Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)

Ummmz...this maybe in odd question, but anyone know where I can buy comic books in German? Tried amazon.de...and its expensive. Specifically, I am trying to get The Walking Dead if possible.
Has anyone read Earth-One Superman yet? I received and read it today and have to say it was really awesome. I can't imagine why anyone would give it a negative or mediocre review. Interested to hear others' opinions.
Personally I didn't consider picking it up because I'm not a big Superman fan really. I've only really been interested in Superman stories by writers I already have great liking for and already have decent acclaim (Morrison, Alan Moore). I don't like J. Michael Straczynski enough for me to buy a Superman book.

I think the hype for it for DC has put some people off, which gives reviewers a bad predisposition going into reading it.

On the Thor omnibus you'll have a choice between the Coipel cover and the Turner cover. I say go with the Coipel cover.

Yeah, Coipel is a beast when it comes to covers (and Thor art in general).

Also, Djurdjevic has done a huge Wolverine poster, similar to other posters he has done in the past, and I find it very odd that Professor X isn't on it. Unless I am just missing it.

Dang that is a tough choice.

I would have to go with Turner though. Since i love his art, and he's dead now. :(

What's up with Bruce Wayne announcing he is funding Batman? I just saw a snippet of the comic of him announcing it. And i haven't even got the last issue to Bruce Wayne returns yet.

i kind of wonder if he wont be inviting trouble by doing that but i people see batman/men/women patrolling his home and businesses they wont e surrised by it and maybe people wont think its him.

azrael is some crazy shit too definelty wondering how long till the vatican complains.

So both Bruce and Dick are going to be Batman? This will be cool for a little bit but I really liked Dick as Nightwing. I don't like the idea of other Batmen worldwide, seems like a bad way to get elseworld stories to be canon. IE a African Batman or a Asian Batman. I think it'll be better played out as Dick in Gotham and Bruce around the globe.

Think of it as a pre-Kingdom Come Batman with all the Bat-mechs or even a pre-Dark Knight Returns Batman with all the Sons of Batman running around.

Robots are the best option though, just based off him being a huge control freak, but he's been portrayed as raising armies before.

It was weird to see Bruce return before the final of The Return of Bruce Wayne, but we all knew he was coming back and he is still the same badass we know and love. There are a billion green lanterns, flashes, supermen so I guess it's about time Batman got the love.

The Batman Inc. idea sounds like fun, but revealing you are financing an illegal vigilante would generally have legal ramifications. I also wonder what Wayne stock did after the announcement, it seems like it would be seen as a major drain on potential profit. so lots of logic nit picks

From a story perspective though, it sets up lots of interesting things to do in the short-term with Bruce going to other countries and establishing people, then later on to stories focused on these new Batman's. It also sets up a pretty easy endgame for Morrison or whomever follows him to get back to the status quo. You just have a big event storyline where one or more of them go rogue and have Bruce realize that there really can only be one Batman and ending the program.

Finally had an opportunity to catch up on my comic reading. There were some good and some bad.

Good:
Avengers #6
Thunderbolts #149
Fables #99
Kick-Ass 2 #1

Bad:
Chaos Wars - I love the duo of Herc & Amadeus but I prefer them in more lighthearted storylines, just the two of them fuckin' around, Herc getting in trouble, drinking and womanizing. This isn't doing it for me. It's not terrible but how is this going to be different than any other "universe saving" story Marvel has done, why should I care? Just give me fun loving Herc.

Wolverine - Wolvie in hell and they're torturing him. This is starting off weird and grim and not making a lot of sense. Who's this Devil guy torturing him? I thought Mephisto was Marvel's version of the devil. How many lords of the underworld does Marvel have? And who his girlfriend? Never seen her before, just some random girl. And all this talk about "breaking him" I thought they were going to do something really fucked up, but all they did was have an old lover whip him. Big whoop.

I'm trying to remember the name of a villain. I think he was in Identity Crisis he was the bad guy equivalent of Oracle. One of those minor league villains that gave up trying to take over and instead became an information broker. Anyone remember who this is?

is he the guy who tried to recently kill himself in that birds of prey series or the one who had a son who was killed and a daughter who works with oracle and batgirl?

yeah.. i couldn't tell you. I'm not that current. I just remember two things. I remember him being described as the Oracle for bad guys and I remember thinking he used to be a throwaway guy like Dr. Light.

I don't see how people can like Kick-Ass 2 #1. I absolutely hated it. It was boring, bland and the vulgarity of it was just bad. Completely opposite of the first series. I will give it one more issue, though. I haven't liked what Millar has done lately. His current Ultimate Avengers with Blade and vampires is stale and terribly drawn. Superior is subpar as well. I just missed the old Ultimates, Civil War and Old Man Logan style Millar.

I might actually get Earth One from Amazon this week. I'm kinda excited to read it due to the hate its been getting. Doesn't look that bad to me.

