suit against OJ brought by Ron Goldman that pretty much financially ruined OJ. I wouldn't say then that he totally got away unscathed.

We're talking about three different murders but most of the basic premise is the same; Celebrity kills family members.

As you said OJ, Blake didn't kill kids, or commit suicide. Which is true, but OJ did lose the civil case he had to pay 25 million IIRC.

So we should feel sorry for Benoit? Forget the fact he just murdered a woman and child? That is what I was referring to as getting a "pass". My sympathy is with the wife and child.

fuck no he shouldn't get a pass. I was pissed he took his own life thats an easy way out. I think we should just drop murderers, and rapists out in the desert, and let nature take care of them alive or dead.

Who suggested we should feel sorry for Benoit? As much as I loved him as a wrestler, performer, and entertainer, I don't feel sorry for him, and I doubt anyone else does either. It sounds like he made some very poor choices (steroids) and maybe failed to address other problems that led him to commit the atrocious acts he did. I think it's a pity and a shame he went from wrestling legend to infamous family killer in the span of a weekend, but that's about the extent of it.

Perhaps you shouldn't be so vague in future.

Wow. TMZ/WWE.com has the bizarre text messages Benoit sent out to co-workers from both his and Nancy's cell phone.
It keeps getting more bizarre with every detail ...

Chris Benoit sent a series of text messages to WWE co-workers, some from his dead wife's cell phone. According to WWE.com, all five text messages were sent between 3:53 AM and 3:58 AM on June 24. He then committed suicide.

The messages revealed that Benoit distributed information on where to find his remains, and the enclosed location of his attack dogs.

Below are the times and content of text messages Benoit sent to co-workers, as first reported by WWE:

 • 3:53 AM - Chris Benoit's cell phone: "My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane, Fayeteville Georgia. 30215"
 • 3:53 AM - Chris Benoit's cell phone: "The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open."
 • 3:54 AM - Nancy Benoit's cell phone: "My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane. Fayeteville Georgia. 30215"
 • 3:55 AM - Nancy Benoit's cell phone: "My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane, Fayeteville Georgia. 30215"
 • 5:58 AM - Nancy Benoit's cell phone: "My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane, Fayeteville Georgia. 30215"

He made the choice to do so. It didn't just happen accidently.

Try actually reading the post I had responded to. The one right before mine. The post I responded to suggested feeling sorry for him and dismissing the fact that he murdered his wife and kid. It mentioned nothing of legal actions.

Just finished reading the detailed timeline (text messages, and communication trail from Benoit to WWE employees) on WWE.com--very eerie.

It really is. Its like getting into the mind of a psychopath. We're along for the ride, and it doesn't have a happy ending.

I think that's pretty much all we want to know! Not saying it would justify anything..but at least we can maybe possibly understand WTF was going on in his head..

I don't know if any of you actually read it, but the link I posted on the previous page seemed very insightful. It's entitled "The Family Annihilator: Fathers Who Kill" and is about the specifics of the "family annihilator" profile type that the FBI came up with (I think it was FBI agent Robert Ressler, pioneer of criminal profiling, but I'm not positive).

What Benoit did is sadly not a new or even recent phenomenon. Anyway, here's the link again for any interested: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/266087/the_family_annihilator_fathers_who.html
Interesting read... it's scary how closely that lines up with the whole Benoit situation!
Indeed BustaUppa. I guess it goes to show that there are definite commonalities among men that murder their wife and kid(s). It also got me thinking about the WWE's health and wellness program and whether periodic psychological evaluations are part of said program.

Given the rigors of a 50+ week a year schedule and the physical toll on their bodies, I would have to think that many wrestlers suffer psychologically as well. I would personal like to see the WWE include psych tests in their health and wellness program if they don't already.

the Bibles... were there any specific details about the Bibles? Were they closed or open? If they were open, then what passage where they opened up to? It'd be crazy if he did something like that to leave a clue or message.

I know this sounds crazy, but the fact that the bodies had Bibles placed next to them is pretty crazy already... so I don't even feel like I'm reaching here.

btw I was VERY creeped out when I thought about those text messages. I mean imagine you're one of his friends and you randomly get a text with his home address. You might think "that's odd." Then you realize that other co-workers are getting the same thing, and you start getting a really bad vibe. Why is he telling me his physical address? Why is he still not here for the show? What happened to the family emergency? Man, it must have been nuts. No overt revelation in those messages... no "clues"... just really vague and creepy.

I know you guys are gonna think I'm wacko, but I think we got another manchurian candidate on our hands. first there was the wacko astronaut w/ the diapers incident, then the VT senior who killed 32 students in one day (with hand guns!), now we got a professional wrestler who killed his family.

i wonder what his cue to snap was? maybe the repeating of the address?
if he was on anti-depressants, was he recently taken off of them?

i highly doubt it's roid rage/ steriod abuse. if so, then there would be hundreds of police officers doing this to their families every day.

Morbid warning....

I was talking at work with another friend of mine who was following the story and I mentioned to him about how Chris had killed himself...with his weight equipment.

My friend pointed out how much pain that must have been considering the neck size of Benoit and how strong it probably was. First time I had thought of that.
