Superman can't spend a whole game fighting magicians, demons and people from a heavy metal album cover. This isn't a Spawn video game.
That doesn't have to be the case. Someone could cast a spell that weakens him.
Hopefully before the movie is out, but Mark Millar is one slow ass jive turkey. Plus now he wants to direct movies too...
He may be slow, overworked or whatever, but the guy sure knows how to write an enjoyabe story when he wants to.

From a personal stand point Superman has always been more sci-fi themed if anything as opposed to going to that realm. Yes, I know he has Mr.Mxyzptlk or however you spell him, but more all his villains and stories all have the sci-fi theme going with it.

I Think red sun or red kryptonite and if that can be worked in a story it'll give logical excuse for him getting his ass beat by common goons.

Slow I think is the answer.

Robert Kirkman is writing Invincible, Astounding Wolfman, Haunt, Walking Dead, Pilot Season (4 different title comics), Image United AND helping run Image. Yet, all his come on a good monthly basis without a dip in quality.

That's because Robert Kirkman has a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility, both of which are severely lacking with many of the so-called superstars now.

OK guys, obligatory "I've been playing Batman:AA and now I'm looking for related paraphernalia to read."

I've finished reading:
The Long Halloween
Batman Arkham Asylum: Living Hell (totally awesome).
Also I've just gotten the first 3 seasons of Batman:TAS.

I really prefer the more psychological and detective aspects of Batman. Can anyone recommend any good collections? I am unsure if Batman's "Detective Comics" ever get collected. I really don't care much for superhero crossovers (unless it's a clever cameo, i.e. Green Lanter's appearance in "Made of Wood" DC#784) superteams, or sidekicks.

Do the stories have to be about Batman or can they just be part of the Batman family? If so then I highly suggest the current run on Detective Comics with Batwoman. It's fantastic.

Also there's The Killing Joke which is one of the more famous Batman GNs.
I've been wanting to read Gotham by Gas Light, but every copy i find online is expensive.
It's fairly good. If I remember correctly the first half is good about Jack the Rippah. Second half less so.

And if you're interested in getting "The Killing Joke" (which I think is quite good), pick up DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore. Very good deal, in my opinion, considering it also includes "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" and "For the Man Who Has Everything."

Gotham Central Vols. 1-5. Police-based stories with only cursory appearances by Batman but still an excellent run of issues that was really underrated.

Anyone know when the Old Man Logan non-hardcover comes out? I've been waiting for months and there is no release date. I thought it would be out by christmas time but nada.

Judging from some recent x-men related TPBs, could be about 3-4 months after the release of the HC (looking at woverine: adamantium men, x-factor,...). However that is to go from Premiere HC to TPB. Old Man Logan is oversized HC, so maybe the timetable for that would go like the Cable/X-Force: Messiah War HC, which came out Aug 26 and will be out Jan 20 in TPB.

So my guess is March/April. But they only dropped the price on the Messiah War TPB by $5, so it might be worth it to buy the HC now, it is a nicer package with the oversized art (and obviously hardcover).

I Kinda want to pick up Superman: World of New Krypton again to know what's going on with the "next crossover," but man that is one boring ass title.

Plus more I hear about "The Return of Bruce Wayne" the more I think it sounds like a bad Quantum Leap episode. I'll still pick it up, but me assuming what I know about Morrison...It won't make a lick of damn sense. Calling it now.

Thanks for the responses but I caved and ordered the HC on amazon. I've been waiting forever to read the whole thing and have been dodging spoilers since it came out.

Any of you guys recommend The Boys? I've been wanting to read this too.
how does that even work though if bruce is alive and coming back how was nekron able to reanimate his corpse?
I Think they'll go into detail about that in Batman and Robin's Blackest Night tie in issue according to all the previews. Though like I said, I know it's going to make a lick of sense because it's Bruce Wayne versus time itself is what Morrison is labeling it as. So this includes viking Bruce and pirate Bruce shown so far.
how does that even work though if bruce is alive and coming back how was nekron able to reanimate his corpse?
My theory is that Bruce is technically dead since he's in the past. If that makes any sense. Hence why his corpse was still able to make a small appearance in Blackest Night.
Walking Dead is very overrated.
I got a few issues of Walking Dead and realized I have to start from the begining so I ended up droping it. I dropped 10 comics from my pull list. Need to start saving money.

Characters do stupid, non-sense things that I can't relate to.

Like in the latest chapter, a character who follows along silently for the majority of the story suddenly declares in a completely out of character way that they're ready to leave the group when a plot point that comes up. The author constantly needs a MacGuffin of some kind for the characters to get themselves into some kind of situation that realistically should be easily avoided. It's like he needs people to die (because it's a zombie story) but he has run out of logical ideas, so instead he goes ahead and starts making "jumping the shark" type storylines which contribute nothing to the title. I mean after 60 issues of this zombie shit, you'd think these survivors would be more aware of their surroundings and the dawdling zombies making their way towards them.

The story is pretty much the anthesis of Y: The Last Man, which was a brilliant take on this kind of Journeyman series.