That book has been getting a lot more positive feedback than negative. Some angry internet comic nerds don't speak for the massive sales numbers that the book did (as is doing for the second printing). I think you'll enjoy it.

Yeah, I'm surprised how well it's selling. Do the more popular books usually sell so well?

I orderd it last week off Amazon. They said estimated delivery is the 10th. I'm pretty excited.

I liked Kick-Ass 2 because it wasn't playing off the success of the movie. It was a sequel to the comic book and nothing else. The story is progressing as you would expect. Dave is a famous superhero and is looking to team up. I enjoyed it and look forward to issue #2 (whenever that will be)

I will say Millar adds a bit too much of needless vulgarity. It comes off amateurish and I know he's a better writer than that.

Ultimate Avengers is bad, I dropped it.

see if its Savant aka Brian Durlin. if not him maybe its the guy who works for power girl now.

Has there been any news as to other Earth One hardcovers in the works? I'm guess Batman, Flash, GL and other big name DC heroes will get one, but I would really like to see some others such as Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Deathstroke, Zatanna and others along those lines. Maybe a Fire and Ice Earth One.

I would think you are most likely talking about Calculator, he has been the most prominent character with that type of role recently.

I believe Batman is the only one that is definitely in the pipeline. I'm sure we will see more based on sales. And then if that goes well we can start seeing cross-overs and continuing series and it will become as convoluted as the regular universes. Ultimate Marvel is a perfect example of that.

Yeah, I agree. The ultimate universe is still good, but was much better when it was just Ulimate Spidey, X-Men, Ultimates and FF. I would like DC to keep the Earth One stuff to hardcovers and paperbacks.

I found some of the reviews true where they said it was angsty and predictable, but you can't really get too surprising in a Supes origin story. I liked it, thought it was a good read but one could see where the complaints stem from. I'd be interested to see where they continue on from here, I'd buy the next one.

And for the villain being spoke of above, I concur that I believe they were asking about the Calculator.

spiderman is going to be awesome. itll be good to see him doing what he was meant to do and to see how hell use his new resources to help in his crime fighting.

Best week in comics for the year. Here are the highlights

- Another perfect issue of Avengers: Children's Crusade
- Big Time starts off awesomely
- American Vampire continues to be the best Vertigo/DC book on the shelves
- A somewhat huge death in New Avengers #6
- Ultimate Thor is a all sorts of crazy but it works perfectly.

I saw the first few issues of Avengers: Children's Crusade at my local store. I've never been a Young Avengers fan but I'm now thinking I should have picked those up.

Can't wait for Big Time. I've really been enjoying Spidey for the past few months.

The IGN reviews knocked Big Time pretty harshly and I disagreed with most of what they had to say. I personally loved it and even though I dislike Ramos' art, I found it awesome in the first issue.

I agree on Ramos art, never a fan. First issue felt like set up mostly to me but having Peter work at a Google/Apple analogue could turn out to be interesting

that new avengers death was surprising and i liked the speech that guy gave at the end. i dont believe the death is the end though.

Lot to cover so bare with me. Finished up The Thanos Imperative and I'm mixed.

Bad - MAJOR SPOILERS
They killed off Thanos just as fast they brought him back. Well kinda killed him off, stuck in another dimension presumably dead along with Nova and Starlord (2 of my other favorite cosmic characters) I'm sure all three will magically reappear with Blackbolt & Vulcan in tow

Good - Seems like there will be a cool down with the cosmic stuff and it is well needed. As much as I love them it's been on big event after another and finishing it off with Thanos just seems right. Maybe now we can finally sit back and see how the Inhumans, Guardians, Shi'Ar, Nova Corps, etc. make their way into the Heroic Age. I'm defiantly following Abentt & Lanning over to Heroes for Hire.

As for the New Avengers death I wasn't surprised, I saw this coming
ever since Voodoo was declared the new Sorcerer Supreme. I always knew the Eye of Agamotto would make it's way back to Strange, now it's just a matter of time.

As for non Marvel stuff I read a bunch of Walking Dead and pretty much caught up besides the latest arc. I'm happy to be apart of the zombie club. Has Kirkman hinted when it might end?

damn my curiosity i hadnt gotten around to reading those yet oh well lol.
Sorry about that. Should've mentioned it was a major spoiler. Fixed
lol no worries i should have resisted better and read those comics sooner but that damn batman arkham asylum has got me hooked. best comic based videogame ever the demo didnt do it justice.
best comic based videogame ever.
Can't argue with that. I've never been a Batman fan ouside of watching the movies and cartoon series but that game was a major reason why Batman & Robin is on my pul list.

Arkham Asylum is easily the best game, but I had more fun with Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I've beaten the game with every character >.

I did and thought it was OK. Kind of an odd start and I really don't think Catwoman should be in the book, but it was entertaining and classic Morrison.

Also comics of the week easily go to Spider-Girl #1, Batman: The Return, Thunderbolts #150 and Osborn #1.
