Breaking News: More Raids, an Arrest, and Fans Offering Tips to Investigators
A second raid was executed around 5:25 PM this afternoon at the Carrollton, GA, office of Dr. Phil Astin, family physician of the Benoit family. A battering ram was utilized to enter the facility.
DEA agent Chuvalo Truesdell offered very few details, but said that new leads, including some from their Wednesday night raid, led them to seek more information than the records and other items seized that night could offer.
He also confirmed that the DEA has taken over the lead role in the investigation into Astin, though Fayette County authorities still manage the actual crime scene in Fayetteville, GA.
There was also a raid this afternoon at the home of Astin’s mother, where he resides. No information has been disclosed as to what they were seeking at the home, but eight unmarked DEA SUVs and several Carroll County Sheriff’s department vehicles were on the scene.
Witnesses at the time the search warrant was being executed there believed that a forced entry was made by authorities, as they had attempted to access the home through the front door, before going around the rear of the home after there was no answer.
It is unclear at this time whether any of the investigating agencies have knowledge of the whereabouts of either of the Astins, though neither have been seen over two days.
Truesdell would not comment on whether actual charges have been filed to warrant the arrest of Dr. Astin.
There is also a report of a female fan, Teresa Kimbrell, 45, who drove from North Carolina to the home of Benoit. She was arrested last night by Fayette County officers and charged with simple battery and disorderly conduct.
Witnesses report she seemed to be under the influence of alcohol. Sources report she became belligerent when officers at the scene refused to provide her with any information when she attempted to ask them questions regarding the investigation.
Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard has reported that his office is receiving all sorts of communications, including conspiracy theories, as well as psychics offering their assistance into understanding what went on at the home during the crimes.
Reporters say they are also receiving emails from fans. One suggested that Johnny Nitro be investigated, as the sender believes Nitro may be responsible so that he could replace Benoit in his match on June 24. Another claimed they believe a dead wrestler, whose name was not provided, came back to life in order to murder the Benoit family.