I read the first volume of Y last week and I enjoyed it. I'll be reading Vol. 2.

I just finished the fifth (and final) volume of Gotham Central. That is some fine readin'. If you've ever enjoyed The Wire you will absolutely love Gotham Central. Give it a try.
Characters do stupid, non-sense things that I can't relate to...
Sure, but it's not a bad book. It's a great one really. I followed it for about 50 issues or so when they were living in the prison and I have to say it was a really strong run. I guess you could say the series is getting a little tired...or maybe just I am. I'd say that the quality of recent books hasn't diminished it's just the whole series is lacking that underlying 'BIG QUESTION' or 'HIDDEN DEPTH' that something like Fables had for a long time with the Adversary and all of the character's storied histories.

Honestly, I think many people are plain stupid and have really poor sensory awareness and I don't mind so much when they get eaten. But there are a lot of "going to take a leak" moments that lead to zombie ambush. Probably the biggest moment that was a Whazzzahhh??? moment was when:
one chick whose sister had died commits suicide by randomly wandering into the path of a chained up zombie.

Anyhows, Y is great. Dead is great. Fables. Ex Machina...

My brother visited me a few weeks ago and read my entire Y's collection in 2 days. He was like a drug addict, he could not put it down.

Y was a great read until the ending. what makes walking dead so great are the people in it and they way they all slowly change to adapt to the new world they live in and even more they notice the changes and wonder if its or wrong. if youre not a fan of he zombie genre i could see why someone wouldnt like it but io its the best zombie book out there. i especialy like how ricks kid has changed through the book its one of those things that make you think.

Anyone else grab that enormous Olivier Coipel Thor poster? Mine just showed up and it's awesome. I like the tough vinyl material they used as well. Of course now I have to build a darned 10 foot long frame to fit it in....

Seige #1 was good. It's a rewarding read if you've kept up with Marvel. My only complaint is it's a little short.

I know I've said it before but I'm also enjoying Fantastic Four. Issue #574 was a fun read. I've been waiting for them do a more constructive storyline with the Richard kids. If you're a little intrested in the series this would be a good starting point.

I'm going to assume most of them who died are going to be gone for awhile. The ones who recently turned in BN#5 will go back to normal. One of them already did.

Also JSA All Stars is terrific so far. This is the exact kind of JSA book I've been waiting for. I've always been a huge JSA fan and it's nice to see them kicking ass. The other JSA book is ok, but I'm a bit disappointed in it.

Kal El is on New Krypton and somehow is on Earth as well and
now a Black Lantern
. No way is he going to be staying as a corpse after Blackest Night. Especially since they're doing another Superman crossover after this with New Krypton vs. Earth (and him possibly being new leader of Outsiders).

Don't forget he's also teaming up with Batman in World's Finest #4 lol.

Not sure if I want Supes on the Outsiders... The Outsiders has been a team I've always liked (don't find many Outsiders fans unfortunately...), and I'm not a big fan of Supes.

Also if Peej isn't involved in the upcoming War of the Supermen I'm going to flip.

Comic book continuity at it's finest. Then again every other issue has spoiled Steve Roger's return except for Captain America Reborn. Same with Barry Allen and Flash Rebirth. Do the big two even try to release comics on time anymore?

At least Geoff Johns has the excuse of writing the whole goddamn DC Universe right now.

It's stuff like that that pretty turns me off from following comics. I basically only pick up graphic novels of Elseworlds stuff and other such titles. I enjoy a good, self-contained story that cannot be ruined by whatever revisions, reboots, etc they feel like doing.

Other than spoilers, this doesn't really bother me. I just assume that not every comic is happening at the exact same time.

Marvel spoiled this about 4 or 5 months ago when they said he was returning.
Marvel spoiled this about 4 or 5 months ago when they said he was returning.
Yeah, but they didn't give the details except Steve Rogers is returning. Plus with Reborn you didn't know to what capacity his return would mean. Though as of right now we basically know everything we need to without even reading the last issue of Reborn (besides what visions of the future he saw).

It wasn't as big a shocker as it was with Joey Q. going on every friggin media outlet and screaming from the rooftops "CAPTAIN AMERICA DIES IN ISSUE 25!!!!!" Before it's even released.

Why did they release the Captian America: Who Will Weild the Sheild one-shot before the final issue of Reborn? I was thinking I missed an issue.

I was looking at the issue numbers and it was orginally 5 issues long, but on issue #5 it says 5 of 6. Were they not able to complete the story in five issues, so the decided to throw one more in?

The story was set to be done in 5 issues; however, Marvel saw the early sales numbers and extended the series by 1 issue to milk it some more. They've done this on several other high profile series. Then the books run late (by Millar and Hitch? Inconceivable!) and then the story gets spoiled since details are discussed in other books that actually get turned in on time (Iron Man). Lazy creators with no work ethic are the single biggest problem in comics.
What was the last comic illustrated by Hitch that came out on time?
His short run on Fantastic Four with Mark Millar.
